First off, let me say that Mark is amazing. He goes the extra mile, is efficient and doesn't mind if you relax in silence (always a bonus depending on the day!) I get an awesome blow out - even with how extra thick and long my hair is (I tend to resemble Cousin It most days.) He is more than accommodating, even when he doesn't have to be and is industry recognized for being one of the best! The space is cool, industrial and everyone seems fairly independent. I was there for EIGHT hours with a friend, we both were getting the same thing done. a bleach and dye, the only difference was that I was getting a hair cut as well. I started before her and yet I was there for eight hours while she had finished three hours before, and my friend had more hair being done than I did. They got my hair cut completely wrong and had asked to see the inspo pictures multiple times yet still didn't get it right and although I was there for so long I ended up leaving with dye in my hair to wash out because it was so late, I got there at 12 just to leave at 8:30. It was a ridiculous service and with all that I had to pay $600 for all that without me even getting what I asked for. it was ridiculous and I will not be returning there ever again. I wish I could get a slight refund or something cause it was completely ridiculous. read more

I will miss this salon as I went here from 2014-2017 before I moved to Chicago in September 2017 I remember wanting to find a new stylist after college and a friend pointed me to Evolution! The stylists at the salon are pure talent and were made to do hair. The atmosphere and energy in the space is super fun, I never wanted to leave. The stylists are friendly and you can tell they love their job. They use Lanza products here, which is the best!! I would definitely recommend coming here, especially if you are wanting to try something new!! Catlin was my girl and I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to be treated like a queen. Having said all of this.... a couple friends and I are considering a salon switch. Here's why: The last three times I've/they've come in for a cut and color with Mike the price has climbed significantly each time (with no warning!!). Don't get me wrong - I'm willing to pay for quality, but this is getting a little out of hand. In the last year the price I pay for the same service has more than doubled. I am very happy that the salon is doing well and that they are busy, but I knew when I found myself delaying getting my hair done because I'm afraid this time around I'll have to drop a mortgage payment there that I should maybe make a change - for my roots and my wallet. As soon as I realized I was going to be in town, my first call was to Evolution to see if by any chance I could bribe Matt to take me last minute, but he's in Chicago doing awesome things to other people's hair. Even though I had never seen Heidi, she was nice enough to squeeze me in, and she did a great job. I just love this salon. Never a bad haircut, never anything less than awesome customer service. They're busy, but they manage their time better than any salon I've ever been to. They don't keep you waiting long. And all the stylists seem to have the ability to talk and cut at the same time to get you out of there in under a half hour. I love quickies. My poor hair is suffering the woes of living in Portland and not returning to Minneapolis on a regular basis anymore. Will someone sponsor my flight back so that I can have wonderfully hot hair again? I have been seeing Mike at his previous salon and now at Evolution for over 6 years. He is part-owner, master stylist, a coloring god, and a perfectionist. If he is even slightly unsatisfied with the work (even if I was okay with it) he will make you come back in so he can fix the problem and give you samples as atonement for your troubles. I trust him so much, I don't even give many guidelines for what kind of cut I want - just let him work his magic! The salon is minimalist in decorations and has a calming but hip color scheme. They offer wine and cocktails while you wait. One of my girlfriend's had her hair and all of the bridesmaid's hair done for the day of her wedding and we had so much fun. At the time of the wedding I had ridiculously short hair, and Matt somehow managed to wrangle my waify blonde wisps into an elegant arrangement that made me feel like a goddess and stayed in place through ceremony, drinking and dancing. I cannot rave enough about this place. The prices have slowly increased over the past few years ($65 for a standard cut) but I would pay more for this kind of perfection and salon experience. I loved loved loved this place! I've been trying to find a new place to get my hair done for awhile now and I have high hopes for this one. I've work in a few salons so I like to think I know what to look for. I went and saw Sarah for a cut and she did a wonderful job. She listened and knew exactly what I was going for. I didn't do anything too drastic but by the way she understood me I bet she would have cut my hair great no matter what style I was going for. I also really appreciate when stylists don't out of their way to make pushy convo or try to pitch product. I know that part of their job but I like to build a relationship with my stylist before I start to spill my heart and soul. Can't say anything about the color jobs yet. Still sticking to my box color for now (don't judge me). Decently priced, great vibe. The one thing I forgot to ask about was the wine and no one offered me any! Minneapolis has become my second home and I have been looking for a colorist that really knew how to lift my dark hair to the proper golden tones. The last colorist I saw in Minnesota was not able to achieve the look I wanted and so it was a lot of work for Michael Dhal. Michael took on the challenge and exceeded my expectations. He really took the time to educate me about my hair which I really appreciated. He is an educator for the Lanza product line and it really shows. He is extremely proffesional and passionate about his business. He explained the steps he would need to take to achieve the look I wanted. The end result was fabulous! I have had my hair colored by some of the best and this has to be my favorite. I also love how he styled my hair. My hair doesn't feel like I have a ton of product in it which I really appreciate. It looks really beautiful and natural. I feel truly blessed to have Michael Dhal as my new stylist and look forward to my next appointment with him. I highly suggest booking your appointments a couple weeks in advance since he is a very busy stylist and booking a color consultation prior to your actual appointment so Michael can orchestrate the proper game plan for your hair. I get my hair cut by Mark Dolan who really knows what he is doing! I walk out every time feeling like a rock star. I have curly hair, and Mark takes the time to first cut it when it's wet, then blow dry, straighten, and then recut to make sure everything is perfect. He does it in less than an hour, and always welcomes me back in just for a quick style before events. Great service (wine while you wait!), friendly staff, beautiful salon. This was my first time here after reading rave reviews on Yelp, but unfortunately came away disappointed. I had Matt (who btw is super nice and cute) and asked him to freshen up 3 months of roots for my blond hair. I held up the tips of hair to show how blond I wanted it. He did his thing, and it looked okay in the mirrors as I walked out (doesn't it always????), but I got home and realized my hair color was no different than when I went in. My sandy-blond roots were still there and it was pretty obvious. There was a weak streak or two of blond, but nothing close to what I asked for. I tipped him and the person who washed/styled my hair well, and the total came out to over a hundred dollars. If they had provided me with what I wanted, I would say it was a good price, but that wasn't the case. Will probably have to find someone and pay (again) to do my hair, arg! read more

This salon is amazing. Anyone here will do an amazing job with your hair. The atmosphere is so fun, decorated in a hip but not overly pretentious manner. You get a beverage while you wait which is always a plus. Mike regularly does my hair and I have never been disappointed, even when I leave any decisions to him and simply say 'do what you want'. I have curly hair, which can be tricky for stylists. I have had a lot of bad haircuts in my life and I am never afraid of having another now that I go to Evolution! Had a Brazilian Blowout by Mel and was completely blown away (pun intended). She answered every question I had about the (very easy) process and addressed my concerns with the bad media surrounding the product. I wish it wasn't so expensive so I could do it regularly! Parking can be a bit challenging at times, but what do you expect for an Uptown location? Plan ahead like you would with any other place and you will be fine. I was also part of a bridal party that recently booked the salon for hair-dos. They let us take over the place and have our outside make-up gal come in to beautify the ladies after their hair was done by Evolution staff. I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

I've had a great experience here. I see Mike, co-owner, and I've never had a better hair cut in my life. The man clearly knows what he's doing. Somehow, my hair feels and looks longer after each cut than in did before the cut. How that is possible, I have no idea. Not only does he do an amazing job on the cut and color, he's taught me how to style it (I've kind of just been a ponytail or quick blow dry kind of girl). I can now wear it curly, wavy or straight without spending hours of my time on my hair. I've also been turned on to their product line, L'ANZA. Love it. Smells delicious and goes a long way! His cut is always perfect for my awkward wavy texture and grows out seamlessly. The color last for 6 month and never ruins my hair. Today was my first and Last time as a client. I have Never had such a unprofessional experience at a hair salon. I have been a customer at the Nikki Clark hair salon in London on Oxford street who has pictures on the wall of the many famous that have passed through their doors Princess Diana, Etc... and they are not as pretentious , or Rude as the receptionist Leann was to me today. And as a American in a very upscale hair salon in Europe this is saying a lot! I requested a short hair cut from Mark and even showed him the length that I wanted my hair cut. I left the hair salon not having received the short hair cut. I went to another salon who had a opening and Paid Again, for my hair to be cut this time leaving having received what I asked for. This is the First time in my life that I have been so unhappy with a hair cut that I have Paid Two times in a day for a hair cut! I have read in The New York Times that some reviewers on Yelp are paid to review a business, this and the friends of the stylist are the Only explanation that I can think of as to why a positive review is on Yelp. read more

The studio is great, with a cool atmosphere and nice munchies and drinks. Unfortunately you are not here to lounge but to get your hair done! I was pretty ok with the service and the haircut, but not convinced. A week later when my hair color ran off and my roots showed I was not happy. I was traveling for 2 weeks in important meetings, so I had to ran to Target to get home hair color. By the time I was back in Minneapolis I did not bother going back to complain because I thought they would give me all these lame excuses that probably my hair grew to fast or I did not take good care of my hair color. I did not have want the aggravation of being doubted and treated like a whiner, specially after my home hair color did a good job at hiding my roots and not running off! In addition, this place is more expensive that my haircut place in Los Gatos, CA, which is one of the 7th most expensive zip codes in the country! Will never go back! I was seeing someone else for awhile before Michael but didn't know how bad my haircut actually was until I switched to having Michael as my stylist. I have just recently visited Evolution for the first time as my stylist Catlin moved to this location in mid-November. First, Catlin is AWESOME!! She is incredibly consultative, personable, and TALENTED! I have NEVER left her chair without a smile on my face. She does fantastic cuts and color! She also did all the up dos for my best friend's wedding this past summer, and everyone's hair was chic, stylish and matched their personality! Catlin is certainly an asset to Evolution! Second, Evolution is very impressive!! The moment you walk in, you are drawn into the architecture, the high ceilings, the brightness, the art, and just the overall surroundings. I would highly recommend Sarah's services! I initially met her when she was one of the stylists servicing a wedding party I was a part of. She did an excellent job with my up-do and was great at listening to what I wanted and developing the style that was right for my hair type. After such a positive experience, I decided to schedule a much-needed haircut with her. I feel like a different person! Catlin...you rocked my curly locks! I was tired of the same curly haircut...I wanted a sassier cut and still rock my curls - I don't fight my curls. I had a picture of a haircut I adored, but feared a hair stylist wouldn't do it or nail it, because the cut featured bangs...yes, curly hair bangs that look hot!! and in the pass I would ask for cool curly cuts that have bangs and would never get them from a stylist. Well, Catlin didn't bat an eye. She said, "O.k." and nodded her head in agreement and got to work. I even had my 4- year-old daughter with me, because my sitter got sick and I didn't want to cancel or change my appointment. Fortunately, they were playing the animated film, Meatballs from the sky or something, but I think even if that movie wasn't playing I still would have not received one dirty look for having my child with me. My points are that my hair looks great - Catlin nailed the cut exactly - and I've gotten tons of compliments on my new do and they were all...especially Catlin, so accommodating and fun. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT WHO YOU GET BANGS THROUGH! I feel bad for posting this because my stylist was so nice but I honestly received one of the worst cuts of my life, it literally looks like something a 5-year-old would do. My bangs are severely chopped (unevenly) all the way to my ears, I look like simple jack from the movie tropic thunder mixed with a monk. I literally have a bowl cut in the front.... I thought I was overreacting until my coworkers and friends commented on "what happened to your hair, did you do that yourself?!" I've never cried about a hair do until now. (Which I feel ridiculous about but its seriously that bad) I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home plus my bangs are so chopped that theres no way to fix it. I have been going to this salon ever since they opened. I have had Matt, Mike and Heidi all cut and color my hair. Most recently I have been going to Mike and I have to say I love my hair. I am in my late 50's and Mike has guided me through the last 15 years of giving me great cuts and colors that have evolved with my age and lifestyle. Currently I have a super short platinum style that rocks. It's super easy to style and always looks fabulous. Love the atmosphere, too.
