I used to love this place! The food was good, the drinks were good, and it had a great atmosphere! But recently I went with some friends, were all in college, and we were yelled at by a bouncer outside to show ids. This is a restaurant not a club? And my friend and I have out of state ids because were out of state college students, crazy i know. We were yelled at that our ids were fake, said he saw us walk around and get turned down at other places, and called us liars. We offered other form of id, to scan them, blacklight, whatever! But the bouncer was jus some old guy who was getting off on yelling at some girls?? Im not going to this place again after that. read more

The food at Ho'Brah is quite good. I especially like their nachos and the wide selection of tacos. The atmosphere is not as great. It feels very touristy, despite being touted as a 'local Staten Island place', and the wait is always extremely long. Several times when I've tried to eat dinner at Ho'Brah, I've been told that the wait will be over an hour and a half, and I've chosen to go elsewhere. So, great food if you're willing to wait for it! read more

The good is great here... so are the drinks! Unfortunately I was only able to come once since I tried going back since then its always too long of a wait to get seated. Very crowded on weekends! Problem parking in the area also... but I hope to try going back again. read more

We love Ho Brah! We have been coming here since they opened. Always an AWESOME experience. The staff is attentive and knowledge about the menu. When our family to visit this one of our destinations. Our family has traveled to California. This is the authentic food. Simple menu with fresh ingredients. Whether it was served from a truck or a sit down restaurant. We wish them good luck, their first restaurant still in operation is located in Brooklyn. In the pictures are desserts we shared tonight. Huge warm fudge brownie hidden by 3 large scoops of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. The second is tres leches. read more

Such a gem on Forest Ave. Love the one in Bay Ridge but this one has to be 6 times the size plus a generous outdoor space. We ordered the chicken quesadilla which had fresh cooked chicken (not reheated), guac (a staple and delicious), and loco frites (so , so good). Flight of frozen Margs were perfect, if I had only one flavored version, I would have gotten over it quick. Tequila lime shrimp + burritos all around for meals. Churros were crispy outside with a soft center, not to be missed. All in all : delicious food, amazing service, friendly bartender, and a manager checking on tables = A+ in my book. I've dined here on several occasions but I'm not always drinking and this is somewhat of a party place so I prefer to go here when a cocktail or two is on-program for me! This is California style Mexican, super casual and should be located beach side! In fact, the only real improvement I can think would make this place better for me, for what it is, would be open air dining. It's got a laid back surfer/skater vibe and deserves an outdoor environment where such types can sit outside with cool drinks and their dogs, eat some tacos and chill. I have never tried anything on the menu I didn't like, but my favorites are the Classic Cali fish taco and the empanadas. I will continue to enjoy this place! read more

I was in the mood for Mexican food and I love Mexican style street corn. So I decided to take my family here and I was really looking forward to it. The decor and servers are nice..outdoor seating and I had eaten here before and it was great. However last nights experience was not good at all....the food, drinks and bill were terrible. My son ordered a lemonade, a LEMONADE...it was AWFUL! I mean who screws up lemonade?!? It was the most bitter, lemon water we ever had...sent it back for a Strawberry lemonade and it was still terrible. My Mojito was flavorless. Drinks aside, we ordered the street fare corn....WHO SERVES SOGGY CORN ON THE COB?!? Street corn should be grilled...this was obviously boiled corn and it tasted soggy and again flavorless. My fish tacos were room temperature and edible...nothing special...flavorless. I was so disappointed that I just wanted to get the bill and leave...$71...$71?!? The food was overpriced and not good. Starting out, we had the guac and chips (freshly made) which were so good. The shrimp ceviche was delicious and so were the goat cheese and corn empanadas (that nights special). My boyfriend and I shared a plate of tacos. We got the Thai shrimp (AMAZING!!), got both types of fish tacos (my favorite was the fried one) and the chicken and ground meat were unremarkable (definitely won't be getting them again). I ordered the mole chicken for dinner and it tasty. As soon as I finished eating half of it, I developed very strong stomach cramps and had to leave. Shortly after I left I started throwing up and the stomach pains would not go away. I love mole chicken and I order it everytime I go to Mexican restaurants. I have never experienced any stomach problems at all with this dish until now. Will not be returning! read more

One of the top Mexican food joints on Staten Island without a question. Great drinks and their guac is authentic. One options of theirs I love most is they serve single tacos so you don't have to get an order of 3-4 like other Mexican spots. Love this place! I used to go to the Brooklyn location all the time but it is so convenient to now have this establishment so close to home. The tacos are out of sight especially the classic Cali (fried fish). The ceviche is another favorite of mine as well as the margarita flight and shrimp empanada. The only reason I give a four out of five stars is because the service can be a bit slow and a bit spotty at times although WHEN service is spot on the servers are very friendly. Also they took away Taco Tuesday (buy one get one) which is really disappointing so I haven't been in a while! Bummer. Prices are moderate to high so I would go once a week. Food was ok, but I dont know if it was just us but our small group of 4 had to wait 45min+++ just to get service ! All we got were menus no water, nothing. It disappointing as i was supposed to be really good. Also, by the time we got our tacos they were cold and the soft shell tacos were hard (!) what TF?! Awesome catering. I love eating here so I gave them a shot when i hosted a graduation party earlier this summer. My first event was so successful and the food loved by my guests so I used Ho Brah for catering again this past weekend. Both events I did a taco bar. Each time the food was outstanding. Steak, bohemian chicken and sunset pork are what I ordered for both events. The food was so good, the steak stayed tender in the sterno dish, it was a huge hit. The pork and chicken were also flavorful and fresh. Everything was done right. They provided 3 different kinds of salsa and several kinds of crema. The corn tortillas were grilled and held the filling without breaking. The guacamole was the best we ever ate. They also provided flour tortillas as well. I was really impressed with the food during my first event, and so were my guests. So I used them for the second event and i swear the food was even better this time. The jasmine rice was so fluffy and well seasoned. I'm not huge bean fan, but my guests raves about the beans so I know it was good. My food was ready and n time and freshly cooked. Very professional. I highly recommend doing a ho brah taco bar event if you're entertaining. The food was outstanding, my guests loved making their own tacos, it was different and less $$ then your typical chicken Marsala/penne vodka fare. read more

I just hosted a surprise birthday party for my husband's 30th birthday party and Ho'Brah was THE BEST!! From the beginning Tony, the manager, was amazingly helpful in making the day perfect. Andrew and the rest of the wait staff were incredible. Everyone made comments about how wonderful everything tasted and how attentive and friendly the staff is. AWESOME place to host a party and a great place for just dinner as well. My favorite items: chips+guac, pork empanadas, the fried fish taco, and the dessert churros! LOVE THIS PLACE! The only reason they are getting 4 stars is that they only have one item on the dessert menu (more on this later). Awesome Mojitos, delicious and unusually filled tacos, beans and jasmine rice - oh my! What a wonderful lunch we had on Saturday! Everything was delicious and fresh and served hot. The cod in panko breadcrumbs in a taco was to die for. I have been fiending for another one for the last few days. It was covered in California cole slaw and served on a soft taco. In a word - YUM! We split a ground beef, jack and cheddar quesidilla and it was very good. And we split an order of rice and beans. It was plenty for 2 people; you didn't need your own serving. The bus boys were a little aggressive with the clearing of the plates. In 2 instances my friend was still eating. I mean she had food in her mouth and was chewing, holding her taco above the plate they wanted to take. They were very nice but a little too into their jobs. (I've noticed this behavior of bus boys in quite a few restaurants lately - what is that about? Hmmmmmm...) The only disappointment was dessert! We asked if they had a dessert menu because we didn't see it on the main menu. Our waitress explained, "No we don't have a dessert menu; the only dessert we have is a tres leche cake." My friend and I needed something sweet with our coffee so we split it. While it was good -- everything about it was VANILLA! Like in your face vanilla bean! Awfully sweet. Awfully white. We didn't finish it. If they had a dessert menu (i.e., numerous dessert items on a list for one to choose from - some of them chocolate flavored) I would have given them 5 stars without hesitation. Hey Ho Brah - you need to seriously put together a dessert MENU -- with more than one item on it! And make your offerings as funky as your overall restaurant/menu vibe! read more

Save yourself the trip. It's not worth the expensive bill for mediocre food and crappy service. The servers were too busy talking to one another in their corner to even acknowledge us. Don't even get me started on the looks we received when we tried to get a table. One server looked at one another and another server had to seat us instead. It even took us a while to get our check. Honestly, the service I received was not even worth 10% of their tip. If the service is horrible, that already kills the vibe of the atmosphere and the name of the restaurant. I really wanted to like it, but the service made me want to walk out the door. Management, stop hiring kids that don't know simple restaurant etiquettes. read more

Great atmosphere! Great bartender (Mr. Mike Saz)! And incredible food! There were only two things in my opinion that could be improved. The Baja Street Corn was delicious, perfectly prepared and chock full of flavor... But as with all corn on the cob you're going to get kernels stuck in your teeth and as much as this corn is well worth the kernels perhaps serving it with some complimentary toothpicks would be worth while. Especially if you are on a date and don't want to spend the rest of your night second guessing your smile. Secondly, the tacos are incredible; my wife and I sampled 4 different tacos and the fillings were all stellar. My personal favorite was the Classic Cali (crispy cod taco.) The only down fall were the corn tortillas which seemed to be very dry and crumbly. read more

Went here last night after hearing a bunch of friends talk about it. Never been to the Brooklyn location but this Staten Island one is mediocre at best in terms of food. The inside is nice, cool, laid back, and seems like a chill place to casually hang out with friends for some drinks. The food however was just OK. Not bad, but not good either. You can drive 2 min to Port Richmond from here and get some real and wayy better mexican food and at a cheaper price. Anybody who gives this place 5 stars needs to get out more. read more

45 minute wait turn into an hour and a half. The two girls running the front end seat friends and the people who know the manager first. Does not take reservations but according to the manager they take some reservations. We were seated next to the bar and constantly bumped the entire meal. Towards the end of the meal the bar got crowded and spilled over into the dining area. A large group of drunk people started seating themselves around us and fighting with the manager why they should be allowed to sit. I had to stand up while trying to pay the bill. The manager did do the right thing and comp the meal without us saying anything but with an experience like that I'm sure we will never return. And it's a shame because the food and drinks are actually very good read more

The atmosphere of this place is really cool. It looks small a but is on the bigger side. The bar is a decent size and the staff is super friendly. I had a margarita , coñsuelas empanadas and rice and beans. The food and drinks were delicious. I feel it is a little pricy though. The empanadas were on the menu for $4. And on the bill it was $7.50 for 2. They're filling but you need a side and this doesn't come with it. I never questioned why it was more , but I will next time. I'll def. come back to this place sometime soon to try more things ! Was not a fan of the chocolate banana empanadas, as wasn't everyone else at my table. Tried to make a reservation twice in the past month; first was told we only take reservations for parties of 8; I call to make a reservation for a party of 8 for Dine Out Against Hunger - only to then be told "my boss tells me to tell everyone we don't take reservations." WTF kind of business do you run? Your staff isn't even on the same page! So you lose the potential income of 16 customers and the future potential income of 16 x who knows how many (the words of unsatisfied customers spreads like wildfire).
