Hollydale Park

If your a pet owner as I , you will soon become aware of more dog parks and ultimately have a preference for your pooch and yourself. I found this park to walk around for the entire family.

For the littler ones 11/30/16

Hollydale Park in South Gate received some new playground equipment fairly recently (at least as of 11/30/16). Before that, my girls and I visited here in March and it had all been vandalized and burned down. So the City, their insurance reimbursement, and L.A. County's Prop A combined for a hefty amount ($480,168) for the new Landscape Structures, Inc.*, but they are great. The kids love it. PROS - plants and landscaping - quite a few benches and many trees - bike trail nearby - tennis & basketball courts nearby - plenty of trash cans CONS - I-710 nearby - pot smokers at the benches don't bother me, though, I do not allow my children around them... it's the people parked in their vehicles that seem up to no good - homeless folks stroll through here fairly frequently (although I have yet to be bothered by them) * http://www.cityofsouthgate.org/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/07262016-899?html=true '16 Challenge #89

Adore this park, has great open field for recall training with my pup. An ok trail for walking, and not that many dogs :) (bonus that i can train outside the dog park, my dog is dog reactive)

I really enjoyed myself at this park!! Finding it was a task but once I got here the plants and greenery sucked me in. They have a path along the riverbend so that was delightful. The playground was even better it had different structures that my kids enjoyed. It wasn't like the same old park you see everywhere. The tennis courts basketball courts were peaceful. Overall this is one of me and my kids favorite park to go to especially because it's about 3 minutes from our horse stables. I didn't see any funny business while we were here and I seen a police officer sitting in his car observing the park. I felt safe and the park was clean.

I absolutely LOVE this park. I've came a few times to take my dog to the dog park but no one was there each time we went. The park is HUGE. It's huge, it's clean, it's well kept and it's in a nice area. They have areas for birthday parties, grass is really green, they have a couple of playgrounds, they have a lil green area with a pathway and lil benches, the have handball courts, basketball courts and they have enough space for baseball or soccer games

I really love this park when it's empty. It feels really peaceful and the many different trees keep it nice and fresh. Me and my boyfriend have been coming here for more than four years. Now we bring our daughter for walks and have a picnic once and a while. I discovered this park along time ago when I was serious about running. I used to run along the riverbed in the afternoons and watch the beautiful sunset Bc you get a good view as it's setting behind the freeway. I'm not giving this park 5 stars Bc the downer to this beautiful park is that it somehow became the hangout spot for potheads and classic car enthusiasts. But on a good day, usually Sunday mornings for us, you do get to enjoy its beauty. Ps. Oh I forgot to include that sometimes you get to see horse riders since there are two ranches near by.

They provide doggy bags for our pups messes (:

The dogpark portion of the park was filthy. No baggies available for trash pick up. Poop was everywhere.

Temple Park is located in west Downey, just north of Los Amigos Golf Course…read more Accessible via Stewart and Gray Road, it sits in the middle of a nice neighborhood. It's a very small park and playground area with a couple of bbq pits and several picnic tables. The Park was originally dedicated in 1968 (according to http://www.thedowneypatriot.com/) and was said to have had a pretty cool spiral slide... too bad I never had the chance to see it. At any rate, a new playground was put in and the park was re-dedicated in July of this year ('15). There are two swings for older ages. The only way your baby or younger toddler will get to swing is if you hold them in your lap. No baby swings are available. The area with the slide is nice, but I can't imagine kids any older than preschool really wanting to spend much time here unless you brought a frisbee or something. Both of these area have wood chips (bark mulch) instead of sand or rubber mulch, etc. as the surfacing. If the entire area was fenced in, I might like it better when I have both of our girls to myself. It's not a real busy area with traffic, but there were a few cars moving in and out while we were there on 9/17/15. It was around 11:30 a.m. when we went there and not a soul was in sight. Also, I really wish that the City would develop a better way to contain trash that was probably placed into the open barrel trash cans but made its way back onto the playground and lushes grass areas. Fair amount of street parking available. Review #397 Yelp challenge 78/100

I don't visit the South Gate area often, so my visits to the City of Bell Gardens will be rare. The only reason I wanted to visit this park was because from an overhead perspective on Google Maps Satellite View, it looked like a nice, serene place to stretch your legs and relax for a little while. With a duck pond in the middle of the park and plenty of walkways around the park, I was starting to feel this could be Bell Garden's equivalent of Wilderness Park in Downey minus the parking fee for visitors who reside in a different city. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return to this park next time I'm in Bell Gardens. The park is located adjacent to the Bell Gardens Sports Center, and I almost thought the two were connected to one another, but it would be a really long walk from one end to the other. There appeared to be a gate in the back corner of the park that led to the back corner of the sports complex, but the "No Trespassing" sign deterred me from walking in that direction. I parked on the east end of the park where there is a playground and a couple of basketball courts by the adult school. The playground and the basketball courts seemed to be in fine condition, but nobody was playing there when I went. Towards the west, you'll see a myriad of picnic tables scattered about, so it does feel pretty open in that area. However, the grass is definitely greener in other parks, and I should have taken that as a sign of things to come when I was walking towards the duck pond. As I'm walking about the duck pond, I was literally grossed out by a ton of filth both on the walkways as well as at the pond's edges. No joke, there were so much filth on the corners that it almost looked like you could walk across them, but of course, I would never put my foot in the water just to try. If I did, I'd almost certainly need a new shoe! In one of those corners, I saw three turtles that appeared they were trying to slowly but surely fight their way towards the surface of the pond so as to not drown. I almost thought they were dead, but I did witness some slight movement in them, a glimmer of hope that they could have been saved if animal control were in the area. But with how filthy and murky these waters were, I didn't want to put my hands in there, and I didn't know what to do to save them. As much as I wanted to, I had to leave them be :( The ducks swimming in the cleaner parts of the pond or standing on the fringe were in much better spirits, though the ones on land barely exhibited any movement whatsoever, perhaps symbolic of how inactive this park is even in good weather. There was construction nearby, which necessitated a great deal of fences around the park. Some of the fences blocked the walkway around the pond, so I had to walk in the grass/dirt between the pond and the fence while circumnavigating the pond. I don't know what that construction was about, but I hope something good will come of it. During my visit, it was a bothersome nuisance in my trying to immerse myself in relaxing scenery. The restrooms weren't in good condition either. The sink I used was barely working, and I didn't want to even bother with the hand dryer. Lastly, a lot of the parkgoers acted kind of weird that I can understand why the playground and basketball courts were empty on an otherwise beautiful day. I didn't really feel safe in the park, and I was starting to worry that one of those weirdos would heckle me. Luckily, nobody did. Overall, I regret stopping by this park. It does not appear to be maintained well, and I can't be certain this area is safe if I didn't see that many people there. If I do make a return visit to this area, I would rather stop by the adjacent sports complex next door even though I don't play sports, but I at least could watch some soccer players practicing on the fields there.

The runner's track is clear of debris and exclusively for runners, as indicated by signs. Parking is limited in the designated area, prompting some visitors to park on shaded streets nearby. While there are no public restrooms, two porta-potties are available. Throughout the park, you'll find numerous workout machines, conveniently located, including those near the porta-potties. With multiple entrances, this park is easily accessible, and due to its proximity to a residential area, you might encounter a cat or two. It's worth noting that during my visit, I observed a homeless man sleeping inside the park. Despite this, the park is generally well-kept, although there is an issue with feces in certain areas. On a positive note, there's a Little Free Library near the parking lot, promoting the sharing of books provided by a nonprofit. Operating hours are from 7 AM to 8 PM, ensuring a peaceful environment. The only downside I have to mention is that recreational football and soccer teams frequently visit for practice, which the park is not set up for. It's quite small and should not be utilized as a sport practice meet up. This is what deters me from visiting more frequently. Parking fills up, balls are flying every which way, and it can get quite noisy. Not my ideal setting for some relaxing cardio. I still recommend this park, as the city of Paramount takes great care and it is regularly maintained nice and clean.
