Chick cake
Anna D.

Pastries from Hiss Bakery are an Easter tradition at my house. The little chick cakes are absolutely delicious and when we hand them out as gifts, everyone raves about how good they are. I've never had something at this bakery that I haven't loved, and I feel good supporting a local business.

Personable staff but selection was very limited. Only had a few donuts and the cinnamon rolls were only sold by the half dozen

Donuts might honestly be one of humanity's greatest achievements, and I take my donut hunting very…read moreseriously. Since I'm always DoorDashing around Akron, I've driven past Jubilee Donuts more times than I can count. One morning, after dropping my wife off at work, I finally gave in and decided it was time to see what I'd been missing. Walking in, I was immediately greeted by a display case full of donut greatness. Rachel, who was working at the time, was super friendly and started listing off flavors like crème sticks, glazed, chocolate glazed, jelly-filled, apple fritters--you name it. At that point, I knew I was in trouble (the good kind). I went with one of my all-time favorites: a Bavarian cream-filled donut. I've had a lot of these in my life--like, a lot--and this one easily ranks near the top. Soft, fresh, packed with flavor... basically gone way faster than I'd like to admit. They sell donuts individually or by the half or full dozen (dangerous knowledge), and there's even a seating area if you want to sit down and fully commit to your donut decisions. Prices are super affordable too, so your wallet won't judge you--even if your diet might. Bottom line: if you're anywhere near Akron and even thinking about donuts, do yourself a favor and stop here. Your future self will thank you... probably with powdered sugar all over your shirt.

We went through the drive-through and got super friendly and fast service. My son had the chocolate iced cream stick, filled with chocolate cream. He had it ALL over his face, hands, and pants. A true testament to how good it was. I almost licked his fingers myself. (Almost!)

The…read moreBake Shop in Ghent is tucked away and has a wonderful front and side patio/porch to sit on which really made the vibe great. I got in there about 30 minutes before closing so they were pretty cleared out of stuff and they mentioned how they stop serving lunch/sandwhiches 30 minutes before closing so just a heads up on that. The service was great and the two ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful. It appeared that some of their refrigerated items may be bought for sale and not baked in house but all their baked goods in that case were made by them and had a large selection of baked goods from breads, biscotti, bars, tarts, cakes, and more. it also looks like they offer made to order/custom cakes so that is pretty cool! Although not pictured, we tried several macarons and they had a subtle flavor, nothing overpowering which was nice. We also tried their mini tarts in lemon and cherry, as well as their apple crumble in phyllo dough. This was interesting and I have never seen it wrapped in phyllo dough. We also tried the carrot cake which after unpacking it, I do not believe it was made in house as it was part of the other refrigerated goods. Everything was light and pretty tasty. I would give this place a try if you are in the area as it has a lot of charm and variety of goods so I am sure you can find something you will enjoy!
