Our first indoor dining since COVID shutdown and was appalled at their carelessness. People took off masks as soon as seated, we seated close together, with a chair being added and way too close. One waiter had a single layer buff that fell down and he left it down until he returned to counter. Waiter took our order, didn't speak, never came back to see if order ok or if wanted anything else. Disappointed! This has been our favorite Eastside Bend restaurant for many years, and we always have looked forward to lunch there. The service was good and the staff friendly. The outside seating was "OK". We ordered our "regular" Tequila Tacos and Halibut Tacos. The tortillas were soggy and couldn't be picked up...had to eat them with a fork. The skirt steak in the Tequila Tacos was very a very skimpy portion. The halibut was fine. I don't remember the price from a couple of years ago, and know that prices have gone up, but $17 and $19 for the two tacos dishes ( two tacos each) was too high for lunch IMHO. Sadly, we won't be returning and will stick with the various food truck courts around town... a much better bang for the lunch buck!! read more

Do you like bland unseasoned food and uncomfortable seating? Then this is the place for you. We were sat in a makeshift "booth" which was four chairs at a table smashed between two actual booths. Then the food came and two of the chicken dishes we ordered, including the mole enchiladas, were literally filled with boiled, shredded unseasoned chicken. Our lunch at Hola! today marked nearly three dozen times that we've enjoyed either lunch or dinner at Hola! over the last three years. Most of them at this location and just a couple of times at the newer, Old Mill location. The review reflects our experience at both places for the sum of food, service and ambiance. The sum is we are big fans of Hola! Welcoming ambiance, delicious food at fair prices, excellent bar drinks and friendly service. UPDATED AMBIANCE What a great find to walk into this location today, where we had not been for a couple of months, to see they have redecorated and rearranged seating. Booth seating has been added and placed perpendicular to the windows to allow a good sense of openness. Booths have replaced some of the previously tightly spaced tables and chairs. This creates much more open floor space to invite one in to be seated and once seated to feel "connected" to everything in and out. It's astounding how many restaurants create a virtual barrier to entry at the front of the path into the space by jamming too much seating in without thinking of the "we dare you to enter here" message it sends. This is a nice change at Hola! Good for them for bucking the "sardine can seating" trend in Bend and arranging their seating in a way that says "come on in". The walls have also been re-painted with bight colors and Latin designs motif...a great way to tie in the ambiance and the menu for a complete package theme. We loved the new look. MENU - FOOD They've also updated the menu, both lunch and dinner, to add some new Peruvian specialties while keeping some of the old favorite Peruvian dishes as well as most of the Mexican dishes. One of many good things here is the chips and two salsas that start every meal. The roasted tomato salsa is very good, but the green cilantro salsa is absolutely addictive. Our lunches today consisted of two delicious Peruvian entrees. Pollo seco, redolent with a sauce of cilantro, garlic and Aji chile spice served with tender bites of chicken breast, potatoes, sweet potato and a side of perfectly cooked rice. Also pork braised in cola with chiles, served with a soffrito including carrots and onion and some tender cubes of yam as well as a timbale sized portion of the perfect rice to soak up the luscious sauce. We shared the quatro leche cake (yes four milks not three as in the typical tres leche cake) which was more than enough for two. COCKTAILS We've tried several of the specialty Margaritas over our many visits and they're all great. We particularly like that had they add a bit of ground chile pepper to the salt on the rim! Not to mention Hola! has one of the few local bars that know how to make a Pisco Sour. They also are one of the few to have Cachaca, the sugarcane derived spirit that is native to Brazil and the key ingredient for a killer good cocktail called Caipirinha. We used to have to travel to a Peruvian restaurant in Portland to get one of those, now Hola! saves us the trip. VALUE Entrees were $12 each. Adding in the dessert and a split Margarita along with the chips and salsa,, the total was $40 before tip. A very fair price for such great food! SERVICE Service is always wonderful...from the hospitality at the door through the beverage and food service. One of Hola's trademarks from the first visit has been service that feeds the spirit while their food feels the tummy.. ACCESSIBILITY Level in. Seating all on one level. I can speak to the good accessibility here from personal experience because after an accident, I used a wheelchair for better than a year as my means to get into Hola! Unlike other Bend restaurants at that time, Hola! made me feel equally as welcome a diner when I came in on four wheels as they did when I came in on two feet. Equal access for all is a great thing here! BOTTOM LINE Were this in Portland and competing with the remarkable Peruvian restaurant Andina or the equally as remarkable Mexican restaurant in that city, Nuestra Cocina, Hola might not get quite the five star rating it deserves in Bend. But this is Bend and important to consider ratings for the location too. From consistent food quality and great service and hospitality, Hola sets the bar for all Bend restaurants. I absolutely love the customer service!! The guys working here are always so sweet and really care about their customers!! I'm pretty picky about my Mexican food and I definitely pick Hola! as my go to spot in Bend. There's a few reasons that make them a top choice. First, their staff is awesome, super fun and engaging, especially while sitting at the bar. Second, their Mole is delicious and that's something I am very picky about. Lastly, you get basically 2 for 1 margaritas at the bar because they give you the shaker in addition to your drink so you can refill. Okay, so the salsa - OMG the SALSA (the GREEN salsa is drinkable and the red is delicious too)! Excellent chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and the pork nachos were great. Our service was so bad just now that I can actually remember the last time I received service that was this bad.... It was 2012 at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Columbus, Ohio... Thank god another server was there to bring us our drinks that came out after our meal and make our guac that also came after our meal... she never refilled my water and she constantly kept her head down so we literally couldn't wave her down. And when we asked her for boxes to take our food home, she said "someone will bring them over" and of course, no one did. So we left. We visited this restaurant without checking out the reviews. For once, it wasn't a mistake. I totally disagree with the positive reviews. When we entered the restaurant, we were very much looking forward to trying the food. The place is really cute and there was only one table available. It was bustling. Our servers were extremely nice and efficient. It is apparent that they have quite a few regular customers. We tried the chips, red salsa and green salsa. Yuck! The green salsa wasn't awful, but the red salsa and chips were not good at all. I ordered the combo plate with one cheese enchilada, rice and beans. W. ordered a combo plate with a chicken taco, an enchilada, rice and beans. Our food was delivered very quickly. Too bad that we hated everything. The enchilada sauce tasted like straight canned tomato sauce and the enchiladas were not cooked enough. The cheese was still hard.. The rice was cooked with corn and peas and tasted weird. The beans were so watery and tasted terrible. I have never had Mexican food this bad. Even the Mexican TV dinners are better than this. This is the first time I have been totally surprised after reading the Yelp reviews. The Peruvian food may be much better, but the Mexican dishes are inedible to me. I only ate a few bites. We were treated so poorly at Hola yesterday. I went for happy hour with two coworkers and were seated right away with no wait. It was pretty obvious from the start the server wanted to rush us with ordering but I didn't think much of it. We ordered a drink and told him a couple of us wanted to order food to go in a little bit. He came back multiple times all within 5 minutes of each other so my coworkers said fine they would just order their food then even though we weren't even close to ready to leave yet. We ordered a second drink then too. The food came out less than 10 minutes later, and we were brought our check then too even though we didn't indicate we were done. He came back within 2 minutes wanting payment for the check so we just paid it because we were trying to have conversation with each other and it was constant interruption by the server. Right after we paid, and had not even had time to finish the drink we ordered, another person came to our table and said, "We have people waiting and we need you to leave right now". It was so appalling and I have never in my life had that happen to me in an unbelievably rude way. It felt embarrassing like we had done something wrong and were being kicked out of a restaurant where we were paying customers and by no means were staying longer than the necessary time to consume what we had ordered. We found this place just wandering Minnesota, stopped in (they were really busy) and were greeted very quickly. Service was very friendly. Chips and salsa delivered right away, the tomatillo salsa was delicious! Food was pretty good and drinks were awesome! I recommend their version of the Michelada it was tangy and refreshing! I had the ceviche Mexicano which was filling, a little too acidic but still good. Odd that it didn't come with anything but a spoon, (usually get a fresh fried tortilla or something) so I used the rest of the chip basket to scoop and eat. My partner has the mole enchiladas which were presented well with large portion, taste was way too sweet so instead enjoyed the rice and beans. This is by far the best Mexican food in Central Oregon. Their Carne Asada is the best I've had north of the border. Margaritas are served in a shaker for each order and plentiful enough to fill your glass about 2 1/2 times. They are simply delicious. They offered potato chips along with corn chips. There was a red and green salsa presented. The green salsa was killer! We chose the chile rellenos for our meal. First Time in Bend in 30yrs! Spent an extended weekend around Bend, Saturday evening we walking uptown for a late dinner (around 9pm). We religiously eat every week at Our Local Mexican restaurants in town and swap back & forth between authentic and americanized. Hola! didn't seem too appealing from the outside. We walked in to 'check out' the vibe and how large the restaurant is.... took a seat outside and were given menus right way. Server was telling us it may be to late for dinner and wasn't sure we could order off the full menu. I was starving and wasn't "feeling it" here... Then the chef came out and personally took our order. Brought our drinks and served us. Rojas and Taco Salad was Our pick! Ordered chips and Salsa. To this Day, I have NEVER had a BETTER GREEN SAUCE!!!! And the roja plate was THE BOMB!!!! We would make the trip to Bend, just to enjoy the sauces and a few shots of Patron again!
