a bakery with a variety of baked goods
John M.

This is an update of the review I posted the other week after visiting Stacked Akron for the first time. (My original review is below). I went to Stacked Akron again on a Saturday morning and ordered a pastry item. Again, it was very hard to say no to all the delicious looking pastries and deserts. I bought a maple covered swirl, like a mini cinnamon roll. It has a name I can't remember. I received the same kind service. The pastry item this time was fresh and moist, not dry. I really enjoyed it. On display and for purchase were some really cute and creative holiday cookies. St. Patrick's Day is coming up and for sale were some St. Patrick's Day chocolate covered pretzels and decorated cookies of all sorts. Their early weekday hours makes coming in early before work to pick up cookies to bring to work that day possible. I plan to come back to buy some of their holiday cookies for folks at work because they look very creative and delicious. A sweet delight. I am writing this review as I sit in Stacked Akron on an early Saturday morning and as a walk-in customer looking for a cup of coffee and breakfast pastry. Stacked Akron had such a variety of pastries and desserts that it was hard to choose what to buy and eat. I went with the cinnamon roll with cream cheese and a medium coffee. My sweet tooth wanted to try the cream filled doughnuts and cupcakes that looked decadent but my better, wiser self had the upper hand and kept me in check. The cream cheese that topped the cinnamon roll was sweetly delicious. The staff oddities heat up the roll for me. The cinnamon roll seemed a day old--it was a little dry and stale--but I wasn't expecting anything more since Stacked Akron seems to cater more toward providing desert food for parties etc and not folks like me. While I enjoyed my coffee and pastry probably ten groups of people walked in and then out with their cake etc orders. Some of them were so excited when they saw their cake they couldn't contain their excitement and exclaimed how wonderful it looked. Stacked Akron serves Muggswigz coffee, a local and longtime roaster from Canton, Ohio. It was a good cup of drip brewed coffee. The dining area is a pleasant place to stay and enjoy a treat and coffee. There was no music playing and the silent, melodic roar of the traffic on Canton road was surprisingly peaceful. The dining area is simply and artfully decorated with plenty seating for adults and kids alikOne of the walls is covered in vinyl record sleeves of bands from classic rock musicians. The staff were very down to earth, super friendly, and very willing to host guests like me who walk through their front door.

The Bake Shop in Ghent - Birthday cake

The Bake Shop in Ghent

The…read moreBake Shop in Ghent is tucked away and has a wonderful front and side patio/porch to sit on which really made the vibe great. I got in there about 30 minutes before closing so they were pretty cleared out of stuff and they mentioned how they stop serving lunch/sandwhiches 30 minutes before closing so just a heads up on that. The service was great and the two ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful. It appeared that some of their refrigerated items may be bought for sale and not baked in house but all their baked goods in that case were made by them and had a large selection of baked goods from breads, biscotti, bars, tarts, cakes, and more. it also looks like they offer made to order/custom cakes so that is pretty cool! Although not pictured, we tried several macarons and they had a subtle flavor, nothing overpowering which was nice. We also tried their mini tarts in lemon and cherry, as well as their apple crumble in phyllo dough. This was interesting and I have never seen it wrapped in phyllo dough. We also tried the carrot cake which after unpacking it, I do not believe it was made in house as it was part of the other refrigerated goods. Everything was light and pretty tasty. I would give this place a try if you are in the area as it has a lot of charm and variety of goods so I am sure you can find something you will enjoy!

The people are incredibly friendly, not only the workers but everyone who was there which shows the audience this cafe attracts. It was awesome to see the wide arrangement of drink options from hot to cold to energy infused drinks with Red Bull. They also had a TON of house baked goods. Scones, muffins, cinnamon rolls, strudels and more. They even have lots of various breads to choose from and cakes! They have inside and outside seating which is charming and simple. The food is great and the drinks are high quality and refreshing. The cinnamon rolls warmed up in the microwave were probably some of the best I've ever eaten. The cream cheese frosting is to die for as well as the strawberry rhubarb filling (I need a jar of it). Muffins are SO MOIST and great texture/flavors. I also really liked that by the cash register they had some pre wrapped baked goods that were slightly discounted meaning they were probably leftovers from the previous day or what not so I like that they do not waste! Overall, if you are in the area or a short drive away please stop in and you won't regret it!
