Good local spot for casual drinks and pool. I had never been here prior to the revamp, but thought the interior was well done. The copper bar top is a nice touch, and there's even purse hooks underneath. There's a jukebox to play the music of your choice. When we came on Sunday, there was happy hour which made the drinks a good deal. You can order food, however, it comes from the business across the parking lot. The salt and pepper chicken wings were better than the buffalo. We sat at a table, and the bartender was super attentive. This is a good spot to support local business!

So the newly renovated Albi now know as the Malt House. Aka Hop House as I call it is new and improved. We are getting use to the new bartender. He is actually pretty nice. We do miss Casey our sarcastic Bartender. We keep missing her every time we are here.

(This is literally the only place I've found that has carajillos on the menu.) Brussels sprouts are crisp but not greasy. I ordered a side of gyros and got a decent-sized portion. My hubby ordered a meat-free pizza for Lent, and was still happy with it. (They have gf and cauliflower crusts too, so !) We have both decided that this is the place for pizza in Santee. The weather is perfect in the spring for outdoor dining. There are shades for privacy since the restaurant's got grocery store traffic. The throwback rock music suits the establishment, and isn't too loud if you want a good convo. There are also lots of TVs both inside and out. Today's server, Lizzy, was so amazing! Super attentive, patient with questions, and quick to offer refills. And so relaxed and cheerful for a Friday afternoon! Thanks for a really nice dining experience, Lizzy!

The NFL Wildcard game was on all the TVs, so that was a plus. We started with drinks. A pint of Buenaveza was $7, which is relatively normal pricing. But 9 bucks for a pint of Ashland Seltzer is crazy. 2 Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sliders $16 Pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, house sauce and shoestring fries. They were decent, but not even remotely spicy. Chicken was cooked well with crunchy exterior and not dried out inside. Zero spice. If anything, the sauce on them was sweet. 2 Double Double Wagyu Beef Sliders $18 American cheese (subbed pepper jack), grilled onions, house sauce and shoestring fries. Inedible. Two overcooked hockey pucks in a bun. Two bites were all I could stomach. 18 bucks for burnt burgers. The fries were good and plentiful. I appreciated the pickle wedge. Service was sluggish at best. At one point we had to flag down a different server and ask to have ours return. We had been waiting, with empty drink glasses, to order our meals. She was friendly enough, just not very attentive. Nah, don't need to return.

The restaurant was very busy because of Bingo night. I felt like the bartender was having to do too many things at once. I felt bad for him honestly. We sat at the bar so it felt a bit stressful to watch him run around behind the bar. Hope he is able to get some help on a busier night like that night. All in all, I would go back. Nice to know I have a restaurant nearby that has the best potato skins on their happy hour menu.

The Oaks proved to be the perfect venue. When we arrived, the group had commandeered several tables in the dining room. Becky and I bellied up the adjacent large horseshoe shaped bar. The TVs were all tuned to various NFL games. A group of Steelers fans were in the dining room next to our group watching and cheering their team on a giant TV. Becky and I wanted to watch the Seahawks. Mike, Director of the Carlton Oaks Country Club, was happy to put it on one of the many TVs for us. We wanted a snack, so we ordered the Potato Skins. Potato halves filled with cheese, bacon bits and chives. They are cut lengthwise in half for easier dipping and eating. Served with ranch and sour cream for dipping. Bottles of Tapatio, Tabasco and Cholula were provided if you wanted to spice it up. They were quite tasty and the perfect portion size. Price was right too! Because of the acoustics, the dining room can get a little loud. If you just want to chill and take in the view, step outside to the patio. Great views of the golf course. Service at the bar was friendly and on point. The large groups in the dining room were being well taken care of as well.

Sometimes servers can check in a little too often and interrupt conversation, but the staff here does a great job of being attentive without being intrusive. They are fast, intentional, and always friendly. Now for the food, it's delicious. Their specialty rolls never miss. The Sexy Roll will always be my favorite. The edamame and miso soup are also great appetizers to start with. The prices are a bit high, so we tend to come here more for special occasions or date nights, but the quality makes it worth it. Overall it's a great spot with consistent service and really good sushi.

Spicy garlic broth with thin wavy noodles and shrimp. The broth was rich and notably spicy. The shrimp were plump and very tasty. My only complaint was there were only three shrimp in the entire bowl. Outside of that it was a very generous portion and really good ramen. I added a side of steamed rice for a $3 upcharge. Didn't need it. I wasn't going to go without sushi, so I also ordered the Tuna Roll $8.00. Basic tuna and rice. Nothing special, no sauces or anything but cured the crave. We opened with the Creamy Lobster appetizer. It is pricey at $28.00 so it is a once in a while splurge. We used the excuse that it was Valentine's Day. LOL! Baby lobster lightly fried tempura style topped with special sauce. This is one of our favorite things on the menu. Perfectly fried and the sauce is divine! It requires 20 minutes cook time so plan accordingly. Becky chose her favorite and her go-to the Crunchy Roll $15.00 Shrimp tempura, krab, avocado, and cucumber, topped with tempura crumbs, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. She loves this roll and will never not get it. She added a side of Chicken Fried Rice $7.00. She likes to take a few bites then take the rest home for her lunches. She'll get a solid three or four meals out of it. Service at the bar was outstanding. Becky was given a small heart-shaped box of chocolates for Valentine's Day. We thought that was a nice touch.
