Oh Hojas, how it's been a while since I have seen you. I never had anything that had "wow'd" me to really come back. I came by on a Tuesday around 3:30pm with a friend. There were parking spots readily open in the small plaza, but I can see how this parking lot can fill up incredibly fast. The ambiance is cute, creating a modern aesthetic coffee shop. They do have restrooms, and they also have citrus water for pour and grab near the entrance. I ended up ordering a standard iced hazelnut latte. And boy was it sweet. I honestly tasted 0 hazelnut. & that's that I had swirled and mixed the coffee soooooo much to ensure it was mixed right. It tasted like simple syrup, milk and espresso, and for $8, I was disappointed. Unfortunately, the hard truth is after the first 4 sips I told my friend how I did not like the coffee. I order hazelnut lattes readily often to know what a good one tastes like, it's sad to see hojas fall short. Customer service was subpar, the lady at the register felt unwelcoming, and it almost felt like a dirty look, could've been in my head, but I was taken back for sure. I was like dang girl what I do?? Needless to say, I use to keep this place bookmarked a few years ago, but I'm taking it off for now. Prices keep going up and they charge for different milk options. Try going here ordering a drink, asking for half sweet option and they agree, but instead they have a new girl make it and when you taste it, ITS ALL SUGAR!!! Everyone is usually so nice and patient even during rush hour . Today , this Hispanic lady not sure if she only spoke Spanish ( she had an updo kinda like a double ponytail) . She recognized these two ladies in front of me . While i looked at the menu , for a few minutes hoping to trying something new . She didn't stop talking to these ladies at all . I didn't even get to interact with the other hsipanic lady nor did I rush her into finishing her personal conversation. While packing orders , I noticed she prioritized her friends order and gave her a free coconut cake . I am bilingual myself , so I have no problem ordering in whatever language makes the cashier more comfortable. My issue was even if she was the owner she never acknowledged me nor told her friends allow me a moment . I could've walked out but I would rather support a family business versus Starbucks . I've been coming to Hoja's for years! My go to drinks are the Lemongrass Bouquet (hot or iced), House Chai (best chai I've ever had in my life) and Coconut Cold Brew... I believe the owner went to culinary school so I'm not surprised that the food items are tasty as well. I like the Stinky Bagel and the Tuna Sandwich but they have tons of other items and pastries on the menu. This location is probs the best one for parking, but I have been to the San Pedro and have gone to the fried chicken place next to the one in Long Beach. Service can take a bit for beverages if you go during rush hour, but I do recall they use Toast so you can order ahead Online and pick up at the counter. There's ample seating inside, but sometimes the heat is turned up a little too high for my taste in the winter so I'll sit on the patio where there are several tables. They also cater events. I went to a women's tea at Lifted Fellowship church down the street years ago and they served their teas there. My friend got the Ruby Rose which is on the more citrusy and brighter side, I'd suggest that if you prefer teas similar to hibiscus. Hojas is such a safe space when it comes to Wilmero's. This tea house is THE spot. I've been a customer since 2014, and I haven't had a bad experience. The workers are always nice. I always see the same man in the back of house, prepping or cooking, and he always has a smile! I come to get my refreshing green, and I will say once in a blue moon it won't be consistent...but it's almost rare. You can't go wrong with any drink though! Or any food item for that matter. Zero stars! Just went to this store and I can say I will never come back. They took over 15 min for an iced pumpkin latte, pumpkin cupcake and a pumpkin scone that are already pre made! This time I was hungry and ordered a sandwich and a cheesecake with my tea. It took half hour to get my sandwich then it was burned. I took a bite. Hoping that it wouldn't taste burnt but it was burned so I send it back and asked him if they could make another one. It took them 10 minutes to make that one. The service is poor, the young man is not clear or ask you if it's to go or dine in. I am about saving mother earth. I received my food it was packed into containers. This is wasteful not only for the earth but the consumer gets hit with raised prices due to negligence of employees and owners being wasteful. Do better hojas.
