To everyone reading this, please avoid this shop and shops like this. I am writing for someone that recently went to this shop to get a so called diagnosis on her vehicle. Concern was check engine light and smoke coming from under the hood. So to start off I'm a mechanic and when I got this call for help I couldn't believe what I was hearing...$1200 to replace a radiator on an old 2003 Lexus. And on top of that to add an insult to injury they quoted another 2.5 hours to replace the radiator hoses which is apparently $585 of labor and parts. Oh and get this, another hour of work for adding the coolant into the vehicle.....so like you don't do that when you replace the radiator????? From the beginning this whole thing smelled of scam and guess what I was right in thinking that. Then they tell her her thermostat is bad....how do they know.....who knows maybe they did testing? Nope they just told her it was bad and quoted 2.5 hours which is $750 on top of everything else quoted. The thermostat calls for 1.4 hours of labor and yes I understand it's in a different area and all but gosh I can't help but think my conscience would scream at me for trying to quote someone $1200, $585, $750, and $385 and not try to help with cost. Wow. My problem is these shops exist out here either knowingly scamming or unknowingly just bad at their jobs and are incompetent. But anyway no indication of what the check engine light was on for, no information on what they did to diagnose it or any expectations set for her to understand what's going on. So what was the technicians diagnosis...radiator was leaking at the top seal and any person can see that. I'm sure they didn't pressure test based on the track record of saying the thermostat was bad without checking. But back to the story. I received the car after she paid for the so called diagnosis fee which who knows what that's all about because doesn't say any information or a story on how they diagnosed anything, then started on working on the radiator, I literally timed myself and it took 15min to pull the radiator out....removed the top covers, removed the support beam, the radiator isn't even bolted to the condenser....15 mins guys. I don't know what kind of things yall are smoking....transferred over the upper and lower radiator hoses not for another 2.5 hours and transferred over the temp sensor which took another 20min to do. Then another 15 min to install radiator and then top off the coolant and burp the system another 5 min. Sooo all this is under the 1.4 all dats time to do. And they wanted to charge 5.5 hours. I have no idea where in their right mind they thought 5.5 hours was acceptable to quote. Now Iet me tell you guys something, in my head I told myself when she gets here I'm going to ask what did they say to you when you said I'm going to pay the so called diagnosis fee and take the car because it's too expensive. And in my mind I told myself watch she's going to tell me that they tried to lower the prices and give a discount by waiving the diagnostic fee which is laughable. How can you charge a diagnostic if you leave without using information on the check engine light and or the leaks. Well clearly the radiator is leaking but where does that diag fee go to? The person who's going to respond to this is going to say well it goes to the tech to pay for his time to look at the car. Yea yea my butt, I've been in this industry for 15 years and all my notes for every single car has pictures and exactly what I checked down to the pressure I used on the cooling system to check for leaks. Everything is documented and if a car comes in we can look at the history of what was done previously. That's because we notate exactly what's going on. If a car comes in with a check engine light I take a picture of it and upload it and attach it to the multipoint inspection so we can have a record of what the light is. Oh and that's not diagnostic labor that's just looking at what the light says. Actual diagnosis is checking the circuit, checking the module or solenoid or running test on evap components or smoking the intake for leaks and pressure testing the cooling system and having a full formed conclusion. Condition, cause, correction and confirmation is a full formed conclusion of diagnosis which if this was done I wouldn't have had an issue paying $120 for a diag. Shame on you guys and other shops like this. Shame shame shame!!! Im appalled at what you guys did and to the person working for this shop trying to respond to this, there is no response, there is nothing you can say. The sheet says it all, I have receipts and proof. You cannot come at me and say all the responsive garbage you say to other customers who have a bad experience. I've read your posting responses. All you need to feel is shame and fix yourselves, apply better fundamental values and progress from this caveman style of automotive repair. I knew I needed an oil change, tail light fix and something was up with my shocks/struts. Planned on it being an expensive visit. It was, and everything was explained to me and shown under the car. Owners and techs were very professional. They admitted to breaking my tail light cover and I do have to go back for a replacement. But they were honest and quick and I will return. read more

I usually don't leave reviews, but I'd like to leave one for this auto shop. I am from out of town and hit a bumper which ruined my condenser. For starters, I called him around 8 PM the night it happened and he just informed me to bring it in first thing in the morning. When I went in the morning I emphasized that I needed it done the same day due to having to travel back home the following day. He told me no worries as long as he was able to find the parts he could complete the work. He kept me updated the whole time, and sent images of all steps of the processes. From the installation to the completion. I would definitely go again if I need work completed. He was very nice and his communication was great! 10/10 would recommend! read more

I had an issue with my air conditioner compressor. I had an MPP service contract that would cover the repair at Highlands Auto center after three days of telling me that they were working on my car they decided not to work on it because no one would pay their diagnostics fee, so they thought, the warranty would have covered that, but they decided not to work on my car anyway three days of my time wasted. Hussein should never have left Hassan in charge. That was the main problem now they lost a 20 year Customer because of their bad business practices. read more

Ok where to start. I really wish I could write a good review but, unfortunately. Took my car in for wheel alignment on November 5th, here it is only December 18th. they told me I needed front struts and alignment. Said they would give me free alignment if replaced struts with them, so I said ok. The struts make noise afterwards, not sure they gave me brand new struts and the alignment is the same and I doubt they did it because it still pulls. Later they call wanting me to do all kinds of other repairs, fast talking me of course. Anyhow after all that, today I decided to rotate my tires myself which is something I have always done throughout the years. Upon trying to take off the tire, the nuts would not come off due to them fastly putting on the nuts after they took off the tires when I brought it in, and of course the nuts broke off, 4 of them! Hard to beleive that they cannot do a simple job correctly. In such a hurry and don't care what they are doing to just power tool the nuts on crooked. Of course they will not take responsibility for their mistake. It's no wonder, right !? And on top of it, when you pay with a credit card they charge you 4% of what the credit card company charges them and they pass it along to you the customer. Now I have to incurr more time and money to get my wheel fixed. If you want your vehicle done right I don't recommend taking it here. I have had my own business for over 24 years to date and I have always done the right thing by my customers. I am not a mechanic and don't run a mechanic shop but whatever business you are in, you should care about how you do things and future potential customers as well and not just a one time transaction. Be cautious when coming here! I took my car here after reading good reviews online. They said my engine and transmission mounts all needed to be replaced along with my axles being cracked, estimating $2,200+. I told them I would get a second opinion. I took it to the dealership where they told me the mounts were fine and the axles just needed to be lubed costing me less than $300. Mechanics will say anything to get you to spend thousands when they assume the customer doesn't know any better. Would not recommend this place. read more

What can I say I FOUND A SUPERIOR AUTO SHOP! Coming from CA ( don't shoot me lol) I had left my trusted mechanic of 20 years. Therefore I felt when my Lexus RX 350 had transmission slippage at only 130.000, I was screwed! Fearful I had to sink over $8000+ to keep my suv running, I begrudgingly headed into HIGHLAND to empty my pocketbook. Well I don't like to admit it often , but I was wrong. I met some of the most honest and kind people period! Ends up I didn't need a transmission at all! They flushed and cleaned out the fluids and my vehicle has never ran so amazing since I purchased it 4 years ago! I hopped in and it ran smoother than a satin pillowcase I rest on at night! Completely blown away at the expertise this shop has. Be smart guys! If you need honest and fair priced work done on any auto, you can net your bottom dollar...... HIGHLAND IS THE PLACE TO GO!!! After taking my 2013 Volkswagen CC to Rusty Wallis Volkswagen 4 times in the last 3 months for a stalling issue and them making me do unnecessary repairs and pretty much playing a guessing game with my car but not solving the problem I was recommended to Highland Auto Center by several co workers. They took the time to really find out what was wrong with my car and repaired it correctly! My only regret is not taking the car to them to begin with ‍ but lesson learned for sure! These people took advantage of me. I have a 2016 Mercedes that I use for Uber. They charged me $140 for an oil change then put a cheaper version of it in my car. My car began to start overheating as a result of this. I took it in and they just put more oil in it. I found out they put the incorrect oil because the people I normally go to told me about it. I'm very upset and feel very taken advantage of. Terrible place of business. read more

I hate writing this, but as a 20+ year former customer, I'm almost at loss for words. I took my car in as it was having issues with the compressor for the air conditioner. I have a service contract with MPP that pays for repairs for components like the one giving me trouble. This was on a Tuesday. I drop off the car, inform Hassan that he needs to call the 800 number I gave him for payment. MPP asks them to disassemble the compressor and send them photos in order to diagnose any issues further up the system. Hassan says "who's going to pay for it?" Well, the warranty company is going to pay for it. They would not ask them to go to that length without knowing they were going to accept the claim. We bickered for three days about this with Hassan saying that he would start the work on several occasions. They never started it. They said "come pick up the car, we aren't working on it" after 3 days. Hussein dropped the ball leaving Hassan in charge. He's just not a people person and the communication failures are many. My son is a freshman at a college in Dallas and we live in Kentucky. During the ice storm a few weeks ago, he slid into a curb that cracked his wheel and knocked his front end really far out of alignment and setting off about every red warning light on the dashboard. I got the wheel repaired at a wheel repair shop and then we took it to a Firestone center and after keeping it a day and a half, thesaid his alignment machine was not able to align an Alfa Romeo and that we had some broken front end parts that he was not able to get. Very frustrated we started looking online for a mechanic shop. It was a Sunday and not many people were open. My son found Highland and said they had good reviews . Desperate, we took it there and Hussein was reassuring that he could fix it and would get on it first thing in the morning. He texted me a video about 10am showing me not only were there NO broken parts, how he was re aligning it. He was able to reset all the red lights on the dash with his computer as well. It drives perfectly and no red lights. When we picked the car up he reassured me if my son ever had any trouble with his car they would come and get him if he was broken down. My car started making some crazy noise and being new to Texas I was unsure where to go. I usually take my car to the dealer but decided to ask my boyfriend where he thought I should go. With out hesitation he said Highlands Auto Center. He told me to call first thing in the morning to make sure I could get in and when I called they said come by anytime. When I got there they took my car right away, and ran a diagnostic test to find the issue which too about 45 minutes. When discovering the problem they gave me a quote for a parts and labor which was very reasonable. They encouraged me to call around to see if I could get the service done for less somewhere else, which I could not. They called me when the part was in and I was able to drop it off early Sunday morning and picked it up later that afternoon. I was extremely pleased with the service, the staff was polite and courteous and the price was right. I will continue to bring my car here for services needed. read more

We took my Oldsmobile '88 here when ny brakes went out. While it was not a fun or easy fix, these guys were up for the challenge. The customer sevice people were very knowledgeable and helpful in the car service. My only complaint was they told me that they would let me know what wad going on with my car later that day. Great place to get your car inspected and repaired! These guys are always kind and honest and don't try to rip you off like many other places. I've been taking my car there for a couple years now and won't take it anywhere else. Reasonable pricing and prompt service! Today I got new tires installed and yearly inspection done within an hour and without appointment. On a side note..Arturo, one of the mechanics has a heart of gold! Two months ago he saved 4 baby birds which fell out of their nest right onto the floor of the shop. He picked them up and put them back in the nest but momma bird would kick them out again. On Friday I called to see if I needed an appointment, the person who answered the phone said to come on down anytime they're open and they'll help me. Sweet :) Came in today (Sunday) at 945a for my vehicle inspection. I had my printed insurance card and waited for approximately 20 minutes, $7 and I was out the door. The gentleman who helped me was really friendly and seemed really cheery. The other men who worked there were friendly and sociable as well. I would give 0 stars if I could. Very untrustworthy company and they will take advantage of you based on the vehicle that you drive. This place is a total ripoff. They charged more than double for the cost of parts and more than double for labor. They wouldn't even provide a full cost breakdown for work and parts. Just a big lump sum due on the bill. That's how you know they're underhanded. After I finally got him to show me a full breakdown of costs, they charged $145/hr for 10 hours where everywhere else has said 5 hours to fix a clutch. The cost of the clutch was $340, but I was charged over $700 for the parts. So they're marking up the parts too! I would avoid this place at all costs. After showing the owner a quote elsewhere for $1500 less, he said too bad and didn't do anything to make it right. Said people in Lake Highlands should pay more because cost of living here is lower. The owner actually said that it's like shopping at Whole Foods versus Kroger. What a scumbag! read more

Cannot recommend. Breaks were squeaking on my car. Highland Auto provided and installed break shoes and calipers on all four. Breaks still squeak even after adjusting twice. Chevrolet says they were still squeaking because "after-market" break shoes rather than GM were used on my car and do not fit flush..thus the continued squeak! Heusein said he'd throw in free labor if I paid for new GM break shoes myself Really? WOW! I also had problems with my gear shift cable. Highland replaced the cable. Must not have been GM! Took it back twice and ended up having to take it elsewhere and this mechanic used a GM cable and PAID him!$$$$ Bottom line...Heusein is a nice enough guy. He tried multiple times but no successful outcome on either repair after five trips and over $1,300....NO NO NO!!!!!! read more

Having recently moved to Dallas, I was looking for somewhere I could trust. Brought my car in to run the codes on the check engine light. They called me and said I needed $1800 worth of work done. I worked in a auto shop during college so I knew this was complete overkill. Especially with them saying I need new brake rotors on a car with only 50k miles. The man at the front counter was very rude and aggressive. All he wanted was for me to say do the work. I got my car and left, went to another shop in town and they fixed my car, including break pads (the rotors where fine) and saved me almost $1400. The car is now running great and I now know to never go back to Highlands Auto. read more

I requested a quote for a new alternator and explained how I knew it was ONLY the alternator. I'm used to up-selling so I was very specific as far as seeing my battery light on, going to Auto Zone, and failing the alternator test. Mostly I take my vehicles here for inspections, oil changes, and miscellaneous items. The pricing is very fair. I have been able to negotiate a little here and there but only because the job was very small. If you know what the going price is for auto parts then you're one step ahead of the rest. It's no high pressure sales; as they have a lot of business going through the door. If you require extensive body work, don't look to save a lot of dough! They're open on Sundays, I came in without an appointment, three stars for that alone. I know I could have gotten the work done for cheaper, I already knew what was wrong with my car because Autozone told me with a free diagnosis. This place still needed to do a diagnosis to confirm the problem and it turns out that it was exactly what Autozone said it was with a free diagnostic test . They "waived" the $90 diagnostic fee...gee thanks. It took a few hours to get my car fixed and there really wasn't much going on in the small waiting area. Unfortunately, there aren't too many places that are walking distance either. Come here when you're in a pinch. Otherwise, I think I could have gone somewhere cheaper and in a more desirable location. read more

While all of the other area mechanics were closed on Saturday, Highlands came through on an urgent request. I recently found a vehicle to purchase in the Dallas area. I live in Austin, so going to check it out wasn't ideal. It was what I was looking for, after many weeks of scouring the internet, so I needed to move quickly. I found Highlands Auto Center via Yelp and contacted them about doing a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) at 11AM on a Saturday. They were able to pick the car up from a local dealer by 1PM and completed the inspection by 4PM. They were very thorough on their inspection and checked every button, light, panel, tire, and other vehicle surface. They called me with all of their results, highlighting mandatory issues to address as well as other maintenance items to check with the seller about. All in all, their price was very fair and their service was top notch. I would happily recommend using them for a pre purchase inspection. read more

It's terrifying to take my car to an unknown mechanic...but due to circumstances out of my control I had to rely on reviews and I ended up at Highlands Auto Center. Despite calling 4 minutes before close on a Sunday they answered the phone and were in constant communication for hours after; including the owner on his personal cell phone. They gave me a quote for everything that needed to be done to my car, and upon my request another quote for how much it would take to make my car driveable. Not only did they go above and beyond with my financial restraints, they sent me pictures and texts to update me on the progress. I was shocked by how quickly my car was ready. Our regular mechanic isn't open on Saturdays, so we brought a used car to Highlands Auto Center for a check-over before purchasing. Hussein, the owner, was friendly and helpful. The mechanic, Francisco, was very fair and honest (a reflection of the owner, as well). They got us in quickly, despite being busy, and thoroughly checked the car out. Afterward, Francisco actually showed me the car and talked through each issue he found. He also advised me not to purchase the car, which I appreciated - he could have given the car the all-clear, knowing that it could potentially earn them business in the future.
