Can definitely see how Hobby Lobby will continue to succeed in the craft, arts, and home decor category while its competitors either close (JoAnn's) or struggle (Michael's). It has the best selection and very competitive prices without complicated coupons and sales. We are creatures of habit, with my wife using JoAnn's Fabric for her sewing crafting needs because that's where her family shopped while she was young. Later Michael's became the place as they expanded and opened new stores in our area, and her other mom friends recommended. Now Hobby Lobby seems to be the place as we convert to an empty nest and help my newlywed daughter decorate her new place. This location isn't as new as the ones we have been going to in California, and wasn't nearly as well staffed. In our case, we were able to find everything on our own. I did learn that items marked as 'Your Price' (which is a large portion of the store) is the final low price, no other discounts apply. The vast majority of product are inhouse brands, with the price preprinted (which saves labor on pricing tasks). The only hiccup was that nobody was actively manning the registers when there were no customers, and could only scale to one register even with many customers waiting. But as I've recognized, personalized customer interaction is more important than speed and efficiency at craft stores, and it's obviously working for them. read more

It's Hobby Lobby. A hoarders paradise and a teacher supply warehouse. This location is convenient for me to grab supplies for my kindergarten classroom. Huge aisles, loads of stuff, and wow, overwhelming and huge!! I'm not necessarily a crafty person but, if you are, this is your spot. I do love the inexpensive T-shirt's in the back of you're looking for a plain T-shirt to craft on. Parking lot is easy, and staff friendly and helpful as I was looking for a specific item and they helped save me from wandering all over looking for craft lace. Also, the large selection of craft products for my hobbies and the huge variety of things to choose from for decorating during the holidays. Add the fact that prices are low, they always have sales and the phone app gives me 40% off anything not on sale 365 days a year, and I come here whenever I want to buy something they sell. Super stoked that there's a store in Issaquah which means it's close to where I live and work. Real art supplies are here that you can't find anywhere else within 20 miles of this city. So, I went to Hobby Lobby for the first time this past weekend and I am in LOVE. This place is literally decor HEAVEN. Pinterest heaven. Party planning heaven. Just, actual heaven. They have all the things you need and then the things you didn't know you needed all under one roof. I was shopping for some stuff for my son's nursery. We're doing an adventure/mountain theme and they literally had SO much to choose from and everything we were looking for. I feel like some of the stuff is a little pricey but I'm not DIY-savvy so, I'm gonna shell out the money. Even if you aren't looking for anything specific this place is freakin' amazing. Glad to have Hobby Lobby in the area, as it's a well-organized arts and crafts store with lots of home decor and supplies. Hobby Lobby has taken over the old Sports Authority in Issaquah, so the store is spacious and well-lit, with plenty of parking in the lot out front. Compared to other arts and crafts stores in Issaquah, Hobby Lobby is a nice addition as it's much more organized and clean than its competitors. During my visit I saw that a lot of the items were on sale, with plenty of signs indicating discounted promotions on most stock. Of the items I saw here - they have a great selection of fabrics, fake flowers and plants and an open and large area to customize frames. A lot of the home decor was themed and seasonal. Overall, this is a nice store with crafting supplies and more in Issaquah. I'll come back to find great deals for home accessories and gifts. read more

Always stocked, never organized but I think that's part of what keeps you in the vortex of spending ha ha. Lots of cute stuff and there's always a sake going on. If you check out the far back left corner of the store you'll see the clearance section. I always find super cheap stuff there I can use for gifts or crafts or with the kids. Wait for sales, use coupons and or bring your receipt back when things are on sale that you just bought and they will adjust the price. They are usually very bare bones staffed, hard to find someone to help you though. So that part is tough. I hope you don't need much help when you are there. read more

I started working on some various art projects and I can see some pluses and minuses with Michael's and Hobby Lobby both. I like Michael's 20% off coupons and such. Both stores seem to have good selections but most many holes and empty spots and that might be with the virus. I bought a drawing and sketch from Michael's due the 20% off coupon. I will buy from the store that is cheaper and selling the best quality product. Overall, both stores are awful to get assistance on the floor in most cases. I went into buy a calligraphy set. I was looking for brushes too-most Japanese/Chinese influence. Both stores were not that good in that regard. Michael's had many pen drawing calligraphy sets and they were all broken open so I was afraid to buy them to find that something was missing. Hobby Lobby had a good beginner variety set on sale and I went to the register to buy but there were 10 people in one line so I went to put it back but then I saw when I came back, she had called for another cashier so it was 5 people in each line. Both cashiers were not fast and efficient and did not seem interested in moving quickly. I did buy the kit but would have put it back again if the line was long again. A while ago, vowed to NEVER set foot in Hobby Lobby due to their politics which I am very opposed to. But I needed some art supplies, and there was NO OTHER place nearby for them (no time to buy on line). Store is huge. Has some great decorative stuff (vases, furniture, chairs, etc.). I am disabled and no motorized carts! But i was told they had a wheel chair, and an employee who would happily wheel me around! Woo Hoo, that worked great. Found my painting supplies, good prices, great selection. Employee was so super helpful in pushing me around to what I wanted to look at. Cashier was also fabulous, so accommodating and nice- could not have been more helpful! So, okay, politics be damned for now, I probably will be back, I loved their selection and items available (baskets, frames, gifts, candles, etc.) and the super wonderful employees made the trip very easy and special. read more

I was given a special football jersey for my grandson. I wanted it framed so he can have it for Christmas. I'm not very crafty when it come to this. I brought the jersey and shadow box down to Hobby Lobby in Issaquah. A kind man named Trevor works in the framing department. He said he's been with the company for 10+ years. He patiently worked with me, giving me ideas to make this a special gift. When it came time to pick it up, he carried it to the register for me and then to my car. You can tell he loves his job and loves sharing his creativity with others. Trevor wanted to make sure, the design was what I wanted and that I was happy with it. I am extremely happy about how it turned out. I can't wait to present it to my grandson. The customer service he gave, reflects on the company as a whole I'm sure. I frequent this store often. I'm a frequent customer since they opened, I haven't had to return stuff till recently. Terrible experience left feeling really uncomfortable. The person helping had a customer service manager title and couldn't complete the transaction in a appropriate way. The person originally doing the return also used the towel that she cleaned the counter with to wipe off the pen she gave me to sign for my return. Not ok! The item I was returning was broken and she said she could only give me 50% back since that's what it was on sale the last 2 weeks ? I had all the packaging and the item was defective. I got it only 2 days ago.Not to mention I called in the morning looking for an item she put me on hold, told me it wasn't there anymore. Well I show up and it's right on the shelf! The same item. First time at this place. This place is much BETTER than JoAnn's + Michael's + Home Goods combined! Their selection was better. JoAnn's always had a ton of stuff that look like Dollar Store quality/usage items, Michael's was too crafty, not useful for me, HomeGoods have great stuff but high prices and it was hit and miss. This place appears to have regular stock that is useful and very nice. Better regular prices and then when you use the 40% off coupon...even better! I liked that they were well organized. JoAnn is a bit cluttered and understaffed. This place was well staffed. Very friendly and genuine. Not overworked like JoAnn's. One employee I chatted with said this employer actually treats them with respect, not like her two previous jobs. Happy to hear that. I usually ask employees so I know if it's a place I want to spend my money at. I thought they would be just another JoAnn's or Michael's but I (and my mother in-law who came with me) were both impressed. The only negative thing here was that the new staff (this store was newly opened) still are figuring out how much stuff their store carries and what the items can actually do. So one didn't know if they had some items and another employee pointed me directly to an item that can do exactly what I needed for. Multigenerational-Family friendly shopping experience. Me and mother in-law were both well pleased (with the prices, selection and staff) and my baby was well entertained by the friendly staff. If they only opened here before I got married, I would have shopped here. I made sure to share with my extended family about this new place. Watch your receipt. I over purchased items for an event and asked the cashier if l didn't need the wreaths if returning would be easy she said "no problem". Of course l keep my receipt and never took then out of the bag. When l went 4 days later to return them it was a horrible ordeal. I bought 8 eucalyptus wreaths and that receipt showed the price 2 times and crazy random prices on everything else. The tags had no bar code and no way to price check. Instead of getting my money back she refunded me for just 2 then we went back and forth on me being forced to have a stupid store credit. I was furious and it took 3 employees to try to figure out. Great products, but the worst check outs in town. Saturday, 2 cashiers out of 8 possible and SIXTEEN people waiting to give HL their money. We wait 20 minutes and with six people left to checkout, one person strolls up to cashier & takes the person who just walked up!!! Everyone was so annoyed. This is repulsive service. I was so excited to finally step in the store and browse around and found few items I wanted until it was time to checked out my purchases. Boy oh boy, it took the cashier forever to ring my items. The cashier have to punch in the price one at a time then check it on his ad if that item is on sale. The only time he used the scanner is when I have to show him my coupon. Took him 7-10 mins to ring a customer and line was building up. I wonder if other HL has the scan/barcode system at check out. The entire time we were there a fire alarm wouldn't stop going off, which sucked, and no one seemed to know what they were doing and we had to walk across the store multiple times just to return an item.
