An excellent record store and easily my favorite in the city. A great selection of records. I've even found some records there that are hard to find. I've only gone in there twice so far and I've come out with 9 records in both trips because I loved their selection so much. The customer service is nothing special but they're helpful and friendly to me at least, probably because I'm a 14 year old. The atmosphere is great and they have fairly priced albums there. Interesting experience at the record store. When we entered the store they asked us to leave a purse at the door. Cool no problem I get it. Not much of an explanation but if that's how it works we'll follow the rules. We looked around for a bit and noticed a lot of other people had bags bigger than ours (not employees). We thought huh weird so we continued to watch where the bag had been left. Little to no real security really at all watching our bag with our stuff while multiple people entered and left with bags. So why were we the odd ones out? The lack of any explanation is insane and just makes it seem like we were profiled over nothing. The products they carry are cool so we would've loved to purchase something but I can't confidently leave a bag with our IDs and Money at the door with no one clearly watching or at least being locked away especially when others are walking in and out with bags while ours sit there unattended. The only reason I have given it 2 stars is because they do have a lot of stuff available but I can't in good faith come here again with how they treated us. read more

Great small record store with vinyl, tshirts, and CDs. I had that great old record store experience here (kinda like in the 90s) when you go into the store with a few things in mind and then you actually find one of them, used, for a good price! Okay, the record I found wasn't all that much of a gem, nor that hard to find, but still -- I found it, and a clean copy, and I was thinking of it when I drove up. Thanks Hogwild! read more

Absolutely love it here. I don't get into San Antonio very often because I'm in the military and often too tired to drive 20 minutes into town when I have free time. But I sometimes go here to remember what it was like to be a young metalhead, like I was. Went here and found exactly what I was looking for, the new Judas Priest record. Nice people. Talked to the young guy behind the counter about upcoming shows for a while. I doubt that my politics matches their politics (but who knows) though this is the kind of space we need in our country, a space where an older military guy like me can talk to a younger guy wearing all black with piercings about metal and punk music. Good selection of new and used vinyls. I love that they don't skimp out on 7" vinyls either. The selection of new vinyl genres is also relatively broad, and not narrowly tailored to just hip-hop/pop/rap. They have some middle/lesser known artists and it seems like a good selection of rock/punk too. I'm normally not a big soundtrack person either, but their selection was great with older films included. Some vinyls i've gotten here: Mom Jeans, Beach Bunny, Death Grips, and The Ink Spots to name a few. Service has always been good, and if you are looking for something specific they are willing to help. I have not been here for a Record Store Day yet, but I know they do participate. read more

Hogwild has always been my go to for clerks that know what's going on, or at least aren't shy about looking it up. They carry several of my CDs and most recently, my cassettes. Thanks, Hogwild. Also, I've been asked a few times, who at hogwild to talk to about making cassettes for their band. Just to clarify, hogwild sells my CDs and cassettes. However, they don't actually make them. I have been coming to Hogwild for yearrrrrrrs! This place is THE PLACE to come get all of your music needs. I used to come in here for metal, punk, and even local music when I was in high school many moons ago. I would also end up getting 10+ stickers or decals for my car to show off how great my music taste was back when I was a young punk rocker. Now as I am in my 40's this place continues to be the spot to come to for my vinyl needs, even cassettes, stickers, and now some really hard-to-find metal t-shirts. Staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and just down right cooler than all of your other friends. Don't be shy and ask them about that Death vinyl LP you have been looking all around town for because they will walk right up to the bins and grab it out for you. I have found so many rare and hard-to-find records here that it is impossible for me to control myself as I always want to end up getting over $150+ worth of LPs. Be sure to check out the free unofficial but offical advertisement area at the front of the store. I usually grab some zines, stickers, and flyers that can be found in this area and slide it in the bag with the vinyl I just bought. It is worth checking out as you can always find some offbeat items or news here. Parking is either on the side of the shop or off the side street so be mindful of where you park as the neighborhood around has changed a bit since I have been in high school. Be mindful of street signage and parking info. I am a die hard Hogwild lady here even though my bank account always begs for some mercy prior to walking in to the store. read more

I'm hog wild about Hogwild Records! This is the coolest record store in San Antonio. This place is old school. They still sell vinyl, and have lots of it. It's the best place in town to get cool t-shirts and patches they don't have anywhere else in town. Their carefully curated selection of CDs, tapes, records and other merch is best in town. The staff is always punk rock. Don't let them catch you trying to read all the magazines without buying them. It's not a library. The coolest part of this shop is the area at the front where they put out the local band flyers and self-published magazines and ads. Need to join a reggae band? This is a great place to start looking. Want a bass player? You'll find 'em here. They have lots of local bands in here, as well as the t-shirts for local bands. You'll be the best dressed kid in school with this place. Parking can be challenging, since it's across the street from San Antonio College. But if you look off of Main Street, there's usually spots available. read more

So looking into this place it has pretty mixed reviews so I'm going to try and give this neat little shop some justice. My opinion. This place is a spectacle to behold so many vintage records and cds at pretty good price. ( 25 - 40 dollars) They have vintage and reprints. I called them and they were helpful, and to the point. I asked about 3 records Metallica-master of puppets Metallica-and justice for all Metallica-black And within seconds they told me if they had it stock and the following price. I feel this place has changed from the previous reviews I think this place is pretty neat and at least worth a pop in. read more

It's too bad that this is a really cool record store and one of the last to remain on the planet, because the staff and the management are so awful that there's no way I would ever step foot in there again. I've visited this shop a few times through 2021 and 2022. They do have an excellent selection of records and other merchandise. However, I went to visit for the first time this year and was blown away at the large sign in their front window that still requires customers to wear masks. I understand wanting to keep your customers safe, but I'm not going to keep a mask in my car for to visit one store in San Antonio. It's a bit ridiculous at this point, which is why I won't be returning until the sign is gone. As a suggestion, if the health of your customer is the concern, maybe require people to wear gloves. Since this is the kind of businesses that requires customers to touch product that other a hundred other customers have touched. Just a thought. read more

I been going here since I was 12 back in 1992. Back then I collected 7inch records and maybe picked up a new patch for my leather or something.. Something patchy,maybe like a bag pack or a side bag or a denim vest.Safety pins to keep them secure and safe. Get a few stickers for your skateboard or something to slap on your car.. They have a nice selection of shirts both classic horror and music mainly punk and death metal. You won't find and top 40 kind of garbage here. They used to sell documentaries like The Decline Of Western Civilization,Thrasher Videos and other media as well but they mainly sell vinyl here and I can't assure you they have the documentaries and videotapes anymore. Unique attraction to visit the last place on Earth to not just encourage but strictly require their customers to not step past their doorway without a mask in 2023... Great place to shop if you want to turn back time 3 years, see people bask their own dystopian pandemic reality, and be aggressively barked at if they're able to see your smile. When discovering this record shop, it looked very promising. However, my experience here was not exactly the best. As I first entered, I was looked at as if I were about to rob the place. It quickly became apparent to me that I needed to be wearing a mask. I completely understand and respect the owners decision to implement masks in their shop. A plus is that they do offer masks at the front of the door. My discontent is not with having to wear a mask but with how I was treated for not having one readily available on me. The shop has many records available that are decently priced, especially compared to other shops in San Antonio. I however will not be back, the costumer service lacks here and it is not a welcoming place. read more

Hogwild has a very solid selection of metal titles and had a decent selection of used rock, country, jazz and r&b albums. Their inventory is pretty big and other than the used rock stuff, was not picked over like other shops in SA. There were several near mint rock records I picked up, although their pricing is a bit high (and they refused to discount a $400+ stack). The three stars is really because they weren't very friendly or even courteous at check out. The manager guy (maybe the owner?) came out to check me out and got frustrated and a bit surly when his computer scanning system didn't work. Consequently, as the customer I felt very under appreciated. read more

Absolutely love these guys. Very safety conscious during COVID but still kept everyone informed and stocked through Instagram and curbside. I was there about a week ago bought a record and I think it was the owner that gave me some good info on scoring a kiss alive two album and I was able to do that so they were very nice there and they have a really good inventory would go back again. I've always found that it's hard to find records in San Antonio. Esepcially when you have something in mind. I've been going to Hogwild for a few years now and I really enjoy it. The employees are touch and go. It's kind of like walking into Empire Records (I hope someone catches that reference). Sometimes you get an employee that knows a lot about records and music and that may come off as being rude but I don't think they mean it. I've never been turned off by it. The prices are reasonable. They help you out if you haven't found what you're looking for and will do what they can to find it for you. read more

Incredibly obnoxious management. Hi. I have given a lot of thought to this review. Unfortunately, on October 14, 2019, I went to Hogwild to find and purchase any or all of four vinyl LPs. While on my search, there were three young twenty-somethings having a conversation adjacent to me about something one of them saw that was really incredible to them and I added a comment to the conversation. Before long, we were talking about music we absolutely love which was particularly interesting to me considering I have four decades on them (I am retired and 63). We talked about favorites, how music has evolved, differences in generations, etc. I told them about a cool music project I was working on. Eventually, another customer entered the conversation. After about 15-20 minutes, one of the managers came over and obnoxiously (as opposed to nicely) told us we were blocking the aisle and to move. I asked if it was OK to talk at the front of the store and he said, "Yes" but I could tell that what he really wanted was for us to leave the store. So after a few minutes talking with them up front, I finished looking for my records (they had none of them) and went up and told the two older men at the counter that I was sorry if I was a problem in any way. THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE DECENCY TO ANSWER ME and instead both gave me a dirty look. If we were mostly talking about music, where is one of the best places to talk about it? In a music store!!!! You would think that attracting customers who love music would be something a record shop would want to encourage. I was reasonably dressed and most certainly polite. Well, after being almost thrown out for absolutely no reason, after attempting to apologize (for nothing) and was given a dirty look, do you think I would ever have a reason to shop in their store again? I guess they are only interested in customers who know what they want and will quickly buy it. And of course, they didn't have anything I was looking for. I was actually in boot camp in San Antonio years ago, and in one of my letter my dad told me about this place. After my graduation, we got a family day, and I was absolutely itching to buy a pile of metal after 2 1/2 months of 0 music. This place was so awesome that I wished I'd been stationed in San Antonio, so I could be a regular. One of the raddest selections of metal music and t shirts that I've come across in person. They had stuff that I never thought brick and mortar would have over a web shop. The staff was really awesome. My Mom was nervous at first because the metal guys working there were intimidating lol, but one of them was helping her out and when we got in the car she was going on and on about how awesome they all were. Okay, so I struggled with how many stars to give on this review. They have a great selection. I haven't been in this store since the 80s. I was desperate to replace my Purple Rain album that disappeared yet again. Wth? Anyway, I was first struck by sticker shock. But honestly, they had a really great selection of both old and used and all kinds of genres. I recognized some really great punk bands that I had loong forgotten about, and rap too. Clerk is a Zombie and he listens the vinyl to say you're wrong and I came back home to listen the vinyl just to get piss off again because the vinyl skips many times.
