Hinodeya Ramen (House Ramen) at Spicy Level Koko-Kara.
Shih Fa K.

The service was better the last time I came here, but the food kind of made up for it, so my rating remains unchanged. Now, to the food, I came in feeling like a hot broth, but I saw the Summer Specials menu, and I could not pass up on the Summer Snow Cold Ramen: the broth was absolutely delicious, and the spinach noodle substitute was an excellent choice. I really liked the Kabocha and the mushroom. The fried tofu skins were okay, but I think if I were to have it again, I would substitute chicken for an extra $2. The tofu skins were a bit sweet. The ambiance was typical of a Hinodeya.

Wonderful ramen spot! Perfect broth and fairly priced for quantity of food. The shishito peppers were a great side dish. I'd love to come back here again. Make sure to make a reservation or use their waitlist feature as lines get long- and deservedly so.

First off the parking is hella small... the service is fantastic. The food was amazing. I had the house ramen, it was perfect for a rainy day. Once ordered it came out quick. I would highly recommend.

First time coming here, I love a good ramen. Prices are typical for Bay Area ramen shops. A nice selection of different options, though I didn't see anything really exotic like black garlic that you see at speciality ramen places. We ordered the umami Brussel sprouts and shishito peppers as appetizers. I really enjoyed both - they were well flavored and I kept wanting to eat more. Some of the shishitos were a little odd colored though - we wondered what was up with that! They could have been grilled/roasted a little longer in some cases to get that edge-of-burnt touch, but we still very much enjoyed them. As far as the ramen itself, it was fine. As an overall meal, it was pleasing enough. Compared to all the ramen places I've been to, it was mid-tier - not disappointing, but lacked the depth of flavor and umami that makes you want to drink all the broth when you know you definitely shouldn't health-wise. The spiciness was pretty mild, I got the low sodium version, so it wasn't salty. I sampled my daughter's regular sodium (same dish) version, and it may have been a touch saltier, but the lack of flavor depth/layers wasn't just salt thing. It's like the best ramen chefs know how to create an amazing broth to die for, and most places just kind of have a typical flavor that seems to lack the magic of the best broths. So overall, a good experience, but not my go-to ramen place based on my first dining experience here.

I came here with my family at the recommendation by a friend who said this was the most authentic ramen they'd had in the bay area. Well... it was okay, but not fantastic, in my opinion. I got the Hinodeya to get a sense of the original flavor, and we also split the edamame sticks and karaage appetizers. The appetizers were quite good and I surprisingly enjoyed the edamame sticks with the matcha salt powder. Service was prompt and it was easy to get the servers' attention, even if they weren't constantly checking on us. The seating area is fairly spacious with an indoor and outdoor space, though the parking lot can be really tight at peak times. For dessert, I split the parfait with my cousin. Their soft serve is wonderful and the parfait itself had a good balance of topping to ice cream ratio. So, ironically, I came for the ramen but stayed for everything else!

We came here for a late dinner around 9pm on Thursday. There're a few empty spots in their parking lot. The restaurant wasn't busy and we got seated right away. We're given the choice to order via the QR code at the table or via their staff, and we chose the former. I liked that they provided a lot of options to customize our ramens. We had to pay online before placing the order, though. Staff seemed friendly. They brought out glasses with and without ice based on our selections, and gave us a jug of water so that we could fill the glasses ourselves. The food came out quickly. The 3 of us shared two appetizers: Shishito Peppers and Umami Brussels Sprouts. Both were surprisingly delicious. The Brussel sprouts came with some spicy Tabera (fried garlic and onions), a lemon wedge and lots of bonito flakes. The shishito peppers had a perfectly seasoned soy glaze. I had the Hamaguri Ramen. The broth was very tasty, and came with loads of clams. While there's no sand in the clams, they're a little too chewy. It's still a very solid clam ramen; better than most I had tried in the Bay Area. It's even better with the Tabera. I tried the broth of our daughter's Butter Corn Spicy Miso Ramen at spicy level 1. It was very flavorful, and not too salty. My husband enjoyed his ramen with less sodium as well. It's great that his place opens till 11pm. Will come back again next time we want a late dinner.

This was a really solid ramen spot! I got the Yuzu Zen Ramen and added pork chashu to it. I really liked how the broth was light and not too salty. The yuzu flavor was yummy! The hot crunchy garlic topping also makes the ramen more flavorful, so I'd recommend it :) The inari that came with the ramen was a tad bit too sweet for me, but the chashu was good! I got the spinach noodles with it, but I wonder if there's actually spinach in it because it didn't really taste any different from the normal noodles! The noodles could be a tad bit firmer too. We also got the aburi chashu as an appetizer, and it was solid! It was basically just the pork chashu with sesame seeds and sriracha. A little pricey, but overall solid. Service is quick because you just order online and pay first, and everything comes out within 5-10 mins. I like how they open pretty late too, and have a decent amount of seating for a ramen place!

Oh! I am delightfully full! The rich umami broth really sets this place apart from others. What I really like about this place is that one may customize the menu depending on dietary concerns (vegan, lactose-free, shellfish allergens etc.), but however one customizes, the quality is fort-rate. Our party consisted of family and friends who had differing dietary concerns, but we were each able to eat delicious ramen without any worries. We started out with some appetizers - the Karaage Chicken and the Umami cucumber. The chicken had a nice crunch, yet the meat was juicy and tender! Nice! I appreciate the matcha salt that came with the chicken, as it added a little extra flavor to the chicken. And the umami cucumbers were joyfully crisp, with a slightly sweet soy sauce base, the sesame seeds and the bonito flakes on top adding to the umami. I ordered the Sukiyaki Beef Ramen - something unique, and it is not listed on the colorful poster on the door, nor was it listed on the menu card on the table. It caught my eye, though, when I ordered using the QR code. I felt like this was something on a secret menu or something . . . I was in heaven! The sukiyaki beef was tender and flavorful with that sukiyaki sweetness, and it perfectly balanced the saltiness of the broth. Oh, darn! I forgot to take a photo of the bowl of ramen!! Oops! Well, as I mentioned at the start of this review, I was delightfully full at the end, especially since I just could not leave perfectly delicious broth in the bowl. Good enough to drink as a soup! I must say, however, that when this place first opened, I was not impressed. And when I ate here two years ago, I was equally unimpressed. Today, however, I am blown away! Whatever they changed really is for the better. They have found their footing and Hinodeya Ramen Bar has matured into a wonderful place for ramen.

As you can see it's nicely decorated and though small it does have outdoor seating. As always with them they're polite and professional. I had the Butter Corn Spicy Miso Ramen. Wheat noodles with extra rich, mildly spicy Hokkaido-style miso broth, complemented by creamy butter. Topped with chashu pork, bamboo shoots, marinated ramen egg, butter, corn, seaweed, green onion, sesame seeds, and chili threads. There is a QR code on the table and you order through that. One last thing. In the photos is the spice scale. For the most part I can handle spicy, to a point. This particular time I chose level 2 and have to say it bordered on too spicy. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, just saying be careful.

SPICY MISO RAMEN
Su T.

Honestly a solid spot. Came here on a whim for dinner and ended up really enjoying the food and atmosphere. Everything was clean and inviting, service was nice, and the payment process is so convenient. Spicy Miso was tasty and the perfect portion size. Definitely order their special dessert parfait and share, because we all devoured it. It was pretty and everything in it complemented the matcha flavor.

HINODEYA RAMEN (House)
Alisa B.

I got the HINODEYA RAMEN (their house special), which was not bad! The portion was good for the price and the broth was flavorful. In terms of texture, the noodles were a little soft for my liking. But overall a good bowl of ramen! The soft boiled egg was scrumptious and the addition of spinach was interesting, but delicious. For an appetizer, I also got the Umami Brussel Sprouts. These were really good!! A little crispy and the fried garlic was the perfect addition of flavor. I highly recommend! My table sat outside and the patio was well shaded. The staff were really busy on a weekend, so they didn't come outside too often. However, the service was fine and the food came out quickly too.

CHICKEN Kara-age
Alex L.

Totally hit the spot! We had the fried oysters, chicken karaage, aburi cheese miso ramen, and the spicy miso. Definitely recommend getting a side of the spicy garlic! The aburi cheese ramen was both familiar and unique at the same time reminding me of putting cheese on shin ramen! But this was elevated to the next level, all the toppings were delicious working in unison with the ramen and broth. I did think the broth could have used a little bit more flavor but thats where the spicy garlic added the perfect amount of flavor I needed. We also loved the fried oysters, they were crispy, piping hot, and juicy! Service was simple you order with a QR code on the table, and food comes out quite quickly. It's a small restaurant so be prepared to have difficulty finding parking. But the restaurant itself has a nice cute charm. Would love to come back soon!

WOW. Seriously WOW. I saw the amazing reviews and was driving back from San Luis Obispo and decided to try Hinodeya. My wife and I weren't even that hungry but really wanted to try since we aren't really in that area. Looking through the menu I normally order Pork Tonkatsu Ramen at restaurants and when I saw a price almost at $30 I was like no way! I decided to order the creamy vegan ramen with added Cha Siu instead. 1. Vegan Ramen and Cha Siu: *MIND BLOWN* Holy crap this was honestly the top 5 ramens I've ever had. It was seriously so creamy and rich. Perfectly seasoned and the added pork was perfectly braised and soft. The fried spinach was perfectly crunchy and delicious. I would never have guessed how good vegan ramen could be. Much more reasonably priced as well compared to the pork tonkatsu. 2. Clam Soup: I only tasted a bit of the broth and it was also really good! My wife got it mild and I felt like it was pretty spicy but she wished she got it more spicy lol. The broth was so rich and had a nice fresh clam taste without it being too seafoody. The clams were also fresh and delicious. She was craving this and she said it was exactly what she wanted. Overall, I wish I lived closer because I'd eat here every day. Although a bit on the pricier side, its worth the price. High quality and good portions. I wish I had room to try their dessert. This place is a must try!

Best ramen in San Jose area. Get the clam ramen with fried oysters as appetizers. Or the gyoza and chicken karage as tapas.

Hinodeya Ramen Bar Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Hinodeya Ramen Bar

Do they still have outdoor dining? (Jan. 2024)

Yes a small covered patio area

Does Hinodeya take reservations?

Yes! You need to join Yelp Waitlist when you arrive.

Hello - can you tell me how is the parking here during lunch time?

Terrible! Limited parking. Next door doesn't like Hinodeya customers parking in their lot.

Is it dog friendly?

Yep! We had a fully grown labradoodle on the patio. There were a couple other dogs as well. The waitress brought us a water bowl too.

Do you have any vegan ramen options?

They had 2 vegan ramen options

Do they still have outdoor dining?

Yup!

We have a family member who is allergic to fish and shellfish. Are there ramens that do not contain those ingredients? Also, does every ramen come with fish cake garnish? Can you request modifications on the menu that you scan with the QR code?

They have 2 vegan ramens and neither had fishcake. They will also take your order at the table if you have questions, but I would call and try to talk to someone ahead of time as we had a language barrier at the table.

This was the first time we'd been to the Cupertino Village location, previously visiting only the Santa Clara near Mission College location. Parking at Cupertino Village is fairly tough as always, but when we got there, Hironori was pretty empty, though it filled up as we were about done. They include the service charge/tip here, which they've long done and which seemed a little strange back then, but is welcome now. The salad from the combo was solid and big enough to share some with my wife. The "appetizer" small rice bowl (I got the chashu pork) was as always satisfying and pretty filling. Love the flavor of the pork and while not lean, also not overly fatty. Really enjoyed it as always. The tonkatsu ramen with garlic and spicy add-ins on the side was very good. I perhaps have become a little pickier on my ramen broth, or my tastes have evolved. So this wasn't absolutely top top tier broth for me this time, but still quite satisfying. The noodle, chashu, and other ingredients were all reasonably portioned. So another successful and satisfying meal at Hironori. We're always happy to come here and enjoy their food and efficient service. The place was also clean and decorated with care and more than just a generic setup. A pleasant place to eat in

HiroNori is a great option when I'm craving ramen but don't want something overly heavy…read more We tried both the Tonkotsu and Shoyu ramen. I preferred the Tonkotsu, while my wife favored the Shoyu. Both were flavorful without being overly salty or greasy. The overall style felt more refined and balanced than some of the heavier ramen I've had. You can choose between thin and thick noodles, which had a nice texture, and the portions were just right. The highlight for me was the chashu. The fatty pork had a wonderful smoky, chargrilled flavor that added richness and complemented the lighter overall style of the ramen really well. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Japanese pop music played at a comfortable volume, creating a nice atmosphere without making conversation difficult. We didn't have to wait for a table. Prices were reasonable. Parking can be tricky around mealtimes since the restaurant is in a busy shopping plaza. Our server also proactively mentioned that the bill already included a service charge, so no additional tip was necessary. I appreciated the transparency. Overall, I'd happily return, especially when I want flavorful ramen without something too rich or heavy.

This one hurts a bit, but I can't justifiably give this place any more than a 3-star review…read moreprimarily because of the service and a little bit due to the simplicity and the seemingly inconsistent flavor profiles. The service was okay at the beginning but almost completely disappeared towards the end, and they weren't even that busy. I got my water refilled just once, but after a long time after my up was empty. After our meal, and even during, never got checked in on, which is fine except when I'm trying to pay and I can't even flag anyone down when the place only have 5 tables with 2 servers. I waited probably 10 minutes just to try to get them to let me pay them! Food wise, we ordered the Akamaru Modern, the Shiromaru Classic, and the Oinari-San. The Akamaru was supposed to stand out with garlic oil. But you know what? The Shiromaru (which isn't know for garlic oil or flavor) had more garlic flavor than the Akamaru. Why? The Oinari-San was just a basic California roll with tofu skin and no wasabi?! It was somewhat disappointing. Overall, the food was fine, but they don't match the description very well. So, even though they were fine and tasty, they seem to have been made without much regard for process. The restaurant itself had nice decor. Seating was fine. But overall, so many good ramen options, I'd go try elsewhere.

I did find it a little small though, but the ratio of fish to rice was good at least. As for the ramen, the birria ramen was very unique and tasted very good, though not really like ramen. But that's the intent. The birria was great and the toppings went well with it. It was a lot of birria, so I would say it was worth the price of $20 But the tan tan men lacked in flavor. There was no spice and broth tasted like mild sesame, and not very strong. The ground meat and the toppings were ok, but nothing to note about. It was cheaper than the birria ramen, but I wouldn't say it was worth the price so I can't recommend it, as I have had better at Kura sushi, which isn't a high bar to clear. Everything was $78 post tax and tip, so I did feel this restaurant was a bit overpriced for what I paid for, as I can get better tasting tan tan men and good sushi for slightly cheaper. But then again, I don't know many places that have birria ramen or salmon oshi. I am definitely torn between 3 or 4 stars so I put 4 stars so people will read this review. The servers were nice though and interior was cute and cozy. I liked the street aesthetic of it.
