As with many cases this season they were very short staffed and trying to offer good service to those that had made reservations. Our server had several tables including one of 16 people. I can't believe how good the service ended up being with Karen our waitress. As a seasoned vet in this Industry she was on top of everything. Additionally the food was Breyer than I had hoped for. We all started with the salad bar which was clean and organized. They did end up running out of ranch dressing which was a disappointment but that was the only thing that fell short the entire evening. After the salads the four of us has the French onion soup which was better than most I've had. This was followed by our main course. Two of us has the 10 oz. Fillets, on had the 16oz ribeye and lastly one liver and onions. All the steaks were fabulous and the liver was also good from what I hear. There was no rushing, Karen our server timed out servings perfectly and the evening turned out spectacular. A big kudos to the Manager for getting us in. This will be a part of our rotation moving forward. Don't forget to make reservations!

I recently moved back to Rhinelander and had to check it out again. The place looks the same which I love. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We waited for over an hour for our food and there were only about 10 customers. I had the salmon with risotto. The end of it was fishy tasting and the risotto was mushy. The other two at my table ordered their alfredo. They liked theirs, but when I looked at it, I wouldn't have liked the spiral noodle they used. I felt they were overpriced too.

I've been frequenting Timbers every Friday for their fish fry for the last 8+ years or so. To me,…read morethey have the best fish fry in the north woods by far, and it proves that you don't have to go to a fancy supper club to get good eats. The ambiance is a typical north woods bar, you can either eat at the bar or sit at one of the tables in their 'dining room' which houses the slot machines, dart board, and a few other games for kids. They have a wide selection of brews on tap, and have a full bar. The thing that I really love about this place is that everyone who works here is extremely nice. You can tell they love what they do, they're proud of where they live, and they have great senses of humor. Just overall great conversationalists. Now to the food, my favorite part: For appetizers, you HAVE to try their jalapeño poppers. They're the best poppers I've ever had. I believe they are coated in potato breading and they have an awesome zing to them. Never had a popper like it and I'll always compare others to the ones at Timbers. For lunch/dinner, their hamburgers are incredible as well. Super juicy smash burgers on a fluffy bun with the best French fries in the world. A perfect pick me up during snowmobile season or on a nice summer day. On Friday, this is THE spot for fish fry. My family and I have tried so many fish fry places over the year trying to find our favorite, and each time we stray we always leave disappointed wishing we would've just got Timbers instead. To me, what makes their fish fry so great is their portions are extremely generous, you get 4 pieces of fish, a handful of fries, two slices of buttered rye bread, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge. The way their fish is prepared and battered is my favorite. It doesn't have that super thick, almost pancake batter like breading that tastes like a corn dog. Instead it's very lightly breaded so that it's fish forward with a nice crunch. This is just my preference, but to me, it's the best fish fry I've ever had. I genuinely love this place so much, but I must say that it's obviously super crowded and loud during the tourist seasons. If that bothers you, you can always call in a takeout order so don't like that deter you from checking this place out!

I was with my girlfriend & her family for a weekend getaway. Being from the Milwaukee area, we…read morewanted a Fish Fry on a Friday night dinner. This place was highly recommended so we went. Entering, the place is large & can easily accommodate groups of 6 to 8 people bc even for a Friday with it being busy there are more seats than you'd expect. I got the Cajun Cod with Sweet Potato fries. I didn't want beer battered so it was great to find a place that offers grilled, Cajun grilled, or Beer Battered for all fish fry's. The pieces were quality good size for a grilled cod, 3 quality sizes. Plus comes with good portion of side sweet potato fries for $1 extra. My girlfriend got the Fried Perch which was two massive pieces. Most of the table got a side salad instead of another side. Food was probably a 4 to 4.5 star. Not jaw dropping but not just basic at all. Negatives: Need a drink menu. I am not going to order a beer if you aren't going to give me what is offered. Simple as that. They brought a small pitcher of water (no more than 1.5L) for a table of 6. Water was room temperature & no ice at all. Waitress did write down one of our orders down incorrectly as cod instead of crab cake. His crab cakes didn't show up for another 20min. The poor part was that the waitress never came over at all during the 20min to give an update. Heck, didn't even come over to ask us anything or give us a refill on water. The owner of the restaurant came over but he was only asking how everything was. That was when we brought it up after 5min of the waitress being gone. The owner did give us a piece of carrot cake & was overly nice which is main reason this is a 3* & not a 2*. I usually am not harsh on reviews but the issue more was on the lack of communication between the waitress & our table. By the time he got his food, every single one of us was done or asking for a carry out box for their meal. While the owner was very nice, there obviously was a lack of communication between him & the waitress during the 20min wait bc even she was asking "can I get you something else?" not knowing the owner already had already given us some cake in a carry out container. I get Friday's are busy but don't put Crab Cakes on the menu (he got a side salad as the side so they didn't need any sides) if it takes 20min to make it or that nobody on a Friday night is ordering it at all that you can't skip an order. Also, I think the other table of 6 next to us was not happy on how long their food & drinks were taking. It was a bummer bc we were all really looking forward to a Friday Fish Fry in the UP.

The waitstaff are super friendly and their recommendation of deep fried whitefish was spot-on. The owner dropped by to say hello and he was really cool. The "pine cones ", which are deep fried mashed potatoes in a roughly cone shaped package of tastiness, are a nice accompaniment to the rest of the meal. The side salad was very good and having mostly local beers on tap was a very nice touch. Can't wait to try their prime rib night the next time I'm here on a weekend.
