I mean, who doesn't like sipping a PBR (or La Croix if that's your jam) and listening to rock music while gettin your hair did? I've been coming to Hair-O-Smith regularly since April 2018, when I decided to do my side shave and having already had my first positive experience the previous July when I did a simple trim and dye to hide those pesky grays for a wedding I was in. Alison has been my gal and she's awesome. We usually just do a monthly touch up on my side shave (husband does one in between cause my hair grows so fast and I can't afford going there THAT many times lol), but I've been branching out more recently and we've started to do little designs in the shave and I recently added some red to the front for funsies. I just shoot her a text a few days before I'm ready to come in and she has no trouble fitting me in. The NE location is convenient as well because I can just pop over real easily during lunch or after work. I never thought I'd be the girl who went to the salon, but for this one at least I'm glad to have found a chill and laid back place! PS - there is a (clearly marked) parking lot attached so that you don't have to park in the street, although there is plenty of street parking all the times I've gone as well.

I decided to color my very light gray hair with streaks of purple and blue. Steve was careful to use pastels and foil them into my hair and the result is just perfect! Subtle and gorgeous. The color he used is more of a stain then a dye, so there was no processing, no bleach. Healthy hair with great color. Steve told me to wash in cool water with gentle shampoo. I'm still very Impressed and love my hair cut and the whole experience! Scott worked with me to get it the right length, etc. totally stress free.... so glad I found him. Let's start with that I loath going to spas and beauticians. There are often terrible smells of carcinogenic chemicals (ammonia, acetone, etc). Add to that they are noisy and crowded. Scott Millers Studio is the opposite of most places. No bad smells, one chair and personal attention. Add to that hair artistry. I came in with long straggly hair.... ithad been 2-3 years since my last hair cut. My hair really needed to be styled and yet it needed to be something I could duplicate, and I needed a new look (no more earth mother braid). Scott got it right away, worked with me and gave me a cut I could manage and that was becoming. No more braid . I am grateful for his patience and artistry. Highly recommended.

I was just here, hated every second of it. I had gotten a perm over the summer somewhere else and…read morewas wearing it long but wanted a cut to give some structure and movement, but still be able to play with the texture of the perm because I like it. I scheduled with Hasaan. Showed him two videos and a photo, he only asked me "you want to keep it full in the back?" I said yes, because it's like that in the photos. I felt like he barely looked but I didn't question because sometimes people are just that good, they already know what's up by a glance. He asked me if I liked the perm, I talk about how I grew my hair out for a year and how I didn't want to keep getting fades because it was too much maintenance to go every 1-2 weeks. Other than that he doesn't talk to me which is fine because I only really want to be communicated with about my hair and haircut. Basically no consultation about my hair and goals, especially as a new client. He busted out the clippers and before I could protest all my hair is gone. He asks if the length is good afterwards, all I can say is yes? What am I supposed to say, hey can you glue my hair back on my head? I obviously didn't want it any shorter. Look, I don't tell people what to do in their own profession as I am not a hairstylist but it really should've just been some scissor work. Even with the longest guard it would've still been shorter than what I had asked for. I was just asking for layers and a trim - if that was not communicated through the photo and videos I shared then why wasn't I asked. The back isn't even "full" like he confirmed with me, it seems like he just wanted me in and out and gave me a generic short haircut I didn't ask for. It's uneven, I have long stray hairs. My hair is sticking out because he cut it short, which I didn't ask for, and when it's short it sticks out. I know my hair, that's why I didn't want it. Paid $45 for the haircut (plus tip because I'm not a jerk and I know people need to live). Could've gotten this haircut somewhere else for less. I was and still am irritated as hell because I just don't understand how it went from what I wanted to what I got. He didn't even try. And I effectively lost time spent growing my hair out and money I spent on the perm that he just cut off. This was by hair the most messed up haircut.

I am sad to write this review but figured it's good information to share with others…read more I read a lot of reviews and I made an appointment with "stylist A", about a month in advance. The day of the appointment I got a call from someone else (stylist B) saying that she was running 20 min behind and asked if I could come 20 min later than scheduled, I said sure and that's what I did. I get there and stylist B greets me, this is when I realized she isn't the person I booked with, based on the picture. She said "your haircut is now with Stylist C and pointed to another woman standing by the desk. I had no choice in the matter and was already very annoyed but the switch ups but didn't feel like I could say no, plus I needed a haircut. Let's just say I was less than thrilled with stylist C and the haircut I ended up with. Also very unhappy with how unprofessional stylist B was, she never mentioned she is taking over my appointment, and she called to change the appointment time and was still unavailable. I also want to mention that I emailed the salon sharing my disappointment and have not heard back at all.. no apology, explanation or anything. So if you have a preference for a stylist make sure they don't change things up on you! Very disappointing customer service.

0/0***Edited Response to Unprofessional Owner:*** I am devastated by how badly my hair has been…read morebutchered, and the owner's shocking response only adds to my frustration. Such an unprofessional, non-factual, and condescending reply reinforces my decision not to return and should serve as a major red flag for anyone considering this establishment. It's particularly troubling that neither the owner nor anyone in authority has had the decency to address my negative experience directly. The baseless attacks on my character are unacceptable, and it's disheartening to see lies and opinions spread publicly without any attempt to understand my side of the story. I want to share my incredibly distressing experience at Lua Nova Salon. I walked in excited for a new hairstyle, having shown the stylist a picture of what I wanted--a long bob (LOB) with layers. However, from the very first cut, I sensed something was off. The stylist next to mine reacted with wide eyes, looking back and forth between my hair and the floor, which immediately raised my concerns. Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed as the stylist butchered my hair. Instead of the layers I requested, I left with a blunt cut short bob that was nothing like what I had envisioned. To make matters worse, I was asked to leave while still in shock and tears. My distress made the stylist uncomfortable--yes, MY tears over my butchered hair were making HER uncomfortable. I was asked to leave looking like this, which made the situation all the more horrifying. I can't believe I walked into a place where, within 15 minutes, all my hair was chopped off, and I was treated as if I were the issue. I felt dismissed and invalidated during a moment that was deeply personal to me. I cannot express how heartbroken I am over this experience. If I could give negative stars, I absolutely would. I strongly advise against sitting in Emma Carlson's chair, as my experience with her was nothing short of horrendous. Please be cautious if you decide to visit this salon. What was meant to be a fresh cut to help me take a step forward in overcoming my deep depression has only made things 20 times worse. I hope others have a better experience, but I certainly will not be returning. I will be surprised and blessed if I make it out of this one. This has truly been an absolute nightmare and one of the worst days of my life. The first picture is my hair before I walked in; the second is the picture I showed the stylist for reference. This is what I was kicked out looking like. I'm still crying over this at 9 PM and can't believe this happened. I balled up what hair is left and put it underneath a barbell cap, topped with a hooded sweatshirt. I can't even look in the mirror. My head is throbbing from how much crying I've done.
