My burger, with fries, showing all of the goodness this "Famous Burger" has to offer. Yes, it's famous for a reason!

The Hitching Post is a family owned and operated restaurant, that offers great food, a full service bar, and a sports bar dining experience in Ahwahnee, CA, in Madera County, near the south end of the gold country, in California. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the full service bar, with the kitchen to the side. The dining room is absolutely GIGANTIC and very spacious. The dining room is spacious, and is furnished with tables, which offer comfortable dining for large groups. Decor is added by saws, picks and other artifacts from Madera County's logging and mining history. Gold country dining at the finest! From the "Burgers" section of the menu, I went with a "Famous Burger," with my side of choice was fries. Simply a great, staple, "old school" diner option. The slice of dill pickle on the side was simply amazing! The burger began as a third-pound side of tender, juicy beef, seasoned and cooked to perfection. It was interesting, as I didn't let the chef know exactly how I wanted my beef patty cooked, but he has talent and my beef patty was cooked perfect... I mean PERFECT! Such a delicious burger patty, grilled medium, full of flavor. The burger patty was placed on a toasted bun, lightly buttered and toasted to perfection. I asked for "everything" when I ordered my burger, so that's what I got... EVERYTHING! Sliced tomato, onion, pickle, and a simply GIGANTIC amount of fancy lettuce. What much more could you ask for on a delicious, "old school" burger? With a burger this delicious, I didn't need to add cheese, or top it off with mayonnaise or mustard, as it was simply amazingly delicious by itself. Oh yes... a slice of dill pickle on the side. Yowza! The fries... my goodness, the chef has talent, as the fries were simply delicious. Crispy, golden brown on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside... my kind of fries. Not to mention there was a mountain of fries, which should keep a NFL linebacker or a Madera County lumberjack satisfied until dinner. Me? ... just a humble "foodie..." I was happy until dinner. Burger and fries... simply delicious! When you're looking for serious amazing dining in eastern Madera County, and the southern end of California's gold country... The Hitching Post is YOUR restaurant for fine dining, any way you look at it. Five star dining, any way you look at it.

    Hitching post burger. I know.

This is one of our must stops when in Ahwahnee. We visit 3-4 times a year and this place never disappoints! The food is delicious and serving size is great. The staff has always been kind and friendly. It's always nice and clean and has a very good family hang out vibe.

What a hidden gem!!! I've passed this place several times when visiting family and never thought to stop. You order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. The place is big and everything is kept clean. We ordered, two egg breakfast with sausage white toast and hashbrowns, two French toast and biscuits and gravy. I wasn't to keen on the French toast. The food was good and everyone was friendly. One star removed because their games kept taking my grandson's quarters lol.

Shout out to the new owners of the Hitching Post Bar & Grill . The food was Amazing ‼‼‼ I had the Rueben sandwich. My parents had the fried chicken salad and patty melt burger . The portion and presentation was worth the money .

I really appreciate the service and ambiance at the Hitching Post, it's has great local flavor! I've been coming here for many years and it has only gotten better with time. On my most recent visit I noticed they have added a shuffle board table and live music on Saturday nights. They are also quite popular for their Friday night karaoke. My servers Sara and Camile were lovely and provided me with everything I needed to have a fun time!

The chips were made in-house and had that clean fresh taste. The salsa was spicy but we couldn't stop eating. (4.5 of 5) Their prices are high for where they are located and our food didn't come with rice and beans. We agreed that the confirmation of a great Mexican restaurant comes from the rice and beans they serve. (4 of 5) Rib Eye Tacos: The rib eye tacos feature juicy, richly marbled steak cubes piled into warm home-made flour tortillas, topped with caramelized onions, cabbage and guacamole. The tender pieces of meat had great complexity, was well-charred, and had a nice mouthfeel. It breaks down easily with minimal chewing and the taste lingers on my tongue after each bite. (4.75 of 5) Fish Tacos: From street-food to table-top specialty, this is a popular Mexican dish. Their Ensenada-style beer-battered halibut served on homemade corn tortillas with pineapple-cabbage slaw and garlic chipotle sauce is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Squeezing a generous amount of lime juice added a bright, sharp sour taste that cuts through and balances the overall flavour. (4.5 of 5) Atmosphere: The place is clean with table and chairs well spread out, but the music blaring over the speakers made conversations difficult. This eatery looks out onto the parking lot. (2 of 5) Location: This is located in an anchor business area so FREE parking is easily accessible. Service: Adrian was our server. He was genuine, unpretentious, and sincere. He's only been working there for 6-years, but he may be the anchor to this family-owned eatery. Plazuelas Mexican: A passion for honest, uncomplicated, and authentic flavours.

It feels complete and I LOVED their aguachile here!!! Spicy, zesty, chilled, and generous with the onions and cucumbers and avocado. It took longer to come out for sure, but when I tasted how fresh it was, it totally made sense. Each bite was humongous since I needed each component to make it perfect and I am so glad they gave enough toppings to complete each bite. AVOCADO IS NEEDED FOR SURE, the creaminess calmed down the spice and it was just delectable. It was so spicy that I had some stomach pain after, but the shrimp was also definitely basically completely raw as well. Take that as you will but every shrimp was perfectly deveined and this aguachile was a 1000/10. Thank you to the cooks and cashiers here! All super nice. We asked for more tostadas and they gave it to us free of charge. When the cashier told the cook, he was like "IS IT DELICIOUS" and we shouted across the restaurant that IT IS SUPER DELICIOUS. This will be my first pick when I go back! Most people got the burritos and stuff and those looked bomb too.

They have overflow towards the left when you drive up the incline. You wait to be seated. We were offered an inside table but requested a patio table instead. They accommodated us but it took an additional 10-15 minutes. It was WORTH the wait. The patio is nicely shaded and offers a better experience than say..... Denny's. I ordered their "fantastic" chicken fried steak, 2 eggs over easy, 2 pancakes, and country potatoes. Everything was great! Our server was an awesom dude. You will know it's him when he addresses you as "Amigo." Love you man! Coffee was good and strong and they offered shelf stable 1/2 & 1/2. They have Tobasco, Cholulu, and I believe he said Tapatio. I went with the Cholulu and it was an awesome addition to the CFS. We loved this place. It fueled us up for the grueling hike we did. 5* !!!!! Fortunately, it doesn't suck too bad. It's exactly what you would normally expect from Taco Bell, but like, thirty percent less of it. The food is prepared correctly. It is hot, and fresh. But the portion sizes are just never quite what they're supposed to be, or what they would be if you ordered them from any other Taco Bell storefront. For example, I recently ordered a Build Your Own Veggie Cravings Box on the app with a Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme, a Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito, a Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes, and a Mt. Dew Baja Blast. Both the potatoes and the burrito were so undersized that I was able to open up the burrito, dump all of the potatoes into it, and easily wrap it back up. In fact, I've probably done this the last four times I came here. There was plenty of extra room in the bean burrito for the entire order of potatoes-- and there definitely should not be. The crunchwrap that comes in the box is not advertised as any kind of miniature version, but in reality, it is. If I had paid the menu price of six dollars for the crunchwrap alone, I probably would have been upset, but of course, that's how much I paid for the whole box. Aside from the sometimes comically small portion sizes, this Taco Bell is solid-- the prices, flavor, service, and quality are all still there.
