Feeling nostalgic, I ordered a small almond flavored white cake with raspberry filling to pick up today 7/3/2020, for a small gathering tomorrow. 12 years ago, I was at Reeves for a cake tasting and was quite pleased. I ordered over the phone and that was fine. I was so excited about the cake, I wanted to try a slice prior to my guests as no one would ever know. So, I wanted to taste each part of the cake prior to having a complete bite. The buttercream frosting tasted nice. It had the perfect amount of sweetness, although the frosting was a little hard. The raspberry filling was DREADFUL! It tasted artificial, like a cheap brand that came from a can. I've made raspberry filling several times before, and expected this filling to taste familiar. It did NOT. It reminded me of the artificial flavoring of raspberry zingers, no good. The flavor of the cake was a nice as it was a light almond taste that was not at all overpowering. The actual cake was VERY DRY AND VERY CRUMBLY! It tasted as if they baked it several days to a week prior, assembled, frosted and put in the fridge to wait for someone to purchase it. I did also post photos. NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER ORDER FROM REEVES CAKE SHOP. I ordered this for a small gathering and I didn't want to spend the time baking the cake myself with all the other party duties I need to complete. Unfortunately, I will have to bake a similar cake, but making the raspberry filling from scratch (which is super simple to do) as I refuse to serve this dry, artificial filling flavored cake to my dearest friends. I saw all the great reviews about this cake shop and being new to the area I called them to make my daughter's birthday cake .... It was a simple quarter sheet cake with a guitar and some musical notes and writing on it ... The cake was still being decorated when I arrived at the designated pick up time (alittle irritated because the woman that took my order told me several times if I wasn't there by 1:00 they would be closing up and I would not get my cake)... The decorative work was very nice, but the cake (marble) was dry and the icing (buttercream) slightly grainy.... The chocolate ganache filling tasted good, but was layered too thin.... I have know them for over 40 years, they did my wedding cake, my son's wedding cake, baked many dozzen cookies for me, as well as special occasion items. I can not say enough about there work and cake creations that put out. I'm an very unhappy with my experience with Reeves cake shop! 1st of all this was a very special occasion, my daughters wedding! A very exciting day! Everything was perfect.... except for our cake/cupcake order. I was very specific in the colors that I wanted , none of which was done. My daughters cake topper was plain with absolutely no decorations at all, as well as the cupcakes. The cupcakes didn't even have enough icing on them. The cookies were decorated as they were supposed to but quality was poor, they were hard, icing wasn't adhering. We called them to let them know they didn't follow through with what they were supposed to and they said bring the cake topper back , we can fix that, but we can't do anything about the cupcakes . Well I'm sorry but this was an expensive order and your telling me you not try to fix your mistake? Took the cake topper back and they threw some 'decorations ' on there. It was sloppy. They gave me a little container of edible sprinkles , you know so we could try and decorate the cupcakes ourselves since it was too much of an inconvenience for them to do what I payed them for. All in all I'm very unhappy and will not return business . I myself am a business owner and I would never treat a customer that way. They never offered a discount, a refund , Nothing! I've spent the last 5 years patronizing this bakery from birthdays, anniversaries, to mother's day and father's day. I have ALWAYS liked the cakes, but there's been one constant problem that absolutely troubles me. It's a person. I don't know her name, but she's one of the family members who takes orders when a customer comes in. I've always gone in to specify what I want on my family cakes, and I've seen her each time. She's also usually always there when my husband or I pick up our cakes. At first I thought it was just that she was having a bad day, but when it kept happening consecutively, and when my husband noticed her, I realized it was more than a bad day. My last occurrence was when I went in to order a small wedding cake. I wanted a small cake that served approximately 30 - 40 guests. I walked in, and there she was. I knew this was not going to be a good encounter. I was raised to respect my elders, and knowing that this lady's family is making money from my family's special occasions, I was not in the mood to play this game anymore. Yet, how was I going to deal with this lady and still respect her? I proceeded to tell her what I was looking for, and I needed her guidance. I had a theme, but I needed help tying things together. With her being the expert, I figured maybe I would see a better side of her professionalism and her personality. Once again, she was not helpful. I thought maybe it was because I wasn't spending thousands of dollars on a wedding cake, but as much as I've ordered cakes previously in person at over $40 a cake, I would think I could get a little respect as a regular customer. Not only was she not helpful, she was like a teenager on her first day of work. She wanted to get me done and out. She had very few suggestions. She didn't take time with me. Mind you, this is my wedding cake! I'm a bride. I'm starting a new life. I'm sentimental. I'm excited and I need guidance. End result, I felt obligated to order a quick cake and make her happy. I got home, discussed the situation with my fiancé, and he told me to call and cancel the cake. It's been 10 months and I now get my cakes from an awesome bakery who loves my business. Reeves lost out on a lot of money and a good customer who buys cakes for all occasions. Called to order a custom cake 3 weeks before my event and was told to email a picture of what I wanted. After a week of hearing nothing, I called again and was told they were very busy and would get back to me when they could. 3 days later, finally received a response so I placed my order with questions about delivery or pick up. 4 days before my event, crickets. No response or confirmation my cake would be made on time, or at all. Had to take my business elsewhere and couldn't get the cake I wanted because there was not enough notice for anyone else because I was waiting for Reeves to respond. Not impressed! I was prepared to put my order in after the today's bride bridal show in October, but unfortunately my family and I were ignored but their representatives. I went on both Saturday and Sunday to see if they would treat us the same way and they did. I was heartbroken because their cakes are so beautiful and I wanted to have them make my wedding cake. Process with caution!! I went to a cake tasting at their ship a few months ago and I really enjoyed it. However, I went to the bridal show two weeks ago and I was very displeased with their attitudes. NO ONE talked to my family & I! They funny this is we were ready to place an order right then and there! After 10 minutes of being ignored my family and I took our business elsewhere. I'm surprised this business is still open judging now how they treat their customers. My friend who's also engaged called and asked if their was a delivery fee for cakes needing delivered to Cleveland. They lady on the phone was very rude to her and said yes, $100, I men's you're in Cleveland. And the manager Rick responded to my email very condescending as if it was my fault they didn't talk to us.
