This no-frills spa is on par with the best in all the important ways- skills, service, and convenience. I had a prenatal massage with Elsa. I have had many massages over the years, including some really fancy ones, and I think Elsa's skills are in the top 10. She has great technique and intuition. She positioned well for comfort and draped appropriately for modesty. She quickly and accurately identified painful and sore muscle groups and adjusted her focus accordingly. She adapted to feedback graciously and effectively. I ended up extending my massage- it was that good! So after my baby was born, I reached out to Holiday Spa again to see if they could help with postnatal massage. Using text for translation to ensure understanding due to the language barrier, I was able to schedule with their postpartum masseur. They graciously offered a flexible start time as well as a double room to accommodate my breastfeeding baby and a caregiver, and they were very patient and understanding when I was unable to make it to the appointment, and very kindly rescheduled me, saying that as mothers themselves, they understood the challenges of newborn parenting and wanted to support me. The customer service was truly excellent. I am grateful for this business and look forward to establishing a regular schedule here. read more

I have had several 60 minutes massages here by Lisa and they were amazing. The pressure points were good and she was able to work through the stress knots in my shoulder. This place does not get as much credit as they deserve. I have been going here for over 10 years. I started going here when I was working retail and as a waitress because standing up for so long, my feet would hurt so bad. I can't afford really fancy places that you have to make appointments for. So people who are expecting high end quality should look elsewhere. If you are looking for a decent massage for a very good price, I would highly recommend. I usually use Jason or Mimi because I have found personally out of everyone that they are able to get the job done for my body. This place is very clean and very comfortable. There are individual rooms however the top is not covered so you can hear other people which I do find awkward, especially when people are making grunting, noises and snoring. But I am always happy with the service and the front staff especially when you call and ask them if you can come in. This is the second time that I've come here that I got the really bad guy. The first time I had him he was so exhausted that he fell asleep twice...TWICE during my foot massage. The second time I came here, he was just digging into the bones of my feet with what felt like his knuckles. I literally told him if he just lightly massaged up and down with very little effort, I would be fine with that, which he would do for a few seconds and then go back to digging. I come here because it's minutes from my house and is purely convenient but there is a part of me that feels bad for him because he probably did not get much training and this could possibly be his second job. Wow! Incredible experience. I highly recommend! I asked for the 90 minute special (60 min full body + 30 min foot massage). They customized my massage as prenatal since i'm just starting my 3rd trimester. I felt taken care of from the moment I walked in! The lady at the front desk was so warm, sweet and funny, welcomed me and explained the pricing and service. My temperature was taken and I was informed that the staff is now fully vaccinated. The entire experience and facility was safe, clean and comfortable. They also listened to my needs as I shared having sciatica pain and got plenty of work focused on that area. Both of my massages were among the best I've ever had. Sue has magical hands and is extremely skilled at feeling for where you need extra attention. I had the perfect combination of firm, medium and light massage in just the right areas and never once felt like the tension was in areas that could harm baby. Very well calculated and skilled! I also had never heard of a prenatal massage that accommodates women with a belly and breast indented foam and WOW what a difference! I was able to lie face down on a cushion that seemed to have been designed for my body and bump. Sooo comfortable! I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews. I've only been here twice and today was my second time. The first time was probably a year or so ago. I live in the valley so I'm not in the area often. But both times I was greeted by a very nice woman who was upfront about the prices (discounted if you pay cash) and offered me bottled water upon my arrival. Both times I got the 30 minute foot massage and 60 minute body massage. Both times I requested Jeson since he was recommended by a good friend. I called today at 12:15 and requested a 1 pm appt. Luckily Jeson was available . First you go to a room with comfy chairs that recline as much or as little as you want. It's dimly lit, very clean and you get to do a foot soak then you get to relax to a nice foot and lower leg massage listening to calming music. After that you go to the room for your body massage, and it's a dimly lit room with relaxing music. I thoroughly enjoyed my massage and I didn't even have to tell him what I wanted. He knew all my problematic areas and did not go so hard that it was painful which is what I have experienced at other places. He made sure I was comfortable and was very polite and respectful. I also like that they do not skimp on the minutes. You get your moneys worth and the entire time which is the full 60 mins and 30 mins. Most places like massage envy and other chains will deduct 10 to 15 minutes for dressing/undressing. But here you will definitely get the full amount of time you paid for. I also used the restroom which was immaculately cleaned. After my massage Jeson waited for me in the check in area to give me another bottle of water and thanked me for coming in along with the nice lady I checked in with. Both times were great experiences. The fact that both of my appointments were so far apart and were consistent, indicates to me this is how they normally run their business. I would definitely recommend this place. You pay for your services upon arrival. There are signs stating there are no refunds so if you are unhappy within the first 10 minutes of your service, you should let them know so they can get someone else to provide the service for you. I think if people would speak up and say they are not happy maybe that would eliminate some of these negative reviews. I know within the first 10 minutes if it's gonna be a good service or not. It's ok to speak up. Different therapists specialize in different techniques and pressures. I think it's important to mention that upon check-in so they can ensure you get matched with someone who is a good fit for you. I came in to get a massage last week in dire need of some relaxation.. it was the most uncomfortable and one of the most painful experiences I've ever had.. My 30 minute foot massage was conducted in a cold, dark room.. the lady didn't introduce herself, but brought out a bucket of hot water for me to soak my feet in.. the massage didn't feel like a massage at all, rather a very vigorous lotioning, then some pricks at the ends of my toes to finish off the 30 minutes.. I was then walked down the hallway and pointed in the direction of the restroom and told to "peepee" (far be it for me to pass up an offer to go peepee).. then she walked me over to my room where she left the room and closed the door, without any instruction to disrobe.. The 1 hour massage was basically another vigorous lotioning, with the addition of Indian burns and sharp elbows.. I was constantly telling her that it was too much pressure.. she would say sorry and keep going without adjusting the pressure, no matter how much I would wince or pull away in pain.. she also was massaging along my spine, which hurt like hell.. The next day I woke up in sooooo much pain and with BRUISES on my back from the vigorous lotioning and Indian burning.. I called the establishment and spoke to the manager, May, who told me that it was normal, it was probably muscle pain, and to call her back in 2 days if I was still in pain.. It has now been a week and a half and my back is still in so much pain.. Upon calling May again, I was informed that she was not going to give me a refund.. she also instructed me to go to my doctor and have them write me a note saying that the pain that I have been suffering is from the massage. If I do so, Holiday Spa will turn it into their insurance company, but I STILL won't receive a refund because they "can't give refunds after 1 hour after the massage" (even if I was instructed to call them back after a few days).. ain't nobody got time for that.. This has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever come across.. not to mention the worst massage I have ever had.. I hope this was an isolated incident, because if it's not then the BBB needs to be aware of this place and their "licensed massage therapists".. read more

I've Been going to Holiday Spa for over 15+ Years. All was Great until recently, I had specifically requsted for " Yo Yo", as I was very happy and grateful for the prior massage with "Yo Yo". Unfortunately on 4/11/2022, The Massage was a total FAIL, "Yo Yo' seemed to be lazy, and moved around me while sitting in her chair for 90 minutes. Unfocused on an actual massage vs. just rubbing and what seemed like petting me like a Dog. I still tipped "Yo Yo" $12.00, as I'm pretty easy going and an excellent Tipper, throughout my life, thus so far. Now, here is the Kick In The Head, Upon exiting "Holiday Spa" "Yo Yo" wasn't satisfied with her tip, she verbally expressed this with the Lady at the front desk, " I Asked, how much more do you want ? " I was absolutely Appalled / Floored by this, Unbelievable ! Although, I had never experienced anyone or an establishment asking for a larger tip, I gave "Yo Yo" $3.00 more equalling = $15.00. At this time, I wanted to just exit A.S.A.P. just to avoid my anger escalating into something worse. This was all Unorthodox to me. All and All, I will never go back to "Holiday Spa" and Avoid "Yo Yo". My suggestion is you the customer do the same. I'm always willing to pay more, for a high quality, and satisfying commerce Transaction, No Matter what I'm Paying for, But this time, The Transaction / Massage proved to be Unsatisfactory, Thank You for reading my displeasing experience. I have been coming here for about 8 years and it used to be a great reflexology massage for a good price but over the years it's has doubled in price and there are only a couple of good masseuses .... I had a foot reflexology massage yesterday and the guy fell asleep multiple times, rubbed the same spot for 10 minute, didn't do the same on both feet, didn't do any leg or the head and made me sit up for the last part for my back and used his knee and elbows! I walked out MAD and upset that I literally just paid $50 for something my 9 yr old niece could have done better! And then they stand there waiting for their tip but how can you even tip them the way you want to when the cashier and two other people are standing there and when I asked for change for a $20. She says how do you want me to give it to them as if I'm giving them (2 guys bc I took my 22 yr old niece with me) so I ended up tipping them ea $10 when I Did Not Want To Even Pay $50 for a crappy hour wasted and felt worse when I left, than when I got there expecting a nice relaxing hour of great "reflexology" but no reflexology was done! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING and Not sure I will ever go back??!! Honestly I feel They owe me another session with someone who can actually do reflexology and not fall asleep! I vide recorded him falling asleep and then jerking awake at least 5 times and then just pushes the same spot as if that's a reflexology pressure point but it's NOT! I was in need of massage. It was after 10 pm my regular place was already Closed. So I hit my Yelp App.and Holiday Spa popped up. So i jumped into my Urban Assault Whip and rolled to Castro Valley. I was able to park in front of Holiday Spa. They are located in a Strip mall . I rolled in and was greeted by the Cashier paid the Massage fee and was shown to a Massage room, My Masseuse showed up and went to work. Just what the doctor ordered . What makes this place stand out is the professionalism (not a lot of native conversation amongst workers), quickly greeted, ambiance, cleanliness, privacy, and minimal noise...of course you'll get the occasional loud customer or someone who didn't turn off their phone with no regard to others but overall, this is one of the better asian massage places! What to expect with a 60 min body ($40) massage: * pay upfront (for all services) * brought to a private room with walls (not all the way up the ceiling), doors with a small window, which is your own private space unless you want 2 people to a room * remove clothes except bottoms and get under the sheets face down * massage with oils, and later get 'rubbed' down with warm/towels to remove * upper body, legs, arms, face and scalp massage...and um, your glutes...first time having that done...as my masseuse pulled down my bottoms (respecting privacy) and massaged away...heck, enjoy it! * leave with big hair (and a bird's nest) as your head gets massaged and rubbed...bliss! Definitely a good experience and my suggestion on tipping (this is my logic), is you're getting an inexpensive massage that you'd pay $65 - $85 elsewhere (not incl tip) ...so i tip 15-20% on that ($10 to $16) which still makes your hour massage about $55. You are in for a not-so-fun treat here! PLAY BY PLAY: Arrive at 5:15pm with two friends. Pay for massage (50 min foot massage + 10 min back/shoulder massage) at cashier desk first. When you use a credit card, there's a $2 credit card fee so your $25 foot massage comes out to $27. However, if you're purchasing 2 massages under one card, you STILL get charged $2 credit card fee PER massage. Ain't that some Booshit. 5:25pm: Get seated in lavish red leather chairs. Massage therapists come out with warm bucket of water to soak feet in. They go back into their backroom. --Crickets start chirping-- 5:32pm: Massage therapists come out and starts rubbing lotion on your feet and legs all while starting small conversation with you. Between 5:32pm - 6:15pm: Massage therapists talk to each other in their native language. Some therapists applying too much pressure. At least one of us asks our therapist to tone down the pressure. Around 6pm: One of the massage lady farts. No apologies were sent. 6:15pm: We get up and go into semi-private rooms for our 10 minute back/shoulder massage. Massage therapist leaves for a few minutes. 6:20pm: Massage therapist returns and drapes a thick fleece blanket on your back and gently kneads your back, shoulders, and part of your legs. 6:30pm: Massage therapist does a quick 2 second neck massage, slaps my whole body, and says we're done. 6:32pm: Walks out, leaves tip, and says goodbye. OVERALL OPINION: -Not so relaxing or therapeutic whatsoever. -The back and shoulder massage felt like a child trying to massage me. Massaging through my clothes and a thick fleece blanket doesn't work! -Cashier lady was very rude in which she asked us to tip ahead of time -Therapists don't really know "feet reflexology". They're just massaging the whole area making sure it's been massaged. -What's with the expensive credit card fee? I know restaurants/shops have $0.50 processing fees to offset the fees THEY have to pay when customers use credit card but $2 dude?! -The massage was so MEH. There were too many gaps in between where the massage therapists went into their backroom to do who knows what. All in all, there were a lot of awkward silence. -The lady who farted. First half was her lathering lotion on my body. No massage whatsoever. After 20 minutes or so in I lifted my head up and requested a new person. Totally ignored my request & then began massaging me. While in Castro Valley, I went here a few times last summer and it was great. I had gotten the reflexology/massage mix and I felt my day's tension melt away, felt relaxed, my knots were gone and the pressure was what was needed. The rooms here look relatively clean, and the massage itself is not bad. The masseuse that gave the massage was very strong in the sense that I was sore in certain areas after she massaged me. I however didn't mind that so much because leaving there I felt really relaxed. My fiance treated us to the 60min full body massage with oil ($40pp if paying by cash). As I said earlier, the full body massage used oils. The good thing is the oil they used did not smell. I honestly couldn't smell it at all which is usually something I'm afraid of when getting massages. It sucks to have really fragrant oils rubbed all over you if you can't shower immediately after at their facility. Which brings me to another point, this is not your "spa" type facility where you get hot tubs, showers etc. It's literally, get your massage and go. The beds you lie on were warm which is always a nice touch, and I really liked their hot towel at the end where they basically wipe you off. It felt pretty good. The only thing that did bother me (even though I was warned by my fiance who read the yelp reviews) was that the masseuses did talk to each other during the massage. Knowing they would do that still bothered me. It was a bit harder to full relax and fall asleep during the massage when people are talking you know?
