I walked in looking for some RC car parts and am visiting out of town. The first impressions of the store were great. Nice train display and a lot of everything. Biggest hobbytown I've seen. Made my way to the RC section and was "helped" by an older gray bearded gentleman that was in dire need of fingernail clippers who was intent on convincing me I needed a crawler motor for a buggy (because that's what they had in stock and I got the impression he must be on a comission structure). He was also just kind of rude in our interactions and basically made me want to just go shop at Amain for the lower prices and not have to deal with his attitude or lack of hygiene. read more

Things seem to be normal retail price. They have a whole lot of hobby stuff, seems to be especially Gundam/similar and model trains. Not a lot of D&D stuff as a heads up if anyone else was going there for this purpose. The employees were all around talking to and helping people, they are very friendly, passionate, and knowledgable. And happy to help. Lots of toys, probably a good place to do gift shopping. Other customers were strangely kinda rude but of course, that isn't Hobbytown's fault. Bathrooms not particularly accessible as a warning. There is seating in the card gaming area. read more

An official GUNPLA and GUNDAM Super Store. My son, whose big into GUNPLA, has certified this store to carry the latest, most greatest and awesomest Gunpla on the eastern seaboard. The fact that he would roam the isle for a whole hour is proof that there is so many kits, he had a hard time picking the ones he wanted. In addition to the new and rare kits, they also announce kits arrivals via their FB page. Needless to say, we were here after learning of a new drop of kits. This is gunpla paradise. Don't know anything about Gunpla, but, you need to get the best one as a gift. No problem here. They have these dudes that roam the isle, seeking to help people. They know everything about these kits, down to the serial number, release date, and also the back story on these things. Its amazing. read more

Back at Christmas 2023, I decided to try out a new hobby- WWII scale models. So I ordered a German tank and some soldiers on Amazon, and left them on the kitchen table before my wife & I drove to Marietta to spend Christmas with her family. Had a great holiday and on our way out of town, I saw Hobby Town and whipped the truck in to check it out. I'm really glad I did, because I left with all the tools and paints I needed to get started with my new hobby. The staff was extremely helpful and engaging, and the guy was so knowledgeable and friendly, I could have talked to him all day. Ever since, every time we come to visit Kat's parents, I come up with an excuse to stop in and always leave with something lol. The store offers much more than WW2 planes & armor, there's puzzles, remote control cars, model trains, board games, tons & tons of stuff. Even if you're not pursuing a hobby, it's still a cool store to go check out. They have an insane sized model train diorama in front of the store that kids love to look at. read more

I wasn't sure what I was looking for but found something and hope they like it. It was my first time in the store and I was surprised to see how many Japanese imported model kits were here. Towards the center of the store is a 6 ft tall gundam RX 78. Behind it were aisles of Bandai model kits. Hobby town is one of those oddly specific store that adds character to a town or commercial area. It's a store I would go out of my way for to check something out. read more

This is an amazing hobby store for many different reasons. There are specific employees that my entire and extended family go to for their knowledge, care, and professionalism. We have seen many other families also enjoy their knowledge and care when searching for the right model, toy, game, etc. Regarding previous reviews however, I do not walk behind counters when I'm not supposed to be behind those counters, and I made wearing a mask work even when it was uncomfortable and personally inconvenient because I didn't mind it. If I had a disability that prevented me from wearing any type of mask, I'd have to consider whether I would be able to manage it while also honoring others who are particularly encumbered by their own disabilities that make them vulnerable to airborne diseases. It's not been easy for many in those boats, and they each have to navigate their choices with their disabilities. I cannot judge the enforcement of something like disease prevention where the stakes are so high. All that being now said, I have started building Gundams and have taken on more complicated model building specifically because of the superior, generous support and knowledge-sharing by our favorite floor personnel. My brother, a master modeler, has also found their insights and guidance helpful, and with that help, was able to find a place for my nephews to develop their own modeling interests and skills and also participate in model competitions. Myself, as a board game teacher for various companies, I find their game room to be welcoming and often with plenty of space to pull a game to play and learn it with or teach it to my family. Whether you share these interests or if you just like interesting places to find neat gifts or explore new hobbies, this store in particular can help you find a great deal and the answers you need. read more

Our first trip there was to get our 11 year old an RC truck that would not break a tie rod end every time he took it out. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They went over the options for just under an hour with us. The place had everything though. We have been those multiple times now and are never disappointed. read more

I was very disheartened today to witness a store manager named Manny verbally abuse and yell at a customer because she could not wear a mask due to a disability. There were several other shoppers in the store without masks that were not confronted. The lady seemed embarrassed and very polite and the unprofessionalism was totally uncalled for. I literally heard this "Manny" guy tell her husband who had an Air Force Veteran hat on that he was also in the Air Force and was now disgusted and ashamed since he met these customers. Way over the line. I frequent this store often for my grandsons who love Gundam models but I will buy online in the future. read more

Having two boys it was certain that we would and up here at some point. My youngest son fell in love with RC Cars. We immediately brought him to Hobbytown. My husband was in heaven! So many cool things here! Trains were a huge part of the love! Once he got over that he saw the awesome RC part of the store. We bought a RC car for our son which was way above the price range that I was comfortable with, although was the best. Now having the car for over a month I see that it was the right choice. They have been great when any little thing went wrong. My son is so very happy with the purchase. We will be back for sure! read more

My 4 year old son BEGS me to take him here. They have a wonderful play area with Thomas trains and Chuggington trains. Their selection of the aforementioned toys is amazing. The prices can be beat by online retailers of course, but I am a fan of the play area. There is a play kitchen now too, stocked with wooden food. The bathrooms have lower toilets that are easier for kids, and the model train in the lobby has buttons for the kids to push and platforms for them to stand on for a better view. I'm a big fan. Oh, FYI, don't bring in food or drinks of any kind. There are signs all over the place. read more

Not to be confused with Hobby Lobby, Hobbytown USA is a great place to shop for cool toys and games, both for adult kids and, I suppose, for regular kids. I have no experience with the latter. They have a large selection of plastic models, R/C, jigsaw puzzles, model rockets, various board games, miniature games and a lot else, including supplies. Being near my former place of work, I've come here many times to see what's in stock, often buying something. I've been thinking of buying an R/C plane and if I do, I'll probably get it here. They seem to have a few beginner sets in stock. After destroying a couple of those first (hopefully in spectacular fashion), I'll move up to the cooler stuff. That's my plan, anyway. Very nice people. I'm not one to need a whole lot of attention from the staff in order to find what I want, but I do get asked if I need help each time I come in to Hobbytown. And just as importantly, I only get asked once or twice. I can get annoyed if constantly bothered by store employees. That doesn't happen here. Recommended. read more

YO this place is HUUUUuuuuge! Holy cow I've never been in a hobby store this big. Way cool and didn't even look at half of it! Staff was helpful even with it being thirty minutes before they closed. Huge inventory and a good selection of different hobby types. We brought our grandson to the toddler section to shop for birthday gifts. He's a fan of the wooden Brio and Thomas sets and they had lots to choose from. The prices seemed on par for a store-front establishment, which seems reasonable for the advantage of seeing and examining the merchandise in person. My dad loves this store so I've been going since I was really little. It's super clean and the staff is super helpful and smart! Especially the guy with the mustache he's my favorite!!! He knows so much and is always very nice! They have a super good selection of toys and games and such! Overpriced. Front counter check out is staffed with RUDE, untrained, millennials who are too busy on their smart phones to attend to customers. Everything is overpriced when compared to identical items online. Staff seem poorly trained (if all) like they are "doing you a favor" when assisting you. Considered a 4* review, but prices came down on several items recently to make them just about competitive even with Amazon, so that deserves the extra star. They have a nice selection of paints, tools, models, just about everything you'd want in a hobby shop. What they don't have, they can order - though you may be better off on a lot of things ordering them yourself. This Hobbytown and the Buford store have pretty dramatically different stocks, so even if you live closer to one or the other, it might be worth checking out both. Buford has a lot smaller selection, but some harder to find items. The Columbus/Phenix City store also has a dramatically different stock, and again some hard to find items you can't get at either of these stores, or even Amazon. read more

If I could rate the store lower I would. We purchased an expensive train set from them and accessories. One of the accessories was a two piece train car which was too big for our track. No problem right? Just run it back to the store. The teenager at the register sneered at the box. The box was beat up when we bought it. I passed it off to being a teenager. They have attitudes sometimes. She called for the train department manager. I thought ok good an adult is coming. Teenager girl said look at the box. They acted like it was a federal offense. Box wasn't stained or torn ...just not crisp looking. Again this was exactly how it looked when we bought it yesterday. Train manager wouldn't even talk to me or even look at me. Like I wasn't worthy of his time. He was the one who sold it to me. Yes all happy to take money but try to return something and they won't even look at you. So they call Mike. His name tag said he was the owner. I thought this would be good since owners usually want repeat happy customers. Apparently Mike doesn't care how customers are treated. He kind of snorted well I can tell you this isn't going to happen. He pulled out the train which was still wrapped in plastic and fit perfectly into the original packaging. The whole time I was trying to talk to him he was muttering something I could not understand. He did offer me a store credit which I refused because I will never step foot in that place again. They think too highly of themselves. And one thing I know "pride comes before a fall". That comes from a very reliable source. Mike will find that his little store that is ill kept and dated is no match for Amazon who has a great return policy. Locally if it is trains you want try Blue Ox Trains in Alpharetta. read more

My online shopping experience was frustrating at best, couldn't even make it trough checkout every time I tried to pay with my confirmed account with paypal it would say my order could not be shipped to some store in KY? So I tried to contact customer service no one would answer. After four attempts I gave up and went to Amain hobbies online and had zero problems placing my order even had a question about an item and customer service answered immediately and were very helpful! I didn't expect to be the first to review Hobbytown USA. I feel supremely underqualified, because there is really no finer hobby store in all the land (except, of course, their other 150+ locations). THIS location is kind of special. Before AMC built their colossal 24 theater megaplex, they were the AMC 8 and they were housed in a strip shopping center off of Barrett Pkwy. When they vacated, Hobbytown moved in. If you can imagine a hobby store that could encompass the space of 8 movie theaters, then you can begin to appreciate this gem. They have your trains (BRIO and Thomas for the little ones, Lionel and many others), radio controlled (or RC) airplanes, model rockets, slot cars, etc. All of that is super cool, of course, but I have to admit, I covet the beautiful art supplies and massive toy section. If you have a kid that loves science and space (like I do), then make haste to Hobby Lobby to check out their microscopes, telescopes, experiment kits, and acres of cool stuff (that's the technical term, I'm sure). Not knocking ToysRUs, but my kids would rather go to Hobbytown any day, and since Hub and I are toy lovers/collectors at heart, they won't get much argument out of us! read more

I've been all over the world and I have to say that this is by far the biggest and best hobby shop I have ever been to. The place is HUGE at something like 30,000 sq ft. It looks like it used to be an old movie theater judging by layout of the place. While most hobby shops have areas that they specialize in, say RC instead of plastic models, this place has everything. When I say EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING. I tend to be a pretty hardcore armor and aircraft modeler and there are MANY manufacturers that you can only usually find online, but they actually have right there on the shelf. This is true whether it is ships, cars, armor, aircraft , you name it. Radio Control has a large room all to itself. Again, cars, boats, planes, even some armor, it's all there. Stuff from the simplest entry level ready to go right out of the box types to every conceivable part on the walls that you could make your own vehicle just from their spare parts section. Slot cars, die cast cars, trains, rockets, are all there in the same strength as he other areas I described. There is a MASSIVE amount of magazine and reference books - literally the largest I have ever seen. The paint and tools section is actually probably my favorite part as there is I have yet to need something that they don't normally stock. Again, the harder to find manufacturers like Vallejo and Gunze Sangyo and Alcad are here as, of course, all the ones from Testors and Tamiya that you would expect. There are also TONS of activity areas for science projects, doll houses, robots (yes, seriously) kites, the list is endless and it's the only place I have ever seen where an adult can take a kid of just about any age and they BOTH walk out the door with something. Prices are almost without exception as cheap as you have ever seen. I have to admit that I actually went looking for things expecting to find at least one area that was overpriced, but I couldn't find even one. I was legitimately surprised and have gone back repeatedly for this reason alone! Any gripes I have ever read about in other reviews have not held true and the staff was very friendly and helpful (what a concept!) but also knew there stuff. The 19 year old kid who asked me for help ended up having a 15 minute conversation with me about WWI and WWII aircraft and actually really knew the info. Holy cow, a kid that READS about history for pleasure! I give this place 5 Stars because they flat-out earned em! Well done!!! read more

This is a wonderful place to bring children. The place is HUGE and has a ton of fun things to choose from. However, a word of warning, I wouldn't trust my RC car with their folks in that department ever again. Service was poor (understaffing was likely a big part of this), no contact from them whatsoever, and the repair was done haphazardly with glue instead of replacement parts which would have only cost a couple bucks. I highly recommend the Duluth location, they are knowledgeable, friendly, and best of all, communicative! read more

From the start let me say that I am reviewing the store from the standpoint of miniature wargaming. This store has a huge selection of all kinds of hobbies not just what I'm interested in. It's great to have a local store when you can come and actually look at the product and that even have a play area where they hold periodic tournaments to let you can see other people's armies as well as show off your own. They have a wide selection of different games and companies for miniature war-gaming. However they have a problem with people like me who don't live in the area and have to drive to their store. The problem they have is pricing. One of the games I'm interested in is the games workshop miniatures. They usually have a good selection. However, their prices are never discounted and there are other stores in the area that do discount these models. Plus there are many places on the web to find discounts. If I lived in the area the fact that they have some tournaments might bring me here but their customer service is only adequate. Other stores have more games more often, and stay open late into the night for those of us who work. Another gaming system that I have become interested in in the last few months is called Dust tactics. I will say that HobbyTown is the only store in the area I found that still carries this gaming system, but again their prices are too high. I can go to the web any day and find the same miniatures for as much as one dollar off for the small items to $10 off for the larger items. And that includes shipping. To overcome this disadvantage HobbyTown would need to have exceptional customer service. Their customer service is only adequate. It's no better than any store you go to in the mall. With a review like this you may wonder why I still gave them three stars. The fact is I really like having local game stores. However I worry that with the web the only way such games stores will survive is to have more exceptional customer service. Right now I'm not seeing that at Hobby town so I will be carrying my business to the other local stores that do or to the web. Before HobbyTown is adversely affected by this I hope they change. read more

WOW! Thats the first impression you'll get once you walk into this Hobbytown location. It's HUGE!! Probably the best hobby store around these parts. (even though it is in Kennesaw and is quite the drive for me) I go here for the massive paint selection and hobby supplies! It's insane. I build gundam model kits, and it's so great to speak with employees who actually know their stuff! Their staff is really great and are very knowledgable about various hobbies, let alone passionate about them when they talk about it! This location is great got all sorts of hobbies, whether it's RC cars, trains, gundam kits, or even TCG, such as Magic The Gathering. If you have a hobby, I really suggest making a stop by here. You'll be in awe even if you don't need or intend to buy anything, a visit will be sure to change your mind lol read more
