Great selection of media and concert shirts. It's worth visiting this south side staple!

A lot of unique gifts and items. Record selection was not the best but still worth a visit.

Fifty years of operating on the southside of San Antonio and despite the untimely loss of their beloved owner, Clarissa, before her time, the family keeps it going. Flip Side was a shop my older brother wouldn't allow me to go to. He said it wasn't for little girls so I had no idea what they sold or what he was buying. He was into metal music in the 80s I figured it was dude stuff like leather and chains. Yes, they have that but so much more. They have all your classic rock vinyl needs as well as other genres such as rap, and pop. Tons of posters including black light. Some vintage items including a cardboard poster cut out of Carlos Santana that I want but would be kind of creepy to bring home and set up in the living room or hallway. I'd scare myself in the middle of the night. You can find a ton of incense sticks, incense holders, rolling papers, pipes and the like. Some hand-crafted earrings, wallets, and purses from Peru. You can spend a good hour browsing through the different sections of the store. The shop owners are really cool and you can spend another hour chatting it up with them or petting the dogs behind the counter. They're an institution. They should be recognized for their 50th and honored in some way. It's a must do! read more

Came down for their Save Record Store day that had music outside with KISS FM onsite and a BBQ pit with sausage or chicken with rice and beans. It was a great little block party with plenty of people. Had to check out the store and was pleased with their rock selection and back area with trinkets and such. People here were nice and glad to have found another record store in town. read more

No place like it anymore. Just go and see. It is as much of a museum of music history as a store.

Flip Side Record Parlor was the place I could roll up to, buy a super rad metal shirt, find an old vinyl, and buy the latest metal album on cassette at. Local, small, and always rad little record shop that I adored as a teenager. When I finally got my first car Flip Side was the first place I came to so that I could by car decals for my windows. They always had the Pantera, Sepultura, Faith No More, Megadeth, etc bands on decals that you can buy for less than $3 so that you could put them on your used car. This was also the best place for me to get incenses and even check out all the free flyers and gig show flyers of all the local bands and shows that go on in San Antonio. Flip Side Records has and will always be the big brother for me when it comes to schooling me in all things music (especially metal music), local, and just gave me a deep appreciation for having a shop like Flip Side in southside San Antonio. Now as an adult I came in here recently and made notes of what I wanted to ask of my family to get us for Xmas. I requested some t-shirts (including a Flip Side Record one), more car decals, and even did some vinyl shopping for myself as I made those notes. Way to represent southside San Antonio, Flip Side. I remember back in the day when 99.5 KISS reigned FM Radio and a carload full of wasteoids would descend upon our city. Their mission: to hunt for the latest local music. Alongside Hogwild Records, Flipside was the only other musical outlet that carried cool shirts, stickers, patches, posters, vinyl, tapes and a dizzying array of pipes. (Not that I would know anything about those.) But as quickly as music mediums have transferred into streaming formats so has Flipside Records relocated to another place. Time moves forward and everything changes. Or does it? Although it's moved further down South West Military Drive it's exactly the same way as I remembered. It still reeks of hippie incense but in a smaller space. Inside there are shelves of classic rock on vinyl. The walls are decorated with posters, fliers of upcoming local shows. Display cases house cassettes, cd's, stickers, patches, t-shirts and of course glass pipes of ever variety. Walking through the small aisles made me harken back to a time without the advent of online shopping. When record stores were a great source for discovering new music, thus a scene was created. Sure the store is starting to look its age but who said that rock and roll was meant to be pretty. I would remiss if I didn't add that the counterperson was extremely helpful and friendly. If you're in the market for some music to remind you of your head-banging days or are in desperate need of that patch that will make your denim jacket pop, Flipside is for you! It is a bit pricey but a small price to pay for a Southside staple that has been here since the dawn of the mullet. read more

Flip Side Record Parlor is one of those places you can feel the history when you walk in, and I'm terribly grateful to Chris, one of my former photog mentors, for putting me onto it. Chris has been friends with owner Clarisa since childhood. When I told her I knew him, she immediately pulled out old pictures of them from the 90s, and then of Flip Side, which has been in business in San Antonio since 1972! The original owner, Doug, sadly passed away seven years ago, but his spirit is still very much alive in the many quirky relics, incredible woodwork, and his Grey parrot who can be overhead saying "goodbye" through the fantastic selection of music playing on vinyl. It's the kind of ghost you want haunting you, fully equipped with records, tees, vintage clothes, incense, posters, novelties, and everything you need to be nostalgic of good times. Doug passed the business on to Clarisa knowing full well she would put the same level of love into in - and she really does! Clarisa has archives of stories from her 24 years working here, including one she shared about the wooden crates being hand-built in-house as they were too big to fit through the door. And you'll be amazed at what you dig up in them! Definitely check this small business out in southside Alamo City. read more

One of the reasons a record store will go out of business is the store is not open to sell records. Read in the paper that Flip Side was struggling so made a special trip on Saturday. Store was closed and lights are off. Oh well. read more

Flip Side! Memories. This is the place to go for pipes to smoke that green stuff in. If you sell powdered wonder dust, you could also buy your little baggies. I attended McCollum high school. We would skip school and visit flip side to buy our stuff for crack. Those were the days. I loved the white tees with the flip side logo on the back. Haven't been back to visit. I heard it's closed. This place looks really cool from the outside but that's as far as I got. I went on a Saturday 30 minutes after they were supposed to be open but were not. I waited 10 more minutes and still nothing. Hopefully they'll be open the next time I'm in town. read more
