Have been going here for 20 some years and the Ramen is always outstanding, My wife had the Sukiyaki beef Ramen & I had the house Ramen. Both were delicious, my only concern would be to serve them hotter. The daishi flake broth was lukewarm. I'm a weirdo, I like my soup hot. Atmosphere: Cozy, often busy, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Popular Dishes: House Ramen, Spicy Miso Butter Ramen, Vegan Creamy Ramen, Hamaguri (Clam) Ramen. Highlights: Late-night service, flavorful broths, customizable toppings, and good value. Service: Offers dine-in, takeout, delivery, and curbside pickup.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty busy and there was a short line--moved quickly tho. I got the house ramen, and I thought it was on the salty side, but plenty of toppings. For a price of $17, I'd say it's pretty affordable in this economy. We sat outside so can't say much about the ambiance, but inside did seem crowded.

Hinodeya is always consistently delicious, no matter which location. Love that their ramen is tasty but also not too heavy. Also appreciate that they have very good vegan options that rival some restaurants' regular ramen. This location near Union Square is very convenient because it's open very late. The drawback is that it can be very crowded, which is why this time we had to sit outside. But it wasn't too bad since there are heat lamps. Service can be a bit slow, especially getting the check, but understandable due to the popularity. Excellent karaage too, somehow very crispy but not oily, heavy, or too thick at all. Last thing, when meeting friends at Hinodeya in the city, be sure to specify and go to exactly the right one!

Last Wednesday April 08,2026 My Friends And I Went Downtown San Francisco To Explore As We Decided To Have A Late Lunch At Hinodeya Ramen By Union Square And We Were So Lucky That When We Walk Inside There Was A Spot for Us. Cause Usually Its Hard To Get A Sit Specially Alot Of Patron's Come To Dine On The Said Restaurant. So when we were Escorted By The Staff To Sit And Gave Us The Menu And Decided To Order The Hinodeya House Ramen, The Gyoza Dumplings And Appetizer was The Endamame Sticks Wraped And Fried. As Always The Food Serving Was So Great And Savory The Staff Are Friendly And Courteus And The Restaurant Ambiance Is Clean And Prestine As It's My First Time to Dine Inside As This Is My Second To visit the said restaurant And I Highly Recommend it. Have Attached Some Photos So Please Check it Out.

Good ramen but in a really tight space. The tables are placed very tightly together and there's pretty loud music on the background. The positive is we only waited 10 minutes on a Friday night because there's so many tables that turn quickly. The negative is it's a little chaotic. We ordered the sukiyaki beef ramen, spicy miso ramen, and spicy edamame. The regular soup is really delicious but the spicy miso is not as satisfying.

Busy ramen joint with fast speedy service . Tight seating although enough room for 1:1 conversation. Food came out quick if your in a hurry. Come in with an empty stomach leave with a full stomach. Great flavors. Price is a little high but you are in SFO

I liked the broth. noodles had good bite but didn't like that the toppings were cold it just kinda made the whole bowl like warm. kind of a small space not great for large groups.

Maybe I was hangry and just not vibing but the food didn't help. It was bland and expensive for what it was and just not a good time. :(

Super good late night ramen spot in union square! Went on a Sunday night at 10:30 and it was super busy and lively! Outdoor seating was a great plus. Deviated from my regular creamy ramen order and got the yuzu zen and it didn't disappoint! It's much lighter and more citrusy. Quality high as always, love hinodeya.

After parking the car overnite at Mason O'Farrell and feeling hungry, we walked over to this ramen spot. We heard whispers of this but didn't expect much. Our group, a party of three, just wanted to eat. It's not in the greatest part of town but this place had a line at midnight. That alone peeked our curiosity. By the time we walked over, after parking, there wasn't much of a line left. We did wait a little. They had to clear the table. Noise level was high. Place was packed. Very narrow walking between tables. I felt like I was in a ramen restaurant in Japan. I got excited. The menu is not very big. Just a few selections. That made it easy to decide. And we all settled on their special House Ramen, Hinodeya Ramen. Dashi soup. Service was nice and friendly. And the food came out quick. Typical for any ramen place. The bowls were hot but that didn't stop of us from digging in to our delight. Noodles had a little chew in them carrying some of the tasty, creamy broth. The pork soft and tender was savory to my tongue. On this cold night I really enjoyed the broth going down my throat sore from the day working the show at the convention. It didn't take us long to finish the ramen. In fact, we were even thinking of ordering another round. We decided not to be foolish. We talked about how good it was before going to bed. We talked about it when we got up. And we talked about going back. Eventually we will.

Stopped by around 6pm for an early dinner and it was already pretty busy with a line. Make sure to enter your name on the iPad before waiting -- our wait was quick though, only about 10 minutes. We chose to sit outside since it was faster, and the heat lamps made it surprisingly comfortable. Service was friendly and efficient, and ordering through the QR code at the table made everything super easy. We ordered the chicken umami ramen, creamy vegan ramen, hot matcha, dash butter corn, and edamame -- everything was flavorful and really satisfying. The broth had a great balance and didn't feel too heavy. The dashi corn was tasty but a little on the salty side. Overall, a great spot for ramen with fast service and solid food.

Stumbled upon this place after ice-skating in Union Square and this hit the spot. I recently went to a trip to Japan and was missing Japanese food, so naturally I had to get ramen. I've been to their other location in Japantown. and it is easily one of my fav ramen spots. This location is nice because they open till very late. They had a projector playing scenes and sights of Japan, and it was fun to guess the places while we waited for our ramen. I got the Hinodeya House ramen and my husband got the clam ramen, but were very flavorful. The noodles had a good bite, and we finished everything including the soup.... Can't say we didn't like it haha I would come back here again if I'm in the area and craving ramen!

Takoyaki (4 pcs)
Sandy L.

It was surprisingly difficult to find a reasonably priced sit down lunch near Union Square that isn't burgers. Hinodeya was less than a 5 min walk away from Union Square. The interior is a bit smaller than expected. But they also have almost as much outdoor seating. There were open tables when we arrived around 11:30am or 12pm on a Friday. But they were a little busy and took a couple minutes before being acknowledged and seated. Since it was lunch time the service was probably a little slower than usual. We ordered the takoyaki to share ($7 for 4 pieces), the house ramen, and the spicy miso butter ramen. Takoyaki had good flavor! My Japanese friend approves. Each bowl of ramen is about $20-25. It's very filling! The egg is soft boiled perfectly. Pretty presentation. The spicy miso butter ramen's default spice level is very mild once you mix in the butter. It's very heavy on the green onion. The ramen was delicious and perfect for a cold day in SF. The check came in the form of a little blocky electronic tap to get pay machine. So if you're in a hurry it's easier to pay with card although you could probably use cash. I didn't see any signs stating otherwise. We didn't feel rushed. It was good ramen. Hinodeya is a solid choice.

I was by myself and wanted to have a quick eat. This place has unique ramen so I decided to come again (also SF/bay area only in the US). Since I was alone, I got to skip the line and only waited 15 minutes. The ramen was great. I would love to come again and try new one. Their duck chashu is SO GOOD. We were a large group of 15, including several kids, and we completely understand that the restaurant is small and accommodating a group our size can be challenging. We waited in line for almost an hour with around 6 children. During the wait, a staff member named Sue came outside, asked how many people were in our group, and handed us menus. Since it was our first visit, we were naturally asking questions and trying to understand the menu. Unfortunately, throughout the interaction, her body language and expressions felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was visible frustration and eye-rolling, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. Even after we were seated, the experience continued to feel tense. One of the toddlers in our group started crying briefly -- something fairly common with young children -- and we were told to "keep it low out of respect." While we absolutely respect other diners, the way it was communicated felt lacking in empathy, especially on a busy Mother's Day with families dining out. A small gesture of kindness or understanding could have gone a long way. Instead, my friend felt compelled to take the child outside, which was disappointing. Additionally, after being seated, we had to remind the staff multiple times to come take our orders. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the ramen itself was truly delicious and lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, which is why this experience was so disappointing overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customer service and hospitality matter just as much as the food experience. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal way to end our Mother's Day celebration.

We tried the Tonkotsu Ramen and it hit the spot. The broth was rich and flavorful without being overly salty, the thin noodles had a great spring to them, and the chashu pork was incredibly tender and basically melted in your mouth. Also don't sleep on the dessert. Dessert at a ramen spot sounds random, but trust me here. The matcha cream pie was fantastic, and the mochi donut with ice cream was equally good. The cucumbers were super fresh and crunchy, and the miso flavor wasn't overpowering. The hand roll was delicious too -- honestly, if we had a bigger appetite, we probably would've ordered a few more. For mains, we ordered the two most popular dishes: the tsukemen and the mazesoba. The tsukemen noodles were thick and tasty, and the broth was rich and flavorful, but I definitely found myself wishing there were more toppings or flavors to switch things up with each bite. After about halfway through the bowl, it started to feel repetitive just dipping the same noodles into the same savory broth over and over. My friend felt similarly about the mazesoba. It was flavorful at first, but once everything was mixed together, it became a bit heavy toward the end. That said, if you've never tried either dish before, I'd still recommend checking this place out! The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly, and I liked that you could join the waitlist ahead of time. Just be prepared -- parking in the area can be tough. We probably wouldn't come back since the noodle dishes weren't totally our personal preference, but I'm definitely glad we tried it.

The wait for a table was 20 mins or we can share a large table with random people and be seated immediately. We were hungry. We went with the large shared table. Pleasantly, there was more than enough room. There were at least 1-2 seats in between the three groups on each side that were there- a solo diner, a small family of 3, and my group of 4. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, my bf ordered Akamaru Modern, his sister ordered Miso, and I don't remember what her friend got- I think it was also Karaka spicy. My bf and I ordered the Treasure plate on the side to share and a side of spicy paste because I know Japanese spicy is barely spicy (from someone who grew up eating SEA spicy). Karaka Spicy had a nicely balance tonkotsu mouth feel and pork flavor. Broth was a little salty. I was correct to assume that it wasn't spicy because I used half of the side of spicy paste and I still didn't think it was spicy enough. Chashu was cooked fine. Notes: - I wished I would've asked if they could swap the thin noodles for the thick ones. I love the chew thicker noodles provide. - Noodles were cooked al dente. Akamaru Modern tasted very similar to Karaka spicy without the spicy. My bf used the other half of the spicy paste as dip for his toppings. He enjoyed it. Miso was a lighter broth (obvi) with a good umami flavor and was not watered down. Solid. She loved it. I have never seen her finish a whole bowl of ramen before. There was a server in training that took our order with the help of the trainer- he did great. Staff was attentive with our waters. Bussers were also quick to notice and remove empty plates and bowls regularly making for an easy clean up after we leave and kept the shared table clutter free. Interior was modern, but casual. They had an expansive menu with vegetarian choices, sushi, buns, karage, etc. and a surprisingly large array of alcohol. I would def like to be back to try some drinks.

The ramen is served in large bowls, which looks impressive at first, but the actual portion of noodles and toppings felt underwhelming for the price. At that price point, I expected more both in quantity and flavor. We ordered the Dragon Tantan ramen, which the menu describes as spicy. It wasn't spicy at all. We asked our waiter if we could have a little more heat, and he nodded and brought over a tiny dipping-bowl-sized portion of some red paste with no explanation. There was no mention that it would cost extra. After finishing our meal, we were surprised to see a $5 charge on the bill for the "extra spice." We genuinely thought it was complimentary, and if it wasn't, that absolutely should have been communicated before serving it. The lack of transparency was disappointing and unnecessary. Overall: mid food, mid service, and not worth the price -- especially during such an exciting weekend in the city. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles..
