Okay this is a country style sports restaurant and bar. Big place, with pool tables and juke box. Dance floor, I gathered they get quite a crowd on weekends, we went on a Monday night on our way back from Yosemite. Not a fancy place, but I have to say the service was really good, Much better than Betts Gold Chips Sports bar in Mariposa. My daughter got a Philly Cheese Steak, I had a Club Sandwich w/ half fries and half onion rings, my grandson had a burger (which he said he didn't want when we ordered it) but he liked it so much he ate every bite of it plus his fires and some of my onion rings. Everything was fresh and delicious and the portions were actually a bit larger than my daughter and I could finish, so we got the rest to go. Lived here for four years and finally tried the famous Hitching Post for Taco Tuesday. I had to try the tacos since it was Taco Tuesday. They were very good, American style tacos. My wife had a burger which also was very good. Kinda surprised that the place was pretty empty for lunch time. The six in our party plus another couple.....that's it. Atmosphere could use some updating. It is a little dark and dingy...kinda had the look and feel of a bar, which is what it is. Even a bar can be classy looking. I'll bet they could increase business by giving it a complete facelift. It is called a sports bar but it is more of a local pub where all locals hang out. They are very friendly and will be more than willing to answer any questions you have about the area. The food is decent. The portions are very generous. You will not leave hungry. If you are arriving in the area or getting back late from a long day in the park, it is the only place still open. It is opened till 2 AM but closes at midnight if no customers are there. We are locals and have been to the hitching post many many times. Like anywhere else there are good deals and better deals on the menu. Jack's review regarding the facility is pretty accurate - they have a large open facility with a wooden dance floor, 2 large screen TVs and 2 bar tvs, 3 pool tables, dart boards, juke box, and on occcasion live bands and karaoke. Bring your kids and let them run around the floor...its OK! This is a family run business and a cross between self serve and full serve to keep costs down. Order at the bar and eat at one of the tables. The menu is all good, home made, and i think the pricing is reasonable. you get oversized servings, enormous burgers and fries, great home made daily specials, a full bar, generously proportioned drinks, and even $2 tall beers. you just have to know what to order. People are used to getting chips for free (out of a bag and salsa from a can) but when they are home made, you can't do that. My family has never had a bad meal or experience there- we always have fun and leave stuffed. Remember, this is a locals bar - friendly and inviting to everyone, but it is a bar folks so if you come on a friday or saturday night expect it to be a bit louder than during the week. you really can't go wrong here... read more

The foods okay, staff is friendly (enough) and the bar is alright. Overall, however, there is much room for improvement. Last time we came here, from the time we ordered and sat down, it took a good 30 minutes or so before the food came out. It got to the point where your eyes followed every tray of food out to everyone else's tables, hoping the next one might be you. Nope! We sat and sat and sat, listening to the drunken commotion from the bar until finally the food arrives. Most of it. The salads came out later than any of the hot food (what???) as mentioned above, the food tastes fine. Not a 5 star meal (it's all from Sysco), but I would give it another chance if I was hungry and out of options. There aren't many places to go in oakhurst... Just hoping next time I won't wait an hour or I'm walking out. Give it a try, the burgers are pretty tasty and they make a mean root beer float. read more

The Hitching Post was recommended to us by the owner of the cottage we stayed in during our mini trip to Yosemite. She recommended the burger and so hubby and I ordered two burgers. He went with the bbq burger which was topped with onions rings, bbq sauce. His burger was HUGE -- it was a little difficult to eat (had to use knife and fork!) HAHA. He ordered coleslaw and it was fine (nothing out of the ordinary). I had the cheeseburger with fries which was standard. The interior is a regular bar setting, you order your food in front and pay up front. The interior is OK, nothing special. Place is off the main highway and so it's not hard to miss. This makes it very convenient. It's a good spot, not the best but it works. read more

This is a down to earth bar/restaurant. My husband and I randomly chose this place after a long day of work. Automatically, we were greeted and served by the bartender, Charlie. She had her regulars but few outsiders...she knew weren't from town. I like her quick and easy going conversations. Their food is home-cooked, which is what we needed after work. I noticed the cook likes to add a dash of parsley...because there was a dash on every single dish we had. Not a problem but a signature that you will know if you have a dash of that parsley, it may be from that same cook...and you're in good hands. They had a juke box there but if nobody didn't put in money, you could hear the chatter and gossip in the room. But I would definitely come back with my husband and bring our son along. read more

We finally stopped here after driving by it a few times while in the area. The place is nothing special, just a large open room with plastic tables and chairs, but a GIANT hamburger. The prices were pretty silly, but I guess they are just trying to capture some tourist dollars. The chips and salsa were homemade and awesome, but not worth the $4.50 price tag. Their western bacon cheeseburger was $9 and all I could taste was american cheese and BBQ sauce. If you are in the area, you may be better off going a few more miles into Oakhurst, but we did not find much to like there either. read more

I came here several times after work while remodeling a cabin in Bass Lake. Its a pretty down to earth bar and grill. Its Awhannee so you gotta expect the local mountain residents to be frequent in a place like this. I had a few beers and had one of their monster bacon burgers. It was pretty damn good and the coleslaw that came with it hit the spot. If you stay long enough and have a few cold ones you'll start conversating with the locals...and believe me, it's priceless. read more

Stopped in for breakfast this morning one hour after they opened. Line was moving slow but nobody was complaining. One of the two girls working was freaking out shouting at everyone to be patient and having a full on meltdown. Pretty sure she was on something. Even though they moved slower than molasses not a single person was angry or complaining about the wait. The way the one girl was having a full on meltdown I was embarrassed for her. Finally get to the front of the line to order about 30 min later, to be told they are out of chicken fried steak, and Bloody Mary mix. Yet some old man regular with missing teeth had just walked in with 2 bottles of Bloody Mary mix 5 minutes prior and gave them to her? We left before we ordered at that point: oh, also there was a sign at the counter explaining they are understaffed and learning a new computer system so "bear with them" to the long haired cashier girl, nobody was impatient today. This place is "OK". We used to frequent this establishment more often but after 2 times of seeming like we were a nuisance, raw chicken in one of our meals, and just being treated like trash because we look different than the average patron we will not be back. Also, don't go there at night. Angry drunks a'plenty. You know the type, checking your woman out, and mean dogging you. Made us feel very uncomfortable. What can I say. The biscuits and gravy are really good. I have not been able to finish a meal because the portions are massive. Four of us went to breakfast here and walked away extremely full for around forty bucks. I will say however, the hash browns were a little over done for my taste. We had very specific request such as extra crispy hash browns and our eggs done is a specific manner as well as a pancake substitute for toast. They were friendly and accommodated us. Food was good; I got the Reuben. Service, not so much. The sign says to order from the bar and one waitress said to order from the bar because it's quicker. The waitress that was working the floor said to order from her because it's quicker after I waited 30 minutes to order from the bar. Then it took 50 minutes to get my order. I would've ordered more except while I was waiting 30 minutes to place my order I saw orders sitting on the counter for 15 minutes before they were delivered. Then the waitress was rude about us being slightly peeved about the wait. The girl who made the Bloody Mary's while we waited was awesome though, and that helped. But, it's ridiculous to have to wait almost 2 hours to get a sandwich that cost 12 bucks. Again, the reuben was awesome. Three stars just because the food and drinks were at least four stars but the speed was ridiculous (hire some help!!) and one waitress was super defensive. read more

Good little pool tournament on Wednesdays at 7pm. Great Bar! It's the only bar in the area worth going to. No drug sales going on here, unlike at the other "pubs" in Oakhurst. Clean bathrooms, unlike the others and doesn't smell like urine either. The owner is fantastic and has her a full plate to deal with. I miss the old bar though as it had original character.
