Have had Holiday Pools service my in-ground pool for years (20+). They were great for a long time - friendly pool cleaners, great service at a reasonable price. The last few years though... I don't know if the business changed hands and has new ownership, but it feels like it. The friendly, helpful pool guy we used to have was replaced by someone who's primary goal was, seemingly, to get in and out of there as quickly as possible. Corners were being cut and the level of service was falling, while the cost kept rising. Many times I wasn't sure that the guy had even come that week - there was no evidence of him having been there. I called the office about it and was told to call the service tech. I did and tried to have a conversation about what seemed to be happening. He immediately got very defensive and refused to speak to me. His boss got on the phone and started arguing with me about how they were actually doing the level of service they promised, despite the obvious reality. This animosity died down eventually and they continued to maintain our pool, and were actually doing a better job. The pool almost always looked pretty good despite the short weekly visits. The prices kept going up though, eventually reaching $160/mo for short, 10-minute weekly visits. They complained about the number of trees surrounding the pool but still managed to be in and out in under 15 minutes every time no matter what. Just this week we found a note on the door saying that Holiday Pools is breaking up with us as of the end of the month. No reason, just "call the owner if you have questions." I'm not going to bother. It's time for us to move on as well. Too bad... a great old Chico business slowly pricing and complaining itself out of existence. read more

I had Lee come out on a service call to my Paradise address. They let me know they'd have a on-site diagnostic fee, which I agreed to. My spa was showing a FLO2 error. Lee came out and checked out our Sundance 850 spa (Older, 2006 model) and measured the voltage coming from the board to the circulation pump and stated that it was not providing enough power. He gave the recommendation to replace the board. After talking with him further on it, we talked about the work I had done on the board already with the relays (I replaced them and re-soldered them). He then stated that it'd probably be worth it for me to order the board and replace it myself as there'd be no sense with paying him since he believed I could do it. I've since replaced the board (Cost me around $650), but the issue is still happening. The board was installed and powered up, no errors showing except the original FLO2 error. I called up Chico Holiday Pools & Spas again and requested they come back out, as I feel it was misdiagnosed. Lee refused to come back out free of charge to re-diagnose the issue, as the board wasn't replaced by them. I'm not sure why that would matter as I am receiving the exact same error, but that was their stance. As such, I wanted to leave this review for those who might be in my same situation in the future to make you aware. If you're looking simply for a diagnosis, I'd go elsewhere. EDIT: I verified the circuit board was set up correctly. I also tested continuity for the fuses and other sections of the board, such as TB6 (What controls the sanitizer). All continuity works without issue, except the TB2 (black), which Lee stated must be the control board and subsequently blamed on my wiring. After a board replacement and verifying my work, I hardly doubt that is it. I was only told the main board was the issue and wasn't told that other aspects, such as the flow switch or main control panel, could be the issue as well (Which is unconfirmed until I do further research - which I shouldn't have to do, as I paid someone else to diagnose and asked for their assistance after their recommended remediation didn't work). I'll reach out to the board manufacturer and see what else controls the relay for the circulation pump and update back, as I'm not convinced the main board is (or ever was) the issue. As they stated themselves, this seems pretty basic. EDIT 2: I disconnected the flow switch and sure enough got power to TB2 (black) for the circulation pump. This cleared my error for FLO2 as well. Looks like my flow switch is bad. It's unfortunate that the shop wasn't willing to come back out and check it out, as I paid them to diagnose this. Especially since I shelled out $650 for a main board I didn't need + their fee to get nothing from it. Oh well. read more

We went to find a vacuum for our above ground pool. Thinking we we're talking to a expert, we explained our problem with our pool. He suggested a leaf vacuum that uses only a hose to pick up the debry. We again thought we we're talking to an expert to his advise and bought it, just to get it home and as soon as we put it in the pool, realized this did not work at all!! We then returned it in the original packaging with the receipt just to be told they can't take it back, because it was used!!!!! Don't bother going to this place! Not helpful at all!! read more

Need More knowledge with parts replacement parts for pools . I even brought the pieces in to show them what I needed. They had no clue. Lee was not there . It was a kid who just walked me back to an area that didn't have much . And said we don't Carry Hayward parts . The parts are actually not under the Hayward name . Parts are actually from a (chlorinator ) but I did not know that . Not only that but wasted time driving to two places to find holiday pool supplies, and empty building over by habitat Burger off of East and Cohasset no body there empty building . Then looked at my gps took me to another building that was occupied by Holbrook's furniture finally I called them and said where are you guys? They said they're over by La Comida. But the day didn't end so bad. I finally went to the right place as soon as I walked in, they said can I help you I handed them the parts they knew right away what the parts where for they didn't ask me if it was above ground pool or underground pool . read more

We decided to find a new pool service option when Holiday raised our fee by $20 month. When we went in to tell Gary about the change he said " when you come back it won't be $140 a month, it will be $160." With this attitude, we would pay anyone else than Holiday Pools. read more

My pool had not seen much use in years and we decided to revitalize it. They replaced the pool heater and booster pump and the lights in the spa and the pool. Price was very reasonable, they communicated well and got to it in a timely fashion. I was very happy with the service and highly recommend. read more

Terrible customer service. I never write reviews, but the experience I had today was something else. Got my pool serviced a couple times because the first time they didn't do it right, and both times they went in to my backyard and left without a knock on the door or anything. After the second visit the problem still wasn't fixed so I went into the store to talk to them and ask why it's still not working and they didn't have any answers to my questions. Why should I pay for a service TWICE and still not have the problem fixed? Didn't realize this pool company didn't specialize it pools. The only thing I got was yelled at by a arrogant & condescending kid who couldn't even answer a single question. Definitely don't waste your time on these people. I was working with another spa repair company to replace a broken ozonator for my hot tub. After 3.5 months, multiple appointment cancellations, one visit to investigate the issue, one visit to install (at one point routing the tubing incorrectly) and then several other appointment cancellations that were meant to figure out why it wasn't working, I finally called Holiday Pools to fix my hot tub. There happened to be an opening that day, Lee called to see if he could come out early and showed up knowing what the problem was based on my description, cleaned a part and then replaced it when cleaning improved but didn't fully fix the issue. After 20 minutes my ozonator is now working correctly. read more

We had been with Holiday pools since 2003, they were servicing the pool when we bought the house so we just continued with them. Over the years the service has gone up and down and they seem to have a high turnover rate as there is always a new service guy every few months. It has gotten worse in the last couple years, with us always having to call them to let them know our pool is green........again! We hired them as they are the pool professionals, not us, so when they tell us we need a new this or a new that, we purchase it because they are the experts, right??? Wrong!!! We went out of town for a long weekend few weeks ago, came home to a green pool. Called them and the service guy says: "Oh yeah, you need a new filter system, someone was supposed to call you!" Ok, no called us, so we asked what he is going to do about it because they have been maintaining it, so wouldn't they have known and why would they not call us to let us know what was going on? Its been 100+ degrees and we want to use our pool. We call the store, the person who answered said,: "oh, yeah, you need a new filter, its $980.00, you want us to order it?" We asked what was wrong with the one we had? Can it just be cleaned or serviced? He said: "No, you need a new one, that one is too old and we dont service these, they dont even sell parts for it anymore!" We asked him why the pool sweep was going so slow and not picking up anything? He said: "You may need a new one, those dont last very long these days!" We had our neighbors pool service guy come look at it and give us a second opinion. Surprise!!! We did NOT need a new $980.00 Filter system, we just needed our Holiday pool service guy to clean our filter!! Joey took the cover off, and took the filters off and scrubbed them and got them looking great, and confirmed what we thought, we did not need a new filter system, just needed our service guy to put in a little elbow grease. And as far as the pool sweep, we did not need to replace the one we just bought from them last year, just need to replace the broken part and a couple wheels!!! Save your money and get yourself a trustworthy company to service your pools, not a company that just cares about selling you new equipment every time something is not working the way it should be! Makes we seriously consider how much money we wasted over the years purchasing unnecessary equipment from them when we really didn't need it!! Obviously Holiday Pool's owner could care less about you as a customer. I called them yesterday and asked weren't we paying to have our pool brushed every week during the service, the owner said yes, I said well the pool steps and bottom have dirt dust on them quite a bit, he says well in your area there is a lot of dust, I said it was just done this morning, he says well my pool can have the dust back in it from a brushing in the morning to the afternoon, I said then take me to your house cause I'd like to see it because I don't believe that, He just kept offering excuses and I finally said I watched the cleaning guy this morning and he did not brush it, he says let me give you his number and you call him, I said aren't you the owner, you need to call him, he says well that's why they carry a cell phone. I thought you got to be kidding, this guy should have said I will send it back out to brush your pool but he didn't. I then told him just cancel my service and he didn't care, how an owner can act like her does and expect people to do business with him is mind boggling. Please read Holiday's response to my original review. No apology, no allowance that they could have possibly made a mistake or done anything wrong. Instead the owner asserted it was my fault their inspection was a failure because I didn't double-check their work before I unpacked my underwear. My mistake for expecting to be able to trust a hired professional. What a jerk. I guess their customer service credo is, "The customer is always wrong." Please also notice that for $160 he admits all they do is turn on the pump and look at the system. Seems like a lot of money for 5 minutes worth of work, but even then they failed to complete the "looking" part of the work order. But, they give you a nice, typed report for that much money? Well, no. You get a dirty xerox of a fill-in-the-blank worksheet with third-grade penmanship. His alternative explanation of the problem is also abjectly false. There's no way filter grids degraded that much in a month or 3, or 60. It's pool water, not mining slurry, ffs. In fact, I got a letter from another pool place that estimated those grids were likely original with the filter, 10 or more years old, and had obviously failed a long time ago as indicated by multiple failed repair attempts with silicone and other adhesives. I used it as documentation of Holiday Pool's shoddy work to get my money back through MasterCard. Note: always pay with a credit card. If I had paid by check or escrow proceeds, I probably wouldn't have got my money back because it wasn't enough money for me to bother suing. They are still in business because pool maintenance and equipment are incredibly simple. The market will correct this oversight in the age of online shopping and social media where people can share their horror stories and look up youtube videos to do any kind of pool maintenance/repair/upgrade you can imagine. On the bright side, I'm really glad their business is holes full of water instead of freeways, schools, or anything we truly rely on...that'd be really scary. read more

Here's how a business can take a customer for a ride to the tune of four thousand dollars. I'll start from the beginning. I bought my house and it came with a large pool. It was green with algae and I needed to get it cleaned up. I called Holiday Pools and said I wanted it fixed up. They came out and replaced my pump, filters, sweeper, and sold me shock and algaecide. This ran me around three thousand dollars. Once the work was complete, they said the pool would clear up and never came back. My pool went right back to green. I called and was told to add more shock and clean the filters. I kept doing this for a month with no improvement. I purchased more shock and took them water samples. Same recommendations, more shock, clean the filters. Then black algae appeared and started spreading through the pool. Called again, same response, more shock, clean the filters but also hand scrub the black algae. Apparently its recommended you wear a snorkel and scrub chlorine tabs the entire circumference of the pool. I did this three times. Five hundred dollars later, my pool is still green and has black algae. I called again and was told..... yep, scrub the black algae and add more shock, plus clean the filters. Holiday Pools has no interest in getting my pool usable, just taking my money. I'd highly recommend finding a pool company that prides itself on workmanship and puts some effort into helping their customers. As of now, this company should be avoided. read more

I have used Holiday pools to replace my pool pump, then to replace my old DE filter, and then again to replace my pool light with a new LED multi-colored light. Each time, they have been efficient and professional. Scott, in particular, displayed great knowledge of pool equipment, and great customer service. I see great reviews (mostly) for their pool service. We are not thrilled with their hot tub repair service. We are into it about $1,500 and the problem has not yet been fixed, nor accurately identified. It's $100 just to show up and tell us it must be the electric. Several times. Holiday Pools services our pool. We had a problem with a unusually dirty pool. I called the office and Lee one of the owners came out himself inspected the pool then proceeded to service the pool and repair and replace some pool equipment parts. He felt so bad. He offered to not even charge us for these service calls (he had to make two trips on two different days to finally get it operating properly). We couldn't be more pleased with their care of our pool and they are always friendly and courteous. We would definitely recommend them to others. read more

I have done business with all the pool suppliers in Chico and seem to always circle back to a locally owned business that offer, friendly service both in the store and the field. Holiday pools and spa in my opinion is the only pool supply store and has been for several years. Recently I had an issue with my cleaning equipment. I brought the equipment into the store and they were able to order the parts I needed to fix my cleaner. They could have said I need to buy a new cleaner.
