Loa did my pedicure, while a sweet young woman (whose name I unfortunately didn't get) did my daughter's. My daughter received wonderful treatment--kind, professional, and attentive. Her nails were trimmed, cleaned, filed, and she received a lovely foot massage. Unfortunately, my experience with Loa was the opposite. She was extremely rough during the massage, and when I politely asked her to ease up on the thumb pressure, she started laughing and began an ongoing conversation with the person attending to my daughter. It was awkward and clearly made the other technician uncomfortable--she wouldn't even make eye contact. I tried to make light conversation, thinking Loa might just be having a bad day, but she gave short replies or none at all. She didn't use a file, left dry skin untouched, and when it came time to put on my flip flops before polish, she just handed me one and walked off. She used only one coat of polish and abruptly left to answer the phone--where she simply said "hello," without identifying the business. I understand people have off days and I genuinely prefer to leave five-star reviews or none at all--but this was the worst service I've ever received. The rest of the staff was kind and even apologized to us afterward. At $45 per pedicure, I expected a much higher level of care and professionalism. This is my first and only one-star review, and I'm leaving it only because the experience was so disrespectful and uncomfortable. read more

I have never left a negative review for a business, but I feel I need to say my piece. I live very near Highland spa and found an excellent nail technician there named Kevin. I have nothing but high praise for him, it is very unfortunate that he works at this particular salon under his manager, Lena. As many others before me have stated in reviews, she is extremely unprofessional and has been flat out rude to me on several occasions. I have looked past it for the sake of Kevin off and on for the last three years and will no longer give her my business or contribute to her financial success. Everyone else in the salon has been nothing but gracious and accommodating. Whoever owns this salon needs to find new management ASAP. read more

I'm not unaccustomed to waiting when it comes to nail appointments, but even with an appointment, I was there for nearly two hours (1hr 50 minutes to be specific) for a basic pedicure. Several people came and went during the time I was there. I placed my chosen nail color on the arm of the chair and the owner, I believe, demanded I move it into the cup holder because "they get dropped and broken." Fair enough, but she said this FOUR times (I immediately moved it after she mentioned it the first time) and was very intense. The technician who started did some of the basic scrubbing, trimming and massaging. Someone (the intense lady of the previous paragraph) interrupted her to tell her she was doing the massaging wrong (she was doing a lovely job) and painfully shoved her nails into my foot. The original technician stepped aside (it seems she is still training perhaps?) and I waited for about twenty minutes for someone else who *STARTED A LARGE PART OF THE PEDICURE OVER!*. Back into the water, more scrubbing. My sister (we had the same appointment time) was done with her pedicure by this time and waited about forty five minutes (!) for me to be done with this endless pedicure. Multiple people asked both of us for payment a couple different times after we had paid and it just had a very chaotic vibe. The icing was there was this gross spider web or something in my cup holder. Yikes. The entire experience was uncomfortable, unpleasant, confusing and stressful. Stopped by last minute around 2:30 pm today and got a dip mani and gel pedi. Lena was my tech and I'm pretty sure she's the owner as well. She was really fun, and clearly running a solid business because within five minutes of me coming in they were starting to stack up with walk in appointments. I mentioned I had about an hour before I had to get back to work and Lena was so considerate about making sure to not go over, so I'd not miss work at all. She checked in with customers who were waiting for treatments and continuously answered calls as she worked. This woman does like five jobs at once. For people who aren't fans of the vibe: this is an independent AAPI owned business. Maybe we can be cool with not every store culture and owner fitting our cookie cutter view of Minnesota. Personally I love that Lena runs this spot her own way with her own attitude in the middle of a pretty white neighborhood, and she's killing it! Oh and duh: my nails are hot. read more

They already look grown out, they're uneven, and I asked for a very simple design and received flowers that do not look anything like the original nails I had asked for and are all uneven and misshapen. read more

There was a Latino family having a pedicure - a young couple and their older parents and it was their parents' first time! This is the 2nd time I've came here and both times it was apparent they were unaware of my appointment. Today I've been waiting 30 minutes and there seems to be no clear time on when they will begin my appointment. Secondly, when I started to explain what I was calling for, the employee became extremely difficult as to why I was contacting this salon instead of my usual salon even agreed I explained why and she said verbatim "ummm idk since you didn't get them done here". I live in the neighborhood, and thought I'd check this place out. I stopped by on a Thursday night for a powder dip manicure, without an appointment. First off, none of the traditional manicure processes were offered - no soak, nail shaping, cuticle trimming, or hand massage. I had my nails filed roughly for about 30 seconds before she dove in with the first coat of polish. She didn't even let me wash my hands to wash off the nail dust from filing! From there, it got worse. She was extremely fast and sloppy with the work, as you can see from the photos. I still have polish on my fingers and cuticles. I was also asked to change chairs 3 times during the manicure, and was then scolded when one of my nails got smudged. Each station was equally dirty, with a thick coating of different powders spilled from different manicures that day. As I was leaving, she told me that my nails would probably chip and lift because of the color I picked (???). For $50, I've had much, much better service elsewhere. The place was full of regular customers who seemed pretty happy, so clearly some people love this place. Based on my experience, though, I won't be back. read more

Eh, OK. Kevin is a good nail tech for sure, I'd give him 5 stars..... I just wish he made his own appointments. My appointments here have not been honored and waiting is apparently the norm. If I make an appointment for 12, I don't want to be argued with that it was for 12:30 and then still have to wait until 1:00. The place is dead quiet, no music or TV, just the owner talking a LOT telling everyone how much they love her and on speaker phone taking "appointments". This is the second time I've been there. The nail technicians are very nice and my mani pedi was spot on. Unfortunately the shop is not well kept. The chairs are old. There are unused nail seats lined up across the back wall. The owner was hammering like crazy to build some sort of shelf in the back room. Hardly relaxing! Plus at the end of my mani I was told I they don't buff nails. I'd said at least four times I didn't want color on my hands. Only buff. It was only after they took my $ I was told it wasn't possible. Horrible service and racist staff. When I got there I go helped right away and the woman who seemed to be the owner suggested I try the $40 special on powder dip nails and I was intrigued. While the owner was doing my nails, a black woman came in with a child and asked if she could get a manicure. The owner was very short with her, explaining she didn't have time because she had an appointment and she closes at 5? (Their website says 6.) Not even 5 minutes later, a woman called to request a pedicure and the owner told her to come right away and she could be helped. As I was leaving, another young black woman came into the shop and started looking at nail polish. The owner told her there wasn't time and the woman explained that she called ahead. They went back and forth before the owner realized this was her next appointment. Altogether, weird vibes about who she wanted to help out. In addition to the selective customer service, she also messed up my nails. I picked out a color that was labeled 3c or something along those lines. Instead she grabbed 3s. I was unsure about the color but wasn't familiar with the process and thought it might look different in the end. Instead I ended up with sparkly pink Barbie color. On top of that, she barely filed my nails, leaving them misshapen, lumpy and warped. When I pointed out the mistake she argued with me, saying I was making it up and I was the one switching the colors. Even if the color had been correct and the gel had been filed correctly, there was nothing but polish included for the $40 fee. I was told to wash my own hands beforehand. There was no soak, no shaping and no cuticle cutting. I expected much more for the price. Overall, horrible experience. 0/10 would not recommend. read more
