We were here for a good time, not a long time. Three of us gals came to boot scoot and celebrate a big birthday, but it was Easter weekend and every spot we visited was dead dead dead. Our final shot at fun was going to be at the Hochatown Saloon. Walking in around 11pm on a Saturday and I could see through the swinging double doors that the dancefloor was sadly empty.
We debated about paying the $10 cover charge to enter but we were committed to trying to make this night a success for our birthday girl. While my friends entered the bar area, I chatted with the lovely woman taking the cover charge. I told her of our unsuccessful night so far and she - almost as an afterthought - mentioned that sometimes there was a
"Magic Mike thing" that happened on special nights.
My fun-radar pinged on that phrase immediately and I said "what do I need to do to ensure that happens?" She directed me to speak to Sam, the manager in the OSU hat, and I hunted him down. I asked about the mythical Magic Mike and he said "yeah, I think we have the right people here to make that happen". Still shrouded in mystery, I knew whatever was going to happen was going to start around 11:45. Secret plan in motion, I rejoined my friends and kept an eye on the clock.
What transpired next was something I never in a million years could have imagined. My friend's name was announced by the DJ and she was guided to one of three chairs that had been surreptitiously placed on the dancefloor. Two bachelorettes materialized and took the chairs on either side of her.
Then... like magic (Mike)... one of the bartenders (!!!) slid in on his knees and started skillfully dancing for my friend. The whole place hollered and cheered and then a second bartender came flying across the floor as if propelled by unseen forces. He arose and started gyrating like a pro for one of the bachelorettes. Their moves were astounding! Ladies were lifted into the air and there were acrobatic flips and some very impressive dancing. No clothes were removed, which was also nice. The experience lasted the entire length of My Pony by Ginuwine, and afterwards the bartenders returned to their duties. It was magical, and surprising, and completely made our night.
I will add to this review that I was told some troubling rumors about this place that almost prevented us from going at all. Rumors that the Saloon was not entirely safe for females. We took those to heart and were very careful with the alcohol consumed here. We were only there for an hour, but did not see anything nefarious during our time. Still, it's worth mentioning.
I want to thank Sam, and the DJ and the nice lady at the front (sorry I can't recall your names) for being kind and generous and ensuring our night was fun.
Sam even let the birthday girl ride the bucking bronco. read more
