Couple months ago we had issues with wires being chewed up in the engines and brought it in, and Mario was able to fix it within a few hours and charged a very reasonable pricing. This time, we had a loose under carriage that came off the bottom of the car that was scraping the road when we drove. It took just a little over an hour for him to fix it for us, even though they were very busy that day. He didn't charge us anything and told us that it could be due to our oil change place not securing everything back in place tight. It is so refreshing to work with a business owner with integrity and cares about their customers. We will be coming back for any other services we need in the future. read more

I bought my 94 Toyota 4Runner nearly a year ago and understood there were several problems with it, but I could never identify them correctly and kept replacing part after part trying to nail it down. I took it to Autozone and other mechanics but no one had a solution. Then I was referred to Hitchcock Auto Service in Concord when I was checking out a nearby shop. The owner, Mario, was very honest about the time it would take to diagnose and fix the truck and communicated his confidence in working with older Toyotas as he had done so for over 20 years. I was reluctant to drop close to $3k, but I figured I would keep the truck and get it repaired rather than look for another vehicle that might give me worse problems. Throughout the time it took to fix the truck, Mario was very patient and willing to explain everything to me about what was wrong with it, what it needed, why it was needed, and how long it would take. My 4Runner still starts up perfectly after a few months since the repair and honestly saved me the headache of having to sell and look for a new car. I got to keep my favorite truck and found a great mechanic for any maintenance or repairs I need down the road. I can't recommend Hitchcock Auto Service enough especially if you have an older Toyota. I've been taking my cars to Mario for years he is always honest with me and reasonable with his pricing. Sure you can save a little cash going to a larger establishment that may have more technicians but you won't get the quality and honestly of working with someone with integrity. He has done everything from break repairs to tire fixes and problem solving all kinds of weird sounds and noises we would hear in our older cars. He's also the reason we bought our Subaru and got rid of a jeep that kept giving us issues. There is nobody else we would trust with our cars in the greater bay area. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! MARIO THE OWNER SCAMMED ME. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY HIS KIND CARING BEHAVIOR IT WILL CHANGE!when I took it to get diagnosed because it was leaking coolant. First he said the engine needed to be changed and I said no there's no way the engine is good in this car runs well. It's just leaking. He looked then further into the engine and said oh I see a leak coming right here from the radiator so it's the radiator and he gave me a quote of between 700 and $900 then later he called saying that it also needed a water pump so I said go ahead and fix the water pump too which raise the cost up to almost $1700 which he charged me the higher amount of 900 to fix the radiator. And then another 800 for the water pump. I spoke with him about the window, not being able to roll up and down and he said he would look into it and try to fix it for free and roll throw it in since I was paying so much, he quoted me $600 to actually fix it so he ended up just propping it up and it would stay locked closed and not slide down and he did that because he charged me 1700 to get the car fixed which was the higher amount, but I was appreciative. When I got the car back, I did notice that it looked like the cooler reservoir had been changed. It was not the original. I did not question it. I am a woman. I didn't know. I was like maybe they changed it for some reason. The aftermarket reservoir ended up springing a leak within a month. I left him a message. He never called me back. I finally got a hold of him three weeks later at that time he was very rude. His attitude had changed from nice and he immediately was on defense I told him I had a picture of the original reservoir and what the inside of the engine look like he tried to convince me that they did not change the reservoir, but I have the picture to prove that he did. in the end, I paid all the money to have my reservoir took out of my car for some reason and I have a aftermarket reservoir. on the phone with him. He was very sketchy saying oh I would never choose it aftermarket reservoir I would go get one the junkyard to replace it because I have a Cadillac right here that has a black reservoir very sketchy, just to believe maybe he takes parts from people who doesn't know cars, specially women, and replaces them with cheap aftermarket parts and keeps the good parts really I have no idea why someone would've done this. He definitely scammed me and I'm gonna be going to the Better Business Bureau. it's unfortunate. I had to take a loss just because I didn't know and these are the mechanics that take advantage of women, that just don't know. And it was confirmed by another mechanic that it recently been changed and it definitely was an aftermarket the most inexpensive reservoir. please avoid this place. Specially if you don't know about cars, Mario is a scammer and runs his business and a terrible way. I knew when he did not ask me to bring the car in to have it looked at and he wouldn't answer my calls. There was a problem, he is just a plain liar and takes advantage of people and that's how he makes his money and it's very sad. Because no one can afford to be scammed I'm a single mom with three kids and it's unfortunate because he was a very nice guy when he took my car and took my money, but when I made the complaint that totally changed, not even offer to look at the car again. Very knowledgeable and honest. I hope this never changes. I sent a friend of mine that had a water pump problem with her 9 year old Toyota Sienna to hitchcocks. She was treated with respect and was given a detailed assessment of the needed repair & costs which turned out to be very fair in regards to the extensive work involved. Her son needed a brake job a week later on his vehicle and they brought it in to hitchcocks. I hear they did a great job at a very reasonable price. I've moved away from the East Bay up to the Sacramento area. When I did live there, I was shocked for their honesty when a Diamond certified auto repair very close to Hitchcocks location wanted to screw me out of $1450 for a brake job before a road trip. I won't mention their name, but their initials are A**E. charge me $75 for the inspection And promised to take the $75 if we had them repair our brakes. I went around the corner to Hitchcocks to get a second estimate. We left our van there, they called us a couple hours later and said we had approximately 15-20000 miles left on our front pads and at least 30000 on our rears. The brake master cylinder that Acme wanted to replace was inspected and said to be in perfect order. There was just a normal buildup of grime on the outside of the Cylinder And topped off the reservoir with brake fluid. No charge, Break inspection free. Seriously who does this anymore? read more

Never trust a Diamond Certified review. The Wife Brought our Van into a Diamond Certified garage for a brake inspection before a road trip and they wanted close to $800 for necessary work on pads and brake master cylinder. Inspection was $75. Fortunately, Hitchcock's was right around the corner for a 2nd opinion. Their "Free" inspection discovered the front pads had 15,000 miles +- remaining and the rear, about 20,000. The Brake Master cylinder the diamond Certified garage wanted to switch out? Hitchcock topped it off with a couple oz of brake fluid and said it was fine. No Charge. Seriously, what Auto repair garage still does this?? Obviously they're Honest. read more

I have never had such a positive experience as I just had with Mario and his staff at Hitchcock auto service. Brought my car (4 yr old, 30k, sonata) to Hitchcock's for a tune-up & to check on a small oil leak. Tune up was thorough & well done. Mario, new owner, cleaned the underside but couldn't spot the origin of oil leak. Told me to bring it back in a week to take another look. Looked at it again & found a oil pan gasket problem. Valerie called & said that it would be a 350.00 repair. After talking to her for awhile, she volunteered to call the Hyundai dealer & to see if it would be covered under warranty or a recall item. YES, it is covered & she even made an appt for me in 3 days with the dealer. Because of her professional diligence, she saved me 350.00. What an asset she is for Hitchcock's! I bought in my 2000 Yukon for a good check-over. Having 175,000 miles on her I know that she needed some TLC to make sure she "keeps on truckin". As I feared, the lack of power was the fuel pump. I was referred to Hitchcocks Auto Service after asking around for a reliable mechanic. I have a 1956 Chevy that had been garaged for sevral years and was not running. Mike and his office staff help coordinate the tow and drop off with me, and my car was ready two days later. All this why he had a full shop and not much space or time to get to my car. Not only were they efficient, they were extremely helpful and communicated with me through the process. When Mike called me to say my car was ready, I asked him for the cost. I thought he was joking at first because it was more than reasonable. I saw all makes and models of cars in the shop being worked on, so it looks like they do it all. I found these guys here on Yelp and they are exactly the kind of mechanic that you hope to find: they're close; a mom n' pop operation and I believe that Mike, the owner, might be the most well mannered mechanic I've ever had the fortune of talking to. I called at 8, was able to drop my car off within 15 minutes and the car was ready at 12:30 p.m. Since I didn't get off work until after they had closed, I was able to pay over the phone when they called and they made arrangements for me to pick the car up after hours. yes my car is running fine but not once did i get a call on how much money he was putting in my car till the last day when it's fixed then I get a grand total! That's not how this works i will NEVER go here again, you need to tell someone what your doing to their car to make sure they can afford it ! the one part to fix my car was about 40 $ and somehow I walked out spending WAY over what i really should have, along with mike adding multiple things to my car with out asking me , don't go here save yourself the stress . My family has been bringing there cars to Hitchcocks for at least 10 years! I bought a used car that had been sitting for quite awhile. I took it to have it smogged & it failed due to some smoke coming from the tail pipe. So of course, I brought it over to Hitchcocks to see what was wrong. Mike took a look at it & couldn't find the problem the SMOG center failed me for. He suggested that maybe I hadn't driven it long enough before having it tested. He referred me to a SMOG center close by, gave me a discount coupon, and didn't even charge me for the quick diagnostic! Best part, he was right & it passed SMOG that day. Thanks Mike! August, 2011, I brought in my 1999 Honda Odyssey into Mike. This auto shop came highly recommended by a friend. My van had two problems. It would suddenly die for a few minutes for no reason and then start again plus it made a loud thunking noise when I went into reverse. Mike was super nice. Said he would investigate online, too, if he didn't find anything. He had the car a day and couldn't solve either problem. He charged me $180 or so for some minor maintenance that could help prevent the van from dying, and I was on my way. I headed to San Diego. The van died on the freeway near downtown San Diego in rush hour shutting off everything electrical. Had it towed to a Honda dealer. It was a warranty recall defect I didn't know about. It was fixed by Honda at no charge. Mike should have been able to check on that. It could have been catastrophic for me when the van completely died on the freeway, but I kept my head and coasted down a ramp using my emergency brake. It was a horrible experience that didn't have to happen. Now almost a year later, I took the van into my Honda dealer for service. The thunking noise means the transmission is going out. It could completely go out any day anywhere. Since August, I have driven that van far from home many times and could have been stuck. Come to find out on the internet, transmission problems are a common problem of this model. Mike should have been able to find that out, too. I will be replacing the van immediately. Bottom line for me is these independent guys are great for maintenance perhaps, but if something unusual is going on with the car/van, the dealer knows my vehicle best and will know what to do.
