Very helpful , they knew a lot about traxxis and other brands of RC cars. Also , very helpful finding the tool I needed for my drive shaft.

This is in my view the best hobby shop in Gwinnett county. I assumed they were just another RC shop, but that was not correct. I suffer from severe MTS (Model Train Syndrome) but do not do anything Lionel because of their high prices and dodgy quality, which I assume will only get worse with MTH going out of business. B&B AFAIK has no Lionel equipment - at all. They do have a small selection of HO and N scale equipment, most of which seems to be of decent quality and at a reasonable price. Let's face it, everyone has to make a living and selling retail items at below cost is not going to help. So kudos to B&B for not really taking the Mickey and over charging for the train products - I'm pretty sure that is not a major profit center for their store. However, I got 2 Bowser Ore cars at a very reasonable price - both will need work to get them into good running condition, but that is what I look for. I almost never buy new unless it is small items - for engines and cars I look for the used stuff - but then I'm neither a foamer (MTS people will know what I am talking about) nor a rivet counter. I love stuff that needs work and takes some time to get into the condition I want it in which is used, but not abused, for my home short line RR. I also bought several other items and had fun bantering with the owner who put up with my nonsense very well and threw a few conversational hooks of her own into the exchange. She is simply delightful. Why Larry S. had a problem with her I will never know, maybe she was having a stressful day, which it seems Larry has never had. Or maybe Larry is sort of a yuppie - we do remember what those are, right? The store is well stocked for scratch building supplies, unlike store L.S. (you should be able to figure out which shop that is, near a Kroger...) and has a pretty good supply of paints and related items. I found everything I wanted and actually spent more than I had intended as the store has more of the core hobby stuff. And talk about organization! It is so easy to find things in this store that I nearly bankrupted my wife, who keeps me in poverty because she loves me. Or at least that is what I've been told. ;) Yes, I did have to wait a while to get the attention from the owner that I so richly deserve, because I am very very special. If you believe that I have things I'd like to sell to you. Unusual items. Might be illegal.... What I did find was supplies very much to my liking, which were found in short order by man who has been caught looking for his keys which were in his hand, including stuff that I will have to wait to buy later as I had already blown my Grinch like budget. I wandered around and found thing after thing that I could not leave the store without. I spent more money in one go than I usually spend in a month. Sort of the like feeling I had after first watching "The Life of Brian" - if you're not a Monty Python fan then feel free to ignore my review. When the owner got finished with the earlier customer she got around to me and we had a great conversation and she told me things about the equipment I was buying that I usually do not notice until the day after I've bought it. Remember I have severe MTS and will not apologize for it. She did take time to advise a young man on a large RC car he wanted to buy, she told him he was holding only the box with the cellophane wrapper still on it. She told him the real item was behind the main counter. I told the young man the box was free but the plastic wrapping was going to cost him some real money. She then redirected him to a less expensive option, the one he had in hand would have cost just under $1000 ,all bits and bobs included. I told him to try model trains as he would save money - but the younger generation seems to want everything ready built because they no longer know how to scratch build much of anything. OK, that is being mean and there are some very good young modelers and RC people that can beat me in a heart beat, dammit. But the trend is to use out of the box. Finally, it should be noted that the shop charges something like 3% for using a credit card. Get over it and either bring cash or a check book. It is not that hard to do that. The credit card companies are basically a giant mafia like industry that way over charges for what they do, and I know as I worked in the IT department of one and what costs them a few fractions of a cent to process they charge about 3% to the store for the pleasure of using them as a middleman. That used to be called extortion. I don't see why the store should be charged for your convenience. They are closed Sunday and Monday, so if you're planning a trip there keep that in mind. My advice would be to take along your check book and just wander in and see if there is anything that suits your needs and budget. If so, buy something. If not, I think there is a Home Brew store next door where you might find something more to your taste. :) Cheers! read more

This is a pretty intense experience. If you've never been in a hobby shop, you might imagine it to be a wondrous place with toy trains running cheerfully throughout the store and model planes patrolling overhead and what have you. This place is not exactly like that. Honestly, it's a little dingy. There's some severely sun-damaged items on the shelves, that have clearly been there a while. That being said, they have pretty much everything you'd ever need for a remote controlled car or airplane, if you're into the big gas-powered deals, which I'm not. They also sell CB radio equipment and those little airplanes made out of beer cans, if either of those are your thing. I mainly swung through there because they're one of a handful of places on this end of town that carry Tamiya model paints, and I was getting a little low. They had a remarkably impressive selection of paints, brushes, and related gadgets, which makes sense, I guess, given that they had several long aisles full of model cars, planes, tanks and such. Their website touts down-home friendly service, although when I was there, there seemed to be exactly one employee hanging out, a fairly indifferent teenaged boy who asked me exactly once if I needed any help, and then kind of obviously kept an eye on me as I wandered around the store, as if I was going to pocket something. (Then again, given that a single bottle of paint runs between 3 and 5 bucks, I was probably better off filching a few.) Given that I was there for exactly one thing, model paint, it probably wasn't really worth the drive - if there was a decent Hobbytown USA or similar within 20 minutes of Decatur, I'd be there instead (assuming they sold Tamiya or Games Workshop paints, that is). I stopped by B & B Hobby Shop on 27 August 2020 to purchase either a Traxxas Revo 3.3 Nitro truck or a Traxxas E-Revo, charger and batteries. The woman with whom I spoke appeared to be annoyed and distracted. She was unwilling to or unable to answer questions about the 2 models and unbelieving when I answered yes to her question about my having prior experience with nitro powered RC models. I say unbelieving because she asked the question multiple times. She was attempting to find the 2 models in a Traxxas catalog before she walked away to converse with a man who had been washing windows in an adjacent shop. After having been made to feel unwelcomed and then abandoned, I left the shop. To her credit, she allowed me to keep the catalog. read more

Sent a first (and last) time paying customer packing. When I drove an hour round trip on $5 worth of gas and passed two Hobby Lobbys who had what I needed for half the price, I was looking for a new business relationship. When they sent me away empty handed because they wouldn't let me make a $9 purchase on my credit/debit card... I'm still looking for a new relationship, but elsewhere. I can even understand having a preferred minimum. But there are myriad better ways to handle it. Like maybe suggesting it for next time, or suggesting a complementary purchase - not just grab the item off the counter and send the customer to the competitor. "Fees are killin' us". What a great shop. They have a little bit of everything for hobbyists. Their selection of Plastic Model Kits is outstanding. The have older harder to find kits, newer kits and a nice selection of Aircraft, Cars and Trucks as well as Military Vehicles in all scales. The next thing I loved was the selection of acrylic and enamel model paints brushes and building supplies. The folks in the store are helpful and knowledgeable and the environment clean and spacious in a lot with plenty of parking in a safe environment. The prices are outstanding and honestly on the low side of any hobby shops I visited in the past. I only purchase Model kits but the store has many other products for interests such as R/C and Scales Trains. I highly recommend this shop as it brings me back to an era when hobby shops we loaded with options rather than the static feel of the chain stores........ read more

This place is amazing, they just moved from snellville to Grayson almost 10 miles away from their old spot into such a better place to be. Once you go in you are so overwhelmed with so much cool stuff they have, cars, boats (electric & nitro powered) planes, dye cast models even the old wooden planes you can build and also the styrofoam planes I use to play with when I was a little kid. You should definitely visit this place to pick up a new or better hobby no kidding I've been dealing with this sweet lady for years buying parts for my electric car or truck and always has reasonable prices, and if you don't meet the dog princess you for sure did not complete the experience at B&B Hobby Shop. read more

Great store. First went as a kid and was pleased to see it's still there. Good selection of woodland scenics products and ho scale accessories. Limited n scale selection, but that is too be expected due to the popularity of the larger scales. Friendly staff. Glad to see they are still around and I wish them the best. Beware! The lady in the shop really sells up all the rc cars. I purchased a car paid $1000 for everything went with all highend bc that's what she recommended. Got it home and out of box ran for only 2hrs, she kept it for 2wks to fix and couldn't fix the problem. I got tired of waiting, I picked it up and sent it off to the manufacturer. She had replaced the servos which was still bad, makes me think I got bad ones from her not new. She stated that the transmission was bad, which was not. I will never purchase another rc car nor do I recommend this business. She conderdicks what she says after she makes a sell. She doesn't stand in behind what she sells. read more

The customer service was GREAT!! My 7 year old son has moved from Thomas trains to model trains. We knew nothing about model trains and she helped us get what we needed to get started. We went back the next week to purchase more items. we were asked how we liked the new train. My son stated it would be nice if the wheels stayed on. she informed us that the wheels should stay on the train and it may be something wrong. It was and she glady helped us return the engine to Bachman to have it fixed. (we sent it to company because there were no other steam engines in store and we really wanted this one). So far we have been customers for a month. And the service has been good. read more

Bought my first real Heli there. Owner was great help and even took time to unpack the helicopter , put in the batteries, test it out, and even give flying lessons. The prices were In line with online sites once shipping was included but the lessons were worth more. Once I master the small Heli I will be back for a larger one. read more

What a wonderful experience. When I walked into the store, there were 4 or 5 other people in there being helped, but I was immediately greeted with a friendly 'Hello, can I help you?'. I said that I wanted to just look, but would probably need help a little later. She (Kimbery) helped the other people and when they had left, came over and asked if I needed help now, which I did. I explained that I was basically looking for information on Model Trains and was not yet ready to buy. She then proceeded to spend a good half hour of her time showing me different trains, explaining pros and cons, and pointing out books and reference materials; all the while knowing that I had no intentions of buying a train that day. I found her very knowlegable and she was VERY helpful to me. She had to step away a couple times to help other customers, but always returned to offer more help. The store is nice and neat, well lit, and well organized. Overall, I had a great experience and will definitely return for future hobby needs. Don't let the few negative reviews, scare you away. I haven't been in town near stone mountain for over 20 years. And I haven't seen a hobby shop like this one probably in just as long of a time. I saw the word hobby shop from the street and told my girl, "sorry, we're going there. If that's a real hobby shop I'll be stunned. Because hobby lobby is not. That is arts and crafts." But u digress. When I went inside I was pleasantly surprised to find a true hobby shop and was greeted with a friendly face and a smile. The lady that was there was very helpful. I could just walk around in there reminiscing on models I used to build. Definitely shop here if you want friendly people. I usually don't write reviews, but I had a very nice experience today in the B & B Sales store. The young lady that helped me, I thought went out of her way to help me solve my problem. When I was ready to give up she came up with another way to solve my problem and we are not talking about lots of money, in fact she saved me quite a bit when she could have taken advantage of me. I've been going to this hobby shop since the early seventies. There was once a lot more shops of this kind in metro Atlanta, and there still are a few, but a lot of them closed thanks to all the big mail order houses. I would rather shop in person and give my dollars to the local economy, therefore, I feel I should support the local shops. All stores are different and have their own personalities. B & B Hobbies is a good store and carries a well rounded line of both static and flying model airplanes, RC cars, building supplies, games, a few toys, radios, engines, both nitro and electric ect ect. Do they carry everything ? NO ! No one does or can, but they are willing to order it for you and can get it in pretty quick. Do they have the lowest prices in the industry ? NO ! but their prices are fair and if you buy something that cost more than a couple dollars, they try to help you price wise. Are they helpful and courteous ? 99% of the time, but I also work in a retail shop and once in a while a customer may come in and act like a jerk and then it's hard to be nice, and sometimes our human nature takes over and the rude customer gets a taste of their own medicine. These guys seem to be the ones who get off posting negative reviews when the truth is they started it. It's just part of what happens in a retail store once in a while. B & B has good customer serrvice, so ignor comments by guys names Carl who won't show their last name or post their picture. B&B Hobbies is a good store and is worth supporting. You don't stay in business for 42 years by being bad, but don't take my word for it. Go see for yourself. It's a good Hobby Shop. read more
