I usually don't give anyone 5 stars, because we've traveled all over and knows what 5 star service is. This time, I will give this store 5 stars for: 1. Person in-person, Jane I believe that was her name, my husband called her Jane, then I stopped and told her that was my middle name! Was attentive, knowledgeable, helpful, offered suggestions, walked from one department to another, took her time with us (patiently, even stood there while I searched for photo of people I'm giving my 'flowers' to. I didn't feel rushed, stressed, and she understood my feeling, and was friendly. She wasn't the person, I talked to on the phone. I'm glad, because the lady on the phone felt like: it was a task/chore to answer my question, to her, she really shouldn't go from Bridal department to another department, to answer my question. I probably left there, if I didn't find something else, if I had to face her. Not deducting because of this. I'm just happy, that I got the fabric, the amount I needed, and the color I wanted! Jane gave me a special price, because it was the last yards from the bolt, it didn't have a price/label/tag, and I wasn't about to leave without that fabric. I wanted it yesterday, and I need it today, and it's a long drive back home, wasn't about to return. SO HAPPY! read more

I have frequented this store for just a few months and find not only great customer service, but an amazing variety of fabrics that I use for personal and business uses. I enjoy wearing silks (daily and formal), knits (fitness and daily wear), cottons (comfort, kids, crafts) and wools (cold weather). I'm a costume designer for several schools and have purchased synthetic leathers, feathers, tons of trim and notions (some difficult to find), furs, etc. I made about 6 denim aprons for last Christmas when they had denim on sale. There was even a large piece of leather that was perfect for repairing settee pillows. I also found the perfect quilted fabric to repair a jacket lining, water-proof fabrics for outdoor wear, furniture, and covers, etc. Yes, a bit pricey, but this is my one stop shopping/'go to' for needs. This is like going through a time warp zone. While when you know that the facade of the building is odd and dark, you still go in cause you know, your adventure is just about to start. I almost sneezed when I went in. I think it's the textiles that made me do it. It is overwhelmingly odd and it smelled old. It's like a time lapse from your life to your grandma. Your life of cotton and polyester shirts to veils and satin cords. You'll see your childhood printed fleece fabric to some plaids and prints to something weird and sequined. Combine that in a stretchy fabric and you are ready to party! They also have fabrics for serious people. Wools, pinstripes, plaids, and other suit patterns are present in the store. Not your entire scene? They have a small selection of denim and faux fur for you too. If you feel the need to wrap your house in fabric, they have drapes and upholstery section to cater to your need. I wasn't lucky enough to see the fabric and pattern that I like but you might! I think that this is not the store for me and what I like. They mostly have plain and floral pattern. I find it too stuffy and traditional. I tend to like it as it falls on still, being classic. As far as service is concerned, I did not have any as I went in like a hurricane and left unnoticed. This store is amazing and has so much choices even for difficult to find items. Both time I was there, had great help, and they were super friendly. Last time stopped there due specific fringe trim, their other store head or, so they had to bring them over for me to get it at this here... saved me drive to Milwaukee! Thank you. I have been these people's customer for 10 or more years until today. Today, I am done with this business and I hope you are too. Yesterday I bought a piece of remanent at this store. I took it home. I look at what I got and it has a HUGE hole in the middle of it. It really irked me. The next day I took it back to the store where I spoke to the "manager" who promptly reminded me that it was not returnable. I pointed to the hole. The store clerk, let's call her the "Karen", interjected by saying that it was her who wrapped that piece and it was marked with a hole. Well stupid me, I thought that there would a hole in the fabric. I didn't know that there was an 8" circle cut out in the exact center of the remanent, efectively rendering it useless. She said It was NOT their fault. I said that I am not returning but complaining. At this point, the direction of the conversation changed to about me being the "rude" one. The store manager suddenly claimed that I was being rude. The Karen, upon hearing that bit, exclaimed "I will call the police!" And, she did! Now being non-white, with a scruff on your face, dealing with a Karen is difficult. I know. So, I dropped that fabric there and scurried out. The most amazing thing about the people that work there, was the efficiency they pushed a customer's grievance under the rug by effectively eliminating them. I went there again to pick up the remanent. The Karen was already calling the police as she saw me and my daughter walk in. I found out from the manager that a no trespassing against me has been filed against me (boy, they waste NO time!). Sincerely and this is a true account by which I stand. read more

I was able to get a lot of specialty notions and fabrics all in one stop for making my halloween costume this year. I was a Playboy bunny, so I needed flexible steel boning, fusible web, strong no-stretch lining fabric, bias tape, polyester/silk fashion fabric, eyelets and an eyelet fastener, ribbons, and a couple other things. The women behind the counters were all extremely helpful pointing me to the different sections where I could find everything I needed. I recommend going for special occasion fabrics. Though it wasn't what I was there for, I took a look through their other apparel fabric sections and I wasn't *as* impressed with their selection of other types of apparel fabric. Your results may vary depending on what you're looking for and your personal style... and maybe by the day. From the other sections I got the vibe that this was kind of a TJ Maxx/Marshalls of a fabric store. You know, the kind of place where you never find what you're looking for, but if you're just there to look you'll likely find something you like that you didn't know you were looking for. read more

Their fabric is old and tired. It's hard to tell if it's new stock, stuff that's been there 18 years or not even first quality. They do have a lot of fabric though. I went there about 35 years ago and found it depressing. With Fabric Depot closing, thought I'd give Mill End another chance Still depressing and a feeling of "on the cheap" - No bags - not even paper - so if you buy silk on a rainy day you are out of luck. Or if you buy a dozen small items - no bag. They say they honor one Joann's coupon - but only at 20% no matter what Joann's coupon is. So they use someone else's advertising. They are supposed to give you a discount on supplies for classes taken the attached sewing center - but won't do it the day or so before. If your class starts early - you are out of luck with a discount - but most likely you'll get to the counter and the polite person who is there to check you out will tell you - "Oh- except for that item - our policies are laid out here - as she points to a counter full of rules and regulations under glass. The building is drab, poor lighting and the poor sales staff have to cut with dull scissors - it's painful to watch - not to mention what it does to the fabric. And, they are overpriced. While it is nice to actually feel the fabric before purchasing it for some projects - for most - online or a drive to another city is a good idea. I was charged $36.99 for fabric that I later found for about 50% less - same stuff. Oh - and severely understaffed. Buyer beware - and take your own bags. read more

Went in to purchase upholstery fabric at the Beaverton store. The store was virtually empty and there were 2 young people standing at the cash register while I wandered around. They never asked if I could use any help and I honestly did not know that they worked there. I finally sought the woman when she walked away from her conversation and I could see her badge. She took me over to the area of the material but knew nothing about any of it. She went to go get the other person she had been chatting with and he came over. Again, did not know anything about the material and said that most people come in knowing exactly what they want. Sooooo, I left. It was humiliating to be treated so poorly. read more

Worst Management Customer Service EVER! I WON'T SHOP THERE EVER AGAIN! I will drive across town to FABRIC DEPOT WHICH IS SO MUCH BETTER! I bought a remnant yesterday. The very nice employee cut it and I was a little concerned that she didn't take a little extra effort to make sure it was straight. I got home and cut my first piece out (small table so I couldn't set all the patterns out first...but I've done this a million times and I keep it very tight). So, you guessed it, it was short! It also wasn't cut evenly so I lost some that way as well. I go to the store to ask them to GIVE me that last 1 yard left of this remnant. There is only one yard and I felt that if I've already paid for the amount I needed, they should make a good will effort and just give me the last yard. We're talking $6. THEY SAID NO. I was very calm and nice and made my case again. They told me it was my fault for not getting more fabric than the pattern required. (I usually do but they would have required me to buy the last yard not just 1/8 more). The pattern showed quite a bit of free space too. I've been a long time customer. The manager wouldn't come out and talk to me. My daughter is taking sewing lessons as I write this. I've spent a ton of money there. I am worth $6. They not only lost a customer, they lost a customer who will tell her story to her friends. I hope they learn from this. read more

This place is like a fabric Mecca to me. Pretty much everything you could want at a fabric store and more, quilting cottons, batiks, all types of fabric for clothing, upholstery fabric, and even some high quality laces and stretch sheers for use in underwear and lingerie that you won't see at any Joann's type of fabric store. But the REAL awesomeness is at the back of the store...that's right...walk to the back...i know its a big store, walk ALL the way back there, you can do it. There you will find flat folds, remnants, and discontinued fabric at amazing discounted prices! You can't really look through this section having anything specific in mind, but keep your eyes open and you are sure to find something crazy, cheap, and great. Remnant of dark purple fun fur? Sure, that will make a great hat or purse! Blue and pink argyle flannel? Pajama bottoms! Striped and tie dye jersey? Awesome funky colored tshirts! They claim to have the biggest display of fabrics in America. That's quite a statement to make, but they certainly do have an amazing variety of cloth. The staff is amazing here-- helpful and attentive and willing to work with you. I came in with a vision and little idea of how to execute it, and I couldn't have been more pleased with how great everybody was. I found what I was looking for and spent exactly as much as I'd walked in expecting to spend. They stock everything from curtain and upholstery fabrics, vinyl and velvets and silks, to your basic calicos and canvases. Walking through their massive store, I saw TONS of great stuff that makes me want to create fabulous clothing and bags. Their selection of ribbon made me wish I has more things to do that involve ribbon, and that I had a large enough budget for it (it can be expensive!) I'll definitely be back soon. read more

This is second best fabric store in the Portland metro area behind Mill End's mother ship store in Portland. Great selection of fabric, very helpful staff. They even take time to explain fabric to a guy. Best of all they actually talk to the a guy about fabric instead of talking to the woman that is with them. I made the mistake of going to this Mill End after visiting the flagship shop in Milwaukie. In comparison, the Beaverton shop does not stock as much Pendleton fabric or have a yarn section. However, given the reduced shop space, the variety of fabric is comparable to a large Jo-Anns. Of course, unlike any Jo-Anns, Mill End does carry high end materials such as waxed cotton and thinsulate. Overall, a great fabric shop close to Portland. Because, that's super professional to criticize the stuff that YOUR store carries. I was very irritated by one of your employees. I asked her where I could find the woven Lycra, she told me it's everywhere. That was fine. I asked her where the "Knitted Lycra" was then she laughed at me looking down on me and said "such thing doesn't exist". She is wrong! There are 2 categories of Lycra. "Kitted" and "Woven". Common regular Lycra stricture is knitted. She should have known who she was talking to. She just embarrassed herself. It was very upsetting. read more

I've shopped here for years. I used to come for sales or odd things you might not find elsewhere. The Beaverton location had some fabric choice but nothing fancy until the last year or so. I used to go to the location out on Milwaukee but I find that the Western Avenue location has a better inventory ( specifically upholstery fabric)as of recently. The staff are so friendly and really help me decide what's going to be the best material for the project I'm working on. Prices are a bit high and I wish they did more sales or coupons but they truly carry some high quality fabrics. Still, more coupons or sales would be nice. read more

Had to get material for making curtains for a large window. So needed 12 yards of one material and 13 yards of lace. I came in with a piece of material to match the color for the 1st material. I was told to go to one section of the store and ask for help there. The store only had a couple of customers in it, was pretty dead and they were not in the section I was. There was 2 employee buzzing around and when asked for help they didn't seem interested in helping at all. Just said yup this is the spot go look. Fine, we find the stuff ask for a sample so my husband can see it and place the thing on hold so can come back to buy. The lace do same. Get approval come back buy silk go to lace and ohh we screwed up have 13 yards but in 6 pieces. Pick another lace get sample place on hold make sure have 13 yards in ONE whole piece (super important) and go get approval from husband.. tell them will be back Friday for lace. At Dr office at 10 am when leaving at 11 something to drive to pick up lace see phone msg of are you coming to get lace or we putting it back on floor? Like WTF I said Friday I'm coming it's bloody only 11 something. Get there to buy lace they unrolled to measure for 13 yards and oops they didn't actually check if in 1 piece or not. Thankfully it was 2 large pieces and could do 6 1/2 yards each. But searously to not check shit when I asked specifically and make me do 4 trips there is lazy, not good customer service, and just bad business. It makes me want to drive further and go somewhere else. Really frustrating. read more
