Best doughnuts around Akron! Super fresh and great variety. The gentleman at the counter (owner?) is always so pleasant, he makes my day whenever I stop because he's just so kind. Cake doughnuts are never dry and the amount of glaze/frosting is perfect. read more

Love this local, family-owned business with delicious donuts! They've kept some of the more trading ddonut choices that Dunkin Donuts didn't. Yum!!!! read more

Nice variety of delicious donuts and pastries including HUGE pastries like the plate sized apple fritter. The guy who owns the place is friendly and opens up early. read more

This place's setup reminded me of Dunkin Donuts, but the ones way back 30 years ago, with dim morning lighting & friendly Indian owner-operators, not like the Dunkin Donuts of today, with their fluorescent life-sucking lights, industrial bathroom cleaner smell and dirty staff who've never baked a thing in their life. The maple glazed whipped cream-covered long John was the single most indulgent thing I've ever eaten. The Apple fritter wasn't good - dry, with some sickly sweet artificial additive-tasting apple filling in the middle. And it was like $3 or some shit! Incidentally , the proprietor, upon my ordering said Apple fritter, commented suggestively to my husband, "She likes the big ones, does she?" and actually winked. Check out the old photos of the bakers on the wall, back in the.. '70s or so I guess it might've been. Very very cool. read more

Their donuts are out-of-this-world GREAT and their staff are SUPER friendly! The place itself has an old-school vibe that's very endearing. FYI, they are a CASH ONLY location; but to me, that adds to the experience more than it takes away. Their chocolate chip cookies are chewy and to-die-for as well! Everything you want from a locally owned donut shop. If you're in the area and they're open, stop in for a donut or two. You won't regret it. read more

Very friendly staff and the store has fresh donuts! Needs update on the store as it looks old but otherwise, the store looks clean

The donuts are top notch with always friendly service. The chocolate glazed and powdered cream sticks are as good as you can find anywhere.

Great and friendly service and some of the freshest donuts I've had. It is Cash only but there is an ATM on site. Very clean and kept inside. read more

Delicious donuts! Fresh and taste like great old fashioned recipes. The elderly man at the counter was a ray of sunshine. The cute diner seating was understandably closed due to current pandemic but there was an ATM available since I had no idea they don't accept credit cards. Mr Louie is as cool as a fan! Very nice guy! I was in Akron after 40 years and wanted a Maple Cream Stick. Unfortunately Krispy Kreme no longer sells Maple Cream sticks. A family member to me to try N Hill Doughnuts and I am so glad she did. The Maple Cream Stick took me back to childhood memories. I have eaten them every day while in town. Very nice family run business. Go support!! read more

Quintessential Akron Ohio locally owned business! This place has been around seems like forever, why? Classic, delicious and fresh donuts with amazing service. *cash only* read more

My wife picked up some on her way to work. We were looking for a local place for donuts and the reviews were all great for the maple cream sticks (since Krispy Kreme doesn't make them anymore). The donuts were great, especially the maple cream sticks and the crullers. She said the older gentleman working was super nice and made it even more worthwhile to support. We will be back. read more

"A shining beacon of conscientiously crafted baked dessert dough, fantastically fried, providing patrons with some solace from the harsh world besieging its borders." - Me Meal (*****): 2 French Crullers, mes amis. Oui, oui! These were light, fluffy, and perfectly yeasty with that classic-cruller-crimp. (I'm not sure if that's a real thing.) Ambiance (*****): It looks like an old diner. It was the only time I've been there, and it was slow. Not sure how it gets when it is busy... but it was nice and warm, since the evening got a little chilly. It is pretty awesome that the doughnuts are made on site! Service (*****): Nice lady! read more

North Hill Donuts - A shining beacon - Donuts Near Me - Akron, Ohio

I have a childhood friend that I don't see for years sometimes. When we do have the good fortune to spend time together it's as if we didn't have time apart. The memories and the connection are timeless. North Hill Donuts is like that. An old fashioned sweet shop with staff that are still here from when this place was a Dunkin Donuts. The Donuts however are killing that other place. Possibly the nostalgia makes me savor the flavor more? Possibly the friendly folks that give you the feeling of coming home again made me eat 2 donuts and a chocolate chunk cookie before getting home? Either way, I wish I still lived close to this place. Well maybe not? I'd need a whole new wardrobe. "Mmmmmm Donuts!!!!"- Homer Simpson read more

This is an old style donut shop of the type that, if you appreciate a good donut, you'd drive from New York to Akron to patronize. Get it? These are some of the best donuts I've had and Louie, the owner, is a class act. Don't miss this place. read more

This is a great local donut shop that's been around for years. Nothing fancy about the place just great fresh donuts and coffee. Love the old school bar counter and don't forget to order the giant donut, it's bigger than your head. We ordered a dozen donuts plus some of their chocolate chip cookies, a couple of bear claws and apple fritters. Simply delicious. Who doesn't love donuts! I can only comment on the glazed coconut donut, which was very solid (not literally though). I am going to guess that their other donuts are equally as good. My donut had a nice crunch to the glazed shell when biting in, then a medium density middle. Made a delicious addition to my morning today! read more

North Hill Donuts may or may not be the best donuts in Akron. I don't know, and honestly, I don't care. If you're wandering around North Hill and you're jonesing for something that isn't crack or titty bars, then this is your place! Donuts here are by the textbook, fresh daily (and sometimes they seem to have batches done in the middle of the day, too), and without pretension. Hey, could anyplace make it in North Hill if they were snooty? No, and that's what I love about this neighborhood. Honest donuts, honest prices, good coffee, counter help that smoke four packs a day and sounds like Darth Vader. I love love love the bearclaws! Caters to "real" people instead of the suburban dickheads that live in just east in Tallmadge. And sometimes, you need the humility of real life way more than you need donuts alone. read more

OLD SCHOOL IS IN THE HOUSE!! As we were driving down the street, I noticed this donut shop out of the corner of my eye. I made a mental note and decided that I would look them up later. When I checked them out on Yelp, I noticed that they had few, (although positive) ratings and even fewer photos. I also noticed that their hours were from 4 am until 9 pm. Is that a typo? Those are some very generous hours and they left me intrigued. I decide that before we head out of town, we should try these donuts. Knowing that I might get into a little trouble, I also decide to mitigate damages before anything even happens. That way, I can walk in guilt-free and order whatever I want. Yes!! I prepare a couple of smoothies made from fresh turnip greens, nectarines, banana and blueberries that we finish enroute.. Now I'm ready! The bakery is a very simple building that seems to have been there for years. It was one a Dunkin Donuts. Ewww! As we enter, I notice that the bakery is divided into two sections, (eat in and take out). The eat in counter is for those who want to have one of their breakfast sandwiches while take out is for those just picking up donuts. We proceed to order a variety of treats such as chocolate and traditional donuts, donut holes, and an almond pastry. I ask if she has anything close to a cake donut and the glazed cruller is suggested. After returning to the car, we try the donuts. OMG! The donut holes are very light and airy and just seem to collapse as they touch my mouth. I found myself popping them in like raisins. Thank goodness I only purchased half of a dozen! I then move on to the Cruller which I can only describe as a thing of beauty! Cake donuts are my favorite so this was my everything. It was so good that I exited the car and purchased another one, (for later)! In the mean time, we decided that we do not need breakfast because these "old school" donuts are quite substantial compared to the chain varieties. You will only need to eat a couple before feeling very satisfied. My husband and I both agree that these are some of the best donuts we have ever tasted. They are just a quality product, perfectly executed and definitely worth a visit. We actually went out of our way to the opposite side of town for these donuts and it was absolutely a great decision. Two thumbs up! Whoop! Whoop! ***This establishment only accepts cash. read more

WARNING! ALL OTHER DONUTS WILL TASTE FLAT AFTER ONE BITE I have eaten a lot of donuts. I'm not proud, I'm just saying that I have an advanced pallet for pastry. For years I was a consultant, and made an point of finding local pastries to take in for the first day of work. From the Southwest to New England I've had donuts from all over the US. North Hill Donuts are the best. CREAM STICKS - Maple Cream Sticks - are TO DIE FOR. I have not had a bad donut at North Hill- but I must admit, I keep going for the Maple Cream sticks - normally not my top pick but at North Hill - it's the very best way to start your morning. Or Afternoon... It certainly wouldn't hurt to make this a stop after work to start your evening... Maybe keep a few in a little bag to enjoy after your night out. And thank the gods they open before five am, so there is no reason to ever have coffee alone. WORTH THE CALORIES. read more

Just went for the first time today after seeing it on the drive home a couple of days ago. I went back with my wife. I love the way it looked from the outside, with stools and bar to sit at. I went in and was greater by the most friendly older gentlemen. I told him it was my first time and he gave me an overview. Eventually it choose a coconut covered, a glaze, and then a chocolate glaze and a peanut covered ( because he had just made those). Amazing donuts, it rivals my past favorite and only loses because I can't create my own with bacon on top. Anyways, awesome place that I will be returning too soon! read more

Went to North Hill Donuts today for the first time. We ate at the counter tried Cinnamon buns and donuts with coffee and hot chocolate. The coffee is good but if you are looking for some mocha, half-skim latte I left my testosterone at home coffee this is not the place for you. It is an old school donut shop with quality donuts. They do something strange there...they actually make the donuts fresh one-site! No having them shipped in like other franchise shops now do with their donuts. I found the staff friendly and the store was very clean. I highly recommend North Hill take away or eat-in. read more

First time here this morning at 0500 in the morning picking up some donuts for my crew. The lady at the counter was extremely friendly. It is cash only so that curtailed my order a bit I only had $10 cash. But they got me three cream sticks and three glazed donuts plus a large coffee. Cream sticks were absolutely wonderful and so are the glazed. I would give this 5 stars so I really don't mind the cash only deal but the coffee could be stronger. Overall a great little donut shop! read more

I now have two places I can purchase the best cream sticks I have ever tasted... Michael's Bakery in Orrville, Ohio and now here at North Hill Donuts in Akron, Ohio. Well, the cream sticks here at North Hill Donuts are either a very close second to Michael's Bakery or tied for first place. Too difficult to tell. I would have to eat & compare them side-by-side. The only downside and consequential half-star demerit was the building and that when I arrived at 5 AM the floors had just been mopped and there was a rather unpleasant odor remaining. But the cream sticks themselves are nearly perfect. read more

The donuts were average at best, but I probably wouldn't even go that far. We just moved from Phoenix and have a tradition of donuts every Sunday morning from a little mom and pop place so we figured we'd give this place a go. The donuts were ALL very dry, like they were a day or two old, and we were there before 9am, so they shouldn't have been old by that point. The apple fritter is just dough filled with apple pie filling, which wasn't at all what I consider an apple fritter. The glazed donuts probably would have been good had they also not been very dry. We also got a large cinnamon roll, lemon filled and a few chocolate cake, none of which were finished. read more

Basic old fashioned style donuts. Almost every time I've been there, the help has been rude (which I dont really mind) and the donuts have been a bit old (which I do mind). They also dont take credit card, which they get very offended by if you ask. Even though Ive only had them later in the day and not-as-fresh, theyre still great. read more
