They can get busy, and retain only a few staff most of the time. That said, I have always been given excellent help either learning about a product or finding one. They've gone beyond many places, writing down information for items they don't carry, but I'm looking for, researching materials to answer unusual questions, etc. It's not a huge store, but they are dedicated to the art community, and always have what I'm looking for. They are also consistently the lowest or among the lowest in pricing, not only locally, but online. Ask about their membership card - it costs nothing, and can usually save you money. read more

I came in to order two custom mats to showcase some of my pictures. While the first one arrived on time, the second mat was initially miss processed, and had to be remade. A 4 star review nevertheless since the workmanship was high and price was reasonable. Additionally we need to make sure these local gems stay in business! Inspired after taking a "Paint your Pet" event and painting a portrait of my cat, that evidently was so realistic my cat is afraid of it, I decided to paint a portrait of my other cat. Too impatient to wait for another event, I decided to check out Blick to purchase the simple supplies I need. Having already gone to Michael's where I got the canvas and some paint, I was impressed to see so many different art supplies here. Huge variety of every type of item and prices that span the continuum. Low end to high end and everything in between. Lots of paint brushes of varying widths and purposes; I ended up with ones that have a colored band around them so you can easily identify the different style. In addition to my newfound painting ability, I love adult coloring which is so Zen and helps when I need a stress relief. Coloring and a glass of wine is magical. At Blick's the pencil and gel pen selection was over the top! They even have colored pencils with grip bumps! To get your children interested in art, there are dozens of kits - soap making, rock painting, paper lanterns, mini piñatas, chalk art - so something for every little Picasso. My favorite part of the store was the section with all the random spontaneous purchase items. The pad made to resemble a pad of butter was my favorite, but I liked the various card games, colorful journals, and can of Brain Paint. Next Christmas I am definitely coming here for stocking stuffers. As I wandered the aisles, several workers asked if I needed assistance and let me know that they were there to help. I found the prices a little higher than Michaels, but like Michaels, they had a lot of sales so it's wise to wait for the items you want to go on sale if you are making a big purchase. This location seems a bit smaller than the one downtown, but I still found everything I needed (very specific acrylic paints and some brushes), and then some! I recently decided I wanted to pick up calligraphy on a whim. I can't speak much for the other art forms, but when it comes to calligraphy supplies, Blick has a larger selection and better prices than Michael's. A Speedball pen and nib set was ~$5 cheaper, Higgins ink was ~$2 cheaper, and a parchment pad was ~$8 cheaper. These were considerable savings, especially for a beginner who did not want to invest a ton of money at the start. This was also before I signed up for their preferred membership card, which saves you an extra 10% with each purchase. I am very pleased! They also carry higher quality inks and pens should I decide that my handwriting is worth the investment. I let ya'll know how this new hobby goes. As for the rest of the store, I was overwhelmed with the selection and quality of everything. I could spend all day looking through everything! They have markers and pens and pastels in every possible color that you can pick out and buy individually. The staff are very approachable and knowledgeable. I usually go to the location downtown but they were out of the canvas I needed. I was happy to find out about this location. It's a farther drive but I'll drive anywhere for art supplies. It's a smaller store however it's fully stocked and organized well. I think the Pearl location is low on stock due to PNCA and PSU being right there. I found what I needed...and more as usual. The staff were above and beyond helpful and knowledgeable. Mark and Noelle are awesome and Mark even took my canvases to my truck for me which was amazing. I went to get a piece of art framed - it was a non standard size so I was willing to do custom framing and pay whatever. The custom framer was doing a large order and couldn't help me - totally understandable. The asst manager was showing me a standard frame that didn't work and then told me custom would be better. Great - let's do that. 'Well I can't right now because I have to close the store ' (it was 6:10 and the store closed at 8:00). They asked if I could come back tomorrow. Why would I come back tomorrow? Why don't you help me now when I am in your store? It's should have taken 15 minutes to write down my order. 8x8 sketch framed in a black frame with black matting. I drove 1+ hours from Hood River without checking on inventory for the product I needed, and while it wasn't on the shelf, they were able to find it for me, so I got two to avoid any more long round trips in the near future! Had to go here for a school project for the kid. They had the materials I needed. I walked in the door and the cashier asked what I needed and called someone to help me find it. Pretty nice service. I go to this place A LOT. What I don't like is when I need a paint marker and they need to unlock the shelf. They stand right there the whole time like I'm going to steal them. I need time to look for exactly what I need and then standing there makes me feel like I need to hurry and most importantly I don't steal anything. You guys gotta have more trust in your customers. Great place for genuine art supplies, not crayola markers and poster board. If you sign up for their club, you get a regular discount on everything and coupons in the mail periodically. I come for things for myself and my art-minded daughter. Decent prices, especially when you consider no tax or shipping charges. Good sales too. Only complaints? Some of the guys that work there are very pretentious and condescending. They stand behind the counter and talk to each other about how amazing they are. Big turn off. The downtown store is better for helpful, pleasant employees. They also have a better selection. I come by almost weekly. I have multiple art projects to complete. Rachael, you're right as a reviewer. I've met the staff members at Blick Art in Beaverton. Some of them are very kind and helpful. However, I can't say the same about everyone. Not long ago, the store was called Art Media. I came by to make a return, for the first time. A chubby guy was there to process the return. He was completely silent (no eye contact) throughout the entire transaction. Nonetheless, it made me feel so uncomfortable. The most bizarre thing was that, I was absolutely polite in my request for a return. Somehow, he found a snooty way to mock the entire scenario. From that day on, I decided not to return to Art Media. A few years have passed, some things have changed. Art Media is now Blick Art. Prices are more affordable, with a discount provided to members. I've met the manager. She's very polite and professional. Whenever I come in, she smiles and asks if I need anything. However, some things haven't changed. The chubby guy still works there. I've noticed other staff members greet you when you first come through the door. It's protocol for them to ask if you need any help. Not once, has the chubby guy greeted me or even asked me for any assistance. His behavior has not changed. I don't understand why it's so difficult to be genuinely kind to customers? Once, I called the store to ask if they carried certain items in stock. The guy over the phone said they didn't carry those items. Consequently, I asked if he knew (whether or not) such items might be available at their store in Portland. He answered with a snooty tone, "Of course we don't know." And hung up. I recognized it was the voice of the scrawny hipster guy. Come by every week, you'll know what I mean. In brief, take each review you read with a grain of salt. There's no such thing as a perfectly-rated merchant. Like any other store you go, weigh the pros and cons. Bottom line, the customers that walk thru the door at Blick Art represent a diverse group of people. It's Beaverton. I've noticed the staff hired there are not. It's the 21st century, time to bring in people with a diverse background, which reflects the customers that live nearby and walk thru the door. This store is my neighborhood go to art store. I was a dedicated Art Media customer and hoped that the small company would have a happy merger with the large company. We drove all the way here from Gladstone to check out mosaic tiles which they seemed to have a LOT of, but as it turns out only online. They had absolutely nothing in the store. It was pretty disappointing. I knew that they had mainly drawing/painting stuff, for I work for PCC and they come out every beginning of the term to give away freebies. I like this Art Media, though I love the downtown one. Went there with grand daughter to get supplies for her life drawing class-I promised if she'd take 1 college class I'd foot the bill. And she received a gift card for graduation so this was our go to spot friday. They have everything from supplies for the amateur dabbler to the professional artist and aren't snobby when you buy non professional brands of watercolors..after all, I paint because I enjoy it, not because I'm good at it. Grand daughter, however, got a good dose of artistic gene and deserves quality stuff, so she got it there. Lots of help even though they were busy. Plenty of necessaries on sale and a 20% discount for students makes Nana a happy purchaser. An excellent cashier even directed us to a great restaurant for our quick lunch. I think this is my favorite location, even though I've only been to this one twice. I love how big this store is. The day we went they had a 50% off sale on canvas and the Montana spray paint, which is kept under lock and key like Fort Knox was on sale for $5 a can. They are very friendly here, as well and helpful when looking for stuff. My son is the artist, so I just go along for the ride and he shows me a lot of the stuff and what it is used for. This place has every art supply you will ever need. I honestly was so surprised when I walked in. We were looking for paint for a concert poster we were making and they had so many different options and colors it was crazy. The store was also surprisingly busy, there were at least 7 people in front of us in line. The staff is obviously extremely knowledgeable about the products and were helpful when we inquired about the best type of paint (dry times etc). I lost my beloved neon pink extra fine Sharpie! Oh no, what's a girl to do? I didn't want a 24 pack of Sharpies... which is just about the only way to get the neon pink version. I saw the Blick had the neon pink one as a single marker online. I recalled the local store and wondered if they'd have it, also. So Husband and I stopped in. Wow this store was amazing - all sorts of beautiful art supplies. Indeed, they had my Sharpie... along with just about every other pen and marker you could want. I noticed they had no dry erase markers - presumably because that's an office supply, not an art supply. Husband and I both drooled over all of the pretty things... he was really impressed with the "make your own frame" items. He plans to come back to get some framing supplies. Of course they had tons of matting things as well. The staff was pleasant enough. We only interacted with them when we checked out. We signed up for the rewards program to get 10% off. read more

The WEBSITE is excellent and customer service is still taken seriously; they helped me fing the roll of canvas I needed with no nonsense, and everything is cheaper than in the stores. Having said that... This store location has some really arrogant counter help - the usual mix of more-or-less minimum-wage millennials with real smart-ass attitudes, BUT, they know practically nothing about art supplies. At the time we arrived there were some great sales in effect. 50% off graham oil, acrylic, gouache and water color paints. 40% off ampersand drawing and painting panels. On top of it all this place also gives student discounts. Truth be told they have almost everything a budding artist needs to start their art. Even if you are just up for looking around it might be hard to leave empty handed. The location is a little hard to find, being in inside corner an oddly shaped shopping plaza. But once you find it, expect to be greeted by a friendly and helpful staff. read more

Not only is Blick an absolute essential spot for finding all of your specialty and otherwise hard to find crafting materials, but the staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful at this location. I've been in a few times searching for very specific molding materials, and the customer service has been above and beyond. There's so much, I was lost at first. But an extremely helpful member of the staff, Max, came up right away to see if I needed help finding something, I let him know what I needed, and he knew right away what it was and led me right to it. They were out at the time, but he told me exactly how to order straight from the manufacturer since there seemed to be a shortage. And since there are so many awesome things, I ended up spending $50 anyway on clearance items. He was even thorough enough to go through and double check to make sure all prices rang up same as marked. Like who does that?! Everyone should since it's good customer service, but really... hard to find that anymore. I was impressed and will be coming back for all my craft needs even if it is a 45 min drive. read more

i usually love going here, but the employees seem indifferent to the guidelines present in their own store. i watched an employee ignore the one-way aisle guidelines while helping a customer and then had to squeeze to the side (the aisles are not wide) as they asked to pass us, breaking social distancing. then as i was going to checkout the employee at the counter encouraged me and the other person in my party to disregard the one-way guidelines and just walk up to the counter. i love blick and the selections here, but i'd like to enjoy the store safely, and i would hope that the employees would enforce the covid guidelines instead of encouraging customers to ignore them. read more

The products are great, there is a wide selection for both high price point and low, and I am always finding what I need without items being out of stock. My one complaint is the sales they try to advertise. They are too confusing and often don't apply to the products you think they will. My advice is if you get a promotional flier to go in and instead of trying to find the products it applies to, just ask the employees to show you. I have come in multiple times and not been able to use coupons because of misleading advertising. Other than that, I love Blick and could spend hours in there. read more
