I want to like this place. Badly. It has a great vibe, awesome decor, and cool atmosphere but my taste buds just won't let this faux Mexican-Bahafornian-like restaurant get by on just visual appeal and decent drinks. No brah - you drop the taco in the kitchen department. I've been to Ho 'Brah Staten Island 4x and, unfortunately, I've been disappointed in the food exactly 4x. I just can't do it again. After all, the definition of insanity is to repeat the same action while expecting a different result; and I don't want to be branded as insane! Especially not for a place that can't make a decent friggin' taco, yo. Seriously, though, the menu is fantastic, creative, and visually tasteful but when you actually get the selection of tacos you mouth-wateringly ordered, you'll be disappointed. It's frustratingly bland. Whether you order the cod, beef, steak, or chicken, there's absolutely no flavor and you won't understand why and every time I've gone, I left bewildered. The only flavors you'll taste are the slaw, which is everywhere, and the sauces, which is everywhere else. I've had them put the toppings on the side or cook the tortilla longer but to no avail. It always tastes like buffet salad on a rubbery slice of tortilla. The drinks are decent, the quesadilla is fine (but then again, my 9yr old can make a decent quesadilla), and the staff is cool and friendly. So brah, take a trip down to Tijuana, find yourself a taco cart and bring back some ideas on how to turn your perfectly mediocre tacos into something worth throwing on a NYC Thrillist list so Staten Islanders can be proud of a trendy taco joint in the middle of suburban NYC. read more

This is a new taco joint that recently opened on Staten Island and apparently there is another one in Brooklyn. My first impression walking in was the the place was nicely put together. Great interior. Very inviting. Made me want to drink lol. It was really busy inside but quickly quieted down as we arrived just as peak dinner time was ending. We started with margaritas and beer. The margaritas were great. The beer selection is respectable. For appetizers we ordered the street corn, pork empanadas and chips and salsa. The street corn was really great. It's grilled and topped with cheese and a variety of spices. It's really good. The empanadas were ok. Not amazing but good. The chips were slightly stale and there was a twisty tie in the basket. Since they're calling themselves a taco joint we decided to get tacos. They only give you one taco per order so we ordered a few different ones as to try a variety. We got the Cali special, the bohemian and the pork taco. Which were all just meh. Nothing special. The presentation was nice. But they looked better than they tasted. Our waiter was very attentive. You can tell he had a lot of experience as a waiter because he knew just how to push the product. Overall I feel Ho Brah was ok. It felt like it could be a chain restaurant. We ended up spending about $100 on the meal for two. But left feeling slightly disappointed as people we know think it's a great place. Pay them a visit and judge for yourself. read more

The atmosphere - trendy & comfortable. The music - perfect and fitting. The service - friendly and helpful. The food - not so great. As a vegan (also coming with a vegetarian friend), there is little to really one option. The Sausalito. For lack of better words, it sucked. It really didn't have any flavor and was kind of painful to eat (so glad I only ordered one). Turned me off completely. I'm sure that if you are not vegetarian or vegan their other tacos are probably not as bad. But all in all, do NOT come here if you are vegetarian/vegan. Despite the monstrosity in a tortilla, I was happy with the surplus of chips and guac provided and their lemonade was perfect, not too sweet like you'd usually get. Yaaas! Ho Brah in walking distance to my house!! This restaurant has been at least 4 different things the last 5 years, so I'm hoping this one sticks around. But I'm confident! If you've been to their Bay Ridge location then you know the menu. I had the pork empanadas. Shredded pork and pinapple, served with a green verde sauce for dipping. Delicious! I also had the cod taco, (not fried). Delicious as well. Fresh fish and overstuffed (the way I like it). I also recommend the pinapple ginger margarita with a splash of jalapeño. Disappointed I didn't check out this spot sooner! Decided to head here for a late lunch during a weekday and to my surprise this place was PACKED. They had outside seating with most tables reserved for a private event but still had a couple available tables for the public which we were able to snag. I checked out their vegetarian tacos (don't remember the names) but our server was super sweet and pointed out all the vegetarian options. My friend and I split the guac, salsa and chips and everything was delicious! I think one of the tacos had chopped up asparagus which to my surprise actually tasted good as a filling. Personally, 3 tacos and the app filled me up but overall, I have had better tacos in the city. That being said it's still the better Mexican spots in Staten and for the location, price and service, definitely still a win for me. Had lunch there was ok from all the hype I expected more there was no wait for a table which was good. Menu was small but that was good in a way. Needs help We were seated and made comfortable by a friendly staff and that was the best part of the experience. I had steak chimmichuri which was drowned in lime juice. I'm a regular at the Brooklyn location so I decided to try the Staten Island. Save your toll and gas money and stick to the original location. The waiters are young kids who spend more time hanging out than making sure their tables are alright. The food doesn't taste as good as the Brooklyn location either. We had tried to get a table three times before only to be told that the wait was 45min to 1 hour. So this time it was our luck to not have to wait. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. The food came quickly. We had the shrimp empanadas, they were fantastic! The ceviche was perfect! We had three different tacos; pork , beef and fish. They were very good, presentation and flavor. Ho Brah... the intersection of Hipster and Bro? Anyway, cool place to hang out, very fun, colorful surfer vibes. Got a decent selection of beers. Wouldn't describe the food as standard tex-mex, but more like an elevated Mexican type food. Fresh tasting chips and salsa with a kick to start. Diablo Shrimp taco is my favorite, it's nicely grilled shrimp with a perfect amount of heat with crispy slaw and cream. Sunset Pork isn't bad, but just a little too sweet. The shredded chicken-lime taco was kind of weird, damp, grey, and tasted of too much lime flavored marinade. Tacos would be better if they were double wrapped, they kind of get a little wet and lose their structural integrity. I'd say Ho Brah is good, but it could be a little better. 3.5 read more

Ho'Brah is one of the better taco joints on Staten Island. I'll get down to brass tax on this one: The tacos are good and a la carte, about $3 a piece and 2-3 tacos can fill you up. Maybe 4-5 if you're starvin'. The Margaritas are good and will get you drunk, but aren't cheap. I personally like Jose Tejas margaritas better but that's another story (They're also not on Staten Island). All in all, a good place on Staten Island to get your taco and margarita fix. read more

Ho'brah is a pretty mediocre restaurant. i didn't have very high expectations to begin with but I still felt disappointed. My boyfriend had the bobbo burrito and it was super bland. Honestly, it tasted more like a chicken wrap. I had the chicken mole burrito and I had to drench it in salsa to give it flavor. Where do I begin on my LOVE for Ho'Brah taco joint....Brooklyn & Staten Island locations are both on point, but size alone helps Staten Island win me and my friends/family over for big groups. The family feel along with the west coast surf vibe takes happy hour and family dinners to a whole new level. Perfect after a long week at work and helps solve for that vacation itch when you can't get out of town. MENU: Strawberry bulldogs, classic cali tacos (panco crusted cod), guac, baja street corn and of course 3+ more strawberry bulldogs Worth the wait (which is usually because the food is so good) and hope there are more locations to come...maybe a VW van food truck right outside of my office?! Positives: Guacamole and chips - BEST i've ever had! Fresh, delicious, chunky. Tacos are small but delicious and CHEAP. Server was honest and told us two tacos are generally enough to fill people up. At about $3 per taco, that's not bad. The atmosphere here is very nice. Dark but not too dark and good for families or dates. Negatives: The banana chocolate empanada goes down in my book as the single WORST dessert i've ever had in my life. It was basically a sugar powdered shell containing blackened, melted bananas. I ordered my food through grub hub and I was impressed by how fast my delivery arrived . I got the mission bay burrito with shrimp and Mexican street corn . The mission bay burrito was your typical burrito , overstuffed with rice and beans . However , the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the portion was just right . The corn was very tender and juicy but the amount of cotija cheese was overpowering and I could hardly taste any spice . I would definitely order from here again and most definitely pay a visit . Came here for dinner with two of my girlfriends on a week night. We ordered margaritas and they were great. Ordered the naked burrito which was good, but not sure if it was worth the amount spent on it. If you wanted a naked burrito (burrito bowl) they charged you $1 more which made no sense since there isn't a tortilla anymore lol. They also charge you for any meat added on ($4 extra). It's expensive here for a "taco joint". I'd rather head to Taco Azteca on Victory which is authentic tacos and way cheaper. read more

My only complaint is when we were seated, our waiter asked if he could start us off with some chips and guac. I'm very surprised by some of the reviews because my boyfriend and I LOVE this place, so does his family and friends! I usually go to the one in bay ridge but lately we've been going to the staten island location more since he lives close by. We always get seated right away and they always take good care of us. We have never had an issue with any of their tacos or any food orders in general. We have been ordering more frequently now (at least 3-4 times a week) that we're cooped up inside due to the coronavirus, and I am pleased to say they are taking EXCELLENT PRECAUTIONS. All of the staff is wearing gloves, and when you go inside to pick up the food and sign the receipt they have two separate pen cups (one for new pens and one for used pens). They don't let the patrons cross past a certain barrier to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Other than their to-go margaritas being way too weak for the price... i have no complaints about this place. We love hobrah. read more

Amazing!! I catered food from them yesterday for my staff...Kevin and his crew went above and beyond. They really thought of everything. Kevin knew it would be about an hour from when I pickup the food to when my staff would be able to eat it, so he spoke with the chef to make sure everything would stay fresh and be hot so they could fully enjoy it. And enjoy it they did! It was so nice to see and especially during this time. Definitely going to be ordering from them again for my staff and myself and I would highly recommend to any employer trying to do something nice for their employees...they will appreciate it! read more

First I'd like to say we do like this place and When its good we enjoy it very much. They have the best tacos that I've found on the island. I've had every one they make. Nice empanadas, drinks, burritos, corn! I find all the food to be tasty and the place is cool. The problem seems to be with consistency. One time we'll get the nachos and they are fantastic. The next time it looked like a million little nacho pieces just crumbled under some melted cheese. We had to eat it with a fork. I would have never sent that out to a table! Another time we ordered to go and they had no cheese at all? I know they use cardboard boxes to go but that means you need to melt the cheese on the nachos using a sizzle plate and then transfer the food into the box (Hint) As a matter of fact when we order to go usually our order is wrong. Sorry to say this but our last 3 to go orders weren't right. I don't know if it's too loud in there Or what it may be? I guess we needed to double check it more. Other than that the service is usually pretty good. I will say once again we enjoy this place very much. Went out for a date night with my wife and nothing went right. Walked into the place and there was no AC on a 97 degree day. We ordered and my wife's order was wrong. My plate was a mess, and the tacos were falling a part. I couldnt even pick then up. The little millenials that they hire have no clue what they are doing. Instead of taking both plates away until they could figure out how to get the order right, i was forced to eat while my wife waited another 20 minutes after watching me eat, This is unacceptable. If you looking for a place to hang or have a few tacos and dessert this it the place . It is very loud so my server had a hard time getting there stuff I wanted , I ask for a Effen good mojito and she gave me a cumber mojito .
