Walking into the CD Exchange almost feels like walking back into the nearer past where dvd stores reigned supreme and I absolutely love the nostalgia. Funky music is always playing overhead, the place is so packed with movies that movie stacks line the walls, and the guys running the shop are always super real and helpful if you need anything at all. Super cool place! I mainly came in for the dvd's but they had huge selections of everything if you're looking for music (CDS/records, cassette tapes) Literally movie every shelf that I saw was like western movies , superhero movies, horror movies , tv on dvd, blue rays, classic movies, Christmas movies. Probably more physical media if I took my time to look every aisle. Only at this location they have a sale going on for only the sale items, buy 10 it's only 10$. Which originally the sale items are 1.99$ so you're getting the movies only for a buck. Then I bought one blue ray for 8 dollars for in total for 11 movies it was 18. read more

Terrible customer service...came in to the store PRIOR to closing at 7p and was turned away. I came in 20 minute prior to closing and was told I couldn't be helped because they were about to close!!! Called 2 locations about if they bought used cd/dvd's. First location I called and was asked to hold. Which I was not put on hold but hung up on. Called back twice and no answer except for an answering machine asking to input my pin. Called another location and was asked to hold. Sat on hold for over 5mins. Finally hung up. This review is for people who want to SELL their DVDs or CDs... They are the only game in town, so I'm not sure where else you are going to unload your outdated DVDs and CDs - but unload them before the technology dies like VHS did! I tried to GIVE my DVD collection away to friends, but everyone has already moved to digital online versions. If you are selling, be prepared to wait. It took about 45 minutes for the staff to go through a few dozen of my DVDs. They check each one to make sure the CD is in the case and it is not scratched. They also run each one through their database to see how many they have in stock, and how many are selling. It's the same drill with CDs - be prepared to wait. Saturdays are their busiest days for buyers and sellers, so you might want to pick a different day of the week to sell your collection. Half Priced Books should be your second option for DVDs - they'll take the remnants of your outdated media collection. The tertiary option should be Goodwill, duh (don't throw these bad boys in the trash). In summary, take your outdated media here to sell it. I can guarantee you that they will find some oddballs (Ryan M.) to buy your stuff. It's also fun to hang out and watch the interesting characters who hang out and haunt (Ryan M.) the store looking for things to buy. Boring details are below: They only offered 50 cents for some of my DVDs - even though they were selling them for more than $10 - one example is my 3 pack of the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD. They explained that they have a surplus of those, so they only gave me 50 cents for the set. I had a "book" set of 40 Clint Eastwood movies that he had either starred in or directed - that went for $24 - but that's ok - this is one set that I tried to GIVE away to friends. The haul for my entire DVD collection was about $75 - much less than the money I had invested over the years. I took 96 CDs in a few months later and they only wanted 31 of them. I got $30 for the lot of them - the rest went to Goodwill. *Bottom line - they are fair - but get rid of your outdated media now, while people (Ryan M.) still want to buy it. Don't expect a lot of cash though. *Be prepared to come to the realization that your music and movie tastes may be considered eclectic (meaning, your tastes may suck) to others and no one else may want them. Calling my taste in music obscure and abstruse would be an understatement. Chris Lowe of Pet Shop Boys captured my sentiments perfectly with this sardonic spoken word interlude from "Paninaro," an infectious Euro/Italo Disco tune from 1986: "I don't like country-and-western. I don't like rock music. I don't like, I don't like rockabilly or rock 'n' roll particularly. Don't like much really, do I? But what I do like I love passionately." I usually leave brick-and-mortar music stores empty handed, but I always enjoy the hunt, the off chance I'll stumble upon a long-out-of-print Scott Walker album or an Italo Disco compilation featuring B-grade European TV stars speak-singing garbled English lyrics. This particular CD Exchange, located in The Colonnade at I10 and Wurzbach, has come through for me more than once, no small feat given my eccentric tastes. The staff deserve credit for utilizing every square inch of floor space; the store is stacked to the hilt with CDs, vinyl records, DVDs, and video games. The music sections are categorized by genre and alphabetized by artist, an obsessive-compulsive's dream come true. The same holds true for the DVD/Blu-ray section, which occupies at least half of the store. I only wish the staff would treat the video games with as much respect as the other media; on a recent visit, I was taken aback by a cluttered locked cabinet chock full of dusty, yellowed consoles (everything from SNES to Wii U) stacked atop one another with wild abandon. I've been known to spend hours pouring through the CD and vinyl selections, but my patience has paid off on several occasions. Many years ago, I stumbled upon an import copy of Gary Numan's amazing live album "Living Ornaments '79" at a price comparable to what I would have paid on eBay. Last night, I was surprised to find several near-mint vinyl albums to satisfy my proclivity for post-punk, new wave, and art rock, including selections from Be-Bop Deluxe ("Sunburst Finish"), ABC ("The Lexicon of Love"), Thompson Twins ("Into the Gap"), Jean-Michel Jarre ("Magnetic Fields"), and The Comsat Angels ("7-Day Weekend"). The latter album saw a limited release in the US over thirty years ago, so I was thrilled to find a copy on vinyl. I was pleased to discover that CD Exchange has begun accepting and selling vintage video game consoles and software. Last night, I picked up several great games for the Atari 2600, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and SNES. The pricing was all over the place, though, with many items overpriced and many offered at a fraction of their current value. I possess an encyclopedic knowledge of video games (a dubious talent), so I chose wisely and paid less than $20 for a lot of games worth approximately $50 online. Exercise caution and restraint, however, lest you blow $60 on a practically worthless AtGames SEGA Genesis clone console. As physical media gives way to digital distribution, I appreciate the few remaining brick-and-mortar outlets that cater to old souls like me. Your mileage may vary depending on your tastes, but search long enough and you'll surely find at least one CD, vinyl record, movie, or game to suit your style. read more

I love this location! Staff is always helpful and willing to go above and beyond my expectations of a store cashier. They are also very friendly with some of the best stories I've (over)heard. I usually only go to CDE if I'm looking for something that's old or for anime. They might have, on occasions, a semi-good deal on new/current CDs and DVDs but most of the time the prices are about the same if you went to Target or Wal-mart for it. read more

Buyer beware!!! I went by this location today to get fixed or exchange a disc that I got yesterday which did not work, hung up half way through playback. Got it. Using a customer appreciation card, one of those buy 10 get one free cards. Was helped by a short girl with black hair, she said they don't run Blu rays through the cleaner. So she wiped something on it and rubbed it with a towel. I said why don't you just exchange it with a good one? She said she couldn't do that because I didn't have a receipt. I explained they didnt give me one. Because i got it with the card. When I did that they made me show the driver's license and write down all the information including my phone number. So, the told her you have all that information just look it up. She wouldn't do that. Stuck with a defective Blu-ray, i suggested to her that she just keep it and sell it again to somebody else. that way she could go through this whole stupid routine one more time.
