This is one of the worst places to eat. Terrible food with service to match. if you ever wondered what a restaurant ran by people who don't know food would be like, this place is your answer. They offer dishes that are inaccurate and just gross. Biscuits and gravy, yet no sausage gravy. They figure a biscuit with any gravy they choose is just good enough. Just cut up reheated frozen sausage patties and throw it on. Instead of having a limited menu of food that's good, they have an expanded menu of garbage food.... yumm!! My wife and I ate at this 'The Hitching Post' back in 2023 and found the food and service was just wonderful. Decided to take 2 other couples here with us since we were passing through a few weeks ago and we knew the food would be great. WELL IT WASNT EVEN CLOSE!!! When we first walked in we were seated right away. Took a few minutes before anyone took our drink order. Then it took about 15 minutes to take our food order. Then it took about 45 minutes to get our food. The chicken fried steak was a frozen steak out of a box. Mashed potatoes were out of a box. Now mind you there were about 5 waitresses mostly standing around visiting since there were only about 4 tables active including ours. This was around 6:45 when we arrived. Someone in our party needed to use the restroom but there were blocks put up at the bathroom for cleaning that stayed there the entire time we were there. Was told to use another restroom on the other side of restaurant but it also was closed. By 8:00 we decided to move the blocks from doorway to be able to wash hands and use restroom after our meal. Well this caused an uproar with waitstaff because they were more focused on closing down and going out I guess. Even though we tipped our waitress quite well she had the nerve to throw the change at one of our parties as they paid with cash. We were asked to leave before they called the police. I think at this point we wanted them to call the police to file charges against our waitress that threw the change at our friend. We eat at a lot of restaurants when we are on the road but this one is no good!! Take my word for it, don't do it! It was like a 'Twilight' moment! I think our waitress was the only one that had a mouthful of teeth! The main waitress told us she had the owners on the phone and they wanted us kicked out of there. So, my wife and I, and our 2 kids went to the Hitching Post today for a midday meal. We ordered $50 of appetizers, including the cheese sticks and fried pickles. The appetizers were amazing, and I thought the rest of the meal had to be good. My daughter ordered grilled chicken alfredo. I ordered The Outlaw Burger, my son ordered the mushroom Swiss burger, and my wife ordered the chicken BLT. I'm deathly allergic to onions, as call in the emt's type of allergy. I told the waitress about my allergy, and she said no problem. She brings out my burger with a mound of sauteed onions. Had I taken a bite without looking, I would be in the hospital. All of the fries, for three of our meals, were soggy, and had no flavor. The two burgers were cooked so well done that they had to be gnawed on to eat them. My daughters Grilled chicken alfredo was in a bowl the size of a soup bowl, about half full, with 2-3 little pieces of grilled chicken. This for $23???? The entire order cost us $160 with a tip, and was not worth $40. The only exception was the appetizers, and they were way overpriced. Overall this is the worst meal I have had in the Green River, Rock Springs area, in 8 years. I will not recommend Hitching Post to anyone I know, and they will never have my business again. On a side note, the waitress was watching me do her tip, and kept checking over my shoulder, including taking a side detour, just to see what I had left her. We usually enjoy coming here, even though customer service has sometimes been a little inconsistent. Tonight, unfortunately, was another experience that left us disappointed. We walked in as a family of seven and stood at the door for about seven minutes without any acknowledgment. Several employees saw us, and 6-7 staff members walked right past us without a greeting. It wasn't particularly busy, so it was surprising. I don't mind waiting at all. What stood out was the lack of a simple "Hey, welcome in -- we'll be right with you." That kind of basic courtesy goes a long way. We'll likely still come back because we enjoy the place overall, but I hope they can improve the customer service experience moving forward. read more

Well I apologize for not having images but let's talk About the dishes served and why I would never and I mean never go here again. Steak fingers were the gristle from a beef cut heavily breaded and impossible to chew through. The spinach and artichoke dip was mostly freshly melted mozzarella cheese. The grilled chicken and baked potato had no flavor beyond their raw flavor the chicken fried steak was that of a frozen one nothing home made about it instant mashed potatoes and peas and carrots that cooked in the canned water no flavor not even salt. The raspberry dipping sauce tasted like septic smells tho it smelled good. Hitching Post opened a couple minutes early. That was nice. I sat at the counter. Was told that decaf would be awhile as the burner was off overnight. Not sure what that means for coffee. We stopped here for lunch while on a grueling road trip. We were pleasantly surprised! We were greeted right away by a friendly server. Service was prompt and super friendly. Our drinks were refilled on a regular basis. The food was very tasty. I had the BLT and used the salad bar. The salad bar looked appetizing and was fully stocked. Food portions were generous. After a great football win, my son and I ate here before starting our 3 hr drive home. One of the local players told him this was a great place to eat. The ambiance was great. Very friendly and a good size dining hall to accommodate bigger parties. Very clean, with friendly and gracious servers. We chose a meal that included the salad bar and soup to start. Salad bar was clean, fresh, and had lots of great choices. The soups were hot and tasty. I ordered the salmon, which was overcooked, and had the mashed potatoes, that I did not like - to be fair, it was later in the evening and they were hit with a bigger after-game football crowd - so maybe 26 seats all at once w/o any reservations. I would definitely return to enjoy their salad bar and soups. When I find my receipt (our visit was in October), I will give kudos to our great server. The whole staff that night was very friendly and helpful. Though we did not indulge, there is a full bar w/ a separate bar room to be enjoyed when the time is right. The Hitching Post Restaurant in Green River offers solid food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere. The portions were generous, and everything tasted great. It's a good spot to grab a bite if you're in town. However, it's tough to fully enjoy a meal knowing that just down the road, the city's animal shelter is still using a gas chamber to euthanize animals. While every other city in America has abandoned this outdated and inhumane practice, Green River refuses to move forward. It's a strange contrast--warm hospitality inside the restaurant, yet a heartbreaking reality for shelter animals outside. If you visit, I highly recommend talking to locals about this issue. Many may not even be aware their town is one of the last in the country still doing this. Would I eat here again? Yes. Would I feel better about it if the town finally banned the gas chamber? One small OJ 1.5 hrs later as we were paying the bill. Crazy right? Thinking give them another chance maybe.... This morning, got coffee with spoon in it, didn't get creamer until third ask. Large roomy place. Great, attentive service! Entrees come with soup & salad bar. We both got clam chowder and it was pretty good. The salad bar had lots of choices! I had Chicken Parmesan. The chicken was good and was already sliced--which is great. My husband had Beef Stroganoff. I am a regular at the hitching post. Usually stop for dinner every time I come to town on a train. Went for dinner tonight and was seated immediately, however they then forgot about me. There were maybe 4 tables there with people and around 4/5 servers/ waitresses. About 40 minutes goes by and I am still sitting there waiting for them to take my order. The server then walks up and apologizes for forgetting about me because he wasn't aware that I was his table section. So basically I sat there for 45 minutes waiting to order my food. First of all the service you will get here doesn't get any better. Friendly staff And the food is unlike any other place because it taste so good, comes out nice and hot and the prices are moderate. We had dinner at the Hitching Post in December as part of a company Christmas party. It was our first time eating here. The sidewalk was pretty icy (we'd had snow off and on for a couple days), so we walked slow and steady. I'd recommend they throw some ice melt out, lol! The interior is cute, super rustic, as expected. Very clean. Not too busy on a Friday night, but our event was in a separate room, so maybe it was busier than it seemed. Service was good (shoutout to Crystal), they definitely seemed understaffed, but it's not the employees fault. They were doing their best. Bread waiting on the tables was yummy! There were probably 35 people in our party... we'd placed orders a couple weeks in advance, but the servers came around to confirm orders. The reason I'm only giving three stars here is because, even though we'd placed orders in advance... the first food started coming out well more than 30 mins after the orders had been confirmed. And the last dish was served more than 90 minutes after the orders were confirmed. It was fish. Totally and completely unacceptable. It WAS delicious... portions were big.
