My mother was a Highland Estates resident. She received a dementia diagnosis AND an eviction notice…read moreon October 9, 2025. The facility manager evicted her based on behaviors related to the dementia diagnosis. Management gave us until October 31, 2025, to vacate. We acted immediately on this official eviction notice. Between October 9th and 30th, we worked with geriatrician, Dr. Philip Woodall's office, Adult Protective Services, Comforts of Home Hospice, Oasis Senior Advisors, and Quality Moves to secure alternative, specialized housing. With this phenomenal team effort, she moved out on October 30, 2025. After forcing the eviction, Highland Estates management insisted we owed a 30-day notice and demanded November rent. They sent a FINAL DEMAND TO PAY notice dated November 12, 2025 and explicitly threatened to send my mother and me (her DPOA) to a Collection Agency in addition to pursuing legal action. We have consulted with an Elder Law Attorney who confirmed that their attempt to charge rent after initiating the eviction is invalid and their threat to pursue the DPOA is baseless. Highland Estates is using highly unethical and predatory tactics. They initiated the lease termination and then tried to collect an extra month's fee. Our experience has proven Highland Estates is exploitative of seniors and their families, particularly those dealing with the stress of a dementia diagnosis and an emergency housing transition. It demonstrates poor professional conduct and a lack of empathy for a vulnerable population. I hope this information prevents another family from experiencing this financial and emotional distress. *Follow-Up: Per the Highland Estates response below, we left a voicemail and were copied on an email with the Regional Director BEFORE posting this review. We never received a response. Both facility managers, who we were told were off-site the week before my mother's move-out, are either confused about company protocol or they lied about their communication with us.

I toured several assisted living communities in the northern suburbs of Austin while Mom was living in an independent living community and had chosen The Isle as the best fit for her when she needed more assistance, but it has turned out to be even better than I anticipated! Mom made the transition to assisted living after being hospitalized for influenza; she was very weak and not really "herself" (and I was super stressed!) when we moved her in. The kindness we both received from EVERYONE at The Isle has been incredible! Just to name a few... The Directory of Health Services, Arica, helped me set Mom up with a PCP who is excellent and who visits The Isle weekly. Arica and her staff not only immediately coordinated administration of all my mom's medications/treatments (including supplemental oxygen and nebulized medications), Arica also knows all the specifics of my mom's medical situation off the top of her head when I call her (she must have an amazing memory!). It really makes me feel confident that, during a medically complex time, my mom is getting great care. The entire therapy staff (physical, occupational, speech; Select Rehabilitation) at The Isle is phenomenal! My mom has been receiving daily therapy as her time in the hospital weakened her, so she needs a wheelchair now. I have every confidence that she won't need it for long with Mei, Dwayne, Amy and Ashley working with her! These guys already know (and treat) Mom as a person that they value, and they are working hard to help her get better! The caregivers at The Isle (shout out to Darla, Diane, Ali and Casey) have also been so kind to my mom! She was really scared when she moved in - in addition to being moved from the ER to hospital to in-patient rehab before landing at The Isle - she's dealing with 24/7 oxygen use and the wheelchair. She also was living independently before, so needing to rely on people she just met for pretty much everything was very new. I am so grateful to these women for their care! There are so many more people at The Isle that deserve mention - Megan for being so supportive to me (because it is a pretty stressful time when you are responsible for the care of your ill, elderly parent); Ruth for arranging a packed schedule of daily activities that my mom absolutely LOVES; Jacque (who is a nurse in addition to being the Ex Director) for being so open in her communication and inspiring confidence in her team; Andrew, who is so helpful and friendly and who knows where everything is; and Rose, who, just today, drove my mom (in her wheelchair) in a bus to a doctor's appointment and made me so grateful I didn't have to work out transferring her from the wheelchair to my car and back. When you tour assisted living facilities, to be honest, it really isn't your favorite day. But, I really felt like "the vibe" was good at The Isle and I decided, almost a year ago now, to trust them with caring for my mom when the time came that she needed it. Unfortunately, her UTI wasn't detected by in-house medical care and 3 hospital visits in April 2024. She was kicked out with no where else to go. We hurriedly moved her hospital bed, all personally paid for DME, clothing , and all personal belongings such as her clothes, furniture and pictures in 1.5 days as well as cleaned her room. She is now living back at home with my sister and I. To date we have NOT been reimbursed for May 2024 funds. It is my understanding this is an illegal act on the part of the Pointe. If any attorneys are reading this, please feel free to be added to my list to review and retain. I would like to add the person in charge of my mother's medication list did NOT provide an accurate list of meds. This could have been deadly. Last but not least, this facility makes you use Omnicare for medications. which I understand to be in litigation. He was also recovering from a broken hip and was using a walker. Aria had the safest facilities for my father to move around. The common areas have wood floors and less clutter than other communities. I felt my father was safe. My father enjoyed being able to enjoy the out side on his own with access to their courtyard. Not all communities are set up where your loved ones can enjoy outdoors when they want to. The Facility Manager was very helpful in helping set up my fathers room as well as hanging pictures. Since my father was an engineer, the Facilities Manager took the time to have many great conversations with my father. It is great that Aria is dedicated to Memory Care. They know how to take care of all levels. The separation of cognitive and non cognitive guests is priceless. My father was able to have conversations with other guests with similar challenges. Having a loved one in a home is all ways difficult but when you arrive at Aria you really do not feel you are in a nursing home. It helped me when I was visiting my father. Last but not least the Executive Director Ceri Mackenzie is there for you and your loved ones 24 hours. I have seen this first hand. She was there for helping me manage my fathers needs. Her experience and knowledge comes in handy as anything can happen any time when you are taking care of our elders. The team reacts positively to Ceri's experience and enthusiasm. To sum it up, Aria is a gem in senior community. It offers clean, safe, easy to navigate common area floor plan, spacious individual units and a lovely courtyard to enhance for my father's daily experience. Mostly importantly, the team members are friendly, caring and do not hesitate to come to aide whenever the unexpected need rises. My father actually thrived and showed improvement in matter of weeks under their care. . I have had other family members in Brookdale, Sunrise and, and Emeritus. Aria Memory Care is superior above all other communities. I would recommend Aria to any of my close friends and family.

Ceri Mackenzie is the medical director and she is very patient with the family and also with our Dad. She is knowledgeable and shares that knowledge to make us more comfortable with the transition. The nursing staff and aides have all been very friendly to Dad - especially Kristin, Melissa, Brandon and Jeannette - but they have all been wonderful.

It was a great relief for me, knowing she was being well taken care of, better than I could have done, and that she was safe and happy. I would not hesitate to have another family member live here.

I came to learn that the owner, Zalina, built this facility from the ground up nearly 30 years ago. It's no accident that Shenandoah Villas has been in business for that many years.

Meals were fine and staff so inattentative they allowed a client to eat with her fingers when a spoon would have been helpful. Staff expects family to get prescriptions in one day, because of lack of planning by Shenandoah, and have no comprehension that on line prescriptions are significantly cheaper for the family but take more than one day to receive. Staff protests when family members request a list of medications to order, things to get, etc. At times family members are treated as employees of Shenandoah. Staff seldom holds doors open for family members moving clients in a wheelchair and never helps family members get clients into and out of a vehicle. There are no religious services, group activities, daily exercises, hair stylists or someone to do nails and pedicures for their clients. Staff fussed at a woman who had a stroke because she couldn't hold her head upright. There is no evidence the staff has had any formal medical training and neither the staff or visiting Dr spotted a facial cancer. Socialization is not encouraged and clients are directed to go to their rooms after meals. There no DVR in the room of facility for clients to watch old time TV and shows. Chairs were placed in front of one of three exits because of a wandering Alzheimer's client. Fortunately the chairs were finally removed before any emergency occured. Senior management of this fiefdom is by a loud, dictatorial, power hungry, bossy would be warden. Absolutely no way this place deserves a 5*rating.

The excuse given was the pandemic. The food was poor quality and residents frequently waited 30-45 to get waited on because there was not adequate wait staff. The tables are so crowded together (because the Enclave couldn't or wouldn't hire enough wait staff to open the other dining room) that it was dangerous for residents using walkers or scooters to navigate between them. Thank goodness my mom did not need any assistance in her apartment. She was mobile and able to take her own medications. There was CONSTANT turnover in all areas including management. We gave 30 day notice, moved Mom to Brookdale (wonderful!)in June and now are fighting for the 1/2 month refund we are due. The incompetence at this facility is truly unbelievable. Don't move your loved one here!

This is a newer facility that shows well and the service staff are very friendly! Enough so that I…read moremoved my dad in here in October of 2022. Six months later, they notified us that rent was going up 14%. This is the Austin market -- rent increases are a fact of life! But when your entire demographic is on a fixed income, raising the rent at all six months in, much less by more than ten percent, suggests a certain disregard for the types of decisions that families make for eldercare. Nobody ever likes rent increases and we've always been accustomed to getting one each year in previous facilities. But as the Enclave collects a tidy 'community fee' of $2,500 when you move in, they have incentive to turn rooms over. I quote the outgoing director: "While I hope (your dad) will be able to stay here, I certainly understand if a change is needed based on finances." In other words: We'd like somebody else's community fee. A shame, because the people on the ground doing the work are good and the facility charges otherwise pretty reasonable rates. It'd just be nice if they stuck to them for more than six months.

There was a problem with the facility apartment insurance request. I paid and submitted the forms about a month prior to move-in and the first bill over 6 weeks later included a fee for not having insurance. I tried contacting the billing office and requested a call back to get things clarified. This did not happen and the problem was not fixed. I again went to Francine who has been my anchor at the Clairmont to get problems fixed. I finally received approval of the policy on October 17th but I had submitted the information in early August! In addition the bill itself was incorrect. The dinning room food has improved, per my father, but the utensils are still awful! I do wish your administrative staff would try using the forks at the facility and imagine that they have arthritis in their hands as these residents frequently do. My dad does better with most plastic forks than the forks supplied at the Clairmont. Please, this should be an easy upgrade. One thing we really appreciate is the ability to have a pet and to have a fenced "yard" area outside of their apartment. I think this adds a homey feel for many of the residents. Better water access would be a plus for those with outside plants. You have outside waste bins for doggy waste but no plastic bags at the one outside of the building for the last 6 weeks. Your showers do not have safety bars inside of the shower, Since most of the residents at this facility use walkers, canes or wheelchairs, why do you think it unnecessary to have a safety bar inside of the shower? This would be a considerate and wise upgrade for the apartments. Overall, we (the family) really like this facility and the people who live and work there. My Dad is still adjusting......
