Wish I-could give 105 stars as theyre the best in all the USA! In 1985 I took my very worn-out Kenmore machine I got new Sears, 1972... i'd sewn literally hundreds of miles of stitches. I love sewing creating just about anything. But was worn out so I took it to Montevilla Sewing Ctr... their best technician, Gary rebuilt it like new! And unbelievable they didn't charge as much as I expected, andI would've paid twice that because was worth it! A few years later I'd worn it out again and Gary made it almost new again, but he told me was probably time to get a new machine so I decided they were right... I was giving the best deal ever On the Ellagio, but I've worn that one out too. and also got a BL serger...& a 6 needle/thread BL embroidery machine .... ive sewn a few hundred miles of stitches! so far it hasn't worn out. When I had a problem with one of the machines...no questions asked they replaced it immediately only to discover it was operator error my but they we're always kind and gracious. My wife took her sewing machine here to have it cleaned and serviced when she came to pick it up they told her they had cleaned and serviced it but also that the machine had a broken feed dog and was non-repairable. We took it to Sew & Vac where we got her "nonrepairable sewing machine" repaired. We were also told (and shown) that the machine had never been cleaned or serviced even though we paid for that at Montavilla. UPDATE: Brett, The fact that it was serviced even though my wife was told it was unrepairable is why I called your store to demand a full refund because as I told them; if I took my car into a mechanic to have the engine fixed, and they changed the oil, air filters and then told me it wasn't repairable because the engine was blown; that would be irresponsible service. That Brett, is exactly what my wife was told about her sewing machine. They charged her at the cash register for a service / cleaning but was told it was "unrepairable". My wife called me immediately and I called your store immediately to make sure she was fully refunded. She was refunded and we had it repaired at Sew & Vac. read more

I had quite the online delivery service adventure here! I am 38 weeks pregnant and ready to lay this egglette any day now. I'm also inconveniently staying in another state right now, but I had to make a last minute splurge. I love Montavilla Sewing Centers at Portland. They gave me a wonderful deal and the incredibly knowledgeable staff saved a lot of my time, they figured out what I wanted and put me on the right serger immediately! This time I wanted to try a Juki TL. I never touched one, ran one, or seen one on real life. But all the online info had me Hankering for the platinum edition. Also, it was during the mid-February snow spell! So the Portland Location was closed. I needed this machine! So Kelly gave me so much of her time on the phone, she analyzed what I already had, soul searched what I really wanted (it was between the Platinum edition Tl2020PE or a Juki Haruka). Kelly read my heart and said - "sometimes you just need to go with pretty!" Lol - she made it so easy. I ordered it over the phone and received it in 2 days during snowmageddon week! they made my wish come true immediately, giving me time before baby arrival! The TL2020PE was everything i dreamed it would be, but Juki gave it a bad paint job - Montavilla Sewing sent me another one in a day and had UPS pick up the return! November of 2019 I took my Pfaff 1523 to the Beaverton Montavilla. My machine had stopped working on a Saturday while I was sewing with friends. I drove right over to MSC just before closing. Steve, the technician, looked at my machine and said it was not repairable. I was in the middle of a quilt I needed to finish by Christmas and asked about buying the comparable 2019 equivalent Pfaff. He sold me a Pfaff Ambition 610. I left my 1523 to be "recycled". I went back the very next morning, less than 24 hrs later, and asked for my old machine back since one of my friends has the identical machine and wanted it. They said they couldn't find it. I kept asking until weeks later my son picked it up for me when they found it. But no foot pedal! More shenanigans before the foot pedal was found a few weeks after that. The 1523 has been sitting unused since then. Within a few days of purchase, I realized new Pfaffs are nothing like the older ones. I went back to MSC and was told I could trade in the Ambition for something else but couldn't get a refund. When I told Steve all the problems I was having with it he said what did I expect, it was made in Thailand. So I have spent the last 16 months trying to make peace with this miserable Ambition 610. In desperation I took my 1523 to Aloha Sew & Vac this past Tues. Today, 2 days later, it is cleaned and working fine. They could find NOTHING wrong with it. I can't wait to kick my Ambition to the curb, off a pier or down a rat hole. Save yourselves all the time and money and frustration and go to Aloha Sew & Vac first. read more

When I take my sewing machine in to be serviced and cleaned, I expect it to come back to me serviced and cleaned. What I do not expect is to pay $160 to have someone spill their coffee all over the case and not clean it up. I admit to not inspecting it when I left the store, which I normally would have done, as I was tired from running errands all day and just wanted to get home. The machine itself looks clean, and it was in fine working order when I took it in, so I'm hoping it's still in working order now. Giving 2 stars because they estimated 3 weeks, and it was done in just under 2, which I appreciate. However, I will not be taking my machine back. read more

Update: I was desperate to finish a project and went back, willing to try once more. I made my way to the presser feet area. The elderly lady (see above) asks if I need some help. I tell her that I'm looking for free motion/darning foot. She asks what kind of machine I have. Of which I respond it is a Necchi and I'm not sure what kind I need. She proceeds to tell me that they don't carry parts for that machine and that she can't help me. Seriously?!? What is the problem with the staff here?! I ended up googling the machine myself and it takes a universal low shank foot. Of which I happened to see here, but yet again my business wasn't good enough for this establishment. read more

I bought an older Necchi sewing machine on Craigslist and it ran really well, except the thread tension wouldn't release when I raised the presser foot. I called to see if they would look at it, and I was told to just bring it in to the service counter whenever I wanted. I went on a Saturday morning. The technician stopped what he was doing and quickly diagnosed the problem. He didn't have the exact size part that was needed to fix it, but he quickly altered something he had on hand. Problem solved in about 10 minutes for the price of a beer. When it's time for a full tune up or other service, I'll definetly be back. read more

I wish there was a higher star rating than 5 stars! The person who gave them one star must be a complete ass. The staff here is amazing. I came here before Christmas alone and was introduced to the wonderful world of Janome! Then I saw the Babylock's and said Whaaaat's that? OMG! How much fun is that! I learned so much in such a short time I was thoroughly overwhelmed. My head was spinning with ideas and went home to discuss my options with my husband! A few days later we headed out. First we went to the Aloha sewing place which specialize in Brother Machines with Disney logo's all over them. If I was a Disney fan- it would be cute. But it doesn't look professional. The lady there was very nice but I felt like the price didn't match the machine. Then we went back to Montavilla- the one in Beaverton with the really nice staff! We talked with Steve. Steve repairs these machines and knows them inside and out-literally. My husband gave him a run for the money and asked techie question after techie question and Steve answered them all and then some! Unbeknownst to me while they were discussing techie stuff, i got distracted by other things and walked away. While i was daydreaming again, they were arranging payment of two machines and gift wrapping! I had no clue! Christmas morning TADA!! A Janome with all the bells and whistles and a Babylock serger! I am hooked up! Not only did I get everything I need; Shelley, the manager threw in a few extra's! The staff there helped my husband shop like a girl! Accessorize! Damn! Good Job and what a great surprise. Last week, I went in for my first class with Rita on the Babylock. She was so nice and her instructions were clear and to the point. I can do this! My husband had called in and ordered a trolley bag for my Imagine and while I was sitting there Linda rolled the bag over asked my name and said "Surprise! Your husband got this for you!" Went home and had a little glitch -went back in Thursday. Steve was busy with a customer and Shelley helped us in the meantime and kept touching base to apologize for the delay which we understood. We had just walked in and were hoping they could help us last minute- waiting was no issue for us. Steve finished with his customer and found a factory boo boo, asked to keep the machine overnight to work on it first thing in the morning. Shelley gave us some complimentary thread for our inconvenience of having to wait. Totally unnecessary and appreciated. Donna popped over and asked if I had a lesson yet that she could set up my next class for me! As far as repair service goes they open at 10am and we picked it up Friday shortly after 12:30! How's that for service! I have never had an experience like this, this group is more than just business- its family and no one is competing to bum rush you when you enter. They are so nice! Really! I went in here on Black Friday. They had good sales on machines and just about everything else in the store. I was contemplating buying a new machine because I'd been having tension issues and had had all my accessories stolen, however, a salesman looked at my machine and gave me some suggestions on what might fix the tension issues. i thought it might need a repair/service, but he assured me it wasn't necessary. While I was there, I also bought two feet for my machine. They were out of stock of one of the ones I needed, and while the cashier was on the phone with the Portland store, the same salesman who looked at my machine found a used one which is bought for only a couple of bucks. I left the store feeling more confident in my machine, equipped with the two feet I needed plus two sets of needles for $19. Yesterday I'd stopped at Modern Domestic and was almost hypnotized into buying a super fancy Bernina for which I would have had to purchase on a 2 year credit plan. A Bernina might be in my future some day, but in the meantime, I'll go to MSC for my sewing needs and keep my Janome. They also sell sergers and seemed to have good sale prices on those. I had a great experience buying a sewing machine here! I came with my mom to buy my first sewing machine - we knew I wanted a Janome and my mom knew what kind of features I'd be looking for (since she is an experienced quilter/sewist). The first thing we were struck by walking in was just how many machines they had. It was like a sewing machine wonderland! We were immediately helped by a really nice and knowledgeable salesman (Marty) who didn't try to oversell us. They didn't have the 7330 Magnolia, the machine we were most interested in when we first walked in, and so he gave us a really fantastic deal on the Quilt Shop (which has all the same features, plus a lot of extra feet and a table). I didn't walk away feeling like I had been oversold, and in hindsight even if I didn't have my mom with me I think that Marty would have been able to direct me towards a machine that would be good for a beginner (with room to grow into) in my price range. The machine also came with a free lesson (I can't wait to have someone with more experience show me around my machine), and for a little more I was able to become a member of their loyalty program and three years of service. I would never have been able to get ANY of that on Amazon - I really feel like they took care of me. Seriously, if you're looking for a sewing machine I highly recommend coming here. They will let you sew on any machine, the salespeople are very knowledgeable, and I can guarantee that any machine you walk out of there with will be much better quality than a cheap machine that you might get at a big box store. I took a class to get to know the Pfaff Creative Icon today. Granted, they had a bit of an agenda, clearly they would like to sell me a sewing machine. However, the staff and Pfaff educators went above and beyond to make the class a productive and pleasant experience. Each of us had our own machine, and the staff was very attentive any time we even seemed to need help. They showcased interesting features of the machine, things which were new to me, and I've been sewing for 60 years. Lunch and snacks were served, all in all a great experience. Visited Monatville Sewing to get a diagnosis for my vintage Husqvarna sewing machine. I waited for about 20 minutes to speak to the repair person. No biggy since I was approached quickly by the another customer rep and given the option to drop-off the machine or wait. The repair man (did not get his name), was very nice and took my machine and did a quick inspection. He immediately spotted a broken part and detailed what would be affected by the broken part. I was provided an estimate and even a trade-in option. With the advice and information provided, I ended up repairing the part myself. Overall, I found the repair service helpful and prompt. Services available: Alignment and timing for older non-computerized sewing machine $104.95, $124.95 for european machines. Basic mechanical (not sure what that means) is $84.95. The prices are a bit higher but I would trust Montaville Sewing more than any other vacuum and sewing machine shop. read more

I have an old Pfaff sewing machine whose foot pedal stopped working. I took it here thinking it would be expensive to repair. There I met Emmanuel who went above and beyond replacing my foot pedal. He carefully checked six different used foot pedals and their wires and only would let me take one that was perfect. He then carried my sewing machine to the counter and then out to my car. He really went above and beyond to be helpful and kind and gave me a good price for the replacement. read more

First experience here and I am so impressed! Brought in my Juki serger, which is older than me and the one my mom sewed on for years and also taught me how to serge on. It's always causing me some sort of issue (super erratic tension mostly) but this time I couldn't figure out the issue and needed a helping hand. Nick carefully and lovingly inspected the machine and fixed the issue (wrong needle size) quickly and at no charge. He did talk to me about future state machine ownership and gave me some pointers on what is currently out there. At my request, he showed me the Baby Lock Imagine. Even though I am assuming this an entry-level self-threading and self-tensioning serger due to the lower price(?) I felt like a kid at a magic show... I was amazed at how far these machines have come! I have a sewing machine that is a bazillion years old. Literally. It had some funky things happening to it. So I took it to Montavilla. Sure enough, as soon as we set it up, everything was working just fine. At least for a sewing machine that is a bazillion years old. The man that took a look at it said, "let's just do some routine service on it anyway". So we did. Emmanuele is the repair tech. Well, I got my antiquated machine back the other day and set it up. Staff is NOT very helpful at the Beaverton location. They alway act to busy to help you even when the store is empty. Almost like that are to good to help you. Also, the manager is obnoxious. I have been here many times and the only time they did not act this way was when I first bought my machine from them and spent a lot of money. I now try to avoid this store at all cost. I have made a few calls to the downtown store and they seem great, for now on I will be going to this location when needed. read more

The staff here is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. From the first call to my visits all has been a pleasure. I just recently had to bring in my sewing machine for repair. There was no question the machine needed help and I was willing to fork over the repair cost. But Steve Tidwell, the repair guy stopped me. "we have Janome on sale right now" and there was a plain, non-fancy machine for $100. The same cost as the repair, so I said yes! Whoo, hoo, a new machine. But he was out of stock by accident. So he substituted a slightly more expensive, not on sale one for me! Who does that? Right? These people are great and I will shop here forever! read more

I called to get an estimate on a repair for my sewing machine. They told me $300 plus the part. I bought the part on line. They had a video on how to replace the part. I was able to repair this on my own in 20 minutes. I was told this was labor intense????? what a rip off. I had taken in a different machine and was also told it would cost $300 to fix. That one was labor intense but the machine only cost $200. Didn't get that one fixed. read more

This is the second time I stopped by with my sewing machine and Steve stopped what he was doing and helped me right away. The first time I had somehow misthreaded my machine! The second time I had a tension problem that created eyelashing and tangled threads on the underside of my quilt. When I described the problem, he quickly got to work by adjusting a spring (and realigning my needle threader along the way!) and upping the tension slightly. No more problems! And no charge! What a kind, knowledgeable man. I am so appreciative of him. I'll be sure to support the store (I just bought a set of presser feet a couple of weeks ago)...maybe a class in the future. Update: 05/02/18-I stopped by this morning because I managed to lose a needle inside the machine and couldn't find it. The service tech, Emmanuel, was so kind and took my baby apart to search right away. He found it and showed me where it had lodged. I am so impressed with this service and am so glad I chose Montavilla. Jackie was so helpful today in guiding me through buying a new sewing machine! She took a great deal of time in asking questions about my specifications, and then walked me through the Pfaff (my preferred brand) machines one by one-starting with the lower cost models up to the ones right around my price range. We tested every single machine, and Jackie insisted I try out all the features in front of her, so she could teach me how the machines worked. I ended up with two top choices-both the Ambition, one for $200 less than the other, and Jackie was really wonderful about not pressuring me to go for the higher cost option and even told me that the lower cost Ambition Essential was perfect for what I sew! This was not my experience at other dealers in the area! Jackie spent a lot of time answering all my questions-it's clear that everyone here is very passionate about their machines! There were many machine brands in store, all at different price ranges from "affordable" to "maybe when I win the lottery". There is literally a machine here for every need! The sale process was very smooth-I got wonderful extras thrown in, like bobbins and needles, and had the time to pick out presser feet and extra accessories! I was given a 1961 503a Singer Rockateer that worked but came from a house with dogs and had no drip tray. I took it to Montavilla for a cleaning, tune up and to make sure it worked. Turns out the bobbin case was wonky. I stopped in to see if they had found a replacement but they couldn't find my machine. Gulp. 20 minutes after I left they called to say they found it. Yey. I went to pick it up after the work was done. Surprise.... they only charged me for the cleaning. The bobbin housing/case was no charge and they found, installed and didn't charge me for a drip tray. Fast forward a week, my friend comes to give me a lesson because I'd been having issues. We'll she had the same problem. We took it back to Montavilla on a Sunday. There was one of the repair guys there and he showed me my operator error. I had the needle in backwards. Derp. He continued to fuss with it for 10 minutes to make sure it worked fine. No charge again and no one laughed at me. :) read more

I have been very disappointed with the quality of service on my Viking sewing/embroidery machine. I got an extended warranty with it when I bought it so I've been taking it there for 2 years. I've had to make repeat visits to get results. Twice I've gotten zero results and have had another Viking Store help me. Most recently, got it back after having tension problems; saw no improvement so took it to the other Viking service store. They found a couple of adjustments that hadn't been made. It works great now. I will not be using the service at Montavilla in the future. read more
