We ordered the daal soup (lentils), the chicken biryani, chicken momo, and a side of raita. We were craving something warm after an icy Sky Pond hike today, and this food hit the spot! I ordered a chicken momo soup and requested it be not spicy. When it arrived, it was so spicy I was literally breaking out in a sweat. Our sweet waiter came to check in on us and asked how everything was. When I mentioned it was good just spicy, she was kind enough to offer to take it back and make it less spicy/ more brothy. It came back just right. These were not the best momos I've ever eaten, but they tasted yummy and satisfied my craving. My boyfriend felt the same out his meal. Next time I'm back, I would love to try the lentil soup! The restaurant inside is fine, but the one sketchy part is the bathrooms! Recommend you use the public bathrooms in Estes rather than the ones here. We were passing through town during a cross-country road trip decided to stop here for a late dinner. We love Indian and Himalayan food and were super excited for this cute and cozy little spot. Unfortunately, there was a lot wrong with our experience. We were seated rather quickly, but once seated it took forever to get a server's attention for just water... much less ordering. We sat at our table for fifteen minutes before being acknowledged and still had to remind several passing servers to bring us water, which came out ten minutes after that. We ordered our food as soon as the water hit the table. As we waited for our meal, I took my four-year-old to the restroom, which was exceptionally dirty. Overflowing trash, wet floor, broken paper towel dispenser. The food was just alright, if not bland. I ordered the lamb kebob with no spice, but that shouldn't mean no salt either. The vegetables were undercooked and the lamb was chewy and rubbery. The chickpea "salad" is just plain chickpeas. I opted for garlic naan, which had no flavor at all. We also ordered the chicken korma, which was okay. Much better in terms of seasoning. Sometimes I blame myself for ordering the "wrong thing" on the menu... but if the name of your restaurant includes the name of a specific dish, that dish better be the best thing on the menu. read more

Fueled by curry--it's their mantra, it's on their shirts, and after one bite, it was basically tattooed on my soul. This little spot is tucked just a couple steps off the main drag in Estes Park. Blink and you'll miss it--which would be a tragedy, because this place is legit. One of the local shopkeepers pointed us in their direction--thanks, Steve. (His name probably wasn't Steve, but it feels right.) The service was warm and welcoming, like they actually wanted us there--unlike the first place we tried, where we waited for menus and water until it became clear the waitress had no intention of ever returning. I had the chicken kabob--tender, juicy breast meat served in a sauce so good I briefly considered licking the plate. (If we weren't in public, I probably would have.) L had the tandoori chicken and went silent for five minutes. He does that when he's emotionally bonding with a meal. I've learned not to interrupt. Portions were generous, prices were reasonable. Props for the dog-friendly patio--Milo was living his best life, soaking up attention like a tiny furry celebrity. Do yourself a favor: take two steps off the main drag and get fueled by curry. (Local Review) In some places I would give this four stars but seeing as Estes suffers from bad restaurant options this gets a solid 5 stars. Unlike another restaurant in town that is highly popular this doesn't have the same level of atmosphere it does however have much better flavor profiles. (Basically it's not bland and two dimensional like the super popular place.) When it comes to spice levels the extra spicy is more like medium or spicy depending on what you're used to. That said they will work with you and because the flavor profiles are great; it will be excellent even if you don't dial in the spice level on your first try. read more

Ordered chicken jhhol momos (went for the spiciest version and loved it. Chicken momos were okay but the jhhol specifically was super flavorful), veg steamed momo (just decent), chicken biryani (average in flavor, felt more like pulao), dal fry (liked the taste, simple but tasty), palak paneer (mild in flavor, palatable but not stellar). They have an interesting cocktail menu, tried their mimosa (very sweet, low alc. content). We also ordered their noodles from daily specialty menu but that was quite disappointing in flavor. This has been a family go-to since we started coming up to Estes regularly ten years ago. My mama and I had a girls' "weekend" on a Monday and Tuesday and headed directly to this spot for lunch. We were sat immediately in the lower section with plentiful windows and given water immediately. After a few minutes of perusing the menu, we ordered our sharing plates - Chicken Tikka Masala medium-hot for me, and Saag Chicken medium-hot for my mom. The mango lassis came out first and we had one small sip of the deliciously creamy and fruity beverage and saved the rest to calm the heat. The massive platters came out next with heaping mounds of rice, and small supplemental dishes of chana and kheer. We added cheese naan to round out the meal. After the first bite, our noses were already dripping from the perfect spice. I burned my mouth multiple times because I couldn't wait for the next bite. Everything was wonderfully spicy without overtaking the flavor of all the spice blends. We chugged the rest of our mango lassis, ordered two large to-go boxes and ended up finishing the rest for breakfast the next morning after the spices had marinated and amped up even more. It had been years since I'd been back to Himalayan Curry & Kebab, but I plan to make the trek and fight the crowds to enjoy this again before tourist season returns in full force! read more

Seriously the best tikka masala I've ever had. If you're not used to TRUE Indian spice, especially on kebobs, go mild. My dad learned that one the hard way. I could have gone higher than medium I think on the tikka, but still the flavor was perfect. My daughter loved her butter chicken, and her boyfriend was happy as well with his meal. I only snagged a pic of mine, but I'd DEFINITELY come back next time we visit. Our server was incredibly attentive, answered questions, and checked in on us. We had a fantastic time here! We decided to sit in the outside patio for the beautiful evening. We ordered the Tandoori Chicken House Special, Daal Soup, and Mango Lassi. The Daal Soup was perfect and much needed after a long day of hiking. The tandoori chicken dish was served with naan, chickpeas, and kheer. The chicken was packed with the perfect combination of flavor and spice. The mango lassi was solid, but more of a mango flavor would take it to the next level. We were greeted warmly and set up in a cozy corner. Our server was Surendra, and he was friendly, quick, and checked on us plenty. Our orders were taken quickly, and I implore you not to sleep on the drinks. The hot chai and apple cider RESTORED ME!!! They were both so delicious and hot, and I was honestly not expecting more than heated up apple juice. They definitely do something special with both. We ordered two paneer dishes: tikka masala and Nepali curry with garlic naan and raita. First of all, we ate every bite which we normally don't do. But both curries were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and I was really glad I tried the Nepali curry because it was one of the places recommended dishes. Talk about food that hits the spot! This meal was hearty, flavorful, and just all around delicious. After hiking around RMNP all day, this is exactly what we needed. Located just off the main drag, a cozy but comfortable and casual spot. Small amount of parking in the lot but we were able to snag a space on the uphill road. Our server Randy was excellent and took great care of the table. Despite the restaurant being busy, we were quickly seated and given a large pitcher of water while we scanned the menu. Everything had me salivating. We started with veggie samosas which were nice and crispy on the outside and packed with aromatic veggie filling inside. One per person works well, they were pretty big! For me it was paneer tikka masala and the butter chicken for my friend. We added some naan as well and let me just say we inhaled that food! The spices really hit and the portions were great as well. Bring your appetite! Plan to eat here at least once during your stay in Estes Park! I'd sad I visited during my last night in town otherwise I'd have gone twice. In fact, I had forgotten just how good Tikka Masala is; it's delicious! No meal at HC&K is complete without a side of Garlic Naan (a $5 piece of bread, quite a lot for what it is, but we keep ordering it). Medium heat is what I usually order; it's hot enough to notice but not enough to overwhelm the other delicious flavors. We've had trouble finding restaurants we really like in Estes, but this is an exception - I'm already looking forward to going back. read more

Located in downtown Estes Park in the off-street corner, it's a little unassuming spot with outside and indoor seating. For parking, good luck with the paid parking or if you have a hotel or Air BnB nearby. They take you on their note pad waiting list and then call you when ready. The ambiance was a very busy and slightly cramped inside; there was more worry about turning tables because of the people waiting in line. We ordered the lamb kebab and chicken vindaloo after a long day at RMNP. Service was pretty minimal. We sat next to the door and it kept staying open to the 60* weather outside and I had to close it each time; the staff were either very busy and inefficient or didn't care; it doesn't matter to me but that's subpar service. The food: the lamb kebab was extremely tough; it's almost like if goat was frozen then stewed; it was pretty chewy. I did like the sauce though. My friend and I came for a recent weekend dinner and were seated immediately outside on a beautiful evening. Other than our appetizers taking longer than usual, we received great service. My friend and I shared four appetizers: the chaat samosa, pappadam, naan, and the Jhol (soup) with veggie momos. The chaat samosas were fantastic-the toppings were rich and delicious and the samosas were well-cooked and flavored. The pappadam and the chutneys were disappointing as they lacked flavor. However, the pappadam did make a good soup cracker for the Jhol. The naan was also disappointing, tasting more like pita and needing more garlic flavor. The Jhol and momos were very good-spicy and flavorful, with hearty steamed dumplings. I ordered the elk kebob for my main dish and loved it. I've never seen a restaurant offer it before and I appreciated the novelty. Himalayan Curry and Kebab cooked my elk perfectly medium-rare and gave me my desired spice level (very high) without the spice overwhelming the elk. The elk tasted like a leaner, more flavorful beef and I also got a very good portion. With all the dishes my friend and I ordered, we had amazing leftovers the next day. There are plenty of restaurants in Estes Park but I'm so glad we ended up at this one. It's small-ish but it seemed pretty busy the whole time we were in town - even in off-meal times. That said, we didn't have to wait for a seat either. The food was PHENOMENAL! We all had the samosas, I had the tofu tikka masala (vegan with coconut milk), and my friends had the chicken tikka masala and lamb kabob. Authentic and made with love. Our waiter was very kind and pleased we were there. Food came out quick and hot and was some of the best food we'd had in a long time. We all couldn't stop "mmm"-ing and swooning for the whole meal!
