Definitely recommend the avocado toast (pickled onion x sea salt combo goes crazy)! We visited like 3 mornings in a row, I think. Really big portions! I also love the sense of community in the place and all the posts advertising upcoming community events!

The kind of love that envelops you when you walk into a room, instantly making you feel welcome. That is the kind of magic that simple ingredients in the hands of those who actually care can have. Ma chère amie, please do not imagine that the menu is limited only to old-world gluten heaven. No. The magic extends to those who cannot partake. However, you must peruse that menu at your own leisure. For me, as I can happily partake in such hedonistic gluten, I had a special of turkey, pesto, avocado, and the ooziest, creamiest, most decadent cheese that, alas, I do not recall the name of. But the real superstar, nay, the Josephine Baker of pastries was a pistachio bun (?!?). This was heaven paired perfectly with strong coffee. I may add, it was the only good coffee I had in Alaska. One would expect this in Paris, in a small shop run by a husband and wife with an oven that has been lit for maybe a 100 years. But to stumble into this slice of heaven, accidentally. Divine. 10 out of 10, would recommend.

People will tell you to bring an umbrella to Alaska. No, you should really just bring a really good waterproof hoody coat. It was bulky, but it protected me from the elements. It's just too windy for an umbrella. Anyway, I thought about trying the spruce tip latte. I ended up getting a Dirty Chai. It was very good. I didn't get to try my husband's Mexi-Mocha with cayenne pepper. He really liked the flavors. He's never had a spicy latte, so it was a real treat for him. The shop has some moose chocolate treats, gifts, flowers, and unique gift items. It was my first time seeing Alaskan sea otter fur earrings. An Alaska native artist makes them. The flowers that they sell here look fresh and beautiful. It's very close to the public library and Harrigan Centennial Hall. It was the perfect stop before getting on the bus back to the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal. It's also a great stopping point after visiting the Baranof Castle State Historic Site on a cold day. Check it out if you're in Sitka.

The soup itself is not too thick- and pairs well with the delicious bread it is served with. We also shared their prosciutto sandwhich - which was equally delightful and another "must try" when visiting. Lastly- its a good idea to try whatever desserts they have that day. We split their apple turnover and it did not disappoint! We wound up purchasing another to take back to the hotel. There is casual seating inside for perhaps 12 or so, while outside you can enjoy eating your food near the water. Ludvigs is truly a gem! From their delicious food to their warm and friendly service, I will definitely return the next time I am in Sitka. Thank you Ludvigs!

It's located at the gift shop next door to the Sitka Sound Science Center. It's where you can sit down and soak in the view of Sage Beach. It's where many people go to climb on the rocks and look for sea life that has washed ashore. It's amusing to watch them. You may even see Bald Eagles fly by looking for fish. We did. There was a line, but everyone was served quickly. The menu is very simple. The chowder with spicy chorizo is the star. We both decided to get the lunch special. I should have ordered a cup instead of a bowl. This chowder is very hardy. There's a lot going on in terms of flavor. It's very meaty. Hubby asked for hot sauce. She told him that he's not going to need it. He was initially taken aback by this response and refusal to give him any. He totally understood after tasting it, and he even ended up agreeing with her. We totally devoured it. The baguette sandwich was also quite delicious. My husband had some sort of sandwich with pepperoni because he doesn't like prosciutto. He said it was okay. I didn't try it because my baguette sandwich was huge. I couldn't finish it. My advice is to get a cup of chowder and split the sandwich if your significant other likes prosciutto. The price is high for what it is. It's like that everywhere in Alaska due to the cost of transportation. There's limited seating inside, but it's somewhat easy to find a spot if it's not too busy. There are benches outside as well. I would definitely return if ever in the area. It was a great pick-me-up, and very conveniently located on the waterfront trail through Sitka.
