Our server, Harpreet, was fantastic. She was very attentive and proactive, warning us that the chicken biryani has a kick. My family and I went to this restaurant last night. After looking at Google reviews, it got great ratings. However, the experience was kind of cringe. The white staff was pretty good and decent. I felt like they were very polite and nice to us. And I have no complaints about that exactly. For the food, I would have to say it was about average, but still tasty. But then there were some things that just didn't seem right. While we were eating, there was an young Asian man sitting in a corner observing things. And then when the table behind us got up, he was very forceful with the other weight staff to clean it up. It just didn't sit right with me. And him standing around and observing a small dining room room like it was some kind of cafeteria that he had to be like a ruler. I was not liking it. Then when it came to pay the bill, we were asked abnormal questions. Like do you want to pay cash because you won't have to pay taxes on your meal. Or a pushing us to register our phone number or email so that we can earn points. And then after we paid, they gave us some kind of Google ratings tab. And I said I would do it but reality I don't want to give a review on Google. I think they knew something was up with us. Not sure. And I did not like the digital menu. It was very distant uninviting, and it didn't really connect for me to buy more. We ordered the butter chicken and some other curry. They were both tasty meals. We do appreciate it. But I feel this restaurant needs a an evaluation on how it connects with its customers and how it can recommend food as well as present an experience that is pleasant and people can sit down and enjoy. Like I said, it was really weird when I started noticing some young Asian man who just seemed like he was trying to be like a manager. Didn't fit and it irritated me and I will never go back. I've been to other Indian restaurants and I've had great experiences. I hope they can make adjustments. But it just seemed like business was kind of shady and ruined my experience. read more

The reason for 2 stars is the food is actually pretty good but the service is terrible. I placed an online order at 4:01 pm, mind you I've been placing online orders with this place for almost a year now and never had an issue. Today, I go to pick my order up after 30 minites like the text told me and was told there was no order. I checked the Novatab (site they use) and the order is gone but my card had been charged. I tell the woman at the counter and she says, "maybe you placed it with Mountain House." I kept showing her my account where it says Himalayan Kitchen Tracy. She laughed then tells me, "oh it says minus here." I said, "yes, meaning you guys took the money from my account. The minus means it is taken from my account." Thankfully I was also sent a text message because the Novatab doesn't send you an email. I kept telling her I was charged and the order says it was placed but of course she kept calling me a liar saying that the order was from November. So I leave and call to speak to a manager because she said she had to wait for the manager to come at 5 pm. The "manager" then says they don't see the order but they see one from November and I keep telling him I showed the girl where the order was placed today and charged today. He then says don't worry he will get me my money back and I asked how if you guys keep saying you don't see the order. He then says he is going to talk to his electronics team. I told him when it fully goes through I'll dispute the charge and just not come back to them again. Very disappointing when I've been coming here for a while now. Amazing goat curry. 8/5. The flavors of the onion, curry leaves, garlic, were so well blended and caramelized veggies made a delicious curry melody. Butter Chicken 7/5. Great creamy chicken, a little sweet- great blend. Basmati rice- $4. Not just plain rice- has curry leaves and spices inside made it special. Mango lassi- creamy, thick sweet mango lassi. $4 Naan Butter- $1.49, great price and great bread, soft chewy. Not fluffy, but very delicious. The service is a little bit difficult due to the low number of servers and English barrier, with online menu, but waitress/host/bus girl was very kind and patient. Cold weather called for some hot desi bites, and Himalayan Kitchen happened to be running a happy hour where each portion was just $4.99, perfect timing. I called ahead, placed my order over the phone, and by the time I got there, it was ready within five minutes. Not bad at all in terms of wait time. I ordered Punugulu, Vada and Mysore bonda, and all three were exactly how they should be-crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, and cooked through perfectly. Honestly, the bites themselves were spot on. But... my only gripe today was the chutney. Chutney is as important as the main, if not more-IYKYK. This one was neither coconut nor peanut; the color and texture were just off. I'm guessing it might've been their take on ginger chutney? No clue. It definitely took away from the overall experience. We stopped by this place on our way back home from travel. Heard great things from my Tracy friends. Great ambiance. Grateful that they were willing to accommodate us 20 minutes before closing. Our table of 6 ordered Tandoori chicken sizzler, Goat biryani, Kadai Paneer, naan and Chai. Chicken sizzler (5/5) perfectly done, sizzling hot and flavorful. Goat biryani (4/5) was decent, the rice could have been flavorful, Kadai Paneer (2/5) was too sweet seemed like from too much ketchup. Not sure how ling this place has been open, but all the decor seems new and fresh. I took a large party of colleagues to lunch here unannounced and they had no trouble accommodating. We ordered a lot of different foods we all picked from and frankly, I don't know the names of anything I had, but I can say all of it was spectacularly delicious. Our one Indian colleague agreed as well. The server was so very polite. She frequently asked, "May I?" when intending to place another plate of food on the table. Unnecessary, but so very thoughtful. The owner came out after a bit to ask if there was anything we needed. He was interested in conversing with all of us asking where we were all from. He seemed sincerely interested in ensuring our satisfaction. I have nothing negative to say about this place. If they are a new restaurant, I ask that they maintain this quality going forward. My wife and I visited Himalayan Kitchen in Tracy, California, and we were blown away. The restaurant was spotless, and we were lucky enough to be served by HARPREET, who delivered what was easily the best service I've ever had at an Indian restaurant--maybe any restaurant, period. The food came out fresh, fast, and absolutely delicious. We started with the Malai Tikka (I believe that's what it was called)--marinated chicken with a creamy sauce and a delicious coleslaw on the side. The green chutney it came with paired perfectly with everything. Our second appetizer was the Garlic Chicken HK, and it was on a completely different level. Crispy chunks of moist, perfectly battered chicken packed with flavor, with little pieces of crispy garlic mixed in--honestly incredible in every way. For dinner, we ordered the Shahi Ghost Biryani. It was super flavorful, the goat was extremely tender, and the rice was cooked to perfection. The raita it came with might be one of the best I've ever had. Overall, this is hands-down one of the best Indian restaurants in Tracy. It's clean, welcoming, reasonably priced, and serves incredibly fresh food. And the star of the entire experience was HARPREET. She is truly one of the best servers I've ever had. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would--unfortunately, I'm only allowed five! read more

Stopped in to try their butter chicken special. The first bite, well I could test every flavor as it popped with just an overload of goodness. But my lord I was not expecting it to be as spicy as it was. I can handle heat, and I love a good butter chicken but this thing KICKED. It was amazing but it was like a sucker punch, a good one? I am sure they used frozen peas and carrots that we didn't expect to see, at least not in the amount that we saw. We hoped for a better experience with the main course, malai kofta. We dinned here for the first time on Saturday. We ordered Chicken Sizzler and Shahi Gosht Biryani... both entree's were fresh and tasty. However, Ongole chicken biryani was not as good. Meat was deep fried and dry. Other than that gulab jamuns were amazing!!! I would advise to even out the proportion of the rice and gravy for the biryani. Rice was very less!!! Food was okay. I had the biriyani chicken that was supposedly gravy like, but they made it dry and barely any gravy as they said. The food took one hour and five minutes to arrive. I was hungry that night, so I stayed and waited patiently for my food. It is too bad they took so long. My food was not warm, and it was dry as I said. It lacked flavor for a place that is supposedly authentic. I came in for the vibe, and my food did not look the way people made it out to be. I also ordered the butter chicken, that too was dry and lacked flavor. They didn't put a flower on top like the photos. That was disappointing as I was excited to come in for the experience. I wouldn't go in again as the flavor was not great compared to other authentic places. Very disappointed. I can only comment on the non-service. Family of four entered the empty restaurant. No one in sight. Rang the the little service bell to announce our arrival. Nothing. Called out, "Hello...". Nothing. Seated ourselves and waited. Nothing. Sent grandson up to ring bell again. At that time a man came out. Said nothing to my grandson, like he wasn't even there. About that same time, a woman came from the back pushing a cart. We thought for sure she would greet us, but we were wrong. Not only did she not greet us, she wouldn't even acknowledge that we were there. No smile, no hello, no "we'll be right with you". NOTHING! We all got up to leave, held the door open for her as she struggled to get her cart outside, and left, walking right past her. It wasn't just rude, it was very odd.
