Top of my list for Sitka was to find this food truck because they had Alaskan flavors I wanted to try. I tried the Alaskan snow crab roll, warm buttery brioche bun stuffed with half a snow crab, lightly tossed in lemon garlic pepper sauce and topped with chives. I also tried the wild berry tea and the purple chocolate chip cookie with spruce berries and lavender. We also tried the seasonal reindeer sausage with Arctic ketchup and caramelized onions on brioche. Excellent price point for the portion and quality you get. Easy to find, just turned a corner and it was there. Covered area to have your meal. Quick service, friendly staff. Good portions. Good quality. Real Alaskan flavors. read more

Red Herring - Food Trucks Near Me - Sitka, Alaska

Nice little food truck with a simple menu, crab roll. The crab roll was reasonably priced and delicious, loved the secret sauce on top and toasted brioche. I personally would have preferred warm crab on a roll but like I said it was delicious. Do not pass on the tea and cookie, most of the people I saw only bought the crab roll but trust me you are missing out on a unique treat. The service was great, one guy in the truck but he kept the line moving and he was nice. They even put out a little canopy in the back end of the truck so you don't have to stand out in the rain eating your crab roll. There were two other vendors nearby selling food but you didn't come all the way to Alaska for a burger you came for the crab. read more

The place recommended by a local so we had high hopes. The lobster roll sounded right up our alley and so excited to try it. What we got was a small amount of stringed meat on a hot dog bun. Wasn't anything that made us glad we stopped or recommend. read more

I really wanted to like this place. But unfortunately, we didn't like the food that much and the wait was super long with no where to sit. We got the yerba mate and that was good. So was the cookie, though we had to split it among the 4 of us since they ran out. I got the bahn mi. For the price and the wait, I didn't like it too much. It was cold and the bread was chewy. I'll also add that they only had 1 person working the truck, which explains the wait but still I expected more from the food. read more

The fresh sandwiches were excellent!! A bit of a wait, but well worth it ~ my mouth will remember these as the best part of our Alaska culinary adventures!! Do yourself a favor & get dessert too ... if they're not sold out. Cheerful staff make this a must stop when cruising Alaska! read more

A local suggested the reindeer sausage sandwich so I ordered one. It was amazing. The sausage was split open and cooked perfectly on a potato roll. The cooked onions and sauce was well seasoned and delicious. I'll be dreaming about this sandwich tonight! read more

Amazing a must do in Sitka. My sandwich was amazing - the cheese was just the right amount.

Great food and service! The crab roll and chowder were both excellent and appreciated the local ingredients.

For a delicious casual food experience try the Red Herring food truck. Our group of 6 sampled the venison/pulled pork sandwich, the crab roll (really a crab sandwich), potato salad (potato, yam, beet and green onion combo) and wild blueberry tea. Unfortunately the blueberry pie was sold out. Everything is high quality, great taste and ample portions. Tough to decide between crab and venison - both are excellent- but the latter was my favorite today- it was so flavorful. Potato salad is unique and tasty and the crab and its sauce are perfectly balanced. We will all go back on our next visit!! Thanks Cooper and crew. Carolyn, Ojai, CA read more

Heard about the Red Herring food truck from friends so decided to check it out when we were in Sitka. AMAZING! The pulled pork sandwich was so tasty -- the BBQ sauce as well as the delicious slaw. We also tried a crab sandwich/roll that was full of crab with a wonderful sauce. Topped off the lunch with blueberry mint ice tea. Great find in Sitka! read more
