A little difficult to find, but maybe we were coming in from the back side. Large open space inside with free wifi with purchase (they give you a code). Bathrooms available and lots of "stuff" to purchase, like t-shirts, cups, etc. When I ordered the Highliner Latte, the clerk was new and still training. Her sweatshirt said Linfield College, which is in Portland, Oregon, so I asked her if she was attending college there, and she politely smiled and said yes. I didn't order any food, as I'd had enough to eat for the next week or two on the cruise ship. The Highliner latte was excellent, though. There's always room for good coffee. Nice place to catch up on emails, relax and have an espresso based drink. read more

The coffee here was excellent and the focus of the coffee shop is environmentally-friendly and fish-awareness friendly. This place appears to be the only coffee shop in Sitka. There are a number of tables that allow you to sit and enjoy your coffee (and pastry). Some of the tables have interesting designs on the surface. This coffee shop is a little difficult to find if you rely on the address alone as it is in the back of a small strip mall. You could easily walk right by it and miss it if you were not looking out for it. As we were drinking our coffee we saw both locals and tourists. This is definitely the place we will come to for coffee next time we are in Sitka. read more

Picked up coffee and a burrito on my last day in town. Big mistake, I should've gone to the Highliner every morning for coffee. Coffee was great the burrito was excellent. My friends got pastries and a croissant that they said was amazing. Everyone in our group loved the food and the coffee don't miss out. read more

The good: Nice selection of teas and baked goods. Possibly some of the best quiche I've had. The burrito items are easy to transport. - The bad: Breakfast burritos have kind of a moist tortilla, makes for a strange texture. Pretty loud inside with often crappy R&B or contemporary pop music over the speakers. Often the staff isn't as friendly or welcoming as they should be. Tendency for pretty long lines in the AM. An unfriendly sign indicating that only the person whose name is on a gift card can use them stares at you as you pay for your food/drink. The cashiers have never offered to give me the code for the wifi, I've always had to ask them for it. - Overall: Decent for a breakfast and maybe a quick cup of caffeinated whatever! read more

When you need that early morning cup of joe in Sitka on the go, this is your place. They sport both a drive up window and a nice cafe area to sit and enjoy your warm bevy. They also have a nice assortment of breakfast like pastries and treats to further fuel your morning. Their drip coffee sports that nice light roast that I adore! read more

The Highliner staff was gracious and helped me choose a pound of coffee beans to go. This warm and friendly coffee shop is a quick walk from where the Ruby Princess drops you off. The cruise ship charges $150 for 10 days of Internet access (or $20/day) and their dining room coffee is tasteless and too wimpy for me. For an extra charge, I can get decent coffee at the coffee & pizza kiosk counter on the ship, and I had to do that a few times during sea days. Unfortunately, the cruise line prohibits me from bringing my personal travel Nespresso machine. Needing 20 minutes of Internet access brought me to Highliner Coffee. There I found free Internet, a pound of beans for the folks back home, and the satisfaction of supporting local business in Sitka. If it had been earlier in the day, I would have ordered a macchiato as well. If I ever find myself in Sitka again, I will head for the Highliner Coffee Shop. read more

Latte was good, I prefer agave sweetener but they only had stevia or Splenda. Irritated I didn't get a sleeve as my latte was hot. Got a croissant and it was kinda doughy in the middle but still pretty good otherwise. Husband got the breakfast burrito and it was amazing. It had eggs, tofu, corn, black beans, potatoes, little bit of tomato... I think chili powder and cumin- it was perfectly spicy, and some sausage & cheese in a flour tortilla. An excellent place to grab coffee and a snack. Every time I've been here I've loved my drink, both drip coffee and their lattes. There's a large sitting area if you fancy relaxing for a bit. I'm on vacation and wanted to try something new, I asked the barista guy for his favorite coffee and he did NOT disappoint! Amazing coffee and I'm not normally one for oat milk but whatever this coffee is it tastes amazing even with the oat milk! My best friend got chai which was also amazingggg!!! This place was sooooo cute. I loved it. I travel a lot for work, so one of my goals is to hit up the independent coffee shop in every area I visit. I'm stoked I found Highliner! The prices were extremely reasonable. I bought drip coffee (which was delicious and well-roasted), an almond croissant (which exploded powdered sugar all over me but whatever, it was delicious), and some snacks/treats for my coworker and also to bring back home. I think, including tip, everything cost me less than $16. I probably made three transactions. I was really surprised how it was all affordable, because I expected higher prices outside of Anchorage. There's plenty of seating and space to plug in your laptops. There's wifi available with a purchase. Be careful getting into the shop, because you have to cross a parking lot on the side that shares an area with the drive-through. The staff was polite and helpful and just friendly enough to not be saccharine. I will definitely return to Highliner on future visits! read more

Pretty good coffe and lots of selection on sweets and desserts. Their breakfast burrito looked especially tasty but didn't try it. Perhaps later this week. They give you .25 off w your own mug which is cool too. Only reason they didn't get a 5star rating was the wait wasn't that long but took FOREVER to get coffee. Not that big of a deal, but something to improve upon! read more

Looking for deliciously toasted bagels in the morning or late afternoon? This is the place to go. They have pastries and breakfast burritos! Which are all good. I've been a Highliner customer since 2006 and they're since going strong. Coffee is are based on Starbucks beans I believe, espressos are nice and strong and tea oh how I love tea so much. They have Redbull smoothies if you need an extra boost of energy through out the day, they got it for ya. Highliner's a great spot for winter season, they also have a couch in front of a fireplace so you can stay nice and warm. Service is good, speed is great. Oh and they also have a drive through, no need to get out of your car if there's no parking, just stay in. read more

An off-the-beaten-track place to hang out and get 4 kinds of Chai. I had the Tiger chai and found it perfect on a cloudy day. My pal bought a pound of the coffee, supporting the local roaster of Highliner Coffee. Lots of folks use the drive through, we noted. Very handy for the hardworking locals. The best part of waking up is Highliner Coffe in your cup. Seriously! When you are in the most charming small town in America (Sitka, baby), you have to stop in for a Highliner Latte with 3x espresso. You'll be in for a real treat. During my much needed coffee break, I also enjoyed the quiche (yum) and a delicious blueberry muffin. If coffee isn't your cup of tea, you're in luck- they have TEA! and hot chocolate for the kiddos. The only regret for me was not taking home a Highliner souvenir! My excuse to go back. :) read more

Very good coffee! Not bitter and mishandled! Nice place too. A Variety of tables and chairs combined with the local fishing industry pictures. The counter person was present during our interaction and that was refreshing. I had a white chocolate pumpkin-cherry bar. A generously cut portion. I wanted something a little less sweet, but I'm the one that chose "white chocolate pumpkin cherry!" It was delicious. read more

Hopping joint at 4.45 on a Tuesday. Wifi free with purchase. However, the service never prompted my MacBookAir for the password. (It did prompt the phone but I needed to work for a half hour). This was the only reason I was in the shop as it is the only downtown venue with wifi. (McDonalds too far when in town for an hour off the ferry.) The Larkspur Cafe does not have wifi (per phone call). The Bayview Pub does not have public wifi. There is no city-sponsored public wifi. read more

This Is my go to place when in Sitka for good coffee and breakfast snacks. The atmosphere is fun and it is a very comfortable place to enjoy your morning and catch up on emails. Easy to find pat the roundabout next to the fire station you'll see me there when I'm in Sitka. read more

However, this isn't any pile of table salt. You can see from the glistening that it's large, flaky salt, as pure as the driven snow. Your eye wanders and salt in various packages line the walls. They sell pure sea salt made locally, but also add flavorings like coffee and spruce tips to make their salt interesting. They have a salt bar so you can sample the salts. The salt-a-rista (?) will ask you the salts you want to try and then line them up, so you taste the subtle flavored salts first before the stronger tasting salts. The huge crystals melt on your tongue just like snowflakes. Yum! The back of the store is dedicated to various high end specialty foods like wine and cheeses. This place is great for unique food souvenirs.
