(Okay, you called my bluff! Yes, we did.) Firstly, Center Diamond has a fabulous selection of fabrics and the prices are more reasonable than you'd expect. The fabric is sorted into themes and by color-- a feast for the senses! Maybe it's because I've spent most of my time at Joanns (R.I.P.) I was delightedly surprised that they carry flour sack towel fabric. It had never occurred to me to make my own kitchen towels! They have an extensive variety of tools and notions as well as fun vinyl decals to showcase one's sewing love. There's a great selection of patterns with finished samples for inspiration and several kits and a mahoosive selection of stackers, fat quarters, and jelly rolls. The staff was wonderful here! They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and fun. We bought a pattern and they even printed it out for us. My daughter and I can't wait to return! If you're a fabric crafter, do yourself a favor and stop into Center Diamond, you won't be disappointed!

Person in-person, Jane I believe that was her name, my husband called her Jane, then I stopped and told her that was my middle name! Was attentive, knowledgeable, helpful, offered suggestions, walked from one department to another, took her time with us (patiently, even stood there while I searched for photo of people I'm giving my 'flowers' to. I didn't feel rushed, stressed, and she understood my feeling, and was friendly. She wasn't the person, I talked to on the phone. I'm glad, because the lady on the phone felt like: it was a task/chore to answer my question, to her, she really shouldn't go from Bridal department to another department, to answer my question. I probably left there, if I didn't find something else, if I had to face her. Not deducting because of this. I'm just happy, that I got the fabric, the amount I needed, and the color I wanted! Jane gave me a special price, because it was the last yards from the bolt, it didn't have a price/label/tag, and I wasn't about to leave without that fabric. The owner, Zachariah, is a font of knowledge, with years of experience in the industry. Located in the Arbor Lodge neighborhood, Sewlarium is a bit of a drive for me, but I'm happy to support small businesses striving to serve their communities. This store is clean, well lighted, and surprisingly well-stocked for such a small footprint. I was able to find several yards of beautiful jersey material that I can't wait to make some shirts from. There is plenty of street parking in front of the business, and on the side street as well. If you're making a trek to visit this store from elsewhere in Portland like me, consider yourself in for a treat because there are some great restaurants and coffee shops in the area.
