The good: Nice selection of teas and baked goods. Possibly some of the best quiche I've had. The burrito items are easy to transport. - The bad: Breakfast burritos have kind of a moist tortilla, makes for a strange texture. Pretty loud inside with often crappy R&B or contemporary pop music over the speakers. Often the staff isn't as friendly or welcoming as they should be. Tendency for pretty long lines in the AM. An unfriendly sign indicating that only the person whose name is on a gift card can use them stares at you as you pay for your food/drink. The cashiers have never offered to give me the code for the wifi, I've always had to ask them for it. - Overall: Decent for a breakfast and maybe a quick cup of caffeinated whatever! read more

The Highliner staff was gracious and helped me choose a pound of coffee beans to go. This warm and friendly coffee shop is a quick walk from where the Ruby Princess drops you off. The cruise ship charges $150 for 10 days of Internet access (or $20/day) and their dining room coffee is tasteless and too wimpy for me. For an extra charge, I can get decent coffee at the coffee & pizza kiosk counter on the ship, and I had to do that a few times during sea days. Unfortunately, the cruise line prohibits me from bringing my personal travel Nespresso machine. Needing 20 minutes of Internet access brought me to Highliner Coffee. There I found free Internet, a pound of beans for the folks back home, and the satisfaction of supporting local business in Sitka. If it had been earlier in the day, I would have ordered a macchiato as well. If I ever find myself in Sitka again, I will head for the Highliner Coffee Shop. read more

This place was sooooo cute. I loved it. I travel a lot for work, so one of my goals is to hit up the independent coffee shop in every area I visit. I'm stoked I found Highliner! The prices were extremely reasonable. I bought drip coffee (which was delicious and well-roasted), an almond croissant (which exploded powdered sugar all over me but whatever, it was delicious), and some snacks/treats for my coworker and also to bring back home. I think, including tip, everything cost me less than $16. I probably made three transactions. I was really surprised how it was all affordable, because I expected higher prices outside of Anchorage. There's plenty of seating and space to plug in your laptops. There's wifi available with a purchase. Be careful getting into the shop, because you have to cross a parking lot on the side that shares an area with the drive-through. The staff was polite and helpful and just friendly enough to not be saccharine. I will definitely return to Highliner on future visits! read more

When you are in the most charming small town in America (Sitka, baby), you have to stop in for a Highliner Latte with 3x espresso. You'll be in for a real treat. Looking for deliciously toasted bagels in the morning or late afternoon? This is the place to go. They have pastries and breakfast burritos! Which are all good. I've been a Highliner customer since 2006 and they're since going strong. Coffee is are based on Starbucks beans I believe, espressos are nice and strong and tea oh how I love tea so much. They have Redbull smoothies if you need an extra boost of energy through out the day, they got it for ya. Highliner's a great spot for winter season, they also have a couch in front of a fireplace so you can stay nice and warm. Service is good, speed is great. Oh and they also have a drive through, no need to get out of your car if there's no parking, just stay in. read more

The counter person was present during our interaction and that was refreshing. I had a white chocolate pumpkin-cherry bar. A generously cut portion. Hopping joint at 4.45 on a Tuesday. Wifi free with purchase. However, the service never prompted my MacBookAir for the password. (It did prompt the phone but I needed to work for a half hour). This was the only reason I was in the shop as it is the only downtown venue with wifi. (McDonalds too far when in town for an hour off the ferry.) The Larkspur Cafe does not have wifi (per phone call). The Bayview Pub does not have public wifi. There is no city-sponsored public wifi. read more

We cruised Alaska and Sitka was on our list of ports. Thanks to the beauty of being self employed, we needed to get some work done while we were in Sitka and immediately turned to yelp for coffee shops with wifi. Highliner Coffee was first on the list. It's a bit of a walk from the docks. Turn your navigation of your phone, and make the jont. It's worth it. The coffee is energizing, and it includes free wifi with your purchase. I believe it was 90 minutes. We ended up purchasing an unlimited pass via web, as we were holed up for a few hours. We were able to commandeer a table in the corner, with no complaints from the staff or local coffee goers. There were plenty of outlets and lots of natural light streaming through the windows. We owe Highliner Coffee a huge thanks. There couldn't have been a better mobile office with an espresso machine! read more

My family up in AK has a huge debate as to where the best coffee in Sitka is. Most say this place... I'm undecided though. I like the quaint little atmosphere of Back Door better but Highliner nonetheless produces good coffee. The quality can be inconsistent but when it's good, it's good. They also offer a wide array of snacky type foods. Unfortunately half the times I went there they were out of whatever I wanted (usually bagels). The drive though is really convenient and overall the staff is friendly. read more
