I purchased aProboat Recoil for Father's Day gift. Husband used it on a pond for less than 10 minutes before the drive shaft melted onto tubing, locking up propeller. Would have been nice if they would have put note in box rec oiling prior to use. Wasn't a warranty issue and costs us $50 to have fixed by local hobby town. On the 28th of June, I took my Phantom 3 Advanced to Atlanta Hobby to determine what went wrong on a firmware update I had performed the day before. The message on the drone USB card said the update was successful. However, when powered up all it would do is emit alternating beeps. Greg Ledford was in the repair section of the store and dropped what he was doing to take a look at my drone. In about 15 minutes he had it fixed and explained what had happened. In addition, he patiently answered several questions that had been bugging me about drones. I was very impressed with his patience as well as professionalism. After this positive experience, I plan on taking one of their 2 day drone classes when the summer heat dissipates a bit...maybe in October. read more

I really wanted to shop locally and I was really happy to see that there was one drone place in my state. Im back to the internet now for my drone needs after a few visits to this place. I have been to this place 4 times in the last 3 months. It's an hours drive. When you call someone will answer and then they never know the answer to anything so they have to ask someone else. I overlooked that and just went there in person. I have to say that the people there were very friendly and the store has on old timey hobby shop feel to it. However, each time I went there to buy something they ended up having some reason why they didn't have this or that. "This will be in next Friday" "we just ran out of those", etc... I fly drones and this place has drones so I was willing to put up with a lot. I took my Phantom 2 Vision + there for some service and said I didn't know what was wrong with it. 3 weeks later they say it's ready so I go to pick it up and there was nothing wrong with it, just needed an IMU calibration...$145. I paid it wondering why they would charge so much to do nothing. Anyway, I asked them to fix it so I let that go also. On my fourth visit-(today), each of which they had no idea who I was even after I had spent over $4000 in their store and spent time being friendly and chatty to each employee for several minutes, I was there to buy a replacement Phantom 3 Pro. They brought one out and said it had been opened "for inspection" but was till brand new and that this was the only one they had in stock. The box looked ratty and it had obviously been opened several times, maybe a store demo or something. It was the only one they had so I figured okay, Ill still buy it. I asked if they would give a 10% discount since it had obviously been handled a lot and opened several times. The guy had to go ask the "sales manager" and then came back and said "no" the sales manager won't discount it. This was exactly like being in one of those car dealers where they make the sales manager the bad guy and just have the salesman go back and forth between you and the manager. I figured, okay these things are popular, Im sure it's okay. I took out the RC controller and tried to turn it on, it would not turn on. The guy said it was because it was out of charge, which I knew was unlikely. I turned it over and it had scuff marks on the bottom corner and finger gunk all over the gripping areas. I showed him where it had obviously been flown several times and dropped at least once. I asked him for a new controller if I am paying full retail price. He said he couldn't do anything and he would have to go "ask the sales manager" again. The manager came out and I asked him point blank why he had lied to me about the drone only being "opened for inspection". He said that it had been purchased by an internet customer, shipped out and returned by that customer. So, they were obviously lying about the condition and trying to sell me a very used P3P for full retail. The sales manager offered a $40 discount on the drone ( I also was buying a case and 2 extra batteries for a total of $1998). I told him no thanks and left the store after a full refund. Why all the lying? I would have bought it anyway for a 10% discount as a used floor model. The had already made the profit from selling it once before and probably charged the 30% restocking fee, why lie just to make another $100 on a regular customer with excess spending money and a drone habit? I cant tell you difficult it was for anyone to screw up me going in there and buying that drone but these guys found a way to do it. Im sure they couldn't care less about the outright dishonesty they had displayed because there will be 100 people behind me buying these drones and I really didn't matter. I don't get upset or bitchy with retailers. I just leave and never come back followed by Yelping the experience. These people lost at least another $10,000 in sales from me to save a 10% discount on a beat up Phantom 3 Pro that they cant honestly sell as new in the condition it was in. With Best Buy now selling these in bulk, I cant see how this place survives with these sorts of shenanigans. Oh, by the way, being an "authorized DJI reseller" means absolutely nothing if you were wondering. They cannot repair DJI products under warranty without sending them back to DJI just like you or I would without them. They are happy to charge you to repair your 2 week old drone but you must go through DJI for any warranty work. I say, yes, it's convenient to be able to go and look at something before you buy it but the treatment at this store was so bad that I will go to the internet for my drone needs from now on. As long as your poring money into their registers everything is great. As soon as they have to do something to stand behind a sale or maybe lose a penny or two to keep a customer...your satisfaction is irrelevant. read more

I am writing my first yelp in hopes that anyone considering doing business with Atlanta Hobby will examine other options. The information from their website was incorrect and the specs of the product were misrepresented. I was treated very well at first and told by Mitch that Atlanta Hobby would facilitate a refund as I was inside the 14 day refund window. I was then slow played as they stalled, and on the 31st day, 1 day after I could no longer charge back the credit card purchase, they called and told me my issue (their misrepresented specs), wasn't their problem or responsibility. On the 31st day they went from friendly and helpful to completely impudent and discourteous. I can't remember ever dealing with a more obtuse, condescending person than the owner Cliff Whitney. Credit Card Company has issued a refund outside of their 30 day policy! Thanks for nothing Cliff & Atlanta Hobby! read more

I order from Atlanta Hobby because I they are local. I get free shipping, yes, but I also pay sales tax so it roughly equals out. I have noticed over time that their 'live' online inventory is rather poor. Very often I order things, while paying attention to whether it is in stock, and then receive the shipment with items listed as backordered. Over time I have learned that if I really need something, I should order from some place else. As it happens, this week I did not listen to my own advice. I ordered something that was listed in stock, and the invoice arrived days later as backordered. True, they don't charge me until they actually ship my order, but that really isn't the point. So I wrote them with this complaint, also complaining that it took days to fill the order, when another order with them placed the same weekend was shipped monday morning. I laid out my complaint just as I did here, this was the response "These blades have not been in stock in several weeks Brian but were received today and all of our backorders have shipped. Please refuse the shipment if you do not want them. O will notice your payment was active today as we never bill till we ship." I think that this is a very poor way to manage a customer's complaint. First, it didn't begin to address the real problem that I have with ordering from them, specifically that I've learned NOT to order from them if I really need something. Then I was told that if I didn't want the item anymore, I could just refuse the shipment. None of this was helpful, and none of this actually demonstrated that Atlanta Hobby cared a bit about customer service. I will likely order from eBay or Horizon Hobby; at least then I can be confident in the order. read more

Just OK.. This is a big shop but doesn't seem to have much. Seems to be set up well for newbies getting into the hobby but if you are deep into the hobby this store doesnt have what you need. Im talking about dubro products, dave brown, decent selection of carbon fiber rods, selection of control arms,connectors, prop spinners, nitro stuff, you won't find much of this at ATL hobby. A true hobby store. They'll talk to you when they get around to it. They'll help when they feel like it. If you walk in and everyone is piled up in the back with nobody behind the counter, don't expect any help at all. Today was the third and final time I've walked out of that store without being talked to. Not even a "hi", or a "we'll be right with you." I know they saw me, they knew I was there, but they didn't care. I'm impressed they don't need customers. They must make a killing to behave that way and since they don't seem to want or need my business, I'll never be back. Mail ordered some parts from this place, only to be ripped off on the shipping and have my carbon fiber ruined due to improper packaging. Atlanta Hobby charged me $13.34 for "UPS Ground" shipping, only to switch it behind my back to 1st class US Postal Service mail. Atlanta Hobby pocketed the difference in shipping costs. To add insult to injury, the package arrived with insufficient postage and I had to pay another $1.53 to get the package from the post office. Upon receiving the package, the 40 inch long carbon fiber strips I had ordered were all twisted up inside a tiny box the size of a paperback book - ruined! After dealing with Cliff Whitney's crass attitude over the phone, I came away with the impression that this is their standard operating procedure. Have shopped in person once and phone/web three times. No problems with product quality or packing. When desired LiPo was out of stock got a higher C battery for the same price. You're not working with a Tower or Horizon operation. The people who answer the phone are usually looking at the product that they are going to send you. read more

My DJI Inspire took a dive into a pond. I thought that my screw up was going to be very expensive. Atlanta Hobby could have really taken advantage of me but they didn't. Surprisingly, all I needed was a $1.50 connector, one hour of labor and I was back in business. It's really refreshing to do business with someone who is honest.
