I went to Hola today for lunch with two of my girlfriends. It was yummy! It wasn't very busy on a Sunday at 12:30. In fact, there were maybe 6 other people in the restaurant in addition to us. I ordered a strawberry lemon mojito that was delicious. We were served chips and salsa, with the green salsa being much better than the red. I also had tequila taco (steak tacos on corn tortillas) with rice and beans. The tacos were very good. Since it was my friend's birthday, the staff came out with a sombrero for her to wear and a tequila popper. They sang and she drank her shot with an enormous hat on her head. Gotta love that. The staff was great about getting the drinks and food out quickly. However, when it was time for our check they were no where to be found. Kind of odd considering that we were one of only two tables in the entire restaurant. Anyhow, after waiting about 15 minutes we finally went up to the counter and flagged someone down to pay our bill. A bit annoying. Anyhow, I'll probably be back to Hola again for lunch sometime. It was a bit pricey for lunch with most plates in the $10-15 range and drinks at $10 a pop. The dinner prices are substantially higher which will most likely rule dinner at Hola out for me. It seems a bit strange for a tiny restaurant in a strip mall of the east side of Bend to be charging these kinds of prices. Hola is good, but I don't know if it's THAT good. read more

I revisited Hola! on Friday night, with my, now, wife. Thank you very much! We both decided to get something off the Peruvian Menu this time since the last time was a bust. After perusing it for what looked enticing, I was locked in on the Seco con Pollo, the Peruvian stew I had vowed to try based on the memory of all those elated faces from our last visit. O...M...G! The first hit of that broth blew my socks off and cold-cocked me to next Tuesday! I haven't had a dish like this in quite some time... There are no words to describe just how good it is. They wouldn't do it justice. M'lady got the Aji de Gallina, I believe and it was good, too! Creamy sauce over shredded chicken and rice. Excellent! The best mashed potatoes to adorn it that I've ever, ever tasted as well. This is the food you should be eating, mi amigo. read more

Their selection is huge and the owner will gladly spend some time with you describing the subtle differences. I have tried their Peruvian bacon wrapped shrimp and it was perfect. First Time in Bend in 30yrs! Spent an extended weekend around Bend, Saturday evening we walking uptown for a late dinner (around 9pm). We religiously eat every week at Our Local Mexican restaurants in town and swap back & forth between authentic and americanized. Hola! didn't seem too appealing from the outside. We walked in to 'check out' the vibe and how large the restaurant is.... took a seat outside and were given menus right way. Server was telling us it may be to late for dinner and wasn't sure we could order off the full menu. I was starving and wasn't "feeling it" here... Then the chef came out and personally took our order. Brought our drinks and served us. Rojas and Taco Salad was Our pick! Ordered chips and Salsa. To this Day, I have NEVER had a BETTER GREEN SAUCE!!!! And the roja plate was THE BOMB!!!! We would make the trip to Bend, just to enjoy the sauces and a few shots of Patron again! Oh my god. This place is fantastic. We went in, planning on taking ours to go. From the get-go, the owner was incredibly friendly. His demeanor was kind and he was attentive to our needs. (At first he gave us a single menu to look at and when I looked over to see if they had another one he was instantly there, handing me another one.) Once we had ordered he invited us to sit at the bar, and offered us chips and salsa. The red salsa was good, pretty basic. They also brought a green sauce which I assume was some kind of cilantro salsa. (Refreshing, not spicy.) He sat and talked to us for a while, and another owner that was there came and joined us. He told us about an orange, red onion and habanero salsa they make sometimes. I asked if we could try it and he instantly had a cook making a batch from scratch. So, long story short, the customer service was INCREDIBLE. If you really, really like spicy food ask if they'll make you the habanero salsa. It's delicious, and if anything, it's just a fun way to make your dining partner cry at the table. The shredded beef tamale was amazing. The pork tacos were a little dry, but I added some of the red and green salsa and it made a difference. Husband had some of the peruvian food and he really liked it. He ordered the vegetable cebiche and another dish that had lime-infused potatoes and a creamy chicken (don't remember the name). We all loved our food, and it was such a tasty and unique dining experience trying the peruvian food. I will definitely go back sometime to try their HUGE collection of tequilas. read more

We stopped in on a very busy Saturday night, with two kids in tow. The staff were friendly, and the service was great. Chips and salsas were fabulous. Guac was made tableside and was good...classic in my book, nothing too special, but good for sure. My kids loved it, and liked watching it being made. Vanilla mango mojito was amazing. Oh my goodness, SO GOOD! Wow, I can only imagine their other drinks. It arrived in a 16 oz glass, pretty standard. But the waiter also set down a tumbler with more to refill! Please have a DD if you order one of these and drink the whole thing. I was totally tipsy toward the end. With a $9.50 price tag, I thought that was high when I ordered it, but vey reasonable when I saw it was really like two large drinks. Delicious. Dinner was very good too. I was a little full from massive amounts of chips, and they prssnt a vey latge portion of meat...too much for me, but very tasty still! I had pulled chicken that was in this saffron cream like sauce with cold mashed potatoes alongside that were scented with lime and cilantro or something. But no veggies in sight. I will be eating salad tomorrow with my leftovers! Good prices for kids' meals. My son eats a lot and is fairly adventurous, so I just asked for some tacos on the side. They were fantastic, and the shredded beef was so tasty. Lots of salt, though! My daughter had a bean and cheese burrito, nothing special, but it made her happy. read more

All I have to say about this place its it's just OK. Lots of pre-made, out of a can, frozen stuff. Some of the food was 4/5 where most of it was just about a 2/5. Slow service as well. I am down for a hearing in the morning and wanted something a bit unique for dinner before heading back to work. i did good here. This place has a combination of Mexican and Peruvian food. I ordered the Pisco Sour; it was a great choice. It is listed as a traditional Peruvian drink; they should be proud of it. Um yeah, not a single thing wrong with Hola. The wife and I were in Bend back in September and I'm a huge fan of Mexican food, the wife is quite a bit more selective about the mexican food she likes. She really enjoys when I make tacos and burritos and standard fare like that at home, and she loves Chipotle, but hasn't really been impressed with any of the Mexican joints we've eaten at around Portland. The Mexican/Peruvian combo at Hola is fantastic. Honestly I think it's the best Mexican food I've ever had. I really wish I'd written this review earlier, and I meant to write it a few months ago but just spaced it out, now I'm drawing a blank on exactly what we ordered. I want to say that she had a Lomo Saltado, because she couldn't believe how well seasoned the beef was, and the rice was super tasty, and we're picky with our rice because she's Brazilian, believe me, we make some damn good rice up in our casa.. OMG! Couldn't be better! Amazing! I wish we had one where I live! Everything is awesome! They have very unique dishes with fresh ingredients and flavor. Cocktails are wonderful. I was visiting my family here and this is a favorite place of theirs. Their chips and salsa are a combination of thick potato chips and tortilla chips. Because I can't eat corn they brought me a basket of potato chips only and they are excellent. The dish I had was ahi with avocado and a unique mashed potato dish and it was served elegantly. After a long road trip, a nice dinner seemed like just what I needed to relax and recharge before returning to work. There are few restaurants without drive thru's on the East side of Bend. Hola! is a new arrival to "my" side of town, and is housed in the former location of Pasta! Mangia! in the Forum Shopping Center. The decor is bright and colorful. The kitchen is open and visible from every table - we were seated in a cozy corner booth. There are few standard Mexican restaurant offerings on the menu - it's more like the menu if you actually went to a restaurant IN Mexico. Since their menu isn't online yet I can't tell you exactly what I ordered to drink... but it was very good. So good that, yes, I had two. It was a rum drink with hibiscus and ginger - very refreshing and tasty. Scott, of course, had beer. All the usual brews are available - domestic and Mexican. (But no "Victoria". Does *anyone* in Oregon carry "Victoria"? If so I haven't been able to find them. Sigh...) Along with the usual chips and salsa, fresh rolls were served. We also received a cilantro paste and almond butter. Flavors were great, the chips were crisp and slightly salty. When we arrived the patrons next to us were finishing their dinner and discussing dessert options as we settled in. When their dessert was served, I stopped snacking. I wanted to save room for THAT dessert. Soon the entrees arrived - chicken mole for Scott and pork tenderloin for me. Rice and beans were above average - tough to mess those up. My tenderloin was tasty and plentiful. I would have it again - after I try some of the other menu items. Scott's mole was authentic - and he hated it. He likes the "enchilada sauce blended with peanut butter and Hershey's syrup" variety of mole... and this was NOT like that. Once I dug up a recipe for authentic mole (we both loooove mole) and what I made was very similar to what he received. So while I was pleased (both with my concoction and what he received) it's not for everyone. Dessert, anyone? We answered with a resounding YES, and soon a portable kitchen appeared tableside. As we watched, the waiter melted butter, then added brown sugar, cinnamon, and bananas. After lightly cooking the bananas until they were coated in a glaze he added several liquers. Then... flambe! Patrons at nearby tables gasped and gawked, as we had when our neighbors were served their dessert. A few shakes of cinnamon over the flames for a sparkler effect, then everything was served over vanilla ice cream. We dove in and fought over every last nibble of banana and brown sugary goodness. If we hadn't been in a restaurant (or had another drink and, therefore, fewer inhibitions) I probably would have licked the bowl. read more

Stumbled in as the place I was going was empty and it felt weird going in. Tuesdays seem to be dead in Bend in the winter when it's snowing and freezing! Food at Hola is Peruvian---similar to Mexican but really different. Started with one of their signature margaritas. A bit pricey, but worth it. Maybe the best I've ever had. Was nice they left the shaker so it was a good pour. Chips and salsa (red & green) were really good. Everyone raves about the green. It's cilantro-based. I hate cilantro! I'm one of those who almost gets nauseous at the smell. Well, this changed my view, so much so I ordered their chicken stew (slices of chicken, yams, and onions) which came in this sauce with a big side of delicious white rice (moist & flavorful.) Portion size was huge. Could have made two meals out it, but it was so delicious, I ate the whole thing. Had one of their special on tap beers. It was 5-star, too. Sat at the bar. This will be a short one. I was expecting a total disaster when we came here for lunch, and it ended up being pretty good. We had a table of 5 and everyone enjoyed their meal. The menu is a mix of authentic and Americanized. One of the most overused phrases on Atlanta Yelp is "upscale Mexican", which is what some would call this place too. Just because a menu isn't overloaded with Americanized goopy cheese filled crap topped with tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole and called 10 different things doesn't make it 'upscale'. It merely makes it 'authentic'. The chips and salsa were good. Crisp chips, and a tomato based salsa that had a nice smoke taste, and a cilantro based salsa that was killer and couldn't get enough of. I ordered the Lomo Saltado which had great flavor. My only complaint is that the sirloin was a tad overcooked and it could have used more potatoes. Overall, a great spot for lunch or dinner for a simple meal read more

I'm so glad I did, but sad that I don't live in Bend so I could come back every week or so! We had the Seco de Pollo and the Tiraditos Ahi Tuna. Hola! is easily the best Peruvian(Mexican) food in Bend. To start, the drink menu is phenomenal, offering an assortment of traditional Peruvian concoctions (not to wild about egg whites in my drinks, but wife likes it), to local brews and imported cerveza. The margaritas and mojitos come in myriad flavors and variations. The wait staff was very good, very attentive. I was delighted that English was not my waiters first language, though I was nervous ordering without the correct pronunciation ;) So yes, great service! Menu is thorough and i always have to make a hard decision between 4-5 really interesting things. The food was phenomenal. It was fresh tasting, artfully presented on the plate, and deeeelish. While visiting Oregon, I searched on yelp and found this GEM!! It is small and the menu is broken into Mexican and Peruvian cuisine. The server we had was extremely friendly, very knowledgeable of the menu, and just all around gave us great service. We started out with chips, salsa, and a dip that was green. Not sure what it was but it was very good. Then, we ordered the Cebiche Traditional which featured raw tuna. OMG this dish stimulated ALL of my tastebuds. The tuna was so juicy and fresh with red onions, lime and lemon juice, and Peruvian mashed potatoes! For my entrée I had the Causa Limena which is a Peruvian Tataki spicy tuna with key lime infused mashed potatoes and pressed into a cake. The mashed potatoes were delicious to my eyes and mouth. I've been here a couple times for lunch this month. Great place to come. Lunch menu is smaller but still has a lot to offer and some decent deals for $7-$9. The service is great, but not fast! They are always very responsive, Super friendly, and professional. We were seated quickly and once we ordered or meals were delivered right away, even though they were Very busy for lunch. I've not had a bad meal here. The Roho enchiladas are very good, the 2 tacos lunch also good, the chimichanga good, the salads very fresh! Not cheap eats but really good food and great staff read more
