We walked across this area during the hike and then swam through a cave...the necessity for shoes that can get wet is real

This was a beautiful hike through rugged Maui complete with waterfalls, swimming trails and delicious fruit trees. You must have a bathing suit and shoes that can get wet. Hiking in your swimsuit is easiest as there are many areas to cool off and swim and walking trails through water and mud.

Our first time in Maui and this was on my to do list! Booking was easy, the person who took my reservation (forget her name :() was informative and already with the aloha spirit. Our actual adventure with our tour guide Eugene was amazing! He went above and beyond our expectations of this hiking adventure. Eugene knew his way around the trails probably with his eyes closed. He was knowledgeable, kind, funny, protect Eugene at all cost! The waterfalls (hoping it wasn't brown, but that's nature!) and cliff jumping were epic!! Thank you for the adventure!

Was a great day! Had an excellent guide, Des, who was so informative about the island, plant material, and native folklore. The woman has no fear. Jumped of the highest cliffs, making it look so easy. I would highly recommend the tour. Would never have found the waterfalls, without her guidance. Thank you, Des, and Hike Maui

Our guide Dave was very knowledgeable about the island and gave us some great information which why we gave it 3 stars. Unfortunately this was definitely not worth the cost. Lunch and snacks provided were basically a 3rd grader lunch ( crappy "turkey" on wonder bread or pb and j on wonder bread & a mini size bag of Cheetos or Doritos). The actual hike was less than 2 miles and we basically walked in circles to burn time. The waterfalls were nice but nothing we haven't seen before on other islands. This is something anyone could do on their own if you stay on the trails and follow the signs.

We had an amazing experience with Hike Maui! Our tour guide, Momo, was absolutely fantastic--knowledgeable, kind, and attentive every step of the way. This was our second time doing a Hike Maui tour (we did the 5-hour one 7 years ago), and this time we opted for the 3-hour version so all of our kids could join--including our 4-year-old, who had a blast! The hike was the perfect mix of adventure and beauty. We loved tasting local fruits and flowers, cliff jumping, and swimming under waterfalls--it was truly unforgettable. We can't recommend this tour enough. Thank you, Momo and the Hike Maui team, for another wonderful experience!

Company had great communication from the beginning. They texted the time to be picked up and were clear on time and location. The bus had great A/C and was nice and clean. Enrique was our guide. He made the drive enjoyable and fun by asking questions and teaching us all about the island. We did 4 excursions last week and this was our favorite. It was just myself and my 12 year old daughter. Wonderful adventure with 3 waterfalls and lots of jumping off cliffs. Super fun! I highly recommend Enrique as a guide. He was knowledgeable, fun, and kind.

My teen daughter and I went on the Waterfall & Rainforest Hiking Adventure in March. Directions to parking location were clear. Transportation to the hiking site was clean and comfortable. The location was beautiful and our guide was very knowledgeable about the local area. She pointed out local flowers and fruits, even provided some samples of this those that were safe to eat. We hiked to different waterfalls and those who were brave enough jumped in! A sandwich, snacks, water and backpack were supplied. Bug spray and ponchos also available if needed. This was a great experience and would definitely book with Hike Maui again.

We booked a hike for my family of 4. Gail was our tour guide and she was amazing. She picked us up from our hotel and greeted us with a smile. Once everyone was picked up she was telling us all about Maui. She was very knowledgeable about everything (history, plants, animals, ext). Once we got to the hiking trail she did a great job finding cool things to stop and show us. We got to try many delicious treats she found. The trails were beautiful. The waterfall stops were stunning. My family had a great time jumping into the water and swimming. Gail was very encouraging and celebrated my son when he faced his fear of jumping off on of the larger cliffs into the water. Thank you for an truly cherished time and one we will be able to look back on with some great memories.

Sarah was an amazing guide. We had a family emergency and had to cancel last minute, and they honored our reservation withGift card - which we were able to use on our trip! The farm tour is lovely. And while you can visit the lower falls without a guide, the longer hike gives you access to falls that aren't available to the public.

Tim was awesome and so knowledgeable!! He was our Clark Kent superhero!! Brought everything we may have needed. Water. Ponchos. Snack. Sunscreen. Bug spray. Lunch! It was perfect!!

We did the full day Hana experience for our Anniversary. It was a last minute booking that we squeezed in on our stay in Maui. The last time I've been on the road to Hana was in 1980. Enrique was our guide, he was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Maui. The ride is winding and some areas only 1 vehicle could pass. I recommend taking a Dramamine prior. Enrique was a very safe driver and tried to make the ride as comfortable as possible. The views along the way are well worth the drive. Enrique had snacks, water and lunch prepared for the day trip. Once arriving at the hike, he gave us ponchos and hiking sticks to assist us. The hike is not to strenuous it was 1.8 miles one way. The end goal was Waimoku Falls which was beautiful. The ride back we had time to stop at Puaa Kaa State Wayside Park to see the waterfall and Ho' Okipa Beach Park to see the turtles covering the beach. Overall, my wife and I are satisfied with the excursion and would recommend it to others.

Ask the Community - Hike Maui

    Is this hike kid friendly?

Yes! The youngest in our tour was 7 and she was flying off the cliff jumps with ease. If your kids down like hiking/climbing I would stick to the 3 hour tour which is more of a walk than a hike!

Can you do this hike on your own with our a tour guide?

You can sign up alone, and you will join a group of others signed up for that same day.

Is this recommended for parents and an 18-months old?

I think the hike would be fine, and quite interesting, but not jumping off cliffs! You could still swim/float in the fresh-water ponds beneath the waterfalls. Be sure to include mention of the 18-month old when you book, and you will hopefully be… Read more

My group got to learn the cultural practice of cordage making with the native sedge species. Other groups participated in moving rocks for the fish pond, or hiking along the coastal trail. I definitely need another trip back here to do some more exploring. It's open to the public for no charge, and they encourage volunteers on Fridays and Saturdays I believe. Check their website for more information. This is a historically significant part of Maui and Hawaii, and therefore it's being preserved and somewhat restored. There's a beautiful shoreline with some sand and abundant rocks and driftwood, and a few picnic tables in an adjacent grassy area. Not really a place for swimming. It's free, including parking, and easy to get to but the (short) access road off the street is gravel and the parking area is unpaved. Be sure not to leave valuables in your vehicle--always good practice on Maui. The trail is mostly open, so a hat and sunscreen are strongly advised. Bugs (sand flies and gnats mostly) can be an issue on parts of the trail and bug spray or a headnet would be helpful. There are a few cultural sites along the trail, with informative signs. In addition, there are several abandoned old houses and a former dairy....a few cows are still around.
