The waitress was extremely helpful as well as friendly. she told us about their new smash cheeseburger, and we decided to try it out. It was delicious! As our side we chose the turmeric Cole slaw. it was so good you couldn't tell it was healthy for you. The baked good looked so good but nothing sugar free. oh well! read more

This is to let you all know that the roast chicken is SOOO darn good. I had the white meat quarter plate, sonny had the dark meat quarter plate. It came with a very rustic big cube stuffing that was heavily seasoned (In a good way) and a white gravy with chicken chunks in it. The meat is VERY well seasoned, very juicy and just a joy to eat. I had tots as a side and son had the dressed greens. Greens had a great dressing and tots were hot and well cooked. I plan on getting this again!! Thank you Hive! read more

Meh. I've eaten here twice, and it's not been anything special. I've gone the healthy route and the irredeemable glutton route, and neither blew my skirt up. I can make a better salad at home, and if I want to be naughty, a chicken quesadilla with extra sauce from Taco Bell is more worth the calories. The food is not terrible. Good outdoor seating. Perfect cozy comfort food for a chilly fall day! I ordered the ramen and my husband the chicken pot pie. The ramen was flavorful but I ended up trading halfway through for the pot pie which was so creamy and the crust was perfectly buttery and flakey! I think if we return we would both go for that! I had good expectations based upon the ratings, but those were surpassed with the dinner I got "to go" last night. Great flavor, short wait time, and friendly service made for a 5-star dinner. I pulled to the shared lot in early in the dinner hour. Despite the light rain, I saw some couples enjoying the umbrella covered tables on the patio. I went in and saw the menu board over the order counter. I let them know it was a "to go" order and that I wanted a couple items: The chicken pot pie and the bahn mi (Pork) with a side of potato salad. The wait time was brief, only about 10-15 minutes. I was given a number to put on a table that I sat at while waiting. They brought out my order and I headed home. And even after a 45 minute wait, I could not believe how yummy the food was. I split my meal with my wife so that I could sample both entrees. The chicken pot pie was simply the best one I have had in years! My wife, who is a self-proclaimed crust expert, absolutely loved the baked rim of the pie (stealing some of mine!). Inside, the chicken was seasoned but not overwhelmed by the spices. The chicken was cut into small, but chewable chunks that fit easily on my fork without dropping off. Just a great choice! The bahn mi (they have a tofu option as well) was served sliced and wrapped so it was still warm when I got home. The pork was tasty on its own, but when combined with the pickled veggies and the fresh mint leaves, the layering of flavors was superb! Nice balance of acidity and savory with that fresh blast of mint. Wow! The potato salad was unique, though maybe not quite as good as the entrees. The salad was very lightly dressed and came with two kinds of potatoes (including chopped purple ones), red onion, and celery. Good and tasty, though not amazing. I went to Hive for the first time last night and I can't believe it took me so long. I've been reading great things about Hive, it just isn't in the part of town I typically look for food in (northeast side, near Wings Xtreme). The atmosphere is nice and they clearly emphasize speed above all else (we spotted a shelving area designated for pick-up orders) I have heard Hive was largely opened to feed workers at the new hospital, so it seems speed is a good focus. We were offered free deli samples and pickled vegetables by the staff - who were very friendly and helpful. They have a deli ham salad that is apparently supposed to rival the famous Hays ham salad sold in various parking lots (which is super weird, but I know people like it) so if you're a fan, give it a try. I ordered the Braised pork bowl and it came with a well seasoned braised pork, dried peas, microgreens, rice, and delicious greens. I definitely enjoyed it and the portions are huge so leftovers are definitely possible. I barely made it half way through my meal. My partner got the Bahn Mi (also huge) with a side of the turmeric slaw. Love the slaw, but salt and pepper need adjusted, we had to add more at the table. My partner also loved the Bahn mi, even declaring it the best and most authentic in town. I will definitely be back and I look forward to trying the brunch menu! read more

I don't quite understand the genre -- they call it "comfort food," but it's much better than meatloaf and mashed potatoes. You can get roast chicken and fries, a couple of interesting bowls, a nice-looking banh mi, or a pretty good bowl of ramen. And if you've ever been to my house, you know this is pretty much the definition of the kind of food I like to cook, and therefore to eat. If I were judging by my ramen alone, I'd say it was merely fine, but I was particularly charmed by the free availability of jars of various pickled vegetables (green beans, beets, etc.) and by the sunny open space and quick friendly service, making a simple and satisfying lunch spot for both adults and toddler. read more

Hive is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in Bloomington. They have a ton of healthy options with quality local ingredients, but also delicious smash burgers if you're in the mood for something with a little grease and cheese! I love how clean, bright, and modern the dinning area is. It's also nice being able to sit outside on their patio in the spring, summer, and fall. The Kitchen staff and servers are knowledgeable, polite, and helpful! Plus the managers are great people who put genuine effort and care into their business. Definitely try the pies, they're homemade and very tasty. I live close to the Hive and have been eagerly waiting for its' arrival. I was so excited that I even texted my fiancé with daily progress of the Hive's construction. Needless to say, he was glad when the restaurant finally opened. We came to the Hive around lunchtime on Saturday, and loved the setup and style of the restaurant. This place is a fast casual concept and once you order, the food is quickly delivered to your table. The restaurant has huge windows with plenty of natural sunlight along with plentiful outdoor seating. I ordered the Banh Mi while my fiancé got the Jackfruit BBQ sandwich. We also got a basket of fries to split. My Banh Mi was really good and had all the flavors of a traditional Banh Mi, but I wish the bread was toasted. I had the other half of the sandwich as leftovers and toasted the bread to reheat it, which made the sandwich perfect. My fiancé also enjoyed his Jackfruit BBQ sandwich and liked how the jackfruit had a smoky flavor to it. Our fries were seasoned with cajun seasoning and also tasted fine. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at the Hive and would come back. However, we both thought our meal was quite expensive for what we ordered ($7 for a basket of fries, our fault) and wish some dishes were slightly cheaper. I came to the HIve on 08/29/18 and It was my first time here. I got the Roman bowl and my friend got the braised pork bowl and we both ate the entire thing! All the flavors were melt in your mouth. I also got a piece of the Hive Pie, as I can't pass up the House pie. Let me tell you this pie was definitely fantastic! As Inquired as to what type of pie this is i was told a buttermilk pie. When I was done eating I ended up buying a whole Hive pie. Overall I'm giving this place 5 stars. The staff was super friendly and Willing to help me find something that fit what I was looking for. Finally checked out Hive for the first time for lunch on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised by the concept and how busy it was. There are a few small details they still seem to be working on but the decor is clean and simple inside. It's a fast casual restaurant where there are registers as soon as you walk in and menu boards behind the registers. They have a decent selection of brunch and lunch or dinner options. I opted for the yoga bowl which was a vegetable and quinoa bowl packed with feta, olives, avocado, and other great flavors! I was Super excited to try this as there isn't a ton of options for fresh food in bloomington that isnt just a generic chain. i tried the yoga bowl and it was so so good, definitely would recommend. everything on the menu looks great, but my only complaint really is that for a fast casual place it is kind of pricey. also, since it is a new place with a creative menu, having someone walk you through the menu would be helpful. the cashiers didnt really seem interested in doing that. read more

Ate here for the first time today since living in Bloomington for over two years now. I was not disappointed. I had the chicken legit snd it lived up to it's name. Chicken was seasoned nicely and very tender and the red onion and greens complimented it nicely. Their slaw was also decent and I loved the fries! Service was very friendly and helpful being my first time there and all. I guess the only complaint I really have is it's a little pricey. But, you get what you pay for and I also had a local brewed beer as well. I definitely recommend and I will for sure be going back to try other things there hopefully soon! read more
