It was my first time at a Cookout restaurant. I was on a road trip, and this restaurant was located right off the highway. There were so many combos to choose from. Everything on the menu is extremely affordable. Remember when there was actually a dollar menu at McDonald's, and you were able to stretch your dollar far? Well, this is the spot to go to to get back those prices. The woman who took our orders at the front counter was sweet and helpful. I ordered the $6.99 combo and got a small burger with cheese, 4 chicken nuggets, fries, and a fountain drink. You can't beat that! I thought everything tasted great. Fresh and not too greasy. I did like the honey mustard sauce for dipping. I left filling very full. There was a huge part of the menu dedicated to milkshakes in 40 different flavors. read more

Made the mistake of coming here while passing through Florence on I-95. Not good. Many, many other choices in the area. I chose poorly. Double burger was tiny and I don't think it was kept at the proper temperature. Couldn't eat it. Thank goodness as I feel kind of queasy from what I did eat. I come here on occasion when I want a burger for lunch and don't have time for a regular restaurant. The service is always fast and friendly. My go to meal is always a tray with a Big Double and my two side are quesadillas. Yes, quesadillas are considered sides here. Granted, they are very thick but they are pretty decent. The tray comes with a drink and their sweet tea is quite good. They also have some incredible thick shakes at Cookout; so thick that you'll have to use a spoon. While most Cookout locations are drive thru only, this one also has a restaurant inside as well. It's themed around Darlington Raceway which is a short distance away. Plenty of old NASCAR pictures at Darlington hanging on the wall. read more

Family Road Trip from Florida to VA - we made a stop to Florence, SC. The Cookout was near our Hotel and from what we seen, a southern fast food joint. I was exhausted so as I walked in I advised the cashier - first timer here and a bit frazzle from a long drive. Normally when we order, we order the burgers or main item and a few sides. If the employee had advised me that they ONLY do trays I would have changed my order but instead he rolled his eyes at my order, which was a Double Cheeseburger, Steak Style Burger and a Cheddar Style burger. I didn't want trays - I was just going to get an order of fries and onion rings. The employee kept asking for sides and I kept explaining I didn't want multiple sides as didn't want leftovers as we're traveling. Then he called the manager over, who was a young girl and would not greet me or look at me. She asked him the issue and he told her I only wanted the ONE tray and the two burgers. She quickly removed the extra tray and walked away. But when she removed the extra tray she removed one of the burgers. So I told him. He rolled his eyes again. So I relented and asked for the tray (which he already had the three drinks). He got annoyed and the back employees were trying to explain to him and eager to help me. Finally I left with my 3 drinks, two trays with burger, one burger. I was even more exhausted after an order that should have been a quick and go. The burgers were good - got one of them wrong but they were tasty and great size. I gave it a two star rating more so for the employee interaction. Over 40 plus shakes, walking tacos, burgers, hotdogs, chicken, BBQ, just about something for everyone. Combos are called trays and you can choose from several options instead of fries. Was asked if I wanted to go through drive thru or go in, I said, better go in, I needed to study the menu and didn't want food making a mess in car. And boy, the double burger was good but messy for sure! One of side items was the fries, those were average, but one can always do an add on to dress them up. My other side item was the Walking Tacos, I figured I'd try something new, and yes they were good, but so messy as well! And the prices are reasonable. So messy food=good in the land of CookOut. Bathrooms clean, the employees were doing what they were supposed to, good service, but between ringing up, filling initial drink orders and then refills, I really think the company should go back to turning the fountain drink machine back on and letting the customers refill their own drinks especially during lunch rush when the all guys come in at once from the nearby businesses. Cook Out is one of the restaurants I miss after moving away from the south. It's a great place to get a large volume of wonderful tasting food for a small price. I highly recommend their burgers! I read where someone complained about the outside line in October and it is not fixed yet! I sat and waited while 3 cars went in the first lane and still nothing in the 2nd lane. I finally drove around and ordered inside and told the cashier what happened. Got the same story I've gotten before about problems with the speakers and this is a new place. This manager needs to take lessons from McDonalds or Chic-fil-A and get it right. Staff inside don't act like they know what they're doing. Several standing around talking. My first time at a Cook Out restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good and the combo meals called trays are a very good value. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant was clean, and I liked the idea of a hand wash station right in the seating area. My only issue was wasteful packaging. Every meal was served in a white container with other containers inside. It seems to me that if you order a tray, it should be served on a tray without all the extra containers. read more
