It was a little smaller than I expected, but it's still easy to spend an hour or two here with friends. They also serve food, which I'll have to come back and try another time. Instead of ordering drinks at the bar, you start a tab by leaving your credit card with the cashier. They give you a tap card that lets you pour your own drinks. You can sample just a little or fill up a whole glass. It's completely up to you. They have everything from beer and wine to a few craft cocktails on tap. If you want to try something different, you can swap out your glass and keep exploring. The same tap card also activates all of the arcade games, which I thought was a really cool touch. It makes everything feel connected instead of having to carry around a bunch of tokens or cash. When I visited, they were hosting trivia night. It definitely brought in a crowd. Most of the tables were full, so walking around got a little tight because the space isn't very big. Even so, the atmosphere was lively. It felt like everyone was having a good time. I ended up trying the Cranberry Mule, which I really enjoyed. It was nice being able to pour just the amount I wanted instead of committing to a full drink. Overall, I had a really fun time here. It's a unique spot that gives you something a little different from your typical bar. Once you're ready to leave, you just close out your tab and head home. I'd definitely come back with a group of friends.

There was a band playing, a food truck and a Padres game on. Always a good time when you can catch the Pads on TV. I started off with their Blonde Ale, "Fun Times" which was good and also had their Mexican Lager "Surveza", both good and drinkable. I had a sip of their New Zealand IPA "MTNS" which was simply too hoppy for me. We got to try the Cubano Panini from the food truck that was there that day, and that was good. Overall a good brewery, cool/industrial location. With rustic vibes and open space. Lots of seating options both indoor and outdoor- major plus in my book. The bartenders were friendly and even let us try a sip of a upcoming beer. Cool find. Parking is a bit limited.

The security guard with the beard was extremely rude and acted more like a barback than security…read more We've been coming here for years... and last Friday a group of people took a table we were using, even though two of our friends were already sitting there and told them the table was taken. We were a group of about 7-8 people total. When we came back after grabbing drinks, we saw that the other group had completely taken over the table. They said they didn't care that we were regulars and called the security guard over. We explained the situation, and his response directly to us was: "I don't care, you can shut up, close your tab, and leave." We had already spent plenty of money there and were not asking for special treatment, but the lack of professionalism was awful. I've worked in customer service for almost a decade and have never spoken to a customer that way. This is exactly how a good place can lose loyal customers because of incompetent staff.

I just want to start off by saying I love Hoffer's, but now that the GM Michael left this place isn't the "cheers" type bar anymore. I go in there almost everyday and going alone was never a problem. Michael was always so friendly, could hold a conversation and had an amazing knowledge of the beers on tap. His replacement, Ryan, is a completely different story. Ryan knows who I am and continues time and time again to ignore me and others in the bar except for his friends. Now my story begins.. I'm sitting at the bar and waiting to order a beer. Ryan is off near the cooler talking to his friends about some sport game. He serves his friend the beer I was waiting to ask for. Finally after 10 MINUTES I was finally acknowledged, I ordered my beer, paid for it and drank it quickly so I could leave because I wasn't enjoying myself. In the time I finished my beer, so had Ryan's friend. His friend paid $3 for the same beer I paid $6 for. This is (use to be) such a great place, but now it's crap and I'm not the first regular to say this. I hope Phil finds someone else to runs his bar before his "manager" runs off all the regulars and drowns this business. read more

Hoffer's has the best craft beer selection that I have found in San Diego. They always carry at least 24 brews on tap plus several wines. Their rotation changes every week or two and always brings in great new stuff to try. The beer is great, and I want to shake the hand of the person who selects it. They always have something that I have not tried yet. The bartenders are very friendly and will let you sample anything before you buy it if you ask. The regulars are also very friendly. They also have a great cigar selection (including my favorite La Flor Dominicanas) and all the smokers congregate outside on their well-furnished patio. I usually bring my pipe and a tin of tobacco (when I do not feel like splurging on a cigar). Today, it has been a quite day, and I brought buy laptop with a couple articles so that I could work on an assignment for a professor at university. Anyone is welcome all the time. Great prices on the beer and wine also. Plus happy hour goes from the time they open to 7 p.m. everyday. They also have a live jazz band every Saturday night and football on Sundays and Mondays. Don't let the words "Cigar Bar" fool you. This place is hands down one of my top three in town for BEER. They have the cleanest lines in all of SD (I have inquired and tasted around. yes, even better than O'Brians or Hamilton's for cleanliness). If you don't know, clean lines = most authentic taste for the beer. Mike is very knowledgeable about their selection as well as what is going on around town in the beer world. They have a great happy hour, going from "open till 7" and you are sure to make friends with other customers as that people that go here seem quite friendly. I am not much for Cigar smoking and thought that might be a turn off, but the cigar smoking is done on the back patio and somehow they manage to keep the smoke outside, so those with smoke allergies don't have to worry, either! Go here if you like really good beer out of really clean lines. read more

We love you Hoffer! Please open so we can enjoy good times again! Best beer selection in all of San Diego, best vibe, great rear patio with heaters for the cool evenings. Several TVs inside and outside so you can catch a ball game occasionally as well. They are mainly a cigar bar, and have an AMAZING cigar selection - from cheaper to mid-range, to high-end. The staff is all very knowledgeable on cigars and their craft beer selection, and they are all very friendly and cool (no grouchy bar tenders here, but also a no-BS bar too. As long as your not a PITA, you'll be well catered). No food, but you can have food ordered and delivered to you in the shop from any awesome downtown La Mesa restaurant. Very poor, intolerant customer service. I went in there on election night and they had the CNN polls results on the TV. After cheering for some of the results, I soon realized that everyone in the bar, except for me, was rooting for the apposing political side. The bartender started giving me dirty looks and told me to either "shut the fuck up or leave!" I left. Turns out the bartender and some of the costumers from that night lied to the owner, and even said I was threatening and yelling at people, in an attempt to get me banned from Hoffer's. I must say that I am highly disappointed that they would discriminate against me, simply for my political views. The actions of the bar tender showed very poor customer service. read more

This place is very chill, and I was totally pleased with how much selection they had. They have two different humidors, and have a big selection cigar flavors and prices. The beer selection was amazing too, and they even had this chipotle beer that my buddy Trent totally loved. I ended up going with a $10 rum flavored cigar and a porterhouse brew, and totally loved the combo. You have to smoke outside, kind of obviously, and the chairs weren't very comfy, but the atmosphere was nice, and they had the game on. PLUS! A bunch of the local restaurants deliver to this place, so we didn't even have to leave our seats for food! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! A lot of great beers on draft, my personal favorite being Racer 5, very chill atmosphere, and a great smoking patio with a plasma TV. Wonderful place if you just want to hang out with good friends, enjoy a conversation without having to shout, smoke a cigar/cigarette, and sample delicious beers from across the globe. I came in the other night, and it was just awful! The bartender was too busy either on his cell phone Or talking to his friends then to take care of new patrons that have never been there before!!! Not to mention a horrible draft list . We're in beer capital of America and the choices are a joke ! Who ever is running this place is running it straight into the ground.
