We finally had a chance to try Hive Bakery when we were in Irving for a wedding. I highly recommend pre-ordering the night before to make sure they have what you are interested in. The cupcakes are absolutely decadent!! So delicious! I knew I would love the death by chocolate but the real surprise was the carrot salted caramel cupcake! Definitely our favorite. The cookies and bars were also delicious. I love that the cookies had a slight almond flavor that set them apart from standard sugar cookies. And the Jack Skellington with raspberry filling was to die for! Everything was fresh, packaged nicely and ready to go when we got there. Cute, quaint, quick service, photo appeal is nuts, got the vegan fruity pebbles cupcake. Taste was 3/5 just because frosting was really sweet like way sweet. I think many bakeries have to hone in this aspect of cupcakes for people with dietary preferences/restrictions because vegan frosting is nearly always a bust. The cake part was spectacular and is why I kinda just think they maybe missed out on just the frosting. Flavor was exciting and fun, again just the frosting was mid. This place is incredible!! I honestly just stopped by to support the bakery after I saw they got hate mail and threats after selling Harris/Walz cookies. I AM SO GLAD I DID! They were already sold out of those cookies, but I got a red velvet cake ball, a monster cookie, and an m&m cookie. The red velvet cake ball is to die for and I only semi-like red velvet. The other cookies were soft, so delicious, and huge. If I were closer, I'd be here daily! It's hard to find gluten-free baked goods that aren't super dense and crumbly, but the geniuses at Hive have it figured out. The cake has an amazing moist and spongy texture that could easily fool the regular gluten eaters. The peanut butter icing on the Reese's cupcake was light and airy and full of peanut butter flavor. The blueberry icing was delightful as well, and the center of the cake was filled with what appeared to be mashed up fresh blueberries. If you're not gluten-free, there's plenty of regular full-of-gluten delectables, but I guarantee that you don't have to worry if it's gluten-free or not. It will be DELICIOUS. read more

I stopped in on a whim after trying the nearby delightful Edison Coffee to grab a couple cupcakes for the hubs and I to have after dinner last night. The selection wasn't huge at 3pm - maybe 4-6 cupcake flavors and a couple vegan or gluten free things I ignored, but two of the cupcake flavors could have had our names on them so it was an easy decision. I got the Reese's pb/chocolate for him and the raspberry almond for me. Hubs rates his cupcake a 4, "better than average, but not amazing". It was about 3.5 for me. Dense but not rich per se, I liked the frosting though. Mine was about a 3 for me; the best part was the frosting which had a ton of almond flavor and just the right sweetness level. Unfortunately I didn't like the cupcake as much as the frosting. It was dense which isn't always bad but it wasn't rich or sweet or with enough almond flavor for my taste. Another reviewer compared it to pound cake, but I would say only if the pound cake was made half-sugar and half-butter. To me it was just ok. All this is personal preference, I am very picky about cakes and cupcakes, and only a few meet my tastes. Unfortunately for Hive there is another bake shop in the area whose style aligns perfectly to my tastes, so I probably won't come here all that often, but I do think If you prefer less sweet cupcakes you might like these. I've been hearing the name Hive Bakery all over social media and how they have been making cookies and cakes to support women's rights, so I packed up the kiddos and made the drive. First of all, the bakery is situated in this little courtyard surrounded by brick buildings reminiscent of the east coast. Secondly..... the smell that you inhale when you walk in reminds me of the little bakery that I would frequent as a child. So, I already have good feels just being there. You can pre-order some of the more popular items because they do sell out. We got a lemon tart, brownie, and the bread pudding. Oh em gee. A minute on my lips forever on my hips but so worth it. I'm a baker by heart, and previously by trade. I've been baking since childhood, I've worked in many kitchens and a cupcake and pastry bakery. My husband and I l like to find new bakeries we haven't tried, get a sampling of things to try and jokingly "pass judgement" (all in good fun). These baked goods were LEGIT. SO GOOD. Will definitely go back for more! The cupcakes were pleasantly dense with light and fluffy frosting. The knock-you-naked bar is an ooey gooey addiction in the making. The monster cookie and oatmeal cream pie were nothing short of amazing - crunchy, chewy, perfectly balanced and not too sweet. I'm not wild about lemon bars but my mom and husband loved it. I was amazed over the buttercream icing - the consistency and flavor - my expectations met for splurging :) All The flavors were moist and tasty but I was knocked over by the chocolate cake. Dense and rich dark chocolate homemade flavor - not that generic box flavor - and so moist that a crumb wasn't left behind. I work down the street and have become a frequent visitor to Hive. They make amazing stuff. I usually just get cupcakes because all the other stuff is sold out by the time I'm off work but I finally remembered and ordered the night before online! 6 pack of cupcakes, the caramel tres leches, the lemon tart and a slice of carrot cake. The strawberry cheesecake cupcake is my favorite of all the cupcakes! It will not disappoint. The pistachio rose was my least favorite because the rose flavor is very overwhelming blocking out any pistachio taste and I love pistachio so it made me sad. The caramel tres leches was incredible, I could not stop tasting it. But for me, the pastry of the lemon tart is one of the best things I have ever had. I normally don't like the shell of pies and tarts (like I will eat the inside and barely touch the crust) but this tart was perfect. Light, buttery rich flavor all at once, I CRAVE it now. Andy's mint was a gluten free chocolate cupcakes that seemed very undercooked and mint tasted way to artificial and not...right. The salted caramel was not "salted caramel". What's a party without a great cake! I loved my cake and so did my cake loving guest. I ordered a 9" vanilla Signature Cake. The cake easily fed 26 cake lovers. My crew doesn't do small slices. With that said, we still had well over 1/4 cake left. I picked the cake up on a Saturday for a Sunday party and left it inside the refrigerator overnight. Of the bakeries in the area, they are one of the top. Their items are made fresh and from scratch. They are huge and impressive to look at. Instagram-worthy treats. They come out with a variety of exciting flavors and holiday-themed things. I especially enjoy that they offer a variety of gluten-free options which they take special care in making to avoid contamination. I'd say they are American style so expect sweet first flavoring.
