I really hate giving them a bad review because the owner, Holly, was just lovely! She did my husband's mani pedi and he was very happy. Someone else did mine, and I was less than impressed. We recently moved to the area. We loved our former nail salon and the ladies that we had time after time. Moving to Auburn, we have tried 4 salons now and haven't found the right one. Reading Holly's great reviews we thought this was it! I was surprised that there was no menu of services to choose from, but being kind of an older school place, I thought that they'd just ask me as we went along. Didn't happen. My person did use callous remover without me asking, but she totally missed my very obvious callouses on my big toes! Manicure time - she just massaged my hands, not my arms. I noticed that my hubby got the full treatment: lots of massage, arms done up to the elbows. I commented on this, and the answer was that since he didn't get a color on his nails, they gave him "extra". Since when is it "extra" to do an arm massage as part of a regular manicure? Typically, everyone gets the same treatment and if polish is declined, oh well. Although it was nice that he got something "extra" in lieu of polish, I should have had that arm massage too! (I have my own nails, no acrylics, wraps etc.) We were the only people in the place; after we left, we decided to have dinner across the way, and I noticed looking out the window that they had no other customers; they closed up 1/2 hour early and left. Seems like business was so slow they might have wanted to add on some services and get some extra money from us. Also, I was kind of annoyed with them for not taking credit cards. When I called to make the appointment, they told me in advance that they had an ATM machine there but it wasn't working, so be sure to bring cash. For $45 each, I felt like we didn't get much. We will continue our quest for the perfect place! read more

I went here for a gel pedicure and then my 3 yr old daughter had a simple color. They were super sweet and friendly and the facility was overall clean and organized. However, the massage chair I sat in barely worked and made a continuous squeaking sound. That didn't bother me nearly as much as the lack of precision on my gel pedicure that I paid $45 dollars for. I just moved to town and was so excited to find my new favorite nail salon. I've been getting my nails done loyally every few weeks in my old hometown and the reviews looked excellent here. But won't be going back. First issue was partially my fault. I like dips over gels. Much gentler on my nails and better look. When I walked in they said "no dip" so instead of finding another place, I decided to go back to gels (because reviews for this salon were so great). Probably shouldn't have. Second, when I walked in, I was ready to drop lots of $$ by adding a gel pedi too. My first day with a babysitter in months and I was ready to indulge. But the vibe seemed off. Only one customer in the place, with one free nail specialist. She didn't seem thrilled and quickly sat me down. No welcoming upsell to add a pedi so I didn't bring it up as she seemed inconvenienced (2 hours before closing). She seemed to struggle a bit taking off my dips to prep for gels but I figured they were experts and all was well. When my nails were done they looked a bit "lumpy bumpy" so I guess she didn't completely remove my dip base. Also edges weren't smooth, nails scratchy, and some edges of color went over my cuticles. Not perfect but I would deal with it. However, within one day, it was chipping. Majorly. She had buffed my natural nails so much for dip removal, they were thin so when gel chipped, my nails peeled away and broke. Now a week later, almost all fingers are chipped as in photos. Looks awful. Normally I would have called for repair or refund and given them a 2nd chance - but I left on vacation right after my visit so wouldn't be back in the area for another 2 weeks. Guess I'll find another favorite local spot. $48 for something that looks like my uncoordinated self did with a cheap bottle of polish. read more

Went in for a gel mani. Not bad but not exceptional. Asked to cut shorter but she cut so short that it was into my nail bed. Very painful. Also I am not a fan of filing prior to soaking. Use the dremel tool, not an emory board. I was jerking away due to sensitivity the whole time. I also asked to have.my thumbs strengthened with acrylic cuz they tend to break easily. I was told they didn't need it and she only dipped them after I insisted. I'm used to paying more and I know you get what you pay for. Just felt rushed and not pampered. I'm so elated to have found my go-to nail salon so close to home! I came in for a pedicure & a fill on my acrylics. Christine did both. The pedicure massage was truly the best I think I've had and Christine took her time. I mismanaged my time, and since I had to get to work I hurried her through my fill. I had to leave, but she sent me off still looking good (we just skipped the last coat of gel polish). Holly, the owner, told me I could come back in the following day if I wanted the last coat, so I did. Holly not only did that for me, but also took her time to shape my "coffin" shaped nails to perfection. Another great experience at Holly's nails. Ive been coming back to Holly's nails every 3 weeks on the dot since I discovered them a few months ago. I have worked with Holly, another woman and a man. I don't have a preference because they are all awesome! I guess they all kind of have their specialties too. The quality is top notch. Ive never needed any repairs and they have been able to preserve my natural nail, I haven't needed tips in 6 months (and that was my first time getting nails in a few years) They are very gentle and skilled with the drill and the salon itself is very clean. For a fill and color change, I'm usually in and out in under an hour. They really listen to what you want and put a lot of attention to detail into the entire process, from the manicure to the shape, to the art. On top of the nails being top notch, the environment is so relaxing. They play beautiful classical music and it's very mellow. I straight up almost fell asleep in my chair. They offer water, they are friendly and engaging, they are skilled manicurists and artists, they are totally normally priced too! Around $40/set (ishhh) the foot and leg massage is great for a nail salon too (I'm a massage therapist and biased so that's saying something). I recommend Holly's nails 100%. Especially for those of you who are regulars like me. read more

Went in today with my 10 year old daughter. We wanted to get our toes done for our trip to Hawaii. Wow!!! What a great little place this is!! The ladies inside were extremely nice. Chi worked on my toes but I'm not sure what the name of the lady who worked on my daughter - however, she was incredibly patient with her. They were very kind and made us very comfortable. The massage.......one of the best I've ever had. I almost fell asleep, usually I'm extremely ticklish and have a difficult time when my feet get touched. Chi applied the perfect pressure and I didnt feel the need to squirm out of my chair. The atmosphere is relaxing and the shop is clean. They did cute little designs on both of our toes too! I decided to give Holly Nails a try since it's got great reviews. I didn't have a reservation so I called and asked to see if I can get a walk-in basic manicure, I just want a cuticles clean up basically. I ended up bleeding, the staff poured Nick Relief Powder on both of my ring fingers... then it stung when she was adding the nail polish on... as you can see from the photo. Black color is my blood, it is also under the nail polish... on 3 of my nails it has a tiny bubble on the surface. I appreciated the walk-in and the owner was friendly but not the pain and bleeding from the staff who did my manicure... : ( I really had high expectations of this place due to the reviews. read more

It's tucked away in an older shopping center, but it's conveniently located on Hwy. 49/Grass Valley Hwy. and it's obvious the moment that you step through the door that it's a professional salon. I've gotten fake nails here before and Holly did an amazing job. She's very nice and willing to go the extra mile to make a customer happy. However, I'm not a huge fan of fake nails and I'm here to tell you specifically about my experience getting a gel manicure. Gel nail polish is applied to your real nails and is set with a special uv light. The polish lasts longer than normal polish. I got a gel manicure a few days ago in San Jose and they did a horrible job so yesterday I want into Holly nails to get them fixed. They have a huge selection of colors and options for designs.
