I love Mexican food, and we eat out for Mexican a lot. We've traveled to Mexico several times too, so I'd like to think I know Mexican. I like food with a kick, and lots of flavor. That being said, I know nothing about Peru... Overall, I liked this place, but I'm not dying to go back, so I can't give it a higher review than 3 stars. The margarita I had was good - not the best I've had, but solid. I'd go back here for drinks with friends perhaps. It was not super strong, but abundant (they gave me the extra in a chilled container on the side), so all in all, it gives you a nice buzz with good flavor and it lasts through the whole meal. The meal I had was tasty, but the beans were just refried and runny. I didn't care for the white rice blend either. I prefer light, fluffy Mexican rice, and this is not that. It's sort of a heavy/thick kernel white rice. It also seems odd to have corn in my rice. The green salsa is delicious (very authentic), although it was not spicy at all. There was something odd about the flavor in the red salsa. I would skip the red in the future, and just go with the delicious chips and green salsa. Perhaps if you ask, they can make it hotter too. We were here for lunch, and did not try the Peruvian portion of the menu, so I can't review that. The service was friendly and prompt. No complaints there, although it was pretty quiet when we were there, so not sure if it would be this quick on a busy night. read more

This is a really excellent restaurant. It's listed in Yelp as Mexican but the menu mentions Peru... not mexico..... They have a couple of locations. My wife and I have been to the downtown establishment twice now and will be back whenever we visit Bend. You will definitely want to check out the Ahi appetizer. Today I went looking for Old Navy and was so hungry that my daughter and I had to stop for a quick bite. Holy moly did we pick the right spot!! Not only was the food amazing and flavorful, but we were in and out of there in record time!! Great service, super quick and my daughter gave it a 10 out of 10 for taste! Super nice for young or mature people. They have a place as a bar and an area for meals. Both peruvian and mexican food are really and always tasty, coming in the perfect amount for small-medium eaters. My favorite dish is Aji de Gallina (peruvian) and their hibiscus tea (cold). Walked n right when they opened and a server said to sit anywhere we would like. Hubby went to the restroom and I sat down. Table had a long hair on it so I switched tables. Second table was dirty so I got up again and moved. Third table was dirty so I mentioned it to said server which he rudely replied, " I just mopped and I haven't gotten to the tables yet". Most do not know the gruesome nonstop work that running a restaurant requires. Some smart mouths will likely say well they signed up for it, except it's not that simple unless you have done it and when you have, empathy will preced uninformed judgement. I have been here five times and the service has been correct each and every time. The food is great and consistent. Our first night of our road trip out of California. Salsas-yummy Margaritas-the red cactus margarita was very tasty and you get a lot for your money. Great chips and salsa. The chile relleno and portobello quesadilla were the meals' highlights I liked my Halibut Tacos (loved the fact that they had that as a choice on the menu). But would recommend a sauce of some kind for the tacos..cilantro pesto or at least guacamole instead of the sliced avocado. Fresh, a bit taste-free. Hey everyone trying to eat at The Hola! Sunriver location they are CLOSED for the winter season. Not sure where the mishap accrued but they set up a forwarding phone number to their restaurant and I've now been receiving about 40+ phone calls a day to my personal cell phone with people trying to make reservations.. The number you read on the Google link isn't my cell phone number but it connects to my phone when the links are used. Please let it be known that they are CLOSED, again for the winter season. I've spoken with a manager at a different Hola! Location in Bend who was very helpful and is trying to work on this problem but it still isn't fixed and my phone is blowing up all day.. Worst so-called Mexican restaurant I've ever been to...and I've been to a lot! Where do I start? Everything they make comes out of a can or previously frozen. Robert Irvin would have a fit with this place! Chicken in the enchiladas and tacos was plain & rubbery white with zero seasoning. Enchiladas were dry and canned refried beans and canned white rice with corn tasted like nothing. Hibiscus Margarita tasted like watered down juice. Drank only a few sips. Waiter asked if I wanted salt on my glass, said no and got a rim of salt. Asked for guacamole & sour cream...never got it. We ate less than half. Ugh!!! Do not eat or drink here. I have had many different entrees at this location and each time I have been satisfied. The people and the atmosphere are good. The drinks, especially the Mexican margaritas, are wonderful. Introduced by friends last weekend. Nothing like this in New Hampshire. Went right to Peruvian selections washed down with copious amount of a perfect margarita. Starter of ceviche tuna only hinted of the delights to come...more tuna with Peruvian potatoes (ok, New Englanders can be addicted to wicked tuna!). Then top off with an often forgotten classic dessert...bananas foster ... A show stopper flaming offering of bananas with caramelized goodness, cinnamon, followed with a shot glass appertif of almond flavored tequila on the side. Service was the best I've had in Bend (past life lived here 15 years). One of the best places east or west coasts for a meal I have had in 2013....put this one on your stomach bucket list, make sure it's this one on the East side of Bend. read more

This place never fails us!!! We live nearby and frequent this place. The staff is always prompt, friendly, and polite. Hibiscus tea is wonderfully refreshing every time!!! They have the traditional chips and salsa (free) while you wait for your order to be cooked. Sometimes, they throw some surprise (special recipe) homemade potato chips in with the basket of corn chips, yum!!! Ok, been back twice now and I'm sad to say, no bueno. The quality of food is just not up to par consistently. We've tried many different dishes in hopes of finding one that is well executed, but it feels as though they hide behind heavy cream, lard and butter. I want to like it! I friggin love Peruvian food, but it lacks authenticity and identity of either the Peruvian or Mexican food culture. I want to give a huge heartfelt thank you to Carlos and the amazing staff at Hola Bend Restaurant! My dear friend Jennifer Kem 's husband Brandon was in a horrible motorcycle accident on Sunday. Brandon, his friends and family are all from the Portland area, however Brandon is in the ICU at St. Charles Medical with severe head trauma and other injuries. 14 of Brandon's family members are basically living at the hospital waiting on his recovery, which could be months! I reached out to several restaurants in the area and asked if any of them could donate hot meals to these 14 family members. 14 people to feed is quite a task and can be very financially difficult, especially when you are missing work, staying In Hotels ect....Hola's owner Carlos reached out to me immediately and without even knowing us, said "whatever this family needs we will do" Hola's restaurant is donating lunch or dinner for 14 people for 7 days!! I cried when he told me....how amazing this man was to show my friends such amazing hospitality and kindness! Such an act of kindness meant so much to not only the 14 people staying by Brandon's side, but to friends and family here in Portland who feel helpless being so far away! Carlos and staff stepped up where we could not. Carlos personally came to the hospital and gave the family gift certificates! This man and this restaurant have blessed us and are a blessing to your community! Thank you Hola's from all of the Kem's friends and family who could not bring them a warm meal! We are forever grateful and we will be spreading the word about your amazing restaurant and staff! read more

Service was mediocre, glasses sat empty for a bit and took forever to get our bill but I was probably cranky because our food was so bad. I ordered the tequila steak tacos, which tasted more like eating a burger, due to the GRILLED onions (wtf?) and completely unseasoned steak. BF ordered a chile relleno, which came drenched in sauce (it was like a tiny boat in a sea of soup) and it was completely flavorless too. Overall we were so unimpressed we ended up leaving most of it behind and going somewhere else for lunch. Big disappointment. read more
