Chicken wings were okay but pricey. The side salad had no lettuce, only spinach leaves which would have been okay if most weren't wilted. The small pieces of chopped tomatoes, onions and bell peppers were slimy and mushy so I'm thinking they were old and been in the fridge for a while. I picked thru and only at a few of the baby spinach leafs. Waste of $7 for barely a handful. Nothing else in the bowl was edible They jalapeño poppers were small and there were only 5 for $9! We loved our breakfast at the Hitching Post! We got there before their actually opening time (later due to low staff) but they invited us in anyway. I had 3 eggs with hash browns, bacon, and a biscuit. Great food! Others at the table had the chicken fried steak, turkey sandwich, Denver omelette, and more. Everyone enjoyed their food. My partner and I went for dinner and drinks. The servers were stiff and distracted. The Margarita was watered down. The tacos were far beyond over cooked. The shells were so crunchy, they crumbled just picking them up. The ground beef was so burnt, it was like chewing pebbles. And they were remarkably lacking in flavor. I've had better food and service at Taco Bell. Last time I ate there, under the old management, the breakfast was really delicious. This is disappointing. I won't be going back. read more

It's definitely a saloon/family restaurant vibe inside. It's dark despite how bright the outside might be. But the staff is super friendly. They have a wide variety of food options, too. I've posted portions of the menu to this review. I ordered a burger with mushrooms and my son had a cheeseburger. My mom had a breakfast plate. Me and my fiancé love coming to the post. Great time morning and night. Recommend 10/10 times

God awful place. Extremely lazy staff. Even though they had a full staff we still had to order food at a bar which meant we had to wait for an elderly couple to make up their mind. After ordering we waited over 30 minutes for food that looked good but ended up being saturated in grease. Even though they had two servers and three families eating there we had to go to the bar for refills. Worst part was an extremely intoxicated couple coming which they proceeded to supply with more alcohol. They repeatedly screamed "f*ck". We asked to move outside but the waitress refused because it was a smoking area and we had kids even though no one was there. They promised to ask the drunk couple to leave but we ended up leaving before them. Amy the manager offered us a refund. So they would rather refund us then dealing with obscene customers. I love out of the way places that are old school. For its location it really can't be beat. It's a family run restaurant that has something for everyone. It has pool tables, darts, plenty of TV's. The staff is very friendly. The food is very good. French dip is very tender and no fat. My grandson got the chicken strips and there was nothing left so I assume he liked it a lot. The more I live up the hill the more reasons I try to not go down the hill. So I'm happy to have found the hitching post so I could stay up the hill. read more

Nice spacious restaurant family style with TVs if you want to watch a game. Generous servings. we've had hamburger and fries. Chicken and fries good senior menu. It's time I get back there. Yikes! This is a dive bar. Do not bring your children here. We brought our children and they were spooked by all the interesting characters. They had never been to a bar with people talking about going to jail before. There were drunk men using foul language and flirting with the waitresses. Hitching Post is closed right now. But they hope to open very soon so keep an eye out. And call before you take off to that location. I was able to speak with the owner. Apparently, when things shut down around Christmas their water heater busted and did a lot of damage. They had to close their doors and remodel due to the damage. They just lost a customer ! My wife and I went in for dinner the food was good. That wasn't the problem, when we got our bill we were charged for things we didn't order, the bill was adjusted, then we noticed the mixed drinks we ordered ( Vodka and Coke ) was charged $9.50 for the shot and $1.00 for the soda ? Then noticed the extra bacon I ordered for my sandwich the menu said it was $2.00 was changed $4.50 ? When I questioned it was told the menu prices don't match the register ? Rustic little locals spot within the tiny town of Ahwahnee. Been here on taco Tuesday and the taco's were outstanding. Came and ordered taco's on a non-Tuesday and the tacos were disgusting. Mentioned it to the person at the counter who took the order as we were paying our bill and she just shrugged her shoulders. Came back a couple of days ago and watched the locals pour in around 2:00pm. Clearly, they loved the place and played pool, ordered food and smoked in the attached smoking patio. Even though the food is inconsistent, I like it for the local flavor, the overall nice staff, and the red neck country atmosphere. The service on a Saturday morning was a bit slow (maybe they were understaffed?), but they aim to please. It felt like a locals hangout. Not Good!! What happened? A friend of mine recommended this place about 2 years ago. Showed me pics and all, looked good! NOT! Went this morning and wished i got hit by a car instead. A waste of time and MONEY!!! Couldn't even make the coffee decent. The food was super salty and greasy. I could understand if this place was actually a sports bar(like they claim they are) to where your drunk and you don't give a s#$% about how the food taste. We walked in and right at the bat my wife felt as if we weren't suppose to be there when the employee gave us this frown as we sat down. They couldn't even get the coffee right! Come on, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Anyway, you have been warned. I don't like to do this, but i felt they ripped off my TIME and MONEY for what they offer. Friends brought us here for lunch on a visit to Oakhurst before we left exploring nearby Yosemite National Park. The outside is nothing impressive, just a local western tavern. Inside, a dance floor and very long bar reinforces the impression this is a place for partying and drinking, not the food. Appearances can be deceiving, everything we ate here was outstanding. The burgers are awesome, gigantic, and so appealing one of our friends was almost eating the plate. My son enjoyed the wings, my salad was so large and so good, I couldn't finish my burger and shared it with my son. The french fries were outstanding. This place is ideal if you're just looking to stuff your face with comfort food and a nice cool drink served in a deep frozen pint pot. Called in at 2:00pm midweek and it was extremely quiet, so got excellent service from the staff who went out of their way to bring our food to the tented patio. The COVID tents are a bit utilitarian, probably better in the dark with lighting, and there's no view but the smokers patio was a nice touch, even though we don't smoke. The bacon cheeseburger was one of the best I've ever had and there was plenty of it, along with fries at a dollar extra. The menu posted on this Yelp site are 3 years old. Add around 3dollars to get the current prices. Because of the staff and good food 5 stars, but watch out for getting stiffed 3.5% when using a credit card. read more
